ll your needs will be met at The Holiday Inn. From their chic, inviting lobby to their spacious hotel rooms - you and your guests will be impressed and pampered. This style shoot highlights their amazing pre-function space where you can sip on cocktails and enjoy intimate, irreplaceable moments with your friends and family. You will also celebrate your once-in-a-lifetime day in their St. Joseph Ballroom with up to 600 guests. Featuring Sputnik hoop chandeliers with fresh colors, there is no theme that does not fit this space. Burns Special Events sent in Kelsey Wagner, Special Events Designer, to help create a modern, spring vision within this space. Kelsey says, “A ballroom is a classic elegant space to host a wedding. We wanted to keep it classic, but bring in modern colors such as the coral to show that you can bring a twist to the classic wedding.” The bright coral colors mixed with golden flatware, golden Chiavari chairs and neutral furniture helped the space transform into a sweet, spring atmosphere. Snapdragon-Designs curated lush floral décor that utilized bold color for an unforgettable look. With Love Cupcakes and Cakes provided a watercolor, threetiered cake that brought in a trend most couples are seeking for the big day.

FEATURED WEDDING
RACHEL & JOHN DUNBAR
Rachel always had a love for the outdoors. From horseback riding to hiking - the outdoors were her home. That is why John’s proposal was more than perfect. As he and Rachel were walking a tree-lined path, he stopped to pop the question and the answer was “yes!”. Rachel adds, “We sat for a moment and cried tears of joy and then walked back to the house where Johnny had arranged for family and close friends to be there to join in the celebration.”

fall-ing in love
A SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN FALL WEDDING WITH NEW STYLE
THE PLANNING The couple began planning a wedding that would nod to their earthy vibes. They decided that a fall wedding was ideal as the season offered unequivocal natural beauty from its rich tones and romantic atmosphere. Rachel says, “We were also pretty set on having a Saturday wedding so options were limited as many places had understandably been fully booked.”

THE DRESS “I knew I wanted to have something off the shoulders that was comfortable and simple that I could move in,” notes Rachel. “I had Grace Loves Lace on my radar but knew they were an Australia based brand with only limited U.S. showroom locations.” Rachel did not give up easily, though, as she was able to find the brand at a Chicago showroom for a limited time. She knew the dress would be the ideal match for her fall wedding. She says, “When I tried the Cien gown on, it fit like a glove and I was hooked.”

HEY SISTERS! PHOTOGRAPHY
THE VENUE As luck would have it, the couple was able to secure one of Southwest Michigan’s most popular wedding venues. The couple set their eyes on Tabor Hill, an outdoor vineyard event space in Buchanan, Michigan. Tabor Hill was everything they could wish for and more with their lush vines, whimsical countryside scenery and luxury Estate tent.
THE PALETTE Rachel wanted to have a fall wedding with a more modern palette. She picked a deep burgundy color scheme with touches of greenery to keep everything fresh. She adds, “We chose deep shades of burgundy based on the fall timing and elegance it brought.” Her bouquet boasted all-white florals that added a bright hue to the organic colors of the seasons, while the tablescape played with pastel pinks and burgundy for a fun, elegant look.

WHAT WE
love
Rachel and John made their ceremony extra special by including their friends and family. Rachel says, “We wrote our own ceremony and vows, which meant a lot to us as we were able to incorporate family members and close friends into the ceremony by asking them to share a blessing. Having those blessings at the ceremony brought everyone closer together and created unforgettable memories.

f you have ever been to the Southwest Michigan area, then you will know that Froehlich’s (a family-owned bakery, deli and caterer) is a staple food connoisseur in the region. Froehlich’s has been longtrusted by couples and vendors alike in the wedding industry, so when they announced that they would be opening a new venue space in 2019—we all waited in anticipation. John Wagner, the Events and Catering Director, for the new venue named 19 North describes the space as, “Rustic opulence with a touch of rough luxe”. This space is a couple’s dreams come true, so for this Exclusive WeddingDay Style Shoot, the team decided on creating an impressive, deep-hued design with opulent details planned by Unveiled Weddings & Events and captured by Aguilar Photography. AGUILAR PHOTOGRAPHY
19 North features details like an original, tin ceiling, industrial light fixtures and wood-plank floors. John adds, “19 North offers couples a majestic ceremony space that is turned into a beautiful reception area for dinner and dancing, glassed-in cocktail reception area, built-in bar and a fully appointed bridal suite with a private bathroom any bride will be comfortable in.” Given all the unique highlights of the venue, the team knew they wanted to show off how the space at 19 North delivers modern style with that unmistakable Midwest vibe. The planner for the shoot, Allison Booker of Unveiled Weddings & Events, says, “There were some amazing bones in the structure along with stunning full-length windows. We just couldn’t get enough! We really love blending hard lines of industrial spaces with delicate details to create the perfect ebb and flow.”

DESTINATION WEDDING
The Destination Wedding OF AMANDA & ALEX
A LOOK INTO HOW THIS WEDDING PLANNER TIED THE KNOT IN MEXICO
B
eing a wedding planner herself, Amanda and Alex knew what they wanted right away. Amanda adds, “We knew we wanted to get married early in the day so we could spend the rest of the day relaxing with our friends and family. We wanted bright colors for our brunch after the ceremony and dark colors for our evening reception. We wanted a killer view for photos and great weather!” Everything on this wish list pointed them in the direction of having a destination wedding. They decided to start looking for places to tie the knot in Mexico!
“We started by choosing where we wanted to get married and after that, we started looking for houses that could hold 20+ guests,” says Amanda. Aiming to plan a super cute micro wedding, Amanda adds, “We really didn’t want to get married at a resort because we wanted everything to be private and everyone to feel like it was their vacation home too.” They ended up finding an oasis-like vacation home in Mismaloya, Mexico. The house had everything they were looking for and more. It was big enough that everyone could stay there and have their own vacation around the wedding. It also featured an entirely too picturesque terrace for the ceremony.

This couple added in some super fun details on the big day. From Alex’s floral suit to their casual beach photo session—there were several little elements that made their destination wedding a truly relaxing and fun experience. Their color palette mimicked the bold details. Amanda says, “My favorite color has been purple since I was little so I knew that lavender was a must. Rose gold is one of my favorite accents and I let my husband pick the third color and he picked navy. It worked out pretty well!” The eclectic palette was ideal for the locale and offered an adventurous atmosphere.

THE EASIEST GUIDE TO changing your last name
AFTER THE WEDDING
Y
our newlywed bliss can quickly come to an end when it comes time to endure the dreaded task of changing your last name. The legal process can often take the romance out of taking your significant other’s last name. If you get yourself organized with the proper documents, the process can be less strenuous, allowing you to continue to revel in your newlywed happiness.
1. GET THE ORIGINAL
3. APPLY FOR A NEW LICENSE
5. UPDATE YOUR BANK
Getting a new license from the local Bureau of Motor Vehicles office requires a few documents, namely your old license, the original marriage license and your new Social Security card. Remember to change your address if you have moved after the wedding.
The easiest way to do this is to visit your local branch in person. Take your new license, your marriage license and your new Social Security card, and ask for your name to be changed on your account. Request new checks, debit cards and credit cards with your new name.
2. REQUEST A NEW SOCIAL
4. CHANGE YOUR LAST NAME
6. UPDATE YOUR LAST NAME
If you visit the Social Security Administration’s website, you can find an application for a change of name here. This is a free service. Print the application, fill it out, and include any required documents. You can either take your application to a nearby Social Security office or mail it in. You should receive your new card with your new last name in approximately 10 days.
When your new Social Security card comes in the mail, meet with your HR manager at work to switch your name over. This includes payroll, 401k, your insurance benefits, stocks etc.
MARRIAGE LICENSE FROM THE CLERK’S OFFICE The original license should come from the clerk’s office where your license was filed. One should automatically be sent to you a couple weeks after the wedding. The original document should have a raised seal and your new last name. Also, it’s a good idea to request copies.

THE OPTION OF ELOPEMENTS MAY BE SOMETHING THAT HAS CROSSED THE MIND OF MANY COUPLES WHEN IT COMES TO T YING THE KNOT. ESPECIALLY AS ELOPEMENTS ARE BECOMING A POPULAR OPTION WITH MODERN COUPLES GIVEN FINANCIAL REASONS, TIME AND STRESS. A study conducted by OnePoll and commissioned by Stillwhite.com found that only 39 percent of brides reported financial contribution from their families and that 6 out of 10 couples considered an elopement over a traditional wedding.

WEDDINGDAY
Brides and grooms alike are starting to realize that elopements are an authentic, stress-free option for marriage. On top of that, there are elopement companies popping up across the country that curate personally stylized elopement ceremonies so that couples can still celebrate in fashion. One elopement vendor group in Indianapolis offers an all-inclusive service from a licensed officiant and photographer to florals and design options. Sarah Agee, owner and designer at Plum & Poppy Weddings, a wedding planning and design company in this Indy-based group, says, “You can have all the same personal details like writing your own vows at an elopement. We take care of all the big and little details so they can focus on each other and their guests.” That is right! You still get those personal details that make the day truly yours. “We take all the hard work out of it. We help make things simple and easy,” adds Sarah. “We can also help them pull things together in a short time frame.” This easy and ready-to-go option is a no-brainer to many young couples and the price tag is even more inviting. It gives Millennials that desired, individualized experience without sacrificing the significance and connection that a wedding day represents. Sarah also notes, “You can still have guests at your elopement. Many couples choose to just have their closest friend or parents in attendance.” Knowing that you will only have the people that mean the most to you there on the most meaningful day of your life can subtract any extraneous distractions (cue that cousin who can’t stop whining about how they will forever be single). Many groups of vendors around the country are making it their goal to curate genuine, stylish elopements for couples and Millennials are loving the option.
YOU CAN HAVE ALL THE SAME PERSONAL DETAILS LIKE WRITING YOUR OWN VOWS AT AN ELOPEMENT. WE TAKE CARE OF ALL THE BIG AND LITTLE DETAILS SO THEY CAN FOCUS ON EACH OTHER AND THEIR GUESTS. As elopements are departing far from that stereotypical image of a fast, courthouse affair—photographers, florists and wedding designers are forging a new style of wedding. Couples can now get everything they want and more by simply purchasing an elopement package. Best of all, there is almost nothing they need to plan. Sarah says, “All the couple needs to do is buy their clothing, invite whomever they’d like and plan the details they want to include.” These details can include flowers, dessert and hair and makeup. A couple can go from engaged to married within a few weeks without breaking the bank and avoiding all that planning stress.

a pop of color
here, a dash of greenery there A VIBRANT WEDDING CELEBRATION
We have featured many beautiful weddings within our magazine, but this wedding is a little more special because it is the wedding of one of our favorite photographers - Gabrielle Cheikh. Gabrielle met her husband, Jack, on Tinder. She says, “We ended up learning that we grew up in the same neighborhood and had probably crossed paths many times in our childhood and just didn’t know it.” After that first date, Jack and Gabrielle knew the rest was history and that a proposal was soon to come. Gabrielle had gone to New York for a show and Jack decided to fly there with Gabrielle’s friend (who happens to be a photographer too) for a surprise proposal. Gabrielle says, “I thought I was going to meet an old friend for dinner that night at a rooftop bar and instead was surprised by him on one knee with the entire restaurant watching us and cheering.”

A VIBRANT WEDDING CELEBRATION // Featured Wedding
THE PLANNING Being a photographer, Gabrielle already had a few ideas for her wedding. She and Jack were planning for a 300 person wedding in October, but the surprises kept coming. Gabrielle says, “We found out that we had a special little person who would be joining our family in September. We quickly rethought our day and what felt truly right for us. The three of us.”
THE DRESS Gabrielle had to change her plans for the dress once she found out that she was expecting. Like any bride, she knew that she still wanted that elegant, stunning look. We think it is easy to say that she is one of the most beautiful brides we’ve seen. Gabrielle says, “I wanted to find something that I could easily alter to fit my ever growing bump as well as something that I could pair with my grandmother's belt. I searched and searched until I finally found a simple dress from Nordstrom that I fell in love with.” Gabrielle also added a detachable train with the help of Sarah Knochel of Something Wonderful Alterations and was able to wear her dream dress.

THE ATMOSPHERE & VENUE Jack and Gabrielle wanted an offbeat, colorful wedding. They were hoping to create a space that would be open and light. Gabrielle adds, “We had in mind a space that was more neutral so that we could really choose our palette and fill it with our own color. What better location than Milktooth in Indiana? Milktooth offered everything the couple wanted and more from the high-ceilings and live-edge tables to the uniquely patterned wall. Best of all, the owner of Milktooth, Jon Brooks, was able to make some delicious Lebanese food for the wedding.

THE DÉCOR One of the best highlights of this wedding is all of the colors. Gabrielle remarks, “We wanted it to be the happiest day. What better way to create that mood than bright colors and textures? We wanted to play off some of the décor that was already at Milktooth as well as make it feel like a whimsical little slice of heaven.” Needless to say, a technicolored atmosphere was created and made for a vibrant design that could make anyone smile. Isibeal Studio designed an endless amount of florals that used every color under the rainbow and the result was nothing short of dazzling. 64

Come and experience what brides and their families from all over have loved about The Lodge at River Valley Farm. “For the bride who settles for nothing less than spectacular.”
Melody Withers Photography
What was once a real working farm in the 1940’s for descendants of the Ball (yes, Ball jar!) family has been uniquely restored into a private sanctuary to host your dream wedding. Located in quaint Yorktown, Indiana, The Lodge sits on fifty acres surrounded by farm fields and woods, yet just a few miles from bustling Muncie. The property still houses the beautifully restored farmhouse from the 1850’s with all the modern amenities to fit into a busy bride’s day of readiness. Located just a mere sidewalk away is the 5,000-square-foot masterpiece fully enclosed space, The Lodge. Boasting a floor plan complete with a reception area, dance floor with twinkle wrapped post and beams from the original 1850’s barn, window lined dining area with stone covered fireplace and mantle, catering room and indoor restrooms, The Lodge is the ideal space for lasting memories. From the bubbling boulders at the entrance to the majestic cathedral ceilings inside it is sure to be a day you and your guests will always remember.

COVER SHOOT
Unhidden Romance at Hi d den V in eyard We d d i n g B ar n A COVER SHOOT IN BERRIEN SPRINGS, MICHIGAN
THE VENUE It may be a surprise to some to find that Southwest Michigan is home to some of the most beautiful vineyards in the world. For those of us that are in on the secret, well, we are in love! One of those stunning locales is Hidden Vineyard Wedding Barn. This venue is not only sought after by Michigan brides but brides from across the country (including California). That is why Hidden Vineyard Wedding Barn was picked as the site of our 2019 Issue 2 cover shoot.
CYNTHIA BOYLE PHOTOGRAPHY
THE VISION Kelsey Hahn of White Dahlia Events helped bring to life this romantic vineyard vision captured by Cynthia Boyle Photography. She says, “WeddingDay came to me with the general direction they wanted to go, which was an Italian Vineyard theme. I loved it so much and ran with it. I’ve heard Hidden Vineyard referred to as the ‘Napa Valley’ of Michigan, so it was very fitting!” With the desire of a warm atmosphere with elegant, romantic features there was no other place to do this shoot. “What is there not to love about it?”, asks Kelsey. “From the rustic barn with a large back deck and the 150-year-old ceremony tree to the beautiful vineyard tucked behind the crystal pond and wildflower field, there is space for limitless romance.” Hidden Vineyard is host to natural elements that easily add enchantment to any ceremony.
WEDDINGDAY 73
THE LOOK “We really wanted something elegant, flowy and lacy that would fit the elegant Tuscan feel we were seeking,” says Kelsey. “BIANKA Bridal definitely came through with a gorgeous A-line dress, with a tasteful plunging neckline and delicate lace details.” To pair with this modern gown, Nicholas J Salon created a soft, feminine makeup look for the bride. A relaxed updo with a gorgeous smoky eye created the ultimate romantic look. The Groomsman Suit offered masculine prowess and modern style. A groom outfitted like this is sure to leave his significant other smiling!

UNHIDDEN ROMANCE // Cover Shoot
THE FLORALS For this truly amorous shoot, there had to be florals that were nothing less than lavish. Crystal Spring Florist designed florals that went above and beyond for this vision. Kelsey notes, “We wanted the flowers to be elegant yet have lots of texture. So, we included a lot of greenery like eucalyptus, dusty miller and Ivan Hoe. For the flowers, we used pale pink and ivory garden roses. We also added sprigs of Brunia Berry for texture and color. Along the table, we used curly willow branches to really give the table some fullness and texture.
WEDDINGDAY 75
THE DÉCOR There were several pieces that added to the theme of the shoot. Utilizing rustic farm tables and cross back chairs, the team built upon these using a beautiful pairing of modern slate-gray tableware with soft linen textures for an airy edge. Kelsey says, “Topped off with a slate-gray napkin and gold silverware to frame the dishes, the tablescape was complete. It was a stunning mix of modern, elegant and vintage.” The stationery also added to these stunning textures. Created by Noteworthy Expressions, the elegant invitation suite, stylish acrylic seating chart and menus were the perfect accents to impress guests.

THE DESSERT C’est La Vie Cakes made a simple, traditional cake for the shoot but with a little twist. Adding a watercolor design with pieces of greenery made the cake stand out. It brought together the organic elements of the vineyard and the modern style of the shoot. Kelsey adds, “Then, we also had an assortment of Italian desserts, wines and crudites platter.” This was truly an assortment of delicious, Instagram-worthy treats!
