FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK BE inthe flow!

Dear Reader, This is a special issue for me. It’s the 11th year Life in the Overflow Magazine has been in the world! Our very first launch was our June/July 2010 issue. July couldn’t have been a more perfect month to celebrate our anniversary along with the 36th Annual Stellar Awards in Nashville, Tennessee. It was great to be outside on location providing media coverage after a long stint of COVID-19. Although it’s not over, I am expecting great things in the lives of God’s people. In this issue, we celebrate our anniversary with a special article Where Are They Now, where we take a look back at a few of our memorable cover features then and show you what they are doing in their lives now. Check out our YouTube channel for the video of that feature. We also share our interview with Kendal Richardson author, philanthropist, radio host, and song writer, The Voice of the People. Kendal shares a Call to Unity, his book Turning Pain into Praise and his mission in this world. Be sure to follow us on social media for more from Life in the Overflow Magazine and keep living your life poured out!

HOW TO PLAN TO LEAVE YOUR BUSINESS

By Shanica Bell

A

business plan is valuable, but just as important is an exit strategy. This is a matter for some real thought and planning before you begin on the first page of your business plan. You may be wondering why it is important to think about an exit strategy for a business you’re just launching. The short answer it that without a plan for an exit, your business decisions can get biased by your own interests, not those of your customers. This, in turn, will make it much harder for you to build and sustain a truly valuable business. An exit strategy is one that forecasts the flow of cash from the business at various future points and when it will no longer be needed. As a new entrepreneur you’re potentially not thinking about an exit strategy. I mean, it’s your business and you’re expecting it to flourish and possibly retire you, right? Yes, that is a great possibility. However, realistic thinking projects that there may be a point when you may consider exiting your very own business. Some people go into business with the thought of selling it on their mind, while others get to a point in their lives where the business no longer suits them. It’s one of those things that will become apparent only as you begin to do business. As you reach milestones in your life, business and as you grow as an individual, you may just want to transition into another industry or simply do something else – or not. Whatever happens in the future, a great exit strategy will have you more than prepared in those instances. 5 SMART EXIT STRATEGIES What happens when you’ve reached a point in your business endeavors where you’re just not happy or satisfied anymore as an entrepreneur? What happens when you desire to rebrand and take on another business adventure? As an entrepreneur what happens when you’re ready to call it quits and exit your business? Do you have an exit strategy in place? There are 5 smart exit strategies that you can consider and put into your exit strategy. The most common is Merger & Acquisition (M&A). This means margining with a similar company or being bought by a larger company. Bobbi Brown of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics started out with 10 lipstick colors as a freelance makeup artist and turned it into a billion-dollar business. She had built this prestigious cosmetics business and eventually sold it in 1995 along with her very own name to Estee Lauder. Why on earth would anyone want to take a prospering business built from the ground up and walk away from it allowing someone else to acquire it? Well in Bobbi Brown’s case, she wanted to spend more time with her husband and children. It was that simple. Continued on page 22

A CALL TO UNITY

INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR, PHILANTHROPIST, AND SONGWRITER KENDAL RICHARDSON AND LITO, EDITOR AT LARGE, SHANICA L. BELL LITOMAG: Last year you received a mandate for unity of God’s people through A Call to Prayer. Tell us about that.

KENDAL RICHARDSON: God has not been to happy with HIS Children. Sin, the lack of love and respect for HIM and each other and the non-humbleness of heart has caused HIM to become angry and as result, the body of Christ is out of order and so is the world. What really has him upset is the lack of faith and disobedience to HIS Word. So God has put 2 Chronicles 7:13-15 on my heart to stand on the foundation to the Call, the Clarion call of repentance. A Call to Prayer meeting was aimed at healing, repentance, and the unity of humanity by encouraging people to show love towards one another and more importantly for God to show Himself strong to this generation; what are you hoping that God does in this generation in the midst of diseases of pandemic proportion and racial tension; what is your prayer? I am hoping people will be saved and come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, that they will see the raw power of the Holy Spirit and that they experience the same miracle working God that has touched my life. My prayer is that every human being would find out who they are in God, fulfill their destiny and call on their life and that they miss nothing God has planned for their lives. LITOMAG: In your book “Turning Pain into Praise” you shared your life story about being adopted, abused, and having your innocence stolen at an early age; without giving too much of the book away – how did you deal with what you had experienced? KENDAL RICHARDSON: I am in a much better place in life because I had an encounter with God on September 9, 2002, the night before my 24th birthday. I was approached by two men, I never met before, who told me things about my life, that only God could have told them. At that point, I knew God was real and He wasn’t just my mothers Jesus she taught me about or what the preacher had been preaching while attending service. That day the word became real to me. I didn’t know who I was because I was born day one rejected. Because of molestation and rape and exposure to pornography at a young age, ventured in to homosexuality, molestation both as abused and as a abuser, porn, prostitution and contracting HIV/AIDS. That was my identity without Christ. Continued on next page

Interview Continued from previous page When I repented and asked for forgiveness God changed my story, changed my direction, changed my heart and mind towards him. I became a Minister, CEO, Radio Show Host, Award Winning Author, Humanitarian, Songwriter, and Screenwriter. LITOMAG: What words of encouragement would you share with someone that is or has gone through something similar to your story? KENDAL RICHARDSON: Without Faith its impossible to Please God but those coming to God must believe that HE IS and He is a rewarder to those who diligently seek HIM. So my encouragement would be to seek God for yourself, find out who HE IS and then you will know who you really are in the seeking. You haven’t really lived until you receive life from the giver of Life. Keep The Faith. God is able to deliver you out of anything, but YOU must be willing to let him change you. LITOMAG: What are some things that we can look for from you and The Voice of the People Ministries? KENDAL RICHARDSON: God is a mystery, I don’t know all what HE has for me to do until HE reveals it to me. As I mature as a believer, I just want to do things that He lays on my heart. I have a mandate for repentance. I will be writing more books and making a series of movies to address those issues I speak about in my books Unconditional Love and Turning Pain Into Praise. One of my aspirations is to become the Mayor of Dallas in 2023. I will go wherever HE sends me and say whatever HE wants me to say to whomever He wants me to say HIS Words to, my life is dedicated to serving God. Continued from page 10 She felt she had reached her growth potential. When presented with a sale price, she went for it and became an employee at a business she birthed. This freed up Bobbi’s time and after a few years with the company, she walked away from it. For Bobbi Brown Cosmetics this M&A was a very profitable one for her and didn’t stop her dreams for having her very own cosmetics line. After her non-compete time was up, she launched another cosmetics line, Jones Road Beauty. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Merger & Acquisition (M&A) Initial Public Offering Sell to an Individual Use it as a Cash Cow Liquidate & Walk Away

Initial Public Offering (IPO) was once a preferred method for entrepreneurs. Shares are offered and investors can participate in the offerings as well. Entrepreneurs can also plan to sell to an individual and cash out of the business allowing someone else to run and operate the business. This can also be done if you’ve reached a level financially where you can have someone operate the business without you selling it. The income will become a sort of cash cow extra stream in this case. The last exit strategy is to liquidate everything in the business and close the doors. QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF Be sure you have your exit plans in place by asking yourself a few questions. When will you exit your business? Thinking about the 5 smart exit strategies, what is your strategy? What is your transition plan? How will you communicate to your clients, employees, and vendors that you’re transitioning out of the company? Will you have any input regarding business during the transition? Is your business currently structured for a transition? Will your core values be upheld in the future? Lastly, you should ask yourself what will you do after your transition? It may be a daunting task to sit down and think about an exit strategy for your business, especially if you’re just launching or starting up. The most important thing to remember is to consider all possibilities now and plan for them because you never know where your business will take you. One day you could look up and be presented with an offer to sale your business for millions. 22 - LIVE YOUR LIFE STORY!
