here has never been a better time for
Tputting your best face – or body – forward. Over the past decade esthetic treatment options have experienced a boom and in the last few years their popularity has soared, according to Dr. Arjang Yazdani, plastic surgeon and founder of Yazdani Aesthetics in London. He attributes this to a combination of improved techniques and treatments with greater awareness of these options thanks to social media. Some are inspired when they witness friends and family experience the benefits.
“It’s not a foreign concept anymore,” Yazdani says. “When I started my practice 14 years ago esthetics was still relatively new to most patients, not something many people had a really good understanding about. Today, patients come in well informed. They’ve read so much; they’ve seen so much. They’ve researched, and they know about the treatments. And they’ve got it right.”
The demand in the past couple of years has been further driven by people, more than ever, seeing themselves in video conferences, he says. “We see every detail in our faces and we’re our own harshest critics; we see every little flaw we want to have addressed.”
With advances in techniques and devices in recent years, the industry is able to address those desires. “What we’ve seen in the past three to five years is new devices coming out and technologies that are far superior to previous years. These have given us options that weren’t available in the past,” says Yazdani.
One example is the ability to combine complementary treatments that work together to provide greater benefits. “Every treatment does something a little bit different, so when you combine them, you get better results without having to overdo any one of them.”
This goes a long way to avoiding what he calls the “overdone look,” something that is a major concern for many patients. “No one wants to look in a way that others will realize they’ve had esthetic treatments,” he says. “So, subtlety is the key to a natural appearance.”
He cites the examples of Botox and fillers, which used to be among the most common aesthetic treatments. Yazdani says they are still effective treatments but are often now combined with other techniques to both fill and lift tissue. This combination can improve tissue and skill quality, providing results that are more subtle and natural.
These esthetic advances have also blurred the lines between non-surgical and surgical options. A decade ago, Yazdani says, non-surgical treatments were often viewed as options to help patients until they were ready for surgical treatment. But, today, those options can yield excellent results and eliminate the need for surgery.
These trends, he says, have resulted in more patients, who range from 30 to 80-plus, seeking consultations at his clinic.
