Seaside festival sidelined Port MacDonnell food & wine event shelved for second consecutive year Due to a surge in local COVID-19 cases, the 2022 Bay Escape festival will be cancelled for the second consecutive year. Event coordinator Ryan Donovan said the organising committee was very disappointed that they would not be able to proceed with the festival. “With rising COVID-19 case numbers in our community, and

the changing landscape of restrictions associated with the running of events, we have had no choice but to cancel,” Mr Donovan said. In 2019, the Bay Escape was launched as a re-brand of the popular Bayside Fesitval, taking on community feedback and being reborn as a food and wine festival with strong coastal themes,

building on that success in 2020. “It was an overwhelming success,” Mr Donovan said. “We have been frustrated that we have not been able to leverage the success of our 2019 event and keep the momentum going in this climate however, we only want to run an event when we can keep out participants and community safe.”

The Bay Escape is one of the Limestone Coast’s longest running festivals, held every year at Port MacDonnell. WIPE OUT: Port MacDonnell football star Ben McGregor at the 2020 event. The 2022 festival has now been cancelled. See inside for full story
