Are you and your car ready for summer? Make sure your motor is ready...

Have you got everything you need?

Your car should be fully serviced and check it's in good shape. Your holiday is often the biggest challenge to you car, and when it's most likely to develop a problem.

Have you fully updated your satnav? Or do you have a road map in the glove compartment? Is your mobile phone fully charged, and do you have the number of your rescue and recovery company in its contact list?

Make sure you Check your engines oil and coolant levels, along with brake, clutch and power steering fluid levels. Also very important is to make sure your tyre pressures are correct - have you allowed for hot weather and higher loading? Your car's handbook will give you the figures. And don't forget your spare tyre. Is it in good condition and at the correct pressure?

Also Take a bottle of screen wash with you. You will want to keep your screen as clean as possible. You may also want to consider having a fire extinguisher in the car, just in case. And don't overload your car - be particularly careful with your roof rack. Heavy items can unbalance your car.

Give your windscreen a good clean. It'll soon get messy on most journeys. While you're doing that, take a good look at your windscreen wipers (and don't forget the rear wiper, if you have one). If they're at all suspect, replace them.

Don't forget you and your passengers, either. Pack some cold drinks and snacks to keep everyone happy.

Have a look at your lights - perhaps get someone else to make sure they're working as you operate them - and make sure they're clean and free from mud.

Let the journey begin! If you have allergy sufferers on-board, keep the windows closed and the air conditioning on. Take care you're not dazzled by bright sunshine. Wear sunglasses and use your car's visors when the sun is low in the sky. In the event of a thunderstorm, slow down because braking distances can double with water on the road. Also, make sure you keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front. If you have your family pets with you, never leave them in your vehicle, as heatstroke can prove fatal for dogs, and other animals can suffer badly. So take them with you, but make sure they don't spend too long in full sun. They will be happier and healthier in the shade. If this seems a long list of things to do, they really won't take a lot of time and effort. And they could be the difference between a safe, enjoyable summer and one that's memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Cambridge Weight Plan So the ‘New Year New Me’ resolutions are out of the window! We are a quarter of the way through the year and I’ve still not lost the weight I promised myself I'd get off in the new year. If like me, you have tried anything and everything to lose weight but failed miserably then why not give Cambridge Weight Plan a try? I’ve literally tried every diet going, from the egg diet to the 4/2 plan and nothing has worked for me. When I met a friend of mine recently I noticed she had dropped at least three dress sizes and she looked fantastic. I asked her how she had done it and she told me about Cambridge Weight Plan. I instantly looked online to find my local Consultant as I was amazed at how great my friend looked in such a short period of time.

I contacted my nearest Consultant Alison Norman and arranged to go and see her. Alison soon put me at ease as her friendly and easygoing approach made me forget about my insecurities and the worry of getting on the scales in front of anyone. We had a chat about my lifestyle and eating habits and what I'd ideally like to achieve. Alison then went onto tell me how the diet works - there are different plans to suit everyone's needs and weight losses. I told Alison about my hectic lifestyle. I work (mostly on the road) 12 or 13 hours a day and I also have 5 horses that I ride and tend to daily. I don't have access to a fridge, oven, hob or microwave in the daytime and I also eat really late. After getting weighed and measured Alison thought the Step 3 Plan would suit my lifestyle and give me the weight loss I was looking for. I have a holiday booked to Barbados in June and I want 1.5 stone off for then. Alison was confident that if I stick to the Plan that would be off in no time. Now as much as I'd love to believe this I’ve been a serial dieter for years and never really lost more than a pound here or there. Armed with the products I chose I went off to give Cambridge Weight Plan a try. Step 3 consists of two Cambridge Weight Plan products and a 400 calorie meal per day. You are told to drink at least 2.25 litres of water a day which can include sparkling water, tea and coffee, herbal or fruit tea and Cambridge Weight Plan water flavourings. You can also have 150 calories of fruit or an extra 150 calorie option at breakfast. Alison also added to not eat processed food as they carry a lot of hidden salt and sugars. There are lots of products to choose from - shakes in every flavour imaginable, chocolate bars and a selection of meals from spaghetti bolognese to currys and couscous. The shakes can be made up by you or you can buy them ready to drink. On my first day I had a Cambridge Weight Plan shake for breakfast. I never usually eat before 1pm so this a was great way to start the day. The shake was amazing and tasted like a regular drink rather than a diet one. This really filled me up. I made sure I drank plenty of water and later in the day I had one of the delicious Cambridge Weight Plan bars (really is this a diet?). I never felt hungry through the day as the bars and shakes are full of proteins that keeps you fuller for longer. For dinner I had a tasty stir fry and chicken. The next few days were great as this diet really fits in with my lifestyle. I felt so full of energy and my stomach was getting flatter by the day. The week flew by and I have to say that as a person that struggles with IBS daily I didn't have one outburst I’m also lactose intolerant and there was a great range of products available to me. I arrived to my first weigh in the following week full of dread and excitement (I had stuck to the plan but with other diets I find that I’m just not a big loser). Alison stood me on the scales and all I can say is ‘WOW’. I'd lost a total of 5lb on my first week*. I was over the moon. I chatted with Alison about my week and I had to admit this was really working for me. I have decided to stick with the Cambridge Weight Plan to lose the rest of my weight (I will have a bikini body by June!). Alison re-measured me and I'd also lost 5 inches off my body. I couldn't be happier. INGREDIENTS 8 slices bacon 1 (16-oz.) package frozen hash browns 8 large eggs 1/3 c. milk 4 tbsp. butter Kosher salt Freshly ground black pepper 4 large flour tortillas 1/2 c. shredded cheddar 1 ripe avocado, sliced Hot sauce, for serving DIRECTIONS 1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook bacon, working in batches if necessary, until crispy, about 8 minutes per batch. 2. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate and pour off half the fat. Cook hash browns according to package directions in bacon fat and transfer to a plate. 3. In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs and milk. Wipe out skillet, place over medium heat, and melt butter. When butter is just starting to foam, reduce heat to medium-low and add beaten eggs. Using a rubber spatula, stir every occasionally until soft curds form. Season with salt and pepper. 4. Assemble burritos: In the center of each tortilla, layer hash browns, scrambled eggs, cheese, two slices of bacon, and sliced avocado. Fold in the two sides and roll up tightly. Serve with hot sauce.
