A Community That Continues to Go Above and Beyond

hen the going gets tough, the tough… will always appreciate the kindness and support of those around them. At Bradley Hospital, so much of that support has come in the form of delicious meals and snacks. During this unprecedented time, our staff—exhausted at times—continues to treat the children in our care through layers of PPE and while coping with dramatically increased levels of stress and anxiety. During the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we could not be more thankful to the many friends who have stepped up with edible rewards. Kelly and Bernie Lambrese of Bristol teamed up with neighbors and beloved local restaurants The Lobster Pot, Leo’s, Roberto’s, Le Central, and DeWolf Tavern to create “Feeding the Front Line.” Thanks, to a wildly successful GoFundMe project, they’ve fed hundreds of local health care workers, including 200+ exquisite seafood and pasta dinners for our own Bradley team. Recognizing it’s more than medical clinicians caring for patients with the coronavirus who need some TLC, community efforts to take care of children’s behavioral health staff also took off. Longtime Bradley friends and supporters, Marc Perlman and family—owners of Ocean State Job Lot and restaurants Mills Tavern and Red Stripe—ensured our teams were well-fed, not only with great meals, but also tasty treats and even a massage chair! Lunches from Agawam Hunt Club always hit the spot, and there were refreshing smoothies donated by Tropical Smoothie of Seekonk to staff in our partial programs.

Bradley Hospital president Henry Sachs, MD with Michele and Chris Levy

To satisfy the sweet tooth, Michele and Chris Levy of Narragansett sent the Moo-Mobile to Bradley to give everyone an ice cream cone. This, after Trish and Tim O’Neil previously surprised us with 250 bags of jelly beans – one for each person on our program teams! The kindness, however, didn’t stop with food. A sheriff ’s parade through the Bradley campus, complete with handing out colorful tulips from Wicked Tulips, brightened the day not just for staff, but for kids with autism who were able to go outside for the visit. And on a sunny Saturday, 100 Jeeps drove through with lights, horns, and signs of encouragement for all. Please know how much these gestures truly helped and how much better everyone at Bradley felt knowing so many are thinking of us. We realize the road ahead remains winding and unpredictable, but with a caring community so firmly in our corner, we know there’s nothing we can’t get through—together.
