JENNY & JAKE GOLIC
Jenny and Jake got engaged in the exact same spot they met—their ceramics classroom at Notre Dame. She explains, “I got switched into ceramics the night before by my advisor so it wouldn’t interfere with practice. I wasn’t thrilled about an 8 a.m. start time, but I guess it worked out!” When the two returned to campus for Jake’s sister’s graduation, Jake proposed in that very place. Jenny recalls, “It was awesome, and I was a blubbery mess!”

THE PLANNING
A TRADITIONAL CELEBRATION AT NOTRE DAME
Realizing the importance of moving quickly when trying to plan a Notre Dame wedding at the Basilica, Jenny immediately contacted her friends who had gotten married at Notre Dame the year before for advice. Jenny and Jake also found their way to Laura from MichealAngelos Events who was instrumental in planning Jenny and Jake’s dream: A wedding filled with their loved ones by their sides, an open bar, awesome food and party atmosphere. “I met with her once and she had a vision—an incredible one,” says Jenny. “I let her guide the way so I could be surprised the night of.”

BLUE AND GOLIC // Featured Wedding KATIE WHITCOMB PHOTOGRAPHY
THE DRESS Jenny recruited her mom and her best friend from high school for her dressshopping getaway to New York City. “I was so lucky that my mother-in-law and father-in-law were able to come, too. Mr. Golic wasn’t going to come into the stores, but we convinced him to, and let me tell you, he was the most opinionated and hilarious.” The group made their way to Kleinfeld Bridal and then Bridal Reflections on Fifth, where Jenny ended up falling in love with her stunning Ines Di Santo dress and Galia Lahav veil. “Mrs. Golic ended up picking my dress,” Jenny explains. “When I walked out, I knew. Mostly because everyone’s face said it all!”

ADVICE FROM THE bride
This #BlueAndGolic bride says, “Relax. It’s just a party. Not everything will go perfectly throughout planning but the most important thing is who is waiting for you on the other end of the aisle.”
THE VENUE Desiring to be close to the Basilica, Jenny and Jake chose The Morris Inn on Notre Dame’s campus. “I knew Laura could transform any space into a beautiful backdrop, but I didn’t want people driving and/or getting into other forms of transportation, if possible.”
WEDDINGDAY 13
THE DÉCOR While the décor offered a mix of whites, champagnes and soft pinks to play off the navy blue and gold theme, Jenny loved that her wedding wasn’t anything serious but still very traditional. “Jake and I really wanted our special moments at the Basilica and the traditional speeches and dances,” Jenny explains. “For example, we didn’t want to see each other before the ceremony, and it was really worth it. Other than that, we just wanted everyone to enjoy the night with us, so we got a lot of things out of the way early and made sure the drinks were plentiful and the food kept on coming!” Extra special touches included a donut station, s’mores station and drink station with an ice luge. The reception also featured two live hashtag screens up over the dance floor. Jenny says, “If anyone posted anything with the #BlueAndGolic, it went up on the screens. It was hysterical throughout the night.” Because of the great planning, Jenny’s only D.I.Y. project included the hotel welcome bags that her mom wanted to make. “She made about 300 homemade cookies,” Jenny says. “Insane!” What are a few things Jenny and Jake’s guest will remember? Two great nights of open bars, good food and music and the ring bearer pulling the fire alarm during cocktail hour!

FARM-TO-TABLE
D.I.Y. CUISINE
LATE NIGHT EATS
NAKED CAKES
This trend is all the rage as more and more people desire organic and locally grown food. Check with your area vendors to see who is buying and cooking with simple, fresh ingredients. Various venues who are also tuned in to current trends may additionally offer their own farm-to-table menus. Not only can this option be inexpensive, it is also a great option for infusing seasonal, fresh foods.
We’ve seen so many talented couples, friends and other family members out there, it’s no wonder brides are turning to their skilled team of people—and even their own culinary skills—to go beyond just crafting cakes and desserts. While this can be a hefty undertaking, depending on the menu and wedding size, this feat is certainly being accomplished. From Italian eats to tacos, the options are limitless. The bonuses? A very personal twist and an authentic “home-cooked” taste and feel!
Brides and grooms always want their guests to enjoy themselves, while having everything they need to celebrate the night away with the happy couple. Late night food such as pizza, sliders, or french fries, specialty hors d'oeuvres and food trucks are just another simple but unique way to ensure your guests continue to dance the night away, don’t leave hungry and are “wowed” by your thoughtful additions to the evening.
Offering a chic, exposed look and blank-slate appeal, naked cakes seem to fit into a variety of styles when it comes to weddings. Visual interest aside, they are absolutely delicious, too! With naked cakes, you can choose from a variety of fillings without having to commit to frosting, and while some have no icing at all, others feature icing that is barely there. With the many available options and a sophisticated look to match, one thing’s for sure: These unique confections don’t seem to be going anywhere!
WEDDINGDAY
E.
BITE-SIZED BENEFITS Just because food is tiny, doesn’t mean it can’t impress and pack a powerful punch. Small plate items, passed food plates and hors d'oeuvres as the main dish aren’t an entirely new concept but they are certainly holding their own in a world of traditional and large plate wedding entrees. With this trend, couples have many benefits. For example, they might have the option of infusing several food themes into one wedding, satisfying many different tastes, and guests have the chance to compose their own meals and sample a variety of cuisine. Trust that guests won’t go hungry, either! Just think of how full you can get at a food tasting or sampling event.
F.
DESSERT TABLES Who ever said one dessert was enough was mistaken. Well, it seems brides out there certainly agree! Cakes are being ever-increasingly accompanied by other desserts to make for one glorious display, or the cake is being eliminated all together for some yummy cake alternatives. Think pies, tarts, cupcakes, macarons, donut trays (or walls!), specialty cookies and even candy. Besides the sweet sugar rush you will be providing for your guests, these displays are both pretty to look at and provide a way for you to include nods to your own personal favorites.

CASUAL CUISINE
SIGNATURE DRINKS
FOOD STATIONS
UNIQUE DISPLAYS
While some brides crave topnotch wedding elegance and the food to match, others desire cozy “backyard” nuptials where fancier food items might feel out-of-place. Because of that, it makes perfect bridal sense to infuse the same look and feel of your wedding into your food selections. For a casual affair, tantalizing craft burgers or delicious barbeque is sure to evoke the ambience you want, and more and more brides are doing just that with family-style cuisine and casual, laid-back fare.
From brewing their own craft beer to designing signature cocktails, brides and grooms are getting ultra creative in the beverage department. When creating a custom drink for your guests to enjoy, you not only bring a fun element to your day, you are also infusing some of your own tastes and personality. We mean, when else in your life do you get to create a signature drink for all your family and friends to enjoy? Oh, and don’t forget to come up with a unique name, too!
Maybe you know exactly what food you want to serve for your big day but, for those that are not-so-lucky, food stations might be the perfect, tasty solution. For example, you love pasta but your hubby-to-be loves steak. You can marry the two with action stations and include as much variety for your guests as you would like! By manning various stations with a chef or someone to prep the food on-site, you add an “action” element that makes the food experience that much more fun and interactive!
What’s amazing food without the proper display to match? From gorgeous vintage dressers and old farm tables to colored glassware and custom platters, brides and planners alike are imagining some pretty creative ways of ensuring that wedding food and beverage is just as camera-ready as the happy couple. Whether it’s the perfect backdrop behind your dessert table, pretty chandelier at your bar or the most stunning vintage plates, display means everything.

ver since Chelsea of Chelsea Seekell Photography started shooting weddings eight years ago, she dreamt of planning her own style shoot. That dream fueled her hunt for the best locale while she collected treasured items along the way. The specific, Michigan landscape Chelsea was in search of wasn’t just any beach or sand dune location—it needed to be a special place that would lend itself to the breathtaking desert, boho vibe she envisioned. Her hard work paid off when the perfect spot finally revealed itself. Chelsea says. “I wanted the vibe to feel very free-spirited and bohemian, and it turned out exactly as I envisioned!”

DESERT VIBES // Style Shoot
Desiring a colorful palette, Chelsea chose deep reds, oranges, yellows, a little dusty rose and greenery. Mirroring the wild and free look, she created a beautifully organic bouquet, a gorgeous, eclectic tablescape and infused an authentic Moroccan rug—the final details needed to complete the downright mesmerizing desert display.

Happy Honeymooning! A GUIDE FOR GREAT MIDWEST HONEYMOON DESTINATIONS
Choosing the right honeymoon destination can be one of the more exciting parts of planning a wedding. However, that doesn’t necessarily make it an easy choice. And while exotic locales and far away destinations are certainly alluring, the Midwest is brimming with honeymoon destinations tailored to satisfy many tastes and fit with many seasons. We gathered some great picks to help with your hunt for the perfect destination. Brace yourself...you might just want to pack your bags tonight!
WEDDINGDAY 33
THE
Romantic BRIDE
Saugatuck
Mackinac Island MICHIGAN
If there’s a Midwest destination that embodies romance, it’s Mackinac Island. From its lovely ambience to the beautiful Michigan weather, you will be smitten with all of the gorgeous scenery and relaxing activities available, not to mention the countless places to stargaze or watch stunning sunsets. Boasting family-owned properties and lodgings in a place where the “clip-clop” of horses can still be heard, you can stay and dine at places like the Hotel Iroquois—complete with a waterfront setting overlooking the Straits of Mackinac and a private sunbathing beach. You can also partake in an incredible wine tasting experience at the Wine Cellar at Goodfellas or a his and hers sauna at a local spa. If that’s not enough, a scenic kayak tour, island bike ride or romantic carriage ride is sure to light the flame.
MICHIGAN Saugatuck is one quaint coastal town that will charm you from the moment you enter it. With its artsy boutiques, one-of-a-kind shops, friendly faces and a variety of tasty restaurants to choose from—all mixed up with a beachy, lakeside vibe—this town delivers a romantic and vintage atmosphere you’re sure to fall in love with. With the nearby beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline to enjoy, you have your choice between different beaches and recreational activities. While lodging options are varied too, imagine a stay in a cozy coastline cottage or at sweet bed and breakfast in town. Wickwood Inn, a boutique hotel, offers old world charm, a peaceful atmosphere and boasts that it’s “seeped in romance.” Visit sweet spots like The Belvedere Inn & Restaurant, built in 1913, for a lovely dinner for two!

WEST BADEN SPRINGS HOTEL, FRENCH LICK Carpenter Photo & Design
MIDWEST HONEYMOONS
French Lick INDIANA
If grand resorts, spas, scenic surroundings or a round of golf sound right up your alley, French Lick, Indiana will leave you feeling pampered and refreshed. Located amongst the gorgeous hills of the Hoosier National Forest, this Southern Indiana town is a unique destination perfect for a honeymoon getaway. The area features its fair dose of charm but also impresses with local luxury resorts full of opulence such as West Baden Hotel and French Lick Springs Hotel. Whether it’s fine dining, live music or a couple’s massage you desire, you won’t be disappointed with the area’s many offerings.
Lake Geneva WISCONSIN
Located in Southeastern Wisconsin, Lake Geneva is a city featuring world-class resorts, beachside mansions and impressive rentals. Being a favorite vacation spot for Chicagoans and Wisconsin residents, this has all the ingredients for a special time. Choosing where to stay is half the fun, too as this destination features cozy boutique hotels, cute bed and breakfasts or luxury vacation rentals. If you love water, a boat cruise or boat rental will certainly make for a romantic day on the lake. You can also walk the local trails, spend a day on the beach or at a day spa and just soak in all that the area has to offer by planning an itinerary full of fun and special activities with just you and your new spouse.

THE
Outdoorsy BRIDE
Traverse City
Wisconsin Dells
Romantic beaches and trails, quaint villages, tons of outdoor activities and a true taste of Michigan is all rolled up into one with Traverse City. No matter what the season may be, it’s a true playground for couples who are outdoor adventurers at heart. Boasting 180 miles of beaches, you won’t be short of beautiful scenes to take in. A visit to Old Mission Peninsula, for example, will offer wine tasting tours, cherry orchards, places to dine and gorgeous coastline views. If you’re looking for even more, visit a local festival, learn to sail, charter a boat or trek secluded trails in the Pere Marquette State Forest.
Deemed the waterpark capital of the world, with nearby attractions such as Devil's Lake or Mirror Lake State Park, there is enough available for nature lovers as well. Whether you enjoy fishing, hiking or getting cozy in a luxurious cabin suite, the Dells might be just the place for your honeymoon destination. From touring Lost Canyon to camping or ziplining, skiing or snowboarding, this area offers little to big tastes of adventure. And it isn’t short on great honeymoon lodges or resorts, either. You can rest and unwind in a place like Cliffside Resort & Suites, nestled above Lake Delton.

THE GROOMSMAN SUIT Anna Zajac Photography
Menswear for the
MODERN GROOM While the wedding industry sees its fair share of change like any other, some things never change. For example, the lengths a bride will go to ensure her wedding day look is perfect is just as important today as it was eons ago. Whether it’s traveling across the country to find the perfect dress or working with a seamstress to customize her gown, today’s modern bride still spends a fair amount of focus, time and emotional energy ensuring her look is nothing short of stunning (down to every last button, sequin, stitch and heel!).
42
WEDDINGDAY
But men certainly shouldn’t be left in the dust. Their big day is a chance for them to stand out, too and they also deserve to look and feel their very best. While grooms of yesteryears may have been forced to go the route so many have gone before—squeezing into used rental tuxedos that do little to highlight their own personal fit and style, we’re excited to see that today’s modern groom has more options. And for many, that means working with a great menswear provider and investing in a fine garment that can be worn for years to come.
We decided to check in with some industry experts whose companies are devoted to providing the great quality, service, style, education and affordable options to men that bridal boutiques have been giving to brides for decades. Among them are John Porter, owner of Andrew Davis Clothiers, Ge Wang, owner of ESQ Clothing and Katy Eriks, Stylist and Customer Care Guru at The Groomsman Suit. See why these menswear providers recognize what the modern groom is looking for and, in doing so, have helped many discover their best look for a day they will remember forever.
WHY SHOULD A GROOM GET A SUIT FOR HIS WEDDING? ADC
ESQ
TGS
"He will have a fine garment in his closet for years to come that he can wear at others' weddings, business events, and other special occasions. Each time he wears his suit, he will be subtly reminded of the most important day of his life." “Though it’s ‘her’ day, you should also look the part. On your most important day, a custom suit will not only help boost your confidence, it’ll change the way your bride looks at you. Not only will you obtain something that fits perfect, but you and your bride will also get to design each element of the suit or tuxedo— from fabric to lining and everything else. In short, she’s certainly going to look her best. You should look yours, too!” “Most men wear suiting more frequently than tuxedos. Owning a nicely fitted suit is never a bad investment, but what about a tuxedo? You’ve probably had to wear one on several occasions, and every time you do you convince yourself it’s probably the last time you’ll really need a tux, so you choose to rent. But, as you get older, the need to go black tie is going to happen at least once or twice a year and if you owned one, you could find a fun excuse to wear it a few more times. Not only can owning a tuxedo be more affordable, it is also way more convenient. It will always make sense to own a tux, shirt and shoes for a comparable price to a rental. At The Groomsman Suit, we believe every man should own a tuxedo, look sharp, and not spend a fortune.”
WHAT IS YOUR COMPANY’S PROCESS FOR HELPING A GROOM CHOSE A GREAT SUIT? ADC
TGS
“We dress gentlemen in garments that are true, honest expressions of themselves. The perfect fit is most important. Fabric and customizations come next. No matter how modest or grand his budget may be, we provide our clients with the best suiting and formalwear selections available.” “At The Groomsman Suit, we are here to make the bride and groom’s style dreams come true. We work with couples from the beginning of their planning process when they are still deciding on their color palette until the end as they are putting on the finishing touches with suspenders and/ or cufflinks. With groomsmen and bridesmen scattered across the country, it’s critical couples select a menswear provider that can ship nationally. We understand people can be nervous about purchasing suiting online which is why we offer our couples a free trial suit so they can check out our suits in the comfort of their own home before asking their guys to buy. Once they decide to suit up with us, we facilitate the ordering process and outreach to their groomsmen or bridesmen to ensure that everyone orders the right suit, the right size and on time for the wedding.”
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A GROOM HAVING PERSONAL WEDDING STYLE? ADC
ESQ
“Executive style consultant Andrew Weitz says personal style is your visual business card. What better day than your wedding to make impressions that will last a lifetime?” “So many things are involved in leading up to a wedding day, your confidence in your outfit should be the least of your concerns. You’ll have something that you truly feel comfortable in. In other words, a custom suit done right should lend itself to you wearing the suit, and not the suit wearing you."
WHAT STYLE TIPS WOULD YOU GIVE TO THE MODERN GROOM? TGS
ESQ
“Your photos will last a lifetime and you want to love your look for years to come. You don’t have to pay a fortune to look great on your wedding day. We’re proud to offer stylish suiting and tuxedos for $179! Looking sharp in a suit is all about the fit. For this reason, we carry one of the largest size ranges of any brand across two fit types and four lengths, allowing men to get as close to a custom fit as possible.” “In terms of my personal advice, it’s always 'less is more.' With ESQ Clothing, each of our garments are handmade using English and Italian fabrics. Thus, each garment will simply shine just because of the excellent fabric...not to mention all the handmade details. But the most important thing I tell my clients—be it from grooms walking down the aisle or a celebrity down a red carpet—is try to avoid wearing something that you’re going to regret 10 years down the road. Yes, that means don’t do the powder blue suit…save that for a future occasion.”

THE EASIEST GUIDE TO changing your last name
AFTER THE WEDDING
Y
our newlywed bliss can quickly come to an end when it comes time to endure the dreaded task of changing your last name. The legal process can often take the romance out of taking your significant other’s last name. If you get yourself organized with the proper documents, the process can be less strenuous, allowing you to continue to revel in your newlywed happiness.
1. GET THE ORIGINAL
3. APPLY FOR A NEW LICENSE
5. UPDATE YOUR BANK
Getting a new license from the local Bureau of Motor Vehicles office requires a few documents, namely your old license, the original marriage license and your new Social Security card. Remember to change your address if you have moved after the wedding.
The easiest way to do this is to visit your local branch in person. Take your new license, your marriage license and your new Social Security card, and ask for your name to be changed on your account. Request new checks, debit cards and credit cards with your new name.
2. REQUEST A NEW SOCIAL
4. CHANGE YOUR LAST NAME
6. UPDATE YOUR LAST NAME
If you visit the Social Security Administration’s website, you can find an application for a change of name here. This is a free service. Print the application, fill it out, and include any required documents. You can either take your application to a nearby Social Security office or mail it in. You should receive your new card with your new last name in approximately 10 days.
When your new Social Security card comes in the mail, meet with your HR manager at work to switch your name over. This includes payroll, 401k, your insurance benefits, stocks etc.
MARRIAGE LICENSE FROM THE CLERK’S OFFICE The original license should come from the clerk’s office where your license was filed. One should automatically be sent to you a couple weeks after the wedding. The original document should have a raised seal and your new last name. Also, it’s a good idea to request copies.

JULIA & VINCENZO RULLI
Graduating just one year apart, Julia and Vincenzo spent their elementary and high school years navigating the same hallways. It wasn’t until their sophomore year in college that they officially met. “Our story began on September 8, 2012 when Notre Dame’s football team was playing Purdue University in South Bend,” Julia recalls. “After attending the game, I celebrated the Irish victory with a bonfire at a friend’s house. As it turned out, Vinnie and I had mutual friends, and we were casually introduced at the bonfire. We hit it off immediately and became friends ourselves.” After a month or so of friendship, Julia agreed to be Vinnie’s date at his cousin’s annual Halloween party. Besides spending a lot of time together that weekend, Vinnie fixed the brakes on Julia’s car and even met Julia’s entire family at Sunday dinner. “That weekend, I got my first glimpse into the incredible person Vinnie is,” says Julia. “Our friendship grew stronger and continues to grow after four and a half years of dating—and now marriage!”

THE PLANNING
wedding
AT THE GILLESPIE CONFERENCE CENTER
Planning proved to be a breeze for Julia as she had a very valuable resource in her corner. Her mom is an event planner and has served the Michiana area for many years. Julia explains, “It was very helpful to have my mother be our wedding planner. Within the first month of our engagement, we had all our major vendors booked and were able to relax until other deadlines on our wedding timeline approached.”

THE DRESS With her heart set on a sparkly and dramatic princess ball gown, Julia did her fair share of searching in the Michiana area. Wondering if “the one” was really out there, she decided to check out Marie Gabriel Couture in Indianapolis. “The element that made my final decision easy was the staff at Marie Gabriel Couture,” she says. “They were amazing! After noticing how disappointed I was in each sparkly ball gown, she tried something different—a plain satin mermaid dress. Knowing that I wanted sparkle, she didn’t let me out of the dressing room without adding the right amount of bling. With a crystal belt, dangling crystal earrings and a crystal beaded veil…It was perfect—and so me! We also added crystal buttons to the back of the gown."
THE FLORALS The sweet bridal bouquets featured white and pink peonies and light pink sweet peas. Nothing was spared when designing the reception centerpieces. The gorgeous florals featured pink peonies, white hydrangeas, blush quicksand roses, light pink majolica spray roses, pink o’hara roses, cherry blossoms, silver curly willow, white stock, silver salvia and silver Italian ruscus.

WHAT WE
love
This couple put a lot of effort into all their wedding details and were thrilled their hard work paid off. “In my opinion, the personal touches & décor were pretty amazing—both in the pre-function space and reception area,” says Julia. “It was so much fun celebrating with friends and family. The band knocked it out of the park and everyone was dancing!”
THE VENUE
THE DÉCOR
Choosing the right venue was one of the most important decisions the couple faced. “We narrowed it down to two venues with both being perfect for the style of wedding we wanted.” The venue would not only need to be big enough to accommodate the large number of family and friends, but also be a convenient location for their guests. In the end, The Gillespie Conference Center located at the Hilton Garden Inn, in South Bend met all their conditions. The couple loved that the Gillespie offered them and their guests the convenience of a quick walk to their hotel room after a long day. They also loved the pre-function area that connected to the outdoor private patio so their guests could step outside and not feel separated from the event.
The pre-function space coordinated well with the main ball room. It wowed with added crystal chandeliers and black and white engagement photos with embellishments of fresh cymbidium orchids. Julia and Vinnie could not have been more pleased when they saw the reception for the first time. They were overwhelmed by all the hard work their talented team of vendors put into their special day. From the breathtaking florals to all the added sparkle accents, it was truly what they had hoped for. Soft, white up-lighting transitioned to soft pink as the bride and groom had their first dance. Julia attributes the overall reception design to her mom. Alternatively, her mom insists it was Julia’s vision from the start and they were able to work hand-in-hand on the overall design to make Julia’s dream wedding come true. Julia and her mom also collaborated with Lined Goods to design all the paper products.

SPECIAL TOUCHES Imagine walking into a reception and being able to experience the couple’s wedding day photo shoot. A black and white slideshow of images taken of that very day surprised their guests as the bride and groom made their way to the dance floor. The couple highlighted their Italian roots with the entire dinner menu beginning with a his and hers first course and ending with an elaborate Italian dessert station. The traditional Italian wedding favors with the five Italian almonds were a must to wish the couple good fortune. The only late night snack suitable for this reception was Rulli’s Pizza! The Italian restaurant located in Elkhart and owned by Vinnie’s aunt and uncle catered an assortment of piping hot pizzas for the couple’s guests. “Vinnie is a huge superhero fan,” says Julia. “His groomsmen wore superhero socks and Vinnie had special Superman socks with red capes flapping on each ankle!” 54

hat a fantastic year 2017 has been and one full of big changes for Burns Rent-Alls! After moving their warehouse in January 2017 to a new location of 2401 N. Home Street in Mishawaka, Indiana, they followed with a move of the Special Events Office in May, once the remodel was complete. “Our company has continued to expand with each passing year and we needed a location that would allow all of our operations to be in one place while providing plenty of space for our ever-expanding rental inventory!” says Amelia Huston, Special Event and 60

Warehouse Assistant. “Our new location has allowed us to create a brand new showroom and an up and coming interactive design studio right in our office! Before our move, this long-standing family business had been located on Mishawaka Avenue for over 100 years! We are so excited to be in this new space and look forward to continuing the journey of making this new building fun and exciting for everyone who visits!" As part of a night of networking and inspiration, WeddingDay partnered with Burns to celebrate our new issue release and
Burns’ Open House on November 1st, 2017. Just one of the evening's exciting events was a tablescape contest in which teams were formed and each created their own unique tablescape. “We provided multiple styles of chairs, linen, china, flatware, glassware, chargers and centerpieces,” explains Amelia. “Teams chose their inspiration and created their table. Event specialists judged the tables based on expertise and standards we use to set-up events. The winning team was chosen based on proper placement of glassware, flatware, china and overall creativity.”
HERE ARE JUST A FEW GREAT EXAMPLES OF THE IMPRESSIVE TABLESCAPES BURNS PRESENTS TO GUESTS AS THEY WALK THROUGH THEIR STUNNING, NEW SPACE:
FALL ELEMENTS “We were thinking of nature and fall when designing this table. The copper flatware and bronze runner brought such a warm feel to the wooden farm table while the vibrant flowers, greenery and orange napkin pulled in the fall colors. The final touch, our Jenny plates, added to the look and tied the china into our theme.”
OMG PHOTOGRAPHY
WHITE & BURNS GREEN “While designing this table we were thinking of a pure white look with a pop of color (Burns Green). We set sheer white drapes to softly frame the table, white flooring, a white rosette linen to add texture, and white furniture for a lounge area to the side. We brought in color with black china and flatware and the bold, crisp, green chair and drape ties, napkin rings and centerpieces.”

MODERN ELEGANCE “For this table we used our new customizable modern furniture paired with a metallic linen (from our newly launched linen line!). We used silver china and added in color with our cobalt goblets and black Rizzo flatware. The mirrored centerpiece box and crystal ball finished off the elegant look while keeping it modern."

THE VISION With the beautiful Empyrean event venue as our backdrop, rich with both luxurious and modern detailing, we knew our cover shoot was sure to inspire. Combining the experience of a vendor dream team led by Empyrean’s Chief Event Designer, Renee Miner, we combined several bridal looks that seamlessly married romance with a bit of drama. “The concept behind the shoot was driven by a combination of different styles and moods colliding into one rich and dramatic, almost theatrical design,” says Renee. “We have found our most successful ideas come from a team effort and this shoot was no exception. Our design team collaborated from concept to completion and created a stunning look that encompassed the exact style we were trying to achieve.”

DRAMA MEETS ROMANCE // Cover Shoot
THE VENUE Flawless planning and modern design are certainly synonymous with the Empyrean, located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. “Our venue has a modern yet classic design which allows it to function as a chameleon for each of our events,” explains Renee. “The overall richness in the hardwood flooring and natural lighting aided in the shoot’s overall style. Knowing we were going to do a complete backdrop within the design, the venue needed to bring simple but impactful elements, and we were able to achieve that goal.”
THE DÉCOR “This shoot relied heavily on rental items,” Renee explains. “The selection of charger plates was very intentional to bring together the full range of color we were looking for and the ‘wow’ piece of the shoot…that amazing chair. We were smitten. The rentals truly did pull everything together into one gorgeous design.” Other key elements included the soft yet moody color palette and an air of romance with a touch of edge.

THE FLORALS An abundance of florals served as a showstopper in the overall design. “One of the exciting parts of creating this design was using a variety of different floral selections,” says Renee. “One of our favorites, Blushing Bride, paired with the heavily textured Amaranthus, gorgeous garden roses and an abundance of rich greenery combined to create a gorgeous floral palette that brought our vision to life.” GEM PHOTOGRAPHY

THE LOOKS Our bride was lucky enough to wear three gorgeous looks, provided by One Fine Day. The simple Essense of Australia gown was the definition of sleek and chic and definitely embodied the “clean look” trend. Autumn Parton, owner of One Fine Day, says, “The gown allowed the Empyrean's amazing venue and view to shine and complemented all the clean lines of the windows, trim and floors. We constructed the statement bow on the back so the dress had a wow moment!” The hand-beaded bodice on the Hayley Paige “Kenny” dress looked absolutely lovely set against all the detail of the reception décor and florals. “The softness of the organza skirt blended beautifully with the statement wall and luxurious table linens,” says Autumn. And finally, the Hayley Paige “Reagan” dress was a perfect complement to the bold colors and fun décor. “This blush colored dress features a beautiful high neckline and fun, textured skirt with just enough sparkle,” says Autumn. “The blush color popped so beautifully against the table linens and looked stunning for this modern, colorful wedding inspiration.” For hair and makeup, The Red Stiletto was given the direction of “steam punk glam,” a concept that matched the modern drama of the overall look. While the team still wanted to maintain a traditional bridal look, they upped the ante with dramatic touches. Emily Franks’ design included a traditional side bun but used a mohawk as inspiration. She also added texture by incorporating braids, a hot trend. For makeup, Hope Matchett’s focus was eyes to draw readers in. She created the eye-catching vision using MAC products. 74

THE CAKE “We believe cake design is an extension of the overall design style of a wedding, and we wanted to pull the rich color tones together with a modern yet classic look,” says Renee. The gorgeous cake and its display, designed by SassieCakes perfectly infused the shoot’s lovely mineral tones.
