C O N F O R T I P H O T O G R A P H Y / / Ab o u t t he P ho t o gra p her My name is Cassie Conforti and I am a wedding photographer based out of Indianapolis. I am a mama to an almost two-year-old little man and a newborn baby girl so I am no stranger to crazy and hectic. Shooting weddings is my absolute favorite thing in the world and I love being a part of such happy and beautiful days in people’s lives. It’s so fun to share those intimate moments with people week after week and get to capture it all for them through my lens. I am a lover of all things neutral, rustic and girly. Florals and rings are my favorite thing to shoot on wedding days (besides the bride and groom of course!) and I am also a big fan of coffee, probably since sleep is rare with two babies!

KELLY & ZAC BROUILLETTE
Kelly Miller and Zac Brouillette met while she was interviewing for an assistant softball coach position at Ohio University. He was a strength and conditioning coach. “The job was a done deal when I saw the hunky coach,” says Kelly. She played softball at Purdue University and was a standout midfielder. He attended Iowa State, where he played football and was on the track and field team.

The couple was getting ready to move to Florida where Zac had accepted a job and the two had to say goodbye to all their favorite Athens restaurants. They saw a coach friend who wanted to have a drink before they left Jackie O’s. Afterwards, she noticed Zac driving really fast to a local park and lake. He had set up a picnic table with a tablecloth, champagne and a box – hoping to propose at sunset. “He got down on one knee and his dog Bailey came running out of the woods,” says Kelly. The next thing she saw was a friend dressed in camo with a photographer, who was scrambling to get the perfect shots.

THE CEREMONY “I’ll never forget when our priest Father Bonke told Zac to speak up during the vows and he went from minimum volume to maximum “Coach Zac” volume, which made everyone laugh, including me!”
THE DRESS With a mom who is the oldest of 14 children, Kelly grew up in the 90s as a flower girl and junior bridesmaid and fell in love with satin gowns. She was fortunate enough to find a dress with a satin bodice and a soft tulle skirt, which fit her style perfectly.

WHAT WE
FLORAL AND DÉCOR Keeping with the patriotic theme, florists helped them decide on navy and white striped table linens and red, white and blue flower arrangements designed to look like fireworks.
THE CAKE A red, white and blue confetti cake charmed and surprised those attending the celebration. Kelly admits she is competitive and she and Zac had a lot of fun with the whole “cake smashed in the face” thing.
22
WEDDING DAY
love
In homage to the disposable cameras of the 90s, Zac and Kelly found American flag selfie sticks and put one on each table. Guests posted their candid photos on Facebook and Instagram.
SAVED BY THE WEDDING BELL Kelly’s sister’s speech was in song, to the theme of “Saved by the Bell” (after all, they are named Kelly and Zac!) She also was able to wear her mom’s wedding shoes, which had a low heel and suited this athletic bride almost as much as running shoes.
RED, WHITE AND BLUE FOREVER When you get married on the Fourth of July, it’s only natural to have an all-out patriotic theme. The bridesmaids’ dresses were red, the groomsmen wore blue suits and the flower girl and bride wore white. Guests also participated in the theme and Kelly’s grandma even wore a sequined top and hat. Flags were waved when the couple left the church; the bride and bridesmaids put on American flag Keds™, and the groomsmen sported patriotic socks and red-striped bow ties.

ADVICE FROM THE bride
THE RECEPTION VENUE
“Have an optimistic approach to the day. Some of the funniest moments and greatest memories came from mistakes or surprises.” A surprise concert in downtown Indy right outside of the church made her laugh as she watched the guests react. “We obviously had one ‘rocking’ wedding.”
A very large family meant the couple needed a venue that would accommodate everyone. Kelly and Zac were infatuated with Indy’s Scottish Rite Cathedral with its history, architecture, woodwork and details. As an added bonus, the facility blocked off the front stairs so that wedding guests could watch the free fireworks downtown.

KAITLYN & TANNER SMALE
While German may not be the language of love, it was high school German class that brought Kaitlyn Robison and Tanner Smale together. She was a sophomore and he was a senior. A friend who was in theater introduced the two of them. Kaitlyn sat behind him in class, but didn’t think he started noticing her until she came back from winter break with a tan.

an artistic couple
shares the limelight A DIY WEDDING AT LAKESIDE OCCASIONS
Tanner, who works at Premier Arts, the resident theater company of the Lerner Theater in Elkhart, had been performing in the musical “South Pacific” when right after the curtain call, the music changed abruptly and the One Direction song “Kiss You” started playing. Everyone in the cast began dancing and passing hearts down the line. The hearts read “Will You Marry Me?” Tanner jumped over the line of dancers at the same time a confetti cannon went off. When the song ended, he got down on one knee and proposed in front of more than a thousand people.

THE CEREMONY The gazebo on Emma Lake was supposed to be the site of the ceremony, but Mother Nature had a different idea. The decision to move the ceremony inside the barn and have everyone seated at tables had to be made when the rain did not let up. And it was only natural for Tanner to be saying his vows center stage rather than outside. “It ended up being beautiful with all the lights and everyone could hear our vows and the rest of the ceremony, says Kaitlyn, determined to enjoy whatever happened that day. While most couples opt for ceremonial customs like lighting a unity candle or pouring unity sand into a jar, Kaitlyn and Tanner established their own tradition. They created a unity canvas where each of them poured paint until it blended together. The decorative metaphor was a symbol of not only their union, but it also symbolized the wedding itself that was a result of their joint, artistic efforts. 32
WEDDING DAY
THE DRESS Like most brides, Kaitlyn admits the dress she ended up with was not the one she imagined. She knew she wanted a strapless gown with a sweetheart neckline, but fell in love with the bows and crystal buttons on the back of a satin dress. “The sales ladies at Ashley Rene’s saw that I was drawn to detail and sparkle, so they suggested removing a floral/beaded applique from a belt and dressing up the front a bit,” she says.

THE DÉCOR
34
When a graphic designer embarks on her journey to plan her dream wedding, one can expect that the artistic creativity will be evident throughout the entire affair. Such was the case with Kaitlyn’s wedding. Except in her case, the expectations to impress guests were even higher—Kaitlyn is a graphic designer for a wedding publication. Her career is to take the delicate details of each wedding and tie them together in one, pretty package paying special attention to the details that others typically overlook.
was interspersed through many of the D.I.Y. elements of the special occasion including the invites and programs (designed by Kaitlyn, obviously) and the cornhole boards and ring bearer’s box.
They say it’s a beautiful thing when a career and a passion come together and the evidence is all in the details of Kaitlyn and Tanner’s wedding. As a designer, Kaitlyn took the opportunity to create their own logo, thus, “branding” their wedding. The logo
The wedding colors were gray and yellow, with yellow being only a minor hue in the décor (the bride loves the color combo but isn’t a fan of yellow by itself). The tall centerpieces made by a family friend highlighted whites and ivories and the sequined table runners were gray.
WEDDING DAY
Not to be outdone, Tanner also rose to the occasion with his creative side and took D.I.Y. to a whole new level. He built and painted the guest book board as well as the large sign on the road, pointing guests in the direction of the ceremony.
WHAT WE
love
The vintage-style pocket watches that Tanner and his groomsmen wore and the classy and dignified cornhole games made by Kaitlyn. Cornhole never looked this good!
THE VENUE Kaitlyn and Tanner decided to get married at Lakeside Occasions in Topeka, Indiana – a restored 1887 Guernsey dairy barn, complete with a loft, a stage, a chandelier and lots of strung lights adding to the ambiance. “We wanted to do a barn wedding without doing the typical casual mason jar thing that is popular among barn weddings,” says Kaitlyn. “We were shooting for more of the ‘rustic elegance’ feel.”
SPECIAL MOMENTS Kaitlyn and Tanner are so grateful for the friends and family who showed up at 7 a.m. that Saturday to help them set up in the pouring rain. The bride also was touched by one of her maids of honor who gave her the sweetest card with a drawing tucked in that Kaitlyn had given her in seventh grade. “She always knew she would give it back to me on my wedding day.”
WEDDING DAY
35
THE FLORAL Ranunculus, lilies, chrysanthemums and garden roses in yellow and white comprised the bouquets.
ADVICE FROM THE bride
“Don’t sweat the small stuff. The weather might be rainy, your dressing room could flood and the beautiful outdoor ceremony you’ve planned every detail of may have to be moved inside. But none of that is important. All the matters in the end and all that you will remember is that you’re married to your best friend.”
THE CAKE The bride opted for an all-white cake with various textures on each layer. Yellow-dyed paper flowers added a pop of color. The cake table was covered with the same sequined fabric from the table runners, adding a touch of glamour to the historic barn.

LINDSAY & EDDY LUX
Lindsay Grace and Eddy Lux met while volunteering at a young professionals event at City Market in Indianapolis. They had a moment right out of a Hollywood romance as they kept sneaking glances and smiles. They met for a drink at the end of the evening, exchanged numbers and had a date the next weekend.

THE PROPOSAL The proposal took place in the pouring rain under the same tree at the Indiana State Fairgrounds where Lindsay and Eddy had their first date. “I stepped in a huge puddle getting out of the truck as he convinced me to take a selfie under the tree,” Lindsay says. “Of course, I didn’t care about the rain after he got on one knee and I said yes.”

THE DRESS Lindsay did not have one of those TV moments where she just knew a particular dress was “the one.” Although her preconceived notion was lace with beading, she ended up with all tulle. It wasn’t until her wedding day that she felt certain she had made the right choice.

At the reception, the bride’s sisters read a poem they wrote about Lindsay and Eddy first meeting, dating and getting engaged, adding a sweet and unexpected touch to the toasts.
SPECIAL MOMENTS Both of the bride’s parents attended Louisiana State University and the bride’s father’s college band (the Bill Grace Band) played at the wedding. Both toasts mentioned Lindsay’s 14-yearold cat “Buddy” who seems to be everyone’s favorite cat.

THE CEREMONY Fulfilling a dream of getting married in the Artsgarden (listed as one of the top 22 “Coolest Places to get Married in America” by BuzzFeed.com) with the City of Indianapolis as the backdrop, Lindsay opted for lots of lanterns and pillar candles to warm up the space. The couple had a mix of traditional vows and ring exchanges with a more modern reading, and the groom’s close friend officiated. Tall white trees were suspended with dangling crystals and orchid heads, adding drama and glamour.
THE RECEPTION With most of Lindsay’s family living in the South, the elegant Conrad Indianapolis provided a convenient location for family members who had never experienced winter conditions before. MOLLY CONNOR PHOTOGRAPHY
THE FLORALS The bride’s bouquet was brimming with hydrangea, lisianathus, mini calla lilies and white Phalaenopsis orchids. The bridesmaids carried a similar style bouquet with pale blue and blush accents with delphiniums and tea roses. Stems were tied with a black satin ribbon.

THE RECEPTION DÉCOR Whites, ivories, metallic colors and soft pastel tones made up the color palette for the reception. More tall trees and lanterns completed the winter wonderland feel.
ADVICE FROM THE bride “If you aren’t getting married in a church setting, I would highly recommend asking a friend to marry you. It makes it much more personal not only for the two of you, but for the guests as well.” She also recommends tackling the thank you notes right away and completing about ten per night.

STYLE SHOOT
love in spades A KATE SPADE-INSPIRED URBAN ALLEY STYLE SHOOT
BY MOLLY CONNOR 56
WEDDING DAY
THE VISION It all started with an image we saw of a dinner party in an alley...and the vision was born. It was a dream come true to put together this Kate Spade-inspired spring, urban alley-styled shoot. Every detail, from the sassy signage to the gold snail accents, were perfectly in sync to showcase our vision—even in the typical Indiana spring rain shower. The unique backdrop allowed us to play with the elements to create a unique AND FUN look.
MOLLY CONNOR PHOTOGRAPHY
THE PAPER The stunning paperie from Whim & Proper Design Studio showcased large, painted flowers and thin, bold stripes, all accented with painted textures and a gorgeous hand-scripted calligraphy.

THE DRESSES Our bride was stunning in her Jenny Yoo Hathaway gown and Debra Moreland accessories from M.H. Pomander’s, paired with a tuxedo from the groom’s own closet. The couple transitioned beautifully into our after-party look, featuring a Joanna August Holly dress from Bella Bridesmaids in kelly green.
THE GLAM The timeless and chic hair and makeup looks from JW Salon (hair) and Beauty by Crystal (makeup) were the perfect touch to our overall look. The glittered wrapping paper, blackand-white-striped dance floor and unique confetti bar completed the rainy day shoot that was flawless in every way.
58

THE FLORALS & TABLE DÉCOR Sweet Pea Floral Design dreamed up the loveliest centerpieces, which were made up of fuchsia and tangerine roses, lisianthus, Sweet William, and hypericum berry. The tablescape was accented with champagne mercury julep cups filled to the top with gorgeous viburnum. The confetti bar for the after-party set was the perfect juxtaposition against the simplicity of the alley setting.

THE VISION Whimsical. Devastatingly lovely. Captivating. There are no shortage of words to describe this inspiration shoot designed and delivered by wedding planner and designer Sarah Keeker of Plum & Poppy and photographer Cassie Conforti of Conforti Photography. With luscious greenery, flower crowns and a pony named Merryleggs, this enchanting style shoot looks like it was fabricated straight out of a C.S. Lewis novel. “We wanted to create something that truly showed all of our favorite things: lush greenery dripping from every surface, tons of candles and timeless elegance in a neutral pallet, said Sarah. Originally, Sarah and Cassie conceptualized a wintry snowglobe-like photo shoot, but Mother Nature had different plans as the snow melted unexpectedly. But, just as the unexpected happens on a wedding day, the show must go on!
WEDDING DAY
69
E T H E R E A L B A R N W E D D I N G // S t y l e S h o o t
THE VENUE Because of the unexpected lack of snow, the shoot utilized both the indoor and outdoor space of The Barn in Zionsville. Sarah’s family actually owns The Barn in Zionsville which made the already-perfect venue all the more wonderful. Formerly a family horse barn, The Barn has been reconstructed into an enchanting wedding site, made complete with hanging chandeliers, overhead stringed lights, chiffon drapes and whiskey barrels. Wooden fences line the property outside and contain acres of pasture land and horses. Oh, and did we mention that those wooden fences surround an adorable little pony named Merryleggs? Merryleggs has been with Sarah’s family for, well, forever. Really, the Barn in Zionsville is pretty much Narnia.
THE DÉCOR As Sarah shared her vision with each vendor, Violet Vintage, a décor rental business out of Indianapolis rose to the occasion with finesse. Violet Vintage is in the business of finding diamonds in the rough and portraying them as the treasure that they are. They lent several rustic pieces for the shoot including the settee, the doors, the farm table, candle sticks and vendor cart. Their dynamic expertise allowed each piece to be used interchangeably from scene to scene while adding the much-needed detail that the neutral-toned background required. 70
WEDDING DAY
STATIONERY
THE FLORAL
The invitations were a collaboration between Ten: Thirteen Design and Jupiter and Juno Letterpress Wedding Invitations. After Sarah consulted with Jupiter and Juno and explained her vision, they turned to Ten: Thirteen Design for the creative and then printed the designs from their print shop in Indianapolis. Ten:Thirteen and Jupiter & June often collaborate so it’s not surprise that the invitations were flawless.
Given that the style shoot took place in the midst of winter, incorporating appropriate and in-season floral can be quite the challenge. Accent Floral Design of Carmel paired the neutral-based tones with ranunculus, blue thistle, olive branch, white waxflower, seeded eucalyptus, white roses, anemones, succulents, dusty miller, dinestra and white stock in all of the arrangements. Lush greenery added texture. The end result was a matching color scheme and an element of texture by relying on lush greenery for the floral concept.

STYLE SHOOT
THE DRESS Finding a winter-appropriate gown can be challenging. Sarah and Cassie sought out the expertise of Young, the owner of Marie Gabriel Couture bridal salon in Indianapolis. Her recommendation was to choose a long-sleeved, lace gown that would fit both the photo shoot concept and the model. A veil and floral head crown were added to offer additional elements of detail to the simple, but sophisticated gown. “We thought long-sleeved, lace was the best representation of timeless elegance. Women wore them 60 years ago and will be wearing them 60 years in the future, I hope! said Sarah.
72
WEDDING DAY
HAIR & MAKEUP Andi Martin of Something Blue Stylists was onsite throughout the photo shoot to create multiple looks for the bride. The model’s rich, dark brunette hair was curled in loosely spiraled ringlets and then topped with a floral crown and veil. Later, Andi pinned the model’s hair up loosely to the side of her face, allowing a few tendrils to escape. Exclusively using Arbonne Cosmetics, Andi relied on smoky eyes using a blend of Linen, Indigo and Blackout shades of Arbonne eyeshadow. The drama continued with glamorous lashes using Arbonne It’s a Long Story Mascara. The model’s lips were lined with Arbonne Pomegranate lip liner and then filled in with Arbonne Currant lipstick and sealed with Arbonne Hyacinth gloss.

BRIDESMAIDS’ DRESSES The ‘maids that accompanied the bride in this shoot added a visual element of interest with mismatched bridesmaid dresses. This was of course, done on purpose to showcase each bridesmaids’ individual personality and personal taste. Both of the dresses are chiffon and are from Bella Bridesmaids, a designer store in Indianapolis that carries a top selection of gowns specifically for bridesmaids. The sparkly adornments on each dress added brilliance and glamour against otherwise-muted tones.
