SUPPORT GROUP NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 2017 MONTHLY ANNOUNCEMENTS • • • •

Quarterly CBS Support Group surveys will be distributed throughout 2017 at the first Monday morning and fourth Tuesday evening support group meetings. We appreciate your participation in these short surveys as we help you reach & exceed your weight & wellness goals! Support Group Cancellation: Due to the President’s Day holiday, there will be no support group meeting on Monday February 20th at the West River Street, Providence location. Please see the back on this newsletter for further details. Starting in 2017, the Men’s Support Group will meet once each quarter (total 4 visits per calendar year). The meeting schedule for 2017 will be Tuesdays February 7th , May 2nd , August 1st & November 7th . The hour-long meetings will still start at 6:00 pm and will be located in the Hurvitz 2 conference room (1st floor of The Miriam Hospital). All email notices to and from the Center for Bariatric Surgery will be through the new email address CBStmh@lifespan.org. If you currently do not receive the monthly email notices, please email your request to be placed on our monthly email updates.

FEATURED RECIPE OF THE MONTH Blueberry + Hemp Green Smoothie Author: Lindsey Bomgren at www.nourishmovelove.com This refreshing smoothie is completely plant-based & features alkalizing & inflammation fighting ingredients. If also features the super food hemp seeds. Hemp seeds provide a good source of iron, an excellent source of magnesium & zinc and provide nearly 12 grams of protein (per 3 Tbsp. serving). Hemp seeds are easy to incorporate into your diet and make for a great plant-based protein alternative. Serves: 1 Ingredients/Materials Needed • High speed blender • ¼ cup blueberries (Tip: Try Wyman’s frozen wild blueberries!) • ½ cup spinach • ½ cup kale or 1 large kale leaf, de-stemmed & chopped • 6-8 walnuts • ½ golden pear • 1 tsp hulled (shelled) hemp seeds  1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk  optional: 1 inch chunk fresh ginger (peeled) Instructions 1) Blend all ingredients together in a high speed blender until smooth. You can also add a couple ice cubes as desired. Feel free to sprinkle some additional hemp seeds on top before serving.
