THE P ROGRAM Rhode Island and Newport hospitals, the Gruben Charitable Foundation, and Salve Regina University are pleased to present this free behavioral health workshop. In this intermediate/advanced-level session, expert David Greenfield, PhD, MSCP, will explore issues associated with internet addiction and internet use disorder. He will discuss aspects of the internet and smartphone and how their unique characteristics promote mood-altering behaviors such as compulsive use and addictive patterns. Dr. Greenfield is founder and medical director of the Center for Internet and Technology Addiction and assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

Behavioral or allied health professionals including physicians, psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, addiction specialists, mental health counselors, EAPs, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, peer support providers, recovery coaches, sober living residence operators and staff, natural support networks, and schoolteachers and counselors.

L EARNING O BJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to: 1. Describe several etiological factors and potential co-morbidities that contribute to internet addiction and internet use disorder. 2. Recognize the neurobiological and reward patterns that appear to contribute to internet addiction and internet use disorder. 3. Utilize the information presented in helping to make an accurate diagnosis and assessment. This program is approved by the public school districts of Portsmouth, Middletown, and Newport, Rhode Island.

Parking - Attendees are authorized to park throughout the Salve Regina University campus. Parking is available along side streets and within student and faculty lots. Designated handicapped parking is available adjacent to the O’Hare Academic Building at the corner of Ochre Point Avenue and Shepard Avenue. Driving From the Newport Bridge: Take the first exit (Scenic Route). At the second light, bear right. At the seventh set of lights be in the left-hand lane and go straight up the hill (this is Memorial Boulevard). Coming up Memorial Boulevard, at the second set of lights, take a right onto Bellevue Avenue (there will be signs for Salve Regina University directing you down Bellevue Avenue). At the next set of lights, take a left onto Narragansett Avenue. At the second stop sign, take a right onto Ochre Point Avenue. The O’Hare Academic Building will be on the left-hand side, before the intersection with Shepard Avenue. The Breakers visitor lot will be on the right-hand side, after the intersection with Victoria Avenue. From Route 138 (South): Take Route 138A off Route. 138. It will be a left at a blinker just beyond a traffic light. Go by First Beach up the hill on Memorial Boulevard. Go past the beaches and up the hill. At the next major set of lights, there will be signs to take a left for Salve Regina University (onto Bellevue Ave.) At the next set of lights, take a left onto Narragansett Avenue. At the second stop sign, take a right onto Ochre Point Avenue. The O’Hare Academic Building will be on the left-hand side, before the intersection with Shepard Avenue.
