Happy new year, friends MY TEA DRAWER HAS NEVER LOOKED BETTER. When my daughter came home for Christmas, she dove deep into my kitchen, organizing cupboards, cleaning out my baking bins, tossing outdated peanut butter jars and tidying the spice drawer (savory vs sweet). Now, my Earl Grey keeps company with a fellow caffeinated favorite, Constant Comment. Peppermint, ginger and turmeric and lavender chamomile are lined up like soldiers ready to do go to battle with what ails me. Getting organized is a buoyant way to start the new year and I love it! Outside the kitchen, I’m clearing my head with yoga (we have so many studios here, all keeping cleanliness as a priority). Walking through my neighborhood, biking a

MEET AVERY CAMERA, A BUSY SENIOR AT ALPHARETTA HIGH SCHOOL. For this Energizer bunny going! AL: ARE SPORTS IMPORTANT TO YOU? AC: I have played competitive softball pretty much my entire life, including four years on varsity at my high school. While that keeps me occupied in the fall, I have been playing lacrosse in the spring for about four years now as well. I love keeping myself busy during school as a way to ease the stress it can have on me and have found that sports do this perfectly. AL: WHAT ARE YOUR GO-TO HEALTHY SNACKS TO KEEP YOU FUELED? AC: I love to snack on fruit or vegetables, but especially love apples, grapes, and carrots. They are easy to just grab and go if I find myself in a hurry which makes them all the better.

DO YOU LIKE TO UNWIND? AC: I love to read books or just hang out with my friends, but recently my favorite activity to unwind with is going for a long walk at my local park and listening to a podcast or music. I have found this to be very soothing, as well as an excellent way to get exercise while educating myself on whatever topic I choose for that day. GET CARRYOUT FOOD FROM, BUY GIFTS FOR FRIENDS (AND YOURSELF!). AC: To hangout, my friends and I usually just pick one of our houses to meet up at because we do not mind just relaxing, watching movies, or playing cards. It is also a great way to save some money! If I am not shopping online, you could probably find me at the mall (specifically Aerie) or somewhere in Avalon either buying gifts for friends or myself, although I do not shop too often because I like to save money for larger purchases. As for food, my favorite spot is probably Chipotle because it is quick, easy, and delicious. AL: TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY. AC: Currently in my house, it is just my mom and dad, as well as my twin sister, Riley. I have two other sisters though; one is a sophomore at Georgia Southern University and the other is a senior at Florida State University. Also, with us at home are my two

ALPHARETTA HIGH SCHOOL'S NEW CLASS TEACHES ENVIRONMENTAL ETHICS AND SKILLS
I STILL REMEMBER THE DAY THAT MR. BURTON, MY AP ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE TEACHER, ANNOUNCED HE WOULD BE LAUNCHING AN OUTDOOR EDUCATION CLASS FOR THE FOLLOWING SCHOOL YEAR. It was early January when he told my class. I remember looking at the overcast sky, still shaking due to the chill outside, and wondering how on earth a class would want to do anything outside in this weather. Despite the cold introduction, I soon warmed up to the idea of outdoor education. Mr. Burton explained the purpose of the class and the multitude of activities the class would offer. A combination of my love for AP Environmental Science and a desire to learn real-life environmental skills motivated me to sign up for Outdoor Education for the 2020-2021 school year.

AN OUTDOOR EDUCATION (CONTINUED)
I think that decision may have been one of the one of the best I have made throughout my high school career. Despite the Coronavirus pandemic, we have still been able to do activities like trail running, outdoor cooking, knot tying, camping basics, archery, and kayaking by enforcing social distancing and mask-wearing. Though the intended purpose of Outdoor Education was to learn outdoorsy skills, my favorite part of the class so far has been learning environmental ethics. As someone who cares deeply for the environment, learning small but effective ways to lessen my environmental footprint has been extremely beneficial. Small changes like knowing how to recycle, swapping single-use plastic for reusable alternatives, or just turning off the tap while brushing your teeth can have a huge impact on our Earth. I am extremely grateful to Mr. Burton and Outdoor Education for motivating me to protect the Earth by showing all it has to offer! Ally is a senior at Alpharetta High School.
