New Updates to Obesity & Cancer Risk
SOCIAL MEDIA SCENE
The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention are reporting on most recent data from 2014 identifying that 13 types of cancers linked with overweight and obesity made up 40% of all cancers diagnosed in the United States. The CDC also reports that the rates of obesity-related cancers had increased by 7% between 20052014. Despite the rise is cancer, many people are still unaware that overweight and obesity are related to cancers such as meningioma, multiple myeloma, adenocarcinoma of the esophagus, and cancers of the thyroid, postmenopausal breast, gallbladder, stomach, liver, pancreas, kidney, ovaries, uterus, colon and rectum (colorectal). These findings should continue to remind us that dietary choices and overall health play a significant role in arming the body’s defenses against disease states, including cancer.
