Across southwestern Ontario, the housing market is not cooling off, and this spring it promises to be hotter than ever. Local builders are working to meet the growing demand for new homes. Whether buyers are looking for a luxurious custom home or a low-maintenance condominium, there are several options from which to choose. Our model home tour takes you to London, Ilderton and Kilworth, then along the shores of two of our neighbouring lakeside communities: Port Stanley and Grand Bend. 

Domus Developments Port Stanley

NEW CONDO ENCLAVE COMES TO LANDINGS

Landings Port Stanley is located on the top of the hill on East Street south of Dexter Line. Construction will begin this spring on Phase 2 of the development of 52 attached condominiums.

The two-bedroom homes will be themed with deep and contrasting colour choices, as well as varied material choices. This will tie them into the lakeside character of the village.

Vaulted ceilings over the openconcept kitchens and great rooms, along with extra-high nine-foot ceilings throughout, afford a feeling of space and grandeur, says interior designer Pat Kadlecik. Large rear windows with transoms fill the space with abundant light.

Home interiors include engineered hardwood floors and ceramic tile in kitchens and bathrooms. Quartz counters and undermount sinks are standard. Ensuite bathrooms feature custom glass showers, which are normally an upgrade.

Kadlecik says buyers can choose from a selection of colours to pair with their choice of black or nickel lighting packages. They can also customize details. For instance, they can incorporate crown moulding or kitchen pantry cabinets.

Basement levels are ready for upgraded finishing with rough ins for bathrooms and full-size windows.

All units have covered front porches and rear wood decks. End units have two-car garages.

Landings is nestled in a natural setting in the Lake Erie village that has long been a drawing card for boaters and sun seekers. 

Domus Developments Bellevue North

SUITES DESIGNED WITH LUXURY IN MIND

NEIGHBOURHOODS MIX URBAN AND RURAL LIVING

Combining the best of city and country living, Westhaven homes is currently building in two neighbourhoods.

Victoria on the River, a condominium community in southeast London, is set along the Thames River, surrounded by woods, rolling hills and miles of nature trails.

John Vranic continues to offer homes in Sifton Properties’ Clear Skies development in Ilderton, as it moves into the second phase. He says this location is ideal for growing families or retirees. It is less expensive than London but with easy access to the city at just seven minutes north. It also offers a variety of local businesses, services, and recreational opportunities.

Oke Woodsmith

BUILDING TIMELESS ELEGANCE

A new, mid-century modern craftsman model home, now under construction in Grand Bend, is the Oke Woodsmith Building Systems’ latest showcase for its custom construction expertise.

“We specialize in building timeless homes that never seem to date themselves,” says company president Randall Oke. He characterizes that style as featuring wide, low layouts, gabled roofs, open floor plans, wood framing and front porches with support columns and exposed rafters.

The model employs concrete construction, including ICF (insulated concrete form) foundations and heated concrete floors. It also features top-of-the-line finishes and a lower-level walk-out. “As always, we want to keep the home casual – when you enter you feel comfortable keeping your shoes on – but, at the same time, distinctively elegant,” Oke says.

The model home’s lot backs onto the Old Ausable riverbed with trees in the natural protected area providing additional privacy. “The outdoor living spaces create a personal getaway, a perfect solitude in the unusual world that we live in now,” Oke says.

The model home is located just outside the second entrance to Grand Bend’s Southcott Pines subdivision, off Highway 21, and fronts onto Lakeview Avenue just east of the river and community entrance. Oke encourages people to visit and follow the construction process. 
