Behold, My Servant

Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations.––Isaiah 42:1

God called prophets to be His voice to His people. -ey spoke the words God told them to speak, and in Ezekiel’s case especially, they acted out His message as He directed. When you read the major prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel), you’ll see the relationship between them and God. He directed; they obeyed. He spoke; they retold. He planned; they proclaimed the details. Part of what they proclaimed was that there was One who would come who would be a prophet, but He would be more than a prophet. -is One would be a priest, but He would be more than a priest. -is One would come with the unique identity of being God’s Son and with the unique mission as being the Messiah.

Read Luke 42:1–4. God described this One who was to come to Isaiah. -is One would be God’s servant, One speci.cally chosen by God, and One that cost God dearly. -is One would reveal God in everything He did, bringing justice to the world in His gentleness, care and healing in His compassion, and strength in His calmness. -is One would be unlike any servant the people had ever seen before.
