Knowing they wanted to have a large wedding, Jessica and Jordan’s main priority after they got engaged was to find a venue with plenty of space. With the help of Jordan’s family's business, Burns Special Events, the happy couple was able to find the perfect park venue to set up a large tent and celebrate the night away! Since fall is their favorite season and they were surrounded by nature, Jessica and Jordan envisioned a fall, boho celebration with the best décor and warm fall tones. “Burns Special Events really took our vision and took it to the next level,” Jessica raves. “From huge pampas grass chandeliers and a light tunnel to enter the wedding to personalized logos on the bars and personalized signage, it was all so beautiful!”

I get really hands-on with my photo timelines, and I work to create an entirely custom wedding timeline for couples, especially if they are not working with a planner or coordinator. About a month prior to the wedding, we have a call to go over a detailed wedding questionnaire I give couples and plan their wedding timeline out really well. I play music during engagement sessions to help my couples relax, I talk to them and ask them questions and above all, I ask them ahead of time how I can make them feel comfortable during a session before we even are at the shoot. If I could go back to that girl so many years ago and tell her what was coming, she would be so dang excited and proud. It also makes me proud that I successfully moved my business to a new city. We lived in Indianapolis for eleven years and that’s where I started my business. In 2021, we moved to the South Bend area to be closer to family, and, while it wasn’t easy relocating the business, I did it and have been able to expand my service areas because of it. I want to grow some mentorship opportunities for newer photographers because I’ve been there and know what it’s like to need someone to ask for advice. I also have a photography podcast that I want to keep building after taking a little break from it. I’d also love to grow a bridal boudoir side of my business and work with brides who want to have a gorgeous, editorial style bridal boudoir session prior to their wedding."

ADVICE from the PRO TOP 5 TIPS FOR WORKING WITH A RENTAL COMPANY Lauren Krempec, Special Events Designer Burns Special Events

Planning a wedding is a wondrous journey, and each step you take brings you closer to the day you've always dreamed of. Rentals may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you envision your dream wedding, but they play a pivotal role in bringing your wedding design to life. From the elegant chairs where your guests will sit during the ceremony, to the exquisite tableware they'll use to dine at your reception, rentals are the canvas upon which you paint the unique picture of your special day. The linens, lighting, décor items and even the dance floor – all these components work in harmony to create an atmosphere that reflects your style and personality. Lauren Krempec, Special Events Designer at Burns Special Events in Mishawaka, Indiana, understands the pivotal role that rentals play in making your wedding day extraordinary. Her expertise and insights, shared in the following top five tips, will empower you to navigate the world of wedding rentals with confidence and create a memorable event that truly captures your vision! 48

WEDDINGDAY

1.

2.

Start Early

Do Your Homework

Lauren's first piece of advice is to begin your rental preparations as early as possible, ideally starting a minimum of 9 months before your wedding date. Wedding dates can fill up quickly, especially during peak wedding seasons, so securing your rental items well in advance is essential. Starting early ensures that you have the best selection of rental items and prevents any last-minute stress!

Before reaching out to a rental company, Lauren recommends having a clear vision of your wedding theme, colors and style. She recommends starting a Pinterest board so you have somewhat of an idea to show during your appointment. It's also a good idea to browse through a company's inventory beforehand. "Peek on our website before coming in to help us know more of what you are looking for," she shares.

3. Have a Budget When collaborating with a rental company, effective communication is not only about articulating your preferences but also about managing your budget wisely. According to Lauren, it's essential for couples to openly discuss their expectations, financial constraints and any distinct requirements. Maintaining transparency about your budget allows the rental company to offer precise recommendations tailored to your financial plan while still addressing your specific needs. By fostering candid and honest communication, you can ensure that your rental selections align with your budget, helping you create the wedding of your dreams without breaking the bank!

4.

5.

Schedule a Meeting

Trust the Professional

If the rental company has a showroom, Lauren strongly suggests paying it a visit. Seeing the rental items in person allows you to assess their quality, color and condition. "The pictures online are great but to actually put your vision together and see it in person is a complete game changer," she notes. It's also a great opportunity to get inspired and fine-tune your choices!

Finally, Lauren reminds couples to trust the expertise of the rental company. Rental professionals have experience in executing countless weddings and events, so take their advice seriously! She shares, "We are here to help ensure you have the best day of your life and that your vision comes together."

STYLE SHOOT

Neutral Modern Boho AN EARTHY, ROMANTIC STYLE SHOOT IN CROWN POINT

56

WEDDINGDAY

T

he inspiration for this creative day came from the shoot's two lead photographers, Alyssa Ruess and Breanna Aaron. They always wanted to have a stylized photographer content day to collaborate with talented local vendors. A boho theme with neutral colors was the vision that came to mind, and it wouldn’t have been complete without the neutral floral designs from Marco Alexzondra Floral! Alyssa shares, “We love dried florals and a neutral, earthy palette. We wanted this session to be fun and romantic!” Luckily, the venue offered some fun scene setups, like the outdoor bed and the VW bus for the team to style. We think they nailed the vision with that dress, too. The floral details and full tiered skirt are perfect for this romantic vibe! WEDDINGDAY

57

WHAT WE

love

That old-fashioned Volkswagen is such a creative addition to this shoot! We love the neutral coloration that blends seamlessly into the rest of the design. This looks like a couple who is ready to pack up and drive cross-country to their honeymoon, which is such a fun idea!

Allen County Courthouse & Baker Street Station Fort Wayne, IN

As a seasoned wedding planner, Hannah was resolute about selecting a venue she had not previously worked in—a decision that led her to the enchanting Baker Street Station. "I love the details, history, and color palette of the venue, and it was perfect for what I envisioned!" Hannah raves. For the ceremony, the Allen County Courthouse stood as an ideal choice, with its rich history and marble touches. With a theme emphasizing "lush but minimal," a seemingly paradoxical blend, Hannah achieved a balance of subdued hues and opulent textures, creating a truly stunning ambiance throughout their wedding. Every detail of the day, from the personalized ceremony script to the carefully curated playlist and unconventional breakfast-for-dinner menu, echoed the couple's essence. The only challenge was narrowing down their vendor choices. Hannah shares, "I am so lucky to know so many amazing people in the wedding industry, so this was probably the hardest part of the wedding planning process!" WEDDINGDAY

The Vision Inspired by the warmth of the venue and the cozy fall weather, Gina from Sugar on the Rim Events wanted to create a shoot that reflected that very feeling. The color palette was up in the air, but once she found that rich teal linen, everything fell into place! “I wanted to take advantage of the beautiful dark tones that are available during this time of year,” Gina explains. J. Cole Photography perfectly captured these rich hues that pop right off the page!

'

The Decor It was clear that this design required some richly colored rentals to replicate the fall palette. Gina knew she wanted to utilize her peacock-teal chairs at the sweetheart table, so she needed a company with extensive inventory to find décor to match. AAYS Event Rentals provided a long list of items that helped this team solidify the vision for this shoot, including the linens, gold and black silverware, intricately designed charger plates, gold chiavari chairs and more, all of which helped elevate this shoot! 88

WEDDINGDAY

The Venue One of our favorite details about The Hall at Oakland Park is the cozy fireplace that makes such a statement in the reception hall. Gina chose to make this gorgeous element the focal point of the shoot, and we love how it is so reminiscent of a chilly autumn day! Another goal of the shoot was to highlight the lush greenery around the venue, especially the large willow tree near the pond.

WEDDINGDAY

89

The Florals Nothing says fall like the deep red, fiery orange and brilliant yellow we see in the leaves as the weather cools down. Sugar on the Rim Events recreated these colors within the floral arrangements throughout the shoot. As Gina explains, “I used a combination of foraged items like the flower pods of the coral bells, fresh jewel toned mums and bright orange crocosmia to pull together a dark and moody tablescape.” And we love the different textures and rich colors found within the bouquet! 90

The Look This A-line gown from Elegant Designs is a wonderful addition to this shoot! The long sleeves make it an ideal dress for any fall or winter Midwestern wedding while the lacy details and unique back cutout add in some flair. BÜK Weddings made this blushing bride stunning, too! We love the boho bun with face framing pieces as well as the way her makeup reflects the warm colors in the shoot.

The Cake Simplicity is sometimes the best way to balance a shoot and bring in some elegance. This cake from Gracey’s Goodies is a great example of just that! The three tiers are all white with small swipes of gold in textured areas on the icing to elevate the delectable dessert. We also love the inclusion of florals to help tie it into the rest of the design!
