Moray Blue Light
Emergency heroes will be honoured at the fourth Moray Blue Light Festival on Saturday, 22nd June at UHI Moray. The valuable role played by the police, fire, RAF, coastguard services and many more will be highlighted during the festival from 12pm – 3pm at the Alexander Graham Bell Centre, UHI Moray in Elgin.
‘Celebrating the services, educating the public’ is the theme of the afternoon. “The Blue Light Festival gives the public the opportunity to meet the services and understand the hard work they put in day in day out to keep us all safe.” said Kirsty Fraser, Events Co-Ordinator for UHI Moray.
As well as the well-known 999 services, in attendance will be North East Rider Volunteers, 2622 Squadron from RAF Lossiemouth, Scottish

Charity Air Ambulance, Cadets and local organisations who offer help and support such as Moray Wellbeing Hub, Moray Co-Responders, Car Seat Safety Moray and many more. Basic CPR will be taught by Save A Life Scotland throughout the event.
There will be a dedicated area for children’s inflatables and rides, facepainting, some child friendly vendors and a huge array of food stands. Fika Child and Family Centre will be running sessions during the day and have their inflatables.
“Previous events have been successful and enjoyable for both the general public and our exhibitors; the children love ringing the sirens and getting to go into the actual vehicles of their
real-life heroes.” Said Kirsty. “The event is free to the general public to attend and is a great family day out whilst also celebrating and highlighting the importance of our services.”

Speyfest’s packed programme set to strike a chord with music fans
Apacked programme of engaging workshops and bustling events has been revealed for Speyfest 2024, along with the lineup for the festival’s second stage, now known as the Duncans of Fochabers Stage.
The highly anticipated annual festival brings the best in Celtic and traditional Scottish music to Moray every summer when the iconic tented village takes over the local playing fields and is set to return once again from 19th - 21st July 2024.
The Duncans of Fochabers Stage will showcase a wealth of emerging and local talent, with contemporary traditional band Tìr-Mòr, Aberdeenshire four-piece Ruach, upbeat trio Johnny Sheep & The Coupit Ewes, and local Americana fusion group The Forty Elephants joining the jam-packed lineup.
Located at the main festival bar, the Duncans of Fochabers Stage is known for its party atmosphere and runs concurrently with the impressive Christie main stage line up. Also stepping up to perform on the second stage will be Celtic-pop group Dougal’s Jumper, lively ceilidh band BROMA, and innovative trad outfit MAK 2. Completing the lineup are Elgin rock artist Danny Mortimer, the talented Amber Thornley Trio and Fèis Spè’s Monadh Ruadh band.
The festival was founded on the desire to share world-class music with the next generation and that tradition will continue this year with a suite of music workshops, supported by Beatrice Offshore Windfarm. Top talent will offer aspiring musicians and singers of all levels and ages the
opportunity to learn and collaborate and even perform at the festival.
Multi-instrumental workshops will be run by Dàithi Kearney and Adèle Commins, a husband and wife duo from Ireland, who perform as A Louth Lilt. With a focus on fun, participation and collaboration, there is no requirement to read

music, and the workshops are open to all ages and abilities.
Advanced fiddle workshops, targeted towards players who are keen to develop their experience, will be held by internationally renowned musician Kevin Henderson. Known for his work with leading bands such as Fiddlers’ Bid and Session A9, Kevin will use his vast experience to coach participants on repertoire and technique.
Lizzie’s Big Sing will also return to Speyfest for 2024, with local vocal coach Lizzie Sharp welcoming anyone who enjoys singing to take part in lively workshops. Open to all ages and abilities, with no auditions or solos, the workshops are fun and friendly, with something for everyone. Anyone interested in signing up should contact erika.stewart@speyfest.com by Monday 15th July.
This year’s festival will also have more on offer for families than ever before, with kids’ events including a silent disco, arts and crafts and face painting with Highland Artisans, and Fox’s Tales interactive story telling sessions from Fox and Friends Highland.
Speyfest Chair Ashleigh Macgregor said: “As Speyfest 2024 grows closer, we’re so excited to share the full programme of events and workshops on offer this year, as well as the stellar lineup for our second stage. We truly have something for everyone at Speyfest and I would encourage everyone who would like to be part of it to secure their tickets and book their places on workshops as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.”
Elsewhere, the festival’s bustling craft fair will welcome makers from across Scotland from 9.30am - 2.30pm on Saturday and its nondenominational Celtic Kirk Service will return at 10am on Sunday, with performances from Celtic Worship, Arc Fiddlers and A Louth Lilt.
The usual array of quality local food and drinks will be available across the weekend, with the bar open throughout the day from 11am.
Fresh for 2024 is a new cocktails and canapés event. This exclusive Saturday event will give festival-goers the chance to enjoy an intimate acoustic performance while enjoying artisan cocktails mixed using local spirits and a selection of mouth-watering bites.
The new activities and additions to the programme join the Christie Stage lineup, which will see outstanding live music from some of the biggest names in Scottish and Irish folk music, including Scottish icons Tide Lines, six-piece Highland powerhouse Trail West, returning favourites Skerryvore, Irish music legends the Sharon Shannon Trio and the celebrated Hannah Rarity Band. Speyfest’s much-loved Family Sunday will this year be hosted by Black Isle multi-instrumentalist and BBC Radio Scotland Travelling Folk presenter Anna Massie.
A range of tickets are available for Speyfest, including weekend passes, concert tickets, stomp tickets, combined tickets, all-day Sunday tickets and a student discount weekend pass. Entry to the craft fair, which is held on Saturday afternoon, is free.

Spey Bay, Garmouth and Kingston Circuit
Tracy undertakes lovely walks all over our beautiful country and we are delighted she has agreed to provide Lifestyle readers with the inside knowledge that she has gleaned from her many adventures.
I hope you enjoy Tracy’s walks? Please do let us know and send us some photos.
This is a fantastic walk that not only takes you along the banks of the river Spey with a chance to see a large variety of wildlife, but you may also have a great chance of spotting dolphins along the Moray coastline.
Start the walk from the information board, turn to your left and follow the path along the banks
Distance: 5 ½ miles
Time: 2-3 hours
Level: Easy with some elevation
Terrain: Pavement, road and well-trodden track.
Access: Arrive by car, parking is available at the Scottish Dolphin Centre, Spey Bay, IV32 7PJ. The M Connect bus is available to book on demand from Fochabers and takes you not too far from the carpark.
of the Spey. Keep your eyes peeled along here as this is where I spotted the resident Osprey, very soon after I started my walk. Keep following the path, there are openings in the trees where you can do plenty of wildlife spotting. I have also seen Otter’s along this area too.
Carry on along the path ignoring any paths that branch off until you reach the green way marker sign. Here you will turn right and head along the Spey viaduct. Built in 1886 the 350 ft long viaduct was once used by the Great North of Scotland Railway for trains running from Portsoy to Elgin.
Once you are over the viaduct you will come to a bridge with steps to the left-hand side. Go up the steps and turn right going over the bridge. This is a short stretch and there is no pavement

so be careful of traffic here. Keep going along Church Road until you come to the old Church on your left.
Turn left onto Church Street admiring some of the lovely houses along the way. Pass by the war memorial as you go on to Spey Street passing the car park and then the playpark, there is another short stretch with no pavement.
You will soon leave Garmouth and walk along the track at the side of the road until you reach Kingston. Once in Kingston follow the road straight ahead until you come to the car park where the road turns left.
At the car park take the track that goes round the back of the houses. Here you will walk between the houses and the estuary. You can often find swans and ducks around this area.
Looking back, you will get an excellent view of the Bin of Cullen hill and the Kingston Beach Hut. Both of these walks can be found on my website.
Keep going along the track until you reach the playpark. At the playpark take a left and head back towards Beach Road. Once you reach Beach Road take a left then take a right at the blue sign post for Garmouth and the Moray Coastal trail.
Follow this path over the burn and you will come back on to the road again. Keep going until you reach the farm with the horses. Take the track to the left of the farm. The path will narrow and head back towards Garmouth, with several benches along the way you can stop and soak up the views of the Moray Coast.
As you return to Garmouth you will find the Garmouth water tower. The tower was built in 1898-9 to distribute water to the people of Garmouth, Kingston and District and continued until around the 1960’s. Next to the water tower are the Browlands standing stones which are thought to be part of a Neolithic stone circle. After you leave the stone circle and water tower head down the path keeping a look out for the
heart in the wall. The path will take you back to Spey Street.
Take a right and retrace your steps back to the old church and to the Spey viaduct. Once over the viaduct keep going straight ahead, this will take you on to the B9014.
When you reach the road, cross over onto the pavement and turn left and head back to Spey Bay. Once you reach the Golf Club take a left again which will take you back to the carpark and the end of your walk.
Don’t forget to check for dolphins before you head home!

Water – Nature’s Magic Potion
We’re probably all aware of the need to keep our skin hydrated in winter, to offset the damage done by chill winds and central heating. But what about in summer? Well unsurprisingly it’s vital then too! Making sure you drink adequate water (which includes tea, coffee, & juice) is just as important when the sun shines and the temperatures rise.
Water is an easy way to improve your beauty routine, and to quickly see a difference in the texture and feel of your skin, as well as its appearance.
Water helps to flush toxins from your skin and your whole body, so ensuring there’s plenty of it around will allow your system to eliminate waste, and the result? Clearer, healthier skin!
When skin is dehydrated, it is stimulated to produce excess oil which can lead to acne and breakouts. Increasing our consumption of water will regulate this, preventing blocked pores and pimples.
Hydrated skin heals more quickly due to improved circulation and the enhanced delivery of nutrients, which improves skin imperfections faster. Great moisture balance in your skin can
be seen by a firm and youthful appearance with improved skin texture, which makes it appear smoother and softer. Dehydrated skin in contrast often feels rough, flaky and dry despite the oiliness.
Healthy, well-hydrated skin is more elastic and resilient to the signs of aging, reducing the signs of fine lines and wrinkles. So, if you want to fundamentally improve your skin this summer, add a couple of extra glasses of water to your daily routine, and discover your new glow!

An
amazing new
product is about to be launched in Scotland and you have the opportunity to try it now!
“
The ingredients are nothing new, we have all heard of the health benefits of Curcumin (turmeric) and vitamins C, D and Ginger. Well, that’s it, but it is now available in these amazing ‘Golden Drops’ which uses BioMS technology.
The Truth about Curcumin!
Although curcumin has been clinically studied and proven to have amazing benefits the challenge has always been its low bioavailability or lack of absorption.
To overcome the issue of bioavailablity scientists developed methods to increase the absorption such as: piperine (from black pepper), liposomes, special formulations with herbs, phospholipid complexes, turmeric oil and curcumin nanoparticles. However black pepper can cause its own health issues.
The most effective in achieving the highest concentrations of curcumin in the bloodstream is the innovative combination of a micelle-based delivery system with nanotechnology, a patented process known as BioMS™.
BioMS™ technology was developed in Germany and it improves bioavailabity of

Rosie Barron is The Tidy Coo, an award winning Declutter Coach and Professional Organiser and author of Easy Life – from chaos to calm with minimal effort. She is Scotland’s only KonMari Master and the northern most member of APDO (The Association of Professional Declutterers
and that they feel comfortable with. In this article, the word “Clutter” is used to describe an excess of stuff that YOU feel is overwhelming.
4 Hidden Costs of Clutter
I talk a lot about how to declutter and organise your home, but I realise that I haven’t, at least not for Lifestyle, gone in to WHY you should declutter and organise. Before I start on the hidden costs of clutter though, I want to explain what “clutter” is. Everyone has a different amount of “stuff” that they need in their home
1. Your Time - Your time is probably the least hidden of the hidden costs. If your home is cluttered, and you cannot find the things that you need, then you waste that most precious commodity of all. Who wants to be spending time looking for their keys when they could be doing something more fun? I am absolutely the person who puts their glasses down and loses them – I did a Facebook post a while back of where my glasses had been every time I had asked the question, “Where are my glasses” – they were all over the place, in my pocket, in the garage, on the table, on my bed, on my head… I am diagnosed with ADHD and have the attention span of a gnat – but I regularly put things down in an absent minded fashion and then waste time trying to find them. Having a decluttered space with specific places for things to live means they are more likely to be where I am expecting to find them (and now I wear glasses all the time, I am much less likely to lose them!).
In addition to losing things, more visual noise in your environment can and Organisers). She lives in Aberdeenshire with her husband, four children and a large menagerie of animals who all bring joy. You can find many of her free resources to help you declutter and organise, as well as how to book in person sessions, on her website, www.thetidycoo.com.

also lead to a decrease in the level of attention that you can give things, meaning that they take longer. Personally, I’d rather get my jobs done and go out and ride my pony! I’m not saying that you should be in a minimalist environment – my house is nothing like that, but I am saying that a decluttered space helps you to get things done.
Decluttering and organising saves you time.
2. Your Money - When your home is cluttered and you cannot find things that you own, you often end up buying a replacement, which is a waste not only of money, but also of the part of our lives that we have had to put to one side to earn that money. I frequently hear, “I’ve been looking for that!” in my sessions with people.
three cats in my home, I can promise you that my home is not an immaculate show home. I am a great believer that dirt is good for the immune system, but there is a limit.
My home it is easy to clean because of the lack of clutter. Spills are easy to clear up, food is not left to go off and although the animals and the wood burning stove create a lot of dirt and dust, it does not build up to unhealthy levels.
Decluttering not only saves you money, but also resets your relationship with your belongings so that you spend much less.
3. Your Health - There is a relationship between clutter and stress, and that is down to feeling out of control. It’s not that having a minimalist home causes you less stress, it’s that feeling out of control of your home increases your stress levels. The amount of clutter is very subjective, but as soon as you feel out of control in your home, which should be your sanctuary, your cortisol levels start to rise. A long-term increase in your cortisol levels can leave you run down and susceptible to mental and physical disorders. In addition, if your home is very cluttered, it can be difficult to maintain a healthy environment and I have been in homes which are hazardous to health. Now with four kids, five dogs and
4. Your Relationships - If you and your partner have differing levels of clutter comfort, what one partner terms an excess amount can lead to arguments and relationship stress. In addition, if you are not comfortable inviting people into your home that can cause stress in friendships, particularly for children. I have known people to become very isolated because they haven’t wanted to invite people into their homes.
Having a home that is quick to tidy up means that I am relaxed about people coming round. Although my husband and I have different ideas of what “clutter” is, having a decluttered home in general allows us to make space for each other in our home.
The KonMari process is not about having a spartan or minimalist house (unless that is what you would like), it’s about choosing the things that you wish to keep in your life and letting go of the things that no longer serve you.

Lifestyle winning team
Iwas honoured and delighted to be nominated again this year for a Moray & Banffshire Heroes Award. Last year I was a finalist in the fundraiser of the year category and attended the award dinner at Brodie with my partner Dod but was not an overall winner on that occasion.
25th April 2024 I was invited to Banff Springs, as a finalist in the Community Champion Category and was accompanied by Morag Martin (Ceamara Photography).
I was delighted to be a finalist but was resigned to the fact that again I was not going to be a winner, as I was convinced that Debbie Kelly, one of the other finalists, would walk it. I just went along to enjoy the evening and see the other winners in each category.
To say I was flabbergasted, when they announced me as the winner, is an understatement. Anyone who knows me, knows I’m never short of something to say and public speaking doesn’t daunt me, but on this occasion, I was lost for words and very emotional. Having lost my partner Dod suddenly in January, it was sad not to have him by my side to see me win this year, but I was still very honoured to be recognised for this award.
I do have to say though as a volunteer in the community, I don’t achieve anything on my own. I have some wonderful volunteers in my community who I wouldn’t survive without.
I would say though we could definitely do with a few more helpers.

Although there is an amazing army of volunteers across the area, and I commend every one of them. It is well documented that there is a distinct shortage of volunteers for all areas of the community from youth organisations, community halls and associations to charities of all descriptions.
If you can offer any of your spare time, whether it’s a couple of hours in an evening once a week or once a month or a weekend once every few months or a few hours in a morning.
Whatever time, little as you may think it is, you can offer, I can assure you there will be a volunteering role available to match.

You all know Tracy goes outside.
Tracy, if you haven’t noticed also looks after Lifestyle’s social media.
Well Tracy was talked into taking part in the Taste of Nairn Tattie Scone Championship on Saturday 11th May by her good friend Claire of Claire Doughty Publicity.
Tracy had to take along her secret ingredients, with all other regular ingredients supplied by Oakwood Cookery School who sponsored this event.
Tracy who called her tattie scone, Honey I must have gone to Nairn, used wild flower honey from Bridge of Marnoch and Arran wholegrain mustard, as her ‘secret’ ingredients.
I don’t think Tracy will mind me sharing that she had never made a tattie scone before in her life. She just thought she was helping her good friend and making up the numbers in the competition.
As it turned out there were actually three heats on the day and Tracy was taking part in the third heat alongside four other contestants.
I was there as Lifestyle was one of the sponsors of the event and I certainly couldn’t miss seeing how our Tracy got on.
Tracy took her task very seriously and followed the recipe supplied by Oakwood Cookery School until it was whisked away as apparently there was a shortage.
They obviously thought Tracy was capable to continue without the recipe and she proved them right and produced a wonderful tattie scone. She tested the first one in the pan to make sure she didn’t burn it. As a seasoned camper Tracy was pretty adept at using the equipment but was taking no chances. Satisfied with the first one the next three went into the pan and four perfect tattie scones were then plated up.
Two had to be delivered to the judges and the public, including me, managed to have a wee taste. I had to admit to not liking either honey or mustard, but the subtle tastes just enhanced the scone, and I admitted it was really nice.
The judges obviously agreed with me, and our Tracy became the World Tattie Scone Champion.
Well done, Tracy!!!!

CANICROSS
We are a nation of animal lovers. While we love cats, we are particularly drawn to dogs for their joie de vivre. They keep us active – unlike cats, who are programmed to sleep all day. Dogs need exercise for both their physical and mental wellbeing; and that brings me back to canicross, which I feel sure a lot of you have not heard of before.
Canicross was first invented in the 1980s in France and Belgium to allow mushers/sled dogs a way to train during the dry season. It is now a sport in and of itself with championships taking place around the world. A runner is attached to their dog via an appropriate harness, bungee line and a belt. Simple really. The sport is gaining more momentum in the UK and, locally, there is Moray Dog Sports, Aberdeenshire Canicross and a smaller one-on-one training with Team Earth Hound.
Canicross is a great outlet for both dogs and humans’ mental health and to get fit together.
48 GET ACTIVE WITH YOUR DOG
With Team Earth Hound, the focus is on teaching a dog to learn the commands and to use their brain whilst running/trekking. It can provide a great way to release pent up energy. The sport itself is welcoming to dogs that may require a muzzle - it must be of an appropriate size and style to allow for a full pant though.
On Saturday, Sunday and Monday 25th, 26th & 27th May at Glamis Castle, the penultimate races took place for Fur Nations by Canix. Scotland, Wales and England competed against one another to hold the title. This is the final event before the season begins again in September.
Scotland smashed it at Glamis, winning all three days but unfortunately were beaten into second place overall by England.
There are three options of race distances available: 2km, 5km and 10km.
Lifestyle’s own photographer
Morag Martin of Ceamara Photography took part for the first time competing for team Scotland in the 2K race with her dog Purdie. The 2k race is not only perfect for first-timers, but also excellent for youngsters to start off running with an adult.
If running isn't your style, there is bikejöring and scootering available too. Canicross can give dogs that love to pull, a way to 'not get told off' and enjoy pulling to their hearts’ content. Curious? Interested? For more information about the sport please contact Molly @ teamearthhound on Instagram. Molly will help you to find all the information you need to whet your appetite.

GARDENING Edible hanging Baskets
Hanging baskets are fantastic for adding colour to your garden fence, outside your front door or in a row against a garden wall. However, they don’t just need to include plants – why not plant up a hanging basket that’s productive as well as beautiful?
An edible hanging basket is a clever way to get a little more produce out of your garden. Lots of types of fruit and veg do better raised off the ground: strawberries, for example, are kept well away from slugs, so you get to pick your crop unmunched and perfect.
Like flower planted hanging baskets, edible hanging baskets can be planted with a mix of different edibles mixing foliage (herbs) and fruits together. This will create an amazing mix of things to eat in the same basket as well as a vibrant display. You can even create an ‘instant dish’ by planting complementary veg together, like tomato and basil for all the ingredients you need to make a flavoursome Mediterranean sauce.
Why not combine your favourite herbs for putting on the BBQ, adding to cocktails or herbs that you can add to salads? Herbs such as basil, coriander or chives are a great option to have hanging just outside the kitchen to add to dishes as and when required!
Here are some great varieties to try growing up in the air this year:
• Tumbling tomatoes cascade fetchingly in jewels of red and yellow. Choose a
container variety like ‘Tumbling Tom Red’. Keep well-watered and feed with liquid fertiliser once a week.
• Chillies are Mexican firecrackers which love a hot, dry spot and don’t mind restricted roots.
• Peas: mangetout peas and dwarf types like ‘Bingo’ or ‘Little Marvel’ do exceptionally well in hanging baskets and don’t need any support. Choose a larger basket and water well.
• Strawberries: fill a hanging basket with two or three strawberry plants and they’ll froth joyously over the edge.
• Herbs: Mediterranean herbs love conditions in hanging baskets. Hang your basket right by the back door for easy picking. Herbs that do well in hanging baskets include thyme, marjoram, basil and summer savoury.
You will find everything you need at Simpsons Garden Centres.
Please ask the staff in the outdoor area for more information and advice.

This one-day event is a celebration of this beautiful green space and the Forres area. 2024 marks the 100-year anniversary of the park being gifted to the town of Forres by Sir Alexander Grant in 1924. Sir Alexander is known for his generosity, but possibly more so as the inventor of the Digestive Biscuit!
The park and Forres is steeped in history and throughout the day you will be taken on a historical journey from the 1920s to the current day and perhaps even into the future.
Join us on August 24 for have-a-go-activities, a mini-Highland Games, a cooking competition featuring the famous digestive biscuit, the AES Solar Science Tent, the Forres & District Pipe Band, food, craft, funfair and beer tent.

BOOK
FANTASTIC FORRES
Abeautifully illustrated history book for young people has been self-published in Forres by a young author, Ewen Watson
The book was illustrated and designed by Sathya Schlosser, with the research and writing undertaken by Ewen.
Ewen consulted with local groups and people, including Forres Heritage Trust, Friends of the Falconer Museum and local archivists and historians.
Funding received from the Forres Common Good Fund allowed Ewen to donate multiple copies of the book to every school in the Forres ASG. Three books have also been gifted to the Forres Library.
Ewen and Sathya have delivered book talks to schools across the Forres ASG and hope to have visited all classes in every school by July.
Ewen has also used the book to promote Ray's Opportunities, a charity for people in Forres with physical, learning and hidden disabilities.
You can not only purchase the book, but you must visit a Fantastic Forres display in Nelson’s Tower in Forres which was part funded by Visit Moray Speyside and supported by Forres Heritage Trust.
Funding from Berry Burn Community Fund to produce a short, animated film based on the book is scheduled for release this summer.
Sales so far have been excellent, and the book has been well received in the community. Look out for copies in shops and at events over the summer.
Ewen and Sathya have plans to produce more books in towns across Moray and with the amazing start he has made with Fantastic Forres I have no doubt this will be achieved.
Visit www.fantasticforres.com for more information.

Are you using your mobility scooter legally?
Most mobility scooter users will be unaware that the UK Government has recently updated its guidance about the different classes of mobility scooters and powerchairs, with a new section describing what a “not in a class” vehicle is. They may be using them illegally as the user is required to have a driving licence and insurance.
A “not in a class” mobility vehicle which has the capacity to travel faster than 8mph (even if only set to go up to 8mph) can only be used on roads.
If you cause an accident while driving a mobility scooter or powered wheelchair that’s “not in a class”, you can be given the same penalty as if you were driving a car. You can go to prison, get a driving ban or get an unlimited fine.
The guidance explains what class 2 and class 3 mobility scooters and powerchairs are. Usually, these devices are class 2 if it has a maximum speed of 4mph or less and class 3 if it has a maximum speed of 6 or 8mph.
Class 2 and 3 mobility scooters and powerchairs can be used on pavements,
56 MOBILITY
other pedestrian areas, and cycle tracks up to 4mph.
Class 3 mobility scooters and powerchairs can also be used on the road. These vehicles must be registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).
Now, the updated guidance underlines what “not in a class” mobility scooters and powerchairs are, the main feature being it can travel faster than 8mph. Users must have a valid driving licence to drive one and register their vehicle with the DVLA. And they must have insurance.
Carol Elliot, Managing Director of City Mobility in Inverness, said whilst City Mobility only provides class 2 and class 3 products, some people may have bought products on the internet that can travel faster than 8mph and aren’t aware of the rule change.
“As conscientious retailers we check via demonstrations and test drives that people that buy products from us or lease products through us on the Motability Scheme are getting the right product for their needs and have the competency and capacity to use them.” She said.
“We were the first mobility retailer in Scotland to become accredited by the Department of Transport through training by Driving Mobility to help improve safety for product users and for the general public”.
“We’ve heard from lots of people who have bought products via the internet without having any checks on their competency or having had a trial of the product beforehand. Whilst we are happy to service and repair them we can’t always get parts for them. Some have turned out to even be illegal in the UK.” She added.
City Mobility was awarded the “Best Retailer in Scotland” in November 2023 and prides itself in only providing products from well known, reputable mobility companies. It is the only dealer north of the central belt of Scotland that provides powerchairs and scooters through the Motability Lease Scheme. Check out the website at www.city-mobility.co.uk for more information.

If so, here are five tips to follow, and three they’ll definitely want to avoid!
1. Birth partners need to familiarise themselves with your birth plan and be ready to advocate for your wishes during labour and birth.
2. They need to recognise the signs that you’re in labour and know when to call the midwife or take you to the hospital.
3. They can give you emotional support and reassurance and know when to stay quiet!
4. They can support you to cope as well as possible throughout labour by giving you light touch massage and encouraging you to follow your breathing techniques.
5. As a birth partner, they can only be a good support during labour and birth if you stay hydrated, eat regularly and have their own contact for emotional support.
Birth partners will do well to avoid the following:
1. Complaining that it’s been ages and nothing is happening yet. A woman’s body relaxes when she feels safe, comfortable and supported. The more that someone complains or put doubt in your mind about the process, the slower it will be.
2. Eating your snacks; they do this at their own risk! Some women in labour don’t want to eat anything, and others thrive on small morale boosting snacks. Birth partners, be sure to pack your favourites and keep them separate!
3. Messaging everyone to say ‘she’s in labour!’ Whatever you do, make sure you and your birth partner agree in advance what is to bed communicated (and with whom). The last thing you need is a raft of worried messages from people who don’t understand the process of labour.
Enjoy all the moments you can and remember that you’ll only ever get to birth this baby once, so make it as memorable as you can for all the right reasons.

Boost your mental health by moving more
One of the most important things we can do to help protect our mental health is regular movement. Our bodies and our minds are connected. Looking after ourselves physically also helps us prevent problems with our mental health.
Movement is a great way to enhance our wellbeing. Even a short burst of 10 minutes brisk walking can boost our mood and increase our mental alertness and energy. Movement helps us feel better about our bodies and improve self-esteem. It can also help reduce stress and anxiety and help us to sleep better.
Find moments for movement every day; this could be stretching in your chair, putting on your favourite song to have a quick dance break, taking the stairs instead of the lift. Movement looks different for everyone, don’t compare yourself to others. We all have different capacities and comparison can leave us feeling disempowered. Try to set small, achievable goals. Your goals are personal to you, and as you make progress you will create positive feelings that can boost your confidence and mood.
Here in Moray, we have just launched a new, online resource; Pathways to Physical Activity; to help people of all ages connect with local options to get physically active for their wellbeing. Built in collaboration with Moray Wellbeing Hub and Moray Community Sports Development Team (Moray Council) there are details of Moray based sports clubs that are committed to supporting good mental health and wellbeing.
These sports clubs and coaches have received certification from the Moray Mental Health Charter for Physical Activity and Sport. The accreditation scheme reflects that the affiliated clubs have completed training in mental health first aid, sign posting for support and traumabased approaches. The accreditation mark not only provides evidence of a club’s commitment to supporting good mental wellbeing of its members but the willingness of the club to receive referrals from mental health support agencies.
