Aussie heroes on tour Jazz music Australian of the Year icons join the recipients set to visit Limestone Coast 2022 program SEE INSIDE
Every year, people from all walks of life are honoured as part of the Australian of the Year awards scheme. State winners are selected and then they all vie for the national honour in their category with the sitting Prime Minister announcing those at a January 25 ceremony. The many and varied deeds of these inspiring Australians are whittled down to a short video package, or a few paragraphs in a newspaper but rarely do we get to delve deeper into what makes these inspiring people with inspiring stories to tell, tick. Limestone Coast residents now have that opportunity – a rare chance to hear from previous
honourees in a series of free public events in the region this month with sessions on May 18, 19 and 20. This unique opportunity has been made possible thanks to presenting partner MGA Insurance, supporting partners Barry Maney Group, Essity Medical Solutions, Tenison Woods College and the University of South Australia Mount Gambier Campus, accommodation partner The Commodore and media partner ABC Southeast SA, as well as the Naracoorte Lucindale Council, District Council of Grant and the City of Mount Gambier. The strategic funding partners of the State Government, National Australia Day Council and the City of Adelaide are also critical
in making sure these awards and events are able to be delivered. Bernie Shakeshaft (above); Professor Helen Marshall; Mark Le Messurier; Dr Trudy Lin & Monique Bareham are the five recipients headed to the Limestone Coast with six sessions in Naracoorte and Mount Gambier across the three day visit. The five visiting honourees cover such areas as working with youth at risk; a lymphoedema lobbyist; special needs dentistry; vaccination research and working with young people in the mental health space.
