THE EASIEST GUIDE TO changing your last name

AFTER THE WEDDING

our newlywed bliss can quickly come to an end when it comes time to endure the dreaded task of changing your last name. The legal process can often take the romance out of taking your significant other’s last name. If you get yourself organized with the proper documents, the process can be less strenuous, allowing you to continue to revel in your newlywed happiness.

Getting a new license from the local Bureau of Motor Vehicles office requires a few documents, namely your old license, the original marriage license and your new Social Security card. Remember to change your address if you have moved after the wedding.

The easiest way to do this is to visit your local branch in person. Take your new license, your marriage license and your new Social Security card, and ask for your name to be changed on your account. Request new checks, debit cards and credit cards with your new name.

If you visit the Social Security Administration’s website, you can find an application for a change of name here. This is a free service. Print the application, fill it out, and include any required documents. You can either take your application to a nearby Social Security office or mail it in. You should receive your new card with your new last name in approximately 10 days.

When your new Social Security card comes in the mail, meet with your HR manager at work to switch your name over. This includes payroll, 401k, your insurance benefits, stocks etc.

MARRIAGE LICENSE FROM THE CLERK’S OFFICE The original license should come from the clerk’s office where your license was filed. One should automatically be sent to you a couple weeks after the wedding. The original document should have a raised seal and your new last name. Also, it’s a good idea to request copies.

THE VISION Join us in the garden for our Central Indiana digital cover shoot! Felicia Dale, owner of Emerald Lotus Events, was inspired by the old-world elegance of Downton Abbey, but added a modern twist of farm-to-table style. “Each of these elements—organic, modern and turn-of-the-century elegance—are strong enough to stand on their own,” Felicia notes. “But I was in love with the grandeur and the formality of this aesthetic.” Beautifully captured by Jasmine Norris Photography, this turn-of-the-century inspired shoot will be your inspiration this season!

THE VENUE With indoor and two outdoor spaces to choose from, The Stables Event Center in Lafayette, Indiana, provided the ideal location for this shoot. This barn venue’s freshly finished feel fulfilled the concept of countryside elegance that Felicia was looking for. The natural acres and rolling hills surrounding The Stables creates the perfect illusion of rustic privacy for any couple looking to escape the city while still being centrally located.

THE CAKE Did someone say 'cake tower'? This fourtiered Little Miss Cupcakes confection is layered with delicious champagne, raspberry and chocolate flavors. Florals, sugared strawberries, blueberries and dried orange slices add adorable little details to make this dessert truly stunning!

THE FLORALS What’s a summer garden party without some gorgeous florals? 21 Petals Flower Farm grew and hand-picked these colorful flowers to touch on a wild and whimsical theme. Inspired by summer berries and fruit, these overflowing blooms and greenery bring a stunning fresh look to this shoot!

THE LOOK Simple elegance was the name of the game for this bride and groom. The Trudie’s Bridal and Formalwear gown was selected to match the organic feeling of the shoot. The gown’s bohemian lace touches on a modern style. This style is continued through the model’s hair and makeup design. Her chignon hair, designed by Girl on the Glow, was modernized with a few loose curls to frame the model’s face. Phoenix in Flight Beauty Services styled the model’s makeup to look finished and elegant while drawing on styles from the early 1900s. The groom’s tuxedo from Trudie’s Bridal and Formalwear kept his look classy and elegant!

Trudie's also offers alteration services for items purchased in and out of the shop!

Stephanie is a wife and a mom to two girls. Her goal in life is to show her girls that with hard work and determination, they can grow up to be what they want to be and do what they love to do. She says, "I love to bring my clients' cake dreams to reality, as it is a centerpiece for your wedding."

Since arriving stateside in 2012, she has created an opulent makeup and skincare experience for her hometown in Lafayette, Indiana—now, newly located in their beautiful downtown studio. Phoenix In Flight provides in-studio appointments for wedding trials, photo and event makeup, skincare and on-location wedding day services.
