FEATURED WEDDING

November 12, 2016 MISHAWAKA, INDIANA PHOTOGRAPHED BY REBEKAH ALBAUGH PHOTOGRAPHY

TIFFANY ROGERS-RANDOLPH & LEVY RANDOLPH What‘s sweeter than a friendship that began outside the Rose Bowl game? Coming full circle to one epic engagement that would take place right where it all started! With Tiffany hailing from Michigan and Levy from California, the two former national officers and facilitators with the National FFA Organization found themselves planning a large Indiana wedding while living in Florida. With friends and family scattered throughout the country, they would later have over twenty-nine states represented at their nuptials. #FromRoseBowlToRandolphs, this couple found their perfect forever with each other.

as sweet as roses

AN ENCHANTING RIVERSIDE WEDDING

THE PROPOSAL A little visit to California turned into one very special day for Tiffany and Levy. Though it was months in the making, Levy pulled off one memorable and special proposal for Tiffany. “As I was getting ready for the day, Levy told me he was going to grab a couple things out of the car. Then the doorbell rang. I opened it to find my sister and one of my childhood friends from Michigan, followed by a film crew. They handed me a card that said there was a day full of surprises ahead and it would conclude with Levy asking me a ‘big question,’” Tiffany recalls. “After a day full of loved ones, limo rides, mimosas, nail appointments and a shopping spree, the next time I saw Levy was after my dad had walked me onto the field of the Rose Bowl stadium.”

THE DRESS Like they say, when you finally find the one, you just know! For Tiffany, it may have taken awhile, but she stopped at nothing to get it. “My mom, sister and I had spent about two weeks visiting every bridal salon we could find in Michigan and Indiana. I probably tried on 80 to 90 dresses,” Tiffany recalls. After turning to Pinterest, her beloved “Catherine” gown from Lovely Bride’s The Lovely One collection stopped her in her tracks. “I had to dig through layers of links to even find out the dress designer and model, but eventually I was able to track down the only one left in the country,” she says.

THE PLANNING Planning an out-of-state wedding is no doubt challenging. However, thanks to a ton of online research, several trips home and local friends and family, the couple pulled off their vision beautifully. Another helpful resource for this bride was WeddingDay! Tiffany says, “I found WeddingDay to be very helpful in finding local vendors by seeing examples of their work."

12

WEDDINGDAY

Three of the couple’s key vendors also fell perfectly into place. Tiffany explains, “Our wedding videographer, Candlelight Films, was the same team that filmed our engagement. Levy had surprised me with having them film our proposal. I was able to fly them to Indiana and surprise Levy with them filming our wedding. I stumbled upon our photographer’s website online and fell in love with Rebekah Albaugh’s work. A friend of the family owns our florist, The Flower Cart. The rest of our vendors were found through online searches."

THE VENUE For this couple, size was the biggest factor in deciding their venue, as they had to accommodate 300 guests. Their venue of choice was the Riverside Terrace, located in Mishawaka, Indiana. A cozy fireplace, patio (perfect for beer pong!), vendor flexibility and a scenic location along the St. Joseph River were just some of the attractive draws this fantastic venue had to offer.

WHAT WE

THE DÉCOR

This couple continued the theme of thoughtful, heartfelt planning that began with their engagement, far into their nuptials as well. They surprised each other by writing their own personal vows, kept until the very end. “They were full of fond memories, laughter, tears of joy, love, and our hopes and promises for our future,” Tiffany says. “They just fit our relationship so perfectly.”

Not happy with your color scheme? Don’t be afraid to change it! Tiffany did just that before she settled on her vibrant, berry-toned hues. “Throughout the wedding planning process, we went through so many variations of a color scheme,” she says. She finally landed on a theme six months prior to the wedding. Tiffany took charge of several D.I.Y. projects herself and the results were impressive. She designed all the paper materials for the wedding, including the invites and programs, table numbers and signage— and everything in between! She also designed their wedding website, while Levy constructed the personalized beer pong tables for the reception. 14

FOREVER INCREDIBLE PHOTOGRAPHY

The Chicago Cubs. Just uttering their name brings so much joy to the hearts of millions of loyal fans who rooted for them to finally make their long-awaited dream come true—winning a World Series Championship. In 2016, they officially ended their 108-year drought, as their name became synonymous with World Series Champs. This epic win, making headlines and history, was certainly an inspiration for many here in the Midwest— even in the wedding industry! As a loyal Cubs fan herself, Carla Stehman of Forever Incredible Photography envisioned a World Series Champion Chicago Cubs Styled Elopement. Wanting to showcase her “Cubbie love,” she gathered a team of other talented Chicago-area vendors she knew would be more than happy to support their winning team. The result? A fun, yet elegant wedding that truly hits a homerun. Filled with tons of Chicago pride and Cubbie blue, the creative mix of color and nods to the beloved team is nothing short of impressive. From the one-of-a-kind Victoria Sdoukos Couture gown and charming jewelry to the inviting Your Happily Ever paper suite and bright, Sugar Fixe macarons, the talented team brought the love of the ballgame— and the amazing spirit of Cubs fans—to this #OnceInACentury elopementinspired style shoot.

it’s a girl thing HOW TO USE GROUP EXERCISE TO MEET YOUR #SQUATGOALS & #SQUADGOALS

w

hen you’re busy taking care of the countless things that will make your big day come together flawlessly, you hardly have time to think about your triceps or thighs. In fact, you’re probably dreaming, researching, scheduling, planning and pinning your way to creating the best wedding ever as we speak, but that leaves one pretty important thing out, and that’s you, lovely! While all the other things do matter and have their place in the world of wedding planning, how you are feeling and taking care of you is priceless. We mean, how else are you going to keep all that pre-wedding energy up and, ultimately, look and feel your best when the big day arrives? Whether your wedding day is in a year, a few months or a few weeks, it’s never too late to take a serious look at your weekly exercise regimen, while adding in some stress-busting fun! If you’re already on the right track, congrats and get it, girl! But if you’re looking for some serious (and fun) exercise inspo, we’ve got you covered right here. Grab some H2O and your maids of honor because there are many different options for putting those #squatgoals to action, all while having a blast and bonding with your #girlsquad! Because what’s better than a good old endorphin-pumping exercise session? Toning up and slimming down with some of your besties by your side, of course!

30

WEDDINGDAY

group yoga

Nothing brings Zen to your life like yoga. From Bikram to Vinyasa to Power Sculpt, there are many types of yoga sure to bring a smile (and glow) to your face. In addition to leaving your worries at the door for an hour, you will have the opportunity to bond with your girls in a peaceful setting and fully embrace your overall health and wellness. After breathing deeply and strengthening and lengthening your muscles (and possibly muscles you didn’t know you had!), you will experience a total overhaul of your mind, body and spirit.

pure barre

Want to burn extra calories and create lean muscle? If your answer is “yes, please!”, sign yourself and your girls up for this muscleelongating, low-impact class. Utilizing the ballet barre and small isometric movements, this technique can bring tone to the areas women tend to need a little extra help in the most: arms, abdominals, glutes, hips and thighs. Enjoy some upbeat music, inspiring instructors and zero pressure to be at a certain level. Bonus: Some studios even offer private sessions for brides and their friends!

dance classes

If flirty fun sounds like a better fit for you and your group, you can have some crazy memorable times and laughs at a pole fitness class, belly dance class or lap dancing class. Designed for those who love something truly girly and out-of-the-box where you can enjoy a unique experience while getting a quality workout (seriously, you may be unable to get off the floor the next day), these places are a perfect match for a bride and her bridal party.

nature hikes or bikes

A pretty powerful remedy to combating any type of stress is getting out in nature and breathing in some fresh air. Add some dear friends to the mix and a walk becomes a joyous time spent enjoying each other’s company and the beautiful outdoors. You can make it as leisurely or challenging as your heart desires. Another idea? Add bikes to the mix! Many cities have different bike routes or state parks that offer scenic treks as well.

pilates

Kind to your joints and killer for your core, Pilates can do wonders for your strength, focus and flexibility. Three magical words alone make this type of exercise enticing for any bride-to-be: long, lean and toned. Research the different studios in your city and see what they have to offer. They might host a bridal bootcamp or special for you and your girls.

spin classes

These classes can be total motivators and calorie-kickers. Not to mention, fun! Led by an instructor sure to guide you and your girls to a music-pumped ride, you can really challenge yourself—and each other! And we know you would rather have your BFF by your side to keep you motivated, instead of a sweaty stranger! Be prepared to leave this class super-sweaty but super-euphoric!

kickboxing

Keep in mind ladies, martial arts-inspired exercise classes aren’t just for the guys! This high-energy, full-body workout might be just the thing you need to get your blood pumping, while getting a little stress relief. There’s no doubt this interactive workout could be a blast for you and your girl squad, too and—bonus—you’ll be burning fat, enhancing muscle and increasing endurance all at once! Another plus? You might walk away with some moves you could use in a selfdefense situation, too. Have a ton of fun with this type of class (and don’t blame us for those sore quads or calves!).

5k, 10k & beyond

Finding out which races are taking place in your local city is just a quick Internet search away. One idea to consider is turning a scheduled walk or run activity into a weekend trip by signing up for one in a nearby city or—if any of your bridesmaids live in another state entirely—in their neck of the woods. It’s a great way to have a weekend getaway with your squad, get in some quality girl time and have some muscletoning fun! The actual types of races available these days run the gamut. From charity walks, 5K runs, mini-marathons, and marathons to triathlons and specialty challenge events (think Mud Run, City Challenges and Rugged Maniac runs), the options are limitless. Not to mention, you’ll get some pretty great photos to ‘gram about!

While this is by no means an all-encompassing list, it’s a great place to start. It’s important to remember that it is possible to have a gorgeous wedding and bod! Like everything, you simply need to carve out the time. Seek some extra support and motivation from the best motivational coaches on the planet—your girlfriends—and you’ll be photo-ready and feeling great in no time.

PLANNING TOOL

THE EASIEST GUIDE TO changing your last name

AFTER THE WEDDING

Y

our newlywed bliss can quickly come to an end when it comes time to endure the dreaded task of changing your last name. The legal process can often take the romance out of taking your significant other’s last name. If you get yourself organized with the proper documents, the process can be less strenuous, allowing you to continue to revel in your newlywed happiness.

1. GET THE ORIGINAL

3. APPLY FOR A NEW LICENSE

5. UPDATE YOUR BANK

Getting a new license from the local Bureau of Motor Vehicles office requires a few documents, namely your old license, the original marriage license and your new Social Security card. Remember to change your address if you have moved after the wedding.

The easiest way to do this is to visit your local branch in person. Take your new license, your marriage license and your new Social Security card, and ask for your name to be changed on your account. Request new checks, debit cards and credit cards with your new name.

2. REQUEST A NEW SOCIAL

4. CHANGE YOUR LAST NAME

6. UPDATE YOUR LAST NAME

If you visit the Social Security Administration’s website, you can find an application for a change of name here. This is a free service. Print the application, fill it out, and include any required documents. You can either take your application to a nearby Social Security office or mail it in. You should receive your new card with your new last name in approximately 10 days.

When your new Social Security card comes in the mail, meet with your HR manager at work to switch your name over. This includes payroll, 401k, your insurance benefits, stocks etc.

MARRIAGE LICENSE FROM THE CLERK’S OFFICE The original license should come from the clerk’s office where your license was filed. One should automatically be sent to you a couple weeks after the wedding. The original document should have a raised seal and your new last name. Also, it’s a good idea to request copies.

Something Old, Something New WHY WE LOVE MANSIONS, ESTATES & HISTORIC VENUES

HENDERSON CASTLE Meg Van Kampen Studios 44 WEDDINGDAY

When it comes to wedding venues, choosing a place that’s the right fit for your nuptials can certainly be challenging. After all, you want something that meshes with your style, budget and what you envision overall. Add to that the fact that there are so many different types of venues out there and you have a real weddingcake flavored pickle on your hands. Take note that one niche of venues that has always stood out are those that have been around for a long, long time or offer a unique, one-of-kind space. And when it comes to seeing why these locales will surely satisfy your taste for something unique, timeless or just plain stunning, it usually takes less than a glance.

The character or stories behind their walls serves as a reminder of days gone by or grand affairs... If you haven’t guessed it yet, historic estates and mansions are these very venues—the rich spaces we love to love! They had us at their grand staircases, ivy-cloaked stone, alluring chandeliers, wrap around porches, and delicate fountains. The character or stories behind their walls serves as a reminder of days gone by or grand affairs, and we can’t help but smile thinking of the weddings that have graced their floral-covered gazebos, candlelit parlors or marble floors. Read on for more of what makes these stunning locations a perfect pick for dream weddings, large or small, and why they take our breath away.

WEDDINGDAY 45

Historical buildings, mansions and estates rely on dedicated and skilled staff members to ensure these beautiful landmarks continue to do what they seem to do best—accommodate guests and host special events. Whether it’s a staff member, an in-house planning professional or an entire event design team, you will have all the assurance and resources you need in executing your dream wedding. For venues where outside vendors are permitted, venue staff will be happy to make any needed recommendations while being available throughout all stages of the planning process.

Historic Charm The allure of a gorgeous old home or building is something that just can’t be duplicated. It is an authentic feeling that will give your wedding a very unique vibe and wow factor. Whether it’s the stunning details, antique furnishings, elegant ballrooms or enchanting grounds that make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time, the charm and beauty of an aged space lends itself to a quite lovely experience for a couple and their guests.

Unmatched Service When it comes to high-quality fare and service, these venues are often as fancy as their buildings and grounds. Equipped with expert wait staff and chefs, some venues even tout use of their own fresh, garden-grown ingredients. Gourmet cuisine prepared on-site is just another way this category of venues will ensure your day is as tasty as it is memorable.

Feel Like Royalty

All in the Atmosphere

If there’s one time in your life you should feel pampered and on a pedestal, it’s your wedding day. With historic estates and mansions, you are assured the utmost privacy for you and your guests and, in some cases, you are offered an exclusive experience and enticing packages—fit for a prince and princess, of course! From complimentary bride and groom spa treatments to free breakfast for your guests, these venues want you to feel as special as the place you are surrounded by!

If you look at old estates, it’s evident the original inhabitants were in the business of entertaining. These homes, after all, were often built in a time when modern conveniences didn’t exist and favorite pastimes included dinners, social gatherings and celebrations. When you book an event in one of these venues, the same sense of opulence and celebration seeps from all the fine details, layout and overall atmosphere. What better place to host a special event than in a place designed to welcome and host family and friends?

MANSIONS, ESTATES & HISTORIC VENUES // Venues We Love

Sprawling Gardens & Manicured Lawns There’s nothing better than a lush, green backdrop filled with flowers and fountains. With historic estates and mansions, their charm and elegance is typically carried through to the outdoors as well, giving a bride and groom an extended space to entertain in, while building on the lovely ambiance the space already exudes. Consider that an outdoor space so pretty also needs less decor as Mother Nature has already equipped it with everything it needs to shine.

TIPPECANOE PLACE Rebekah Albaugh Photography

Bed & Breakfast Option For buildings and estates in which room rentals are an option, having the opportunity to stay on-site and for an extended period is certainly an added bonus. Not only is this convenient for you and any of your guests, you can immerse yourself in the luxury and special nature of the entire experience. Love that gorgeous old veranda and private pool? Imagine enjoying a quiet cup of morning coffee poolside with your new husband or wife!

We all know them. Those stunning weddings that, with so much as a glance, have the power to take your breath away. Sarah and Michael McAuliffe's wedding is certainly one of those. Rhiannon of Rhiannon Bosse Celebrations, the talented designer and planner behind these nuptials, was part of a larger team of talented, local vendors that brought the couple’s dreamy vision to fruition—a kind, gracious pair that, as Rhiannon fondly remembers, exuded as much radiance as their big day. “While Sarah and Michael shared their dreams with me, they also made sure to share their gratitude and excitement in a way I’ll always remember,” Rhiannon says.

THE VENUE Venues truly are key to a wedding’s design but, in some cases, they are a showstopper. In this case, the sprawling grounds and picturesque vineyard, sweet, rustic barn and on-cue sunset were jaw-dropping. And the shining gem? Hidden Vineyard Wedding Barn’s signature Catalpa Tree. As if cradling the intimate nuptials below in its adorned, outstretched arms, it was the perfect natural focal point for a stunning, outdoor ceremony.

THE LOOK Sarah looked to The Gown Shop, located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, for her romantic dress. Featuring an intricate, lace bodice with beaded detail, embellished belt and a delicate, champagne-colored lace panel, its flowing tulle skirt allowed for elegant movement and flow. The bride’s classic, yet airy look provided just the right amount of polish and whimsy—a perfect blend for the rustic setting. Hanna Wagner Designs completed the bride’s look with soft hair and feminine makeup.

ONE FINE DAY // Featured Wedding

THE DÉCOR Elegantly dressed Fancy Fray farm tables were the perfect rustic backdrop for the light and airy tablescape designs. Layered with neutral La Tavola linens, gold-rimmed china and flatware, greenery and delicate vases of florals, the place settings welcomed guests with a glowing softness. Varying textures also brought depth and interest to the overall design.

THE FLORAL Sarah’s single wish was for her Labor Day weekend wedding to feel like a floral fairytale— and fairytale it was! Her wish was granted using hundreds upon hundreds of garden roses, sweet peas, snowberry and Michigan-grown dahlias. Rhiannon ensured she delivered a soft and romantic atmosphere using a palette rich in texture and infused with pinks and purples. The property’s breathtaking Northern Catalpa Tree was a true labor of love as it took the team six hours to complete the floral feature on its branch.

A UNIQUE, SECOND WEDDING BLENDS FANCY WITH FUN

indy Wojtysiak and her husband, Mike, likely faced a question that many couples planning their nuptials face—what is the best way to make their union unique and special to them? For this pair, the answer was simple. “I wanted the day to be a fun party for all to enjoy, including myself,” says Cindy. Keeping this goal in mind, they designed a truly fun, out-of-the box affair complete with elements that aligned with their non-traditional tastes. South Bend’s The Brick was the ideal venue choice for both the ceremony and location. The beautifully renovated warehouse offered a clean, elegant space with tons of blank slate appeal. “We picked The Brick because its unique look fit perfectly with our overall wedding theme,” says Cindy. “The colors were metallic, which worked well with The Brick’s clear chairs and exposed lighting.” Her bridesmaids, or handmaidens, in fact, wore bronze silver and gold. “Their zodiac signs dictated what color they would be,” explains Cindy. “Tina is an Aries (fire sign, bronze), Jackie a Pisces (water sign, silver) and Kim a Taurus (earth sign, gold).” The ladies wore dresses by Sue Wong—one of the bride’s favorite designers—while the men wore tuxes from Men’s Wearhouse in Mishawaka.

Yet another element unique to the overall theme was Cindy’s cloak. “The Cloaking is something Mike and I saw on our favorite TV series, Game of Thrones,” Cindy says. “It’s said that if a groom places his cloak around the bride, it’s a symbol for his protection around her.” The theme song from the couple’s beloved series also served as the bridal processional music. The ceremony was personalized as well, featuring a candle lighting and a special handfasting or binding of their hands—an ancient tradition for some cultures. “I understood the handfasting ceremony to be an old Celtic tradition that has a certain elegance to it,” Cindy says. Reverend Sandy G. Vanik of Unity Church of Peace in South Bend served as the officiant. Other evening highlights included catered appetizers from Ruth's Chris and a live band from Chicago—Final Say. Cindy says, “They played locally once and we fell in love with them and invited them to play at the wedding. They were awesome and we still get comments about them from the guests that attended.” The wedding cake was from West End Bakery in Mishawaka—a childhood favorite of the groom’s. When describing her day, Cindy simply echoes what every bride dreams of, “It was everything I could have hoped for.”

THE VISION There are truly many different takes on nautical themed weddings these days. From beachy and relaxed to seaside soirees, the sky (or the ocean) is the limit! Here in the Midwest, oceans might be lacking but we have the magnificent Great Lakes in our backyard, and we are happy we do! The beautiful lakeside communities offer some fantastic options for absolutely stunning nuptials. For us, we dreamt of something beach-inspired yet glowingly elegant. The inspirational elements that served to anchor our theme? Hues of blues, watercolor, beachy leaves, a nautical feel and a bit of whimsy. Melissa Mathis of Forever and A Day Events and Design was our talented go-to planner and designer for our light and airy vision. Like the allure of a beachside breeze, we wanted the look to be beautiful yet inviting and looked to the Inn at Harbor Shores to house our perfectly elegant and nautical nuptials.

CARRIE HOUSE PHOTOGRAPHY

THE VENUE “The Inn At Harbor Shores was a great blank slate for us to add our own design to,” says Melissa. “The outside backdrop was beautiful with the water! The walls were gray and white, so it really allowed the design details to pop!” Other airy elements included the space’s French doors and large, breezy balcony overlooking the harbor.

WEDDINGDAY 69

THE DÉCOR Key to the elegance and design of our shoot were the lovely rentals from The Rental Company, the beautiful, voluminous florals and all of the extra special touches—including the sweet, sea glass-inspired rock candy party favors and bright escort cards. “We wanted the beach theme and were in love with the dusty blue color,” says Melissa. “The turquoise and pink complemented the blue wonderfully.” A textured blue linen and white table runner added a whimsical touch to our tablescape, while pops of gold and romantic candles graced the place settings. What could be more romantic than a harpist playing seaside? Our couple danced their first dance to the lovely notes of Meg Rodgers.

THE FLORAL Tracy Park of Park Place Design used southern smilax, Monstera leaves, Phalaenopsis orchids, White Lilacs, garden roses, tulips, Clematis vine, White Anthuriums, and a mix of green foliage to create a bold, overstated design for the space. She says, “I love a bold statement—flowers you don’t always see in today’s trends. I feel the look was one that went with the feel of the venue, inside and out.”

THE LOOK Our model wore a stunning gown, shoes and jewelry from Ali Nicole Bridal. The gown’s full, yet sleek skirt added just the right amount of volume and movement, while the delicate, blue lace top added romance, color and visual interest. A loose and wavy, yet pulled back hairstyle, designed by Krystle Waivio Hair, aligned with the light and airy theme perfectly. True Beauty by Dana used brown and coral hues in the bride’s makeup, adding to the bride’s relaxed elegance and providing a beautiful contrast to the dusty blue color. A gorgeously bold floral crown completed the look. Our groom wore a handsome gray suit from Dunhill Tuxedos.

THE CAKE & DESSERTS The gold-inspired Froehlich’s cake was as beautiful as it was savory. Melissa says, “The cake artist did a beautiful job to create a whimsical brush stroke pattern!” Placed among the colorful escort cards on a vintage turquoise vignette, you can’t help but feel inspired looking at the gorgeous spread.

THE STATIONERY & SIGNAGE Jaime Lynne Creative met our vision for a gorgeous watercolor-inspired suite complete with beachy leaves. These elements were combined to create the gorgeous blue backdrop for the stationery, menus and signage. The turquoise envelopes were the final touch and tied the design to the blue hues seen throughout the wedding decor.
