Up for the fight Mount Gambier identity shines a spotlight on prostate cancer “They know so much. They’re so brilliant. If they lead you to water so you might as well have a drink.” That is the thoughts of Kevin Douglas (KD) when it comes to the raft of medical professionals that have walked him through his battle with prostate cancer. Known for his community spirit, ability to hold a crowd and being a straight shooter, KD, as most of Mount Gambier knows the
unflappable former teacher and popular emcee, was thrown a curve ball in 2018 – diagnosed with prostate cancer. Notoriously independent and self-sufficient, and definitely not used to handing over his own fate to others, KD soon realised the best thing he could do in is battle with cancer was to heed the advice of experts. Keeping the tradition alive The Mount Gambier branch of the Embroiderers Guild of South Australia is a small but passionate group and they would love to pass on this time honoured tradition to a new generation. They are always on the lookout for new members and meet not only the first and third Monday of every month at the Mount Gambier Showgrounds in the
function room, there is also an evening group, which attracts younger members who work, on the second Wednesday of every month. A group of the current members share why this time honoured craft means so much to them and why you, too, should give it a go. See inside for full story
