Celebrating Women
We love this issue, and we hope you'll agree. It provides the opportunity to recognize and share gratitude for the women in our lives who make life more rich and beautiful. Our wives, mothers, daughters, friends and colleagues are some of the most influential people in our lives.
And, of course, with Mother’s Day this month, all eyes are on moms. It’s not just the biological mothers, but all the mother figures in our lives who have made an indelible impact on us. It’s the family members, teachers, friends and neighbors doing awesome things in our communities and pouring into the lives of others —making themselves unforgettable and irreplaceable.
It is also a great time to reflect on the importance of taking care of ourselves. Ensuring we carve time out for good health habits and to be aware of signs and symptoms that signal the need for special attention.
This month is the perfect time to shop and support women-owned businesses. That’s one of my favorite parts of this role — connecting with, highlighting and championing the best of the best. Although there is lots of good stuff in this month's issue, we're excited about our centerpiece feature starting on page 28.
It's all about local women who are movers and shakers, builders and makers in very different industries and professions. They are both seen and unseen. Their service blesses those they serve and who are under their care. Their attention to detail shows us something about beauty that can’t be seen or understood any other way. We invite you to read, and you'll see what we mean.
Also, check out some of our Publisher's Assistant Abby Ramsey's favorite places to spend mother-daughter time this season, on page 50.
This month, let's all find a few extra minutes to send a card, make a phone call or get the kids on a video chat with the women in your life who deserve recognition. It only takes a minute to brighten someone’s day and remind them how much you love them.
From our family to yours, have a wonderful Mother's Day!
Sincerely,
May 2023

“Over the years, we’ve bought and sold a number of high-end residential properties in several cities. Amy is by far, the best agent we have ever dealt with. In addition to the traits reviewed above, she listen and she is so very pleasant and professional. Nothing fell through the cracks. . . . seriously. She is very diligent with details, and in the end, it was Amy’s negotiation skills that made our deal work. She got very creative and was masterful in negotiations. I’m actually a tough reviewer and a discerning consumer, so believe me when I say these things. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to call on her again.”

Bouquet of Local Blooms for Spring
Advice from Flowers of Marietta on perfect picks
We spoke to Zain Moosa, owner of Flowers of Marietta, about beautiful bouquets for your spring celebrations. Zain resided in the United Arab Emirates for more than a decade, crediting his time there for showing him the freedom and joy of entrepreneurship. After moving to the United States, Zain encountered a local flower shop, which he felt drawn to for its beauty, versatility and customer service. When the time came, he purchased the shop, and it has “blossomed” in the Cobb area and beyond ever since.
From Mother’s Day to graduation and weddings, flowers represent momentous occasions, and Zain enjoys the creativity and the hard work of the team as they wow customers with flowers on a daily basis. He shares with East Cobb
Lifestyle tips for selecting and protecting your arrangement.
WHAT FLOWERS ARE HARDY AND STAY BEAUTIFUL LONGER?
My advice is to choose flowers with clean, strong stems. Reject flowers with soft, discolored stems. Discoloration indicates bacteria have entered and will move upward to contaminate the leaves and flowers as they multiply. Also, skip flowers with slime on the stems or broken stems.
HOW DOES A RECIPIENT CARE FOR FRESH-CUT FLORALS?
To ensure your flowers last, start by cleaning the vase and filling it two-thirds with fresh, lukewarm water and flower food. Remove foliage that will sit below
the waterline, and trim the stems at a 45-degree angle. Change the water regularly after the second day, and keep flowers out of direct sunlight. Placing your arrangement in the fridge overnight will also help extend the flowers’ life. Finally, remove any wilted flowers to prevent the spread of mold.
WHAT SPECIAL ITEMS DO YOU OFFER?
With every transaction, we provide customers with the opportunity to enhance purchases by adding delectable chocolates and delightfully fragranced candles. Flowers Of Marietta is proud to offer a selection of thoughtfully curated gift baskets to complement our stunning floral arrangements.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT CATAPULTS GOCA TO NATIONAL RECOGNITION
PHOTOGRAPHY BY JOLIE LOREN PHOTOGRAPHY
25 YEARS OF AWARENESS
video history can be viewed on the video page of the newly redesigned GOCA website.
Coming together again is at the top of everyone’s mind this year, according to executive director Doug Barron. “As we celebrate GOCA’s 25th Anniversary, we are committed to the founding members’ vision and mission of the importance of ovarian cancer education, awareness and early detection,” he says.
This year, the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance (GOCA) is celebrating its 25th anniversary. From humble beginnings around a dining room table in Sandy Springs to becoming a nationally recognized women’s organization, GOCA leads Georgia in educating women about the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. The original mission for the organization is alive and well through patient support programs and advocacy work accomplished through the Bag of Hope Program, Survivors Teaching Students and many community-based education and awareness events held annually across the state.
Recent years of pandemic worry had kept GOCA’s medically fragile community from celebrating together. The pivot to virtual fundraising was monumentally important in keeping the organization thriving. Dine-a-long charity fundraising and intimate online wine tastings honed GOCA’s approach to virtual storytelling during the pandemic and created memorable biographies, music videos, heartfelt stories of survival and memorials. The organization’s rich
The 13th Annual 2023 Shaken, Not Stirred Gala, held on March 11 at Georgia Aquarium, was an evening of fun and fundraising that offered the community an uplifting evening of remembrance. Atlanta News First’s own Monica Pearson hosted over 500 guests. Thanks to Jordan Campbell, the dynamic auctioneer, GOCA’s supporters raised more than $360,000 to support the organization’s programs and community outreach.
This year’s gala also honored all the City Lifestyle magazines throughout metropolitan Atlanta. Over the last decade, City Lifestyle’s dedication to GOCA has changed the way people think about ovarian cancer. Whether advertising the “Teal Trot” or “Teal to Heal,” for City Lifestyle, it has always been about the survivors. Highlighting individual survivor stories while profiling GOCA’s most memorable annual fundraising events offers readers the chance to be inspired by the journeys of many different women.
Other upcoming GOCA events include the 21st Annual Teal Trot 5K Walk/Run — the largest ovarian cancer awareness event in Georgia and one of the largest awareness events in the Southeastern United States — as well as the 2023 Teal to Heal Fashion Show, produced by Tootsies Buckhead. “The Teal Trot is an uplifting celebration of our community remembering, honoring

and recognizing woman of all ages, their families and friends who have, are or will be affected by ovarian cancer — as well as an opportunity to educate the public about the risks and symptoms of ovarian cancer,” says Barron.
“The Teal to Heal fashion show allows the strength, courage, personality and beauty of the survivor participants to shine, which is so empowering to them and touching for our attendees,” he adds.
The “Teal Trot,” which will be held September 16 at Chastain Park, is a high-spirited community event that is just plain ol’ fun. The high-energy crowd of over 1,000 people is a great way to meet friends new and old and to learn about GOCA. Meanwhile, “Teal to Heal” on November 2 will explore the finest in women’s fall and winter fashions.
Whether you show the organization support by walking with a fundraising team at Teal Trot or strutting down the runway at Teal to Heal, GOCA’s continued presence in our community and across Georgia strengthens the mission and offers much-needed support to women at every phase of diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

Molding Young Minds
Dr. Cassondra Zielinski, current Teacher of the Year at Mountain View Elementary, has loved obtaining new knowledge since childhood. With interests that span robotics, space, coding and technology, she’s now leading young minds as a STEM instructional specialist, a Science Olympiad Coordinator, a MATH Team Coordinator, a Girls Who Game Coordinator and other roles.
Meanwhile, Georgia’s Elementary Art Teacher of the Year and Shallowford Falls Elementary educator Krista Lewis treasures how art transforms students in myriad ways.
“Art gives kids an outlet to express their feelings and shows them what they know in a new way.” she notes. “It brings me joy to watch them create and to see the sparkle in their eyes when they’re proud of what they’ve made.”
Wheeler High School Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Brittny R. Jones also values the privilege of supporting Cobb students – she discovered her penchant for both teaching and coaching meant administration could be ideal. “At one point, I dreamed of becoming a guidance counselor because

of my love for supporting students inside and outside of the classroom. On the other hand, I was still passionate about athletics, and wanted to explore becoming a basketball coach,” she shares. “Teaching and coaching then led me to leadership. I thoroughly enjoy being an Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Wheeler High School!”
All three agree every day as an educator is its own challenge — in a good way. Great educators must be swift to address what is needed at the moment, keeping in mind the spectrum of their roles. “Each day is an adventure,” Jones says, on being Wheeler High’s assistant principal. “I may have a ‘to-do’ list for that particular day. However, based on the needs of our students and teachers, there may be a more critical need with other tasks.”
In the classroom, of course, knowing each student on an in-depth level is paramount. “I have open studio in my classroom for 4th and 5th graders to come in and create art until their school day begins,” Lewis comments. “It’s during this time that I really get to know the students on a personal level . . . and support their art making.”
Outside of the workday, learning more about their fields — whether it’s STEM-related, athletic, artistic or administrative — continues to be a draw for these three savvy educators.
“To stay ahead of the enrichment curve, I’m always researching the latest on space exploration,” says Zielinski. “I speak to leaders in their fields and offer connections to the learning I do in STEM. I speak at numerous conferences, such as the Space Exploration Educators Conference at Space Center Houston; the
National Science Teachers Association; and the Space Port Area Conference for Educators at Kennedy Space Center Florida. I also speak at local conferences.”
“I tend to do a lot of professional development when I'm not actively teaching,” Lewis agrees. “I like to stay current with art trends and be aware of new and emerging artists that I can expose my students to in the upcoming school year.”
For Zielinski, Lewis and Jones – among others — dedication and hard work are paying off in a big way. All three educators have risen above and beyond the classroom call of duty, with Lewis earning a statewide art teacher award, Jones leading the Wheeler Wildcats to their second state basketball championship and Zielinski starting Mountain View’s new Launchapalooza program for STEM students, in coordination with NASA.
“STEM is simply a mindset and one that we all possess and utilize daily – no matter our title, career, or background,” Zielinski muses.
“We solve problems through innovative solutions, both as students and educators.”
“I believe receiving the Elementary Art Educator of the year award helps me shed light on the importance of art for our students,” Lewis notes. My students are proud to tell people that they are in my class, and they can see the importance of all teachers in their lives. This award is giving me an opportunity to advocate for not only my students but all students in the state of Georgia.”
“The Cobb County School District is the best place to teach, lead and learn,” Jones adds. “There is no better place to work!”
“The Cobb County School District is the best place to teach, lead and learn. There is no better place to work!”

Style Tips She Needs this Season
Refresh your wardrobe with 3 key accessories
Does mom (or daughter or sister) need a style update for spring? Good news — you won't have to overhaul your entire wardrobe. This season, a few key elements – namely, belts, hats and handbags – can take any look to the next level.
ADD CURVES WITH BELTS.
Add a statement belt to your new warm-weather dress or pantsuit. Not only does this small, stylish addition add flattering curves to any woman's figure, it can transform a long-loved frock or suit to something you're excited to wear again!
Belts were all over the runways for warmer months, so follow your heart when it comes to style. We suggest a wide leather belt in a neutral shade to give your dress or suit extra style points.
FASHION FORWARD | STYLE + BEAUTY
22
HATS ARE BACK.
. . . But honestly, did hats ever leave? Here in the South, we belles love to keep the sunshine off our faces at the beach or park – and this season, hats move from just a sunbathing accessory to a regular style perk.
CARRY A CLASSIC SHAPE HANDBAG.
Do you normally sit out the crazy "it bag" trends and stick to the classics that you know and love? We have a surprise for you — the classics are in this year!
Whether you're shopping and dining around East Cobb, headed to an outdoor event or painting the town in the evening, hobo shapes, totes and ladylike classic bags are all perfect additions.
We suggest a slouchy hobo for a Saturday brunch, a tote for shopping or traveling and the classic silhouette for your next evening out with your sweetie. Have fun turning heads!
Whereas a wider brimmed hat (check out our lakeside model for an example) is perfect to keep UVA and UVB rays away, try a smaller-brimmed hat (as shown by the city model) added to a dress for a chic weekend outfit. When in doubt, though, choose a slightly larger brim. They are universally flattering and they'll protect your skin as a bonus.

We asked Chelsea Iantello of Closet Designs and More to give us closet tips for your new spring clothes and accessories – including those hats, belts and purses you splurged on. Here are her best tips for customized closets that work for your wardrobe — now get out there and treat yourself to something nice!
WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF CLOSET DESIGNS AND MORE?
My dad, Bill Fletcher, started the business after building a custom closet for my daughter. He used real wood for her tiny sloped ceiling closet and realized there had to be a better way. The business started picking up pretty quickly, and my husband, Jason, joined him in doing most of the installs. My dad retired in 2018, and Jason and I took over.
It’s easy to make a closet beautiful. Most custom closets are beautiful. Our aim is to make your closet more functional, so that it saves you time and energy. We want to know how you want to live in your space and customize it to suit your wants and needs.
HOW DO YOU APPROACH A DISORGANIZED CLOSET?
Messy closets are great for us! Most closets we see are messy because the storage is limited to a few wire shelves. When we do a consultation, we’ll measure how much short hang and long hang space you need and design the new layout accordingly. It’s very important that when you move your items back into the closet, there is a place for everything. Once everything has a place it’s easier to keep the closet neat. Every once in a while, we refer a client to an organizer
to help review everything before installing a custom closet.
WHAT CLOSET ACCESSORIES DO YOU OFFER THE HAT LOVER, BELT LOVER AND PURSE LOVER?
We have tons of options for hat, belt and purse storage. We’ve done purse shelves behind glass doors, hook systems that slide out for hat and belt storage or stationary hooks installed on the closet material or the wall.
We recommend visiting our showroom by appointment to decide which styles and colors you prefer for your closet. Many clients stick with white materials because it’s timeless, but it's always nice to mix it up with a pop of color on the drawers or glam it up with matte gold hardware. There are so many options for dressing up a closet.
WHAT OTHER CLOSET ACCESSORIES DO YOU RECOMMEND?
My favorite accessory is a valet bar. It’s a simple bar that pulls out to hang things on. It’s perfect for planning your outfit for a night out or when your hands are full of hangers from the dry cleaner or laundry room.
WHAT ARE YOUR OWN FAVORITE METHODS FOR GETTING DRESSED?
You know how Steve Jobs wore jeans and a black turtleneck every day? I’m pretty similar, except I like white shirts and hoop earrings. I live in jeans because I float between job sites and client visits daily. I always have a sweater or light jacket for the morning.

Women to Watch
ALL OF THESE LEADERS HAVE PASSION AND PURPOSE
ARTICLE BY DENISE K. JAMES
We spoke to several leading ladies around Cobb and beyond to find out what the women of the Atlanta metro are up to lately — and the answer is, a lot! From running busy companies and nonprofits to raising families and connecting with their communities, these powerhouse individuals are raising the bar for us all, in a good way.
Mary Jane and Nanci Reilly are a mother-and-daughter “dream team” as owners of Reilly Resort Representatives. The firm serves over 540 hotels across 90+ countries, and the owners have over 30 years of experience with renowned hospitality brands such as Vail Resorts, Preferred Hotel Group and more. “We bring a wealth of expertise to our company,” says Mary Jane. “My mom brings knowledge and experience, while I bring fresh, innovative ideas to the table.”
Both daughter and mother agree their roles are always shifting and evolving — in better ways than they ever expected. “We chuckle about how many of us just stumble into the hospitality world. But now, my mission and fresh obsession is to ignite a spark in budding pros and show them the magic of this industry,” Mary Jane comments. “If your heart’s set on luxury travel, here’s the inside scoop: Tap into your network, and be ready for anything because you never know where it’ll take you.”
Because the travel industry requires staying ahead of the curve, Mary Jane and Nanci are always building relationships and researching trends. “Our industry boasts a robust, closely connected community that has helped propel our company to its current success,” Mary Jane notes. “To maintain these invaluable relationships, we attend various industry conferences and events and even organize our own roadshows where we journey to our key markets every quarter. By doing so, we stay in the loop and keep our fingers on the pulse of our industry.”

Dr. Cristi Cheek has known since second grade that dentistry was her calling. While daydreaming of a career, her mother always assured her she could become and achieve anything. “It never occurred to me that any goal could ever be out of reach because of my mom instilling that belief,” Dr. Cheek says.
After attending the Medical College of Georgia and receiving a degree in Dental Medicine, Dr. Cheek worked as an associate for a local practice for two years before opening her current practice, Cheek Dental in East Cobb. “We have grown to a team of 14, including myself, my associate Dr. Kristy Chandler and some really talented staff members,” she says. “I have found that if you truly care about people, people recognize and appreciate that, and your business will naturally grow!”
“The practice embodies our six core values, two of which are ‘a servant’s heart’ and ‘honesty and integrity,’” she adds. “We love serving our community, delivering excellent service while making each visit as pleasant — and even as fun — as possible! We want our patients to feel that they are among friends here … friends who truly care about their needs and wants and who treat them like family. One of my greatest rewards is knowing we have earned the complete trust of a patient.”
While running her busy practice and raising three kids alongside her husband of 20 years, Dr. Cheek always finds time to advance her profession by taking hundreds of course hours to further her skills in cosmetic dentistry, implant procedures, sleep medicine and more — and she shares her knowledge with other dentists.
She feels deeply that helping those less fortunate is important and has been involved in mission trips to Haiti and Alaska through her church and served in the Mission of Mercy, providing free dental services to underprivileged Georgians.
“I’ve also always supported our local schools’ sports and band programs through sponsorships from Cheek Dental. I know those programs are beneficial to our kids, and I enjoy conversing with fellow marching band parents at my son’s performances and at my daughter’s volleyball games,” she says, smiling.
“We love serving our community, delivering excellent service while making each visit as pleasant — and even as fun — as possible!”

Natalie DeLancey, executive director at City Springs Theatre Company, helped launch the theater company as a managing director in 2017. Before that, she held a number of esteemed roles in the arts — as well as produced and directed the Shuler Hensley Awards, receiving a Southeast Regional Emmy. “For as long as I can remember, performing arts have been a part of my life, including training and studying musical theater through high school at Pebblebrook High School’s Cobb County Center for Excellence in the Performing Arts,” she says. “I received my bachelor’s in Theatre and Performance Studies from Kennesaw State University’s College of the Arts.”
Natalie is inspired by her grandmother, Barbara Williams, who was a passionate proponent for a strong arts presence in Cobb. “Since I was a little girl, I have admired the way she connected with the community,” she says. “I knew my career was destined to continue the work that she began. While my work has taken me to Sandy Springs, the community continues to be the driving force behind what we have built and is what fuels me to build a robust arts community.”
A believer in the importance of loving one’s profession, Natalie treasures her role with City Springs and the opportunity to bring high-quality theater to patrons throughout Atlanta. She also takes an active role in building key relationships. “I’ve prioritized getting to know as many of our donors, subscribers, conservatory students and parents as possible,” she notes. “At every performance, I’m present in the lobby to greet people during intermission and after the show. I speak to our donors daily, and I get to know the parents who wait for their child while they take a voice lesson at our studio space.”
In the wake of the pandemic, Natalie urges those who value the arts to return to the theater. “Live theater is continuing to rebuild, and we need the community’s help,” she says. “If you are able, please consider supporting your favorite arts organization by seeing shows, purchasing season tickets or making a tax-deductible donation. City Springs Theatre Company was born out of the community, and we have been intentional in engaging its supporters on a deeper level.”
“Live theater is continuing to rebuild, and we need the community’s help.”

Sarah Churilla has worked in laundry and dry cleaning from the young age of 14 — and, as a native of East Cobb, she started at Crown Cleaners. After graduating from Georgia Southern and working for a health care laundry company called ImageFIRST, which served hospitals and surgery centers throughout Atlanta, Sarah became one of the co-founders of Tumble & Dry, a modern laundry service that makes everyone’s life easier.
Sarah has always been inspired and encouraged by the women in her life — from her mother, sisters and aunts to her mother-in-law and close female friends. “I’m lucky to be surrounded by strong, dynamic women,” she says. “My mom has always been a voice of reason, encouraging me to push toward my goals. My sisters Jen and Morgan, my soon-to-be sister Emily and my aunts Judy and Gerry have been supportive along this journey. My mother-in-law, a “Laundry Fairy,” has helped set the bar high for our quality standards. Finally, my dear girlfriends have helped to promote T&D locally. I am so grateful for their support and love.”
She’s also swift to credit her husband, Andrew, and 5-year-old son, Drew, who is on the autism spectrum, for T&D’s success. “My goal is to build a business where Drew can one day find employment and a sense of purpose. He is my joy and my own ‘north star’ every day in growing this brand. I’m also having lots of fun along the way!” she says.
“As a new business, our current focus is establishing a strong foundation and strategic partnerships,” she adds. “Coincidentally, my business partner also has a son named Drew who is on the spectrum, and one of our long-term goals is to create opportunities for adults with disabilities to find work in our laundromats.”
Sarah believes that having a luxury such as laundry care can alleviate daily stress and allow for more time to enjoy the richness of life. “In today’s world, we are overloaded with responsibilities but not time,” she notes. “By letting T&D handle the task of laundry, our clients can spend more time with their families doing what they enjoy. We provide time, efficiency and freedom — not just a laundry service.”
“My mom has always been a voice of reason, encouraging me to push toward my goals. My sisters Jen and Morgan, my soon-to-be sister Emily and my aunts Judy and Gerry have been supportive along this journey.”

Page Henry’s passion for real estate began at a young age, accompanying her father on drives around town to check out family-owned properties, listening to stories about his love for the industry. Later, Page would pursue a degree in Textiles and Design, obtaining roles with Vick’s Pharmaceutical Company in Atlanta, then Hanes Corporate in New York. “Those roles taught me the value of in-depth research and attention to detail,” she says.
This same tenacity ended up serving her well when she forayed into real estate. Starting as an assistant to a successful Realtor in the Harry Norman Buckhead office, Page learned “the real estate ropes” from the woman she calls “a wonderful mentor.” “She taught me about constant perseverance in the field, especially when it comes to listening to your clients and being able to find them a real estate opportunity that meets their wishes. She was . . . an amazing real estate professional, and I will always be grateful to her.”
Today, as co-founder of the Page & Carl Henry Group alongside her husband, Page is “always moving forward with purpose.” A runner and an early riser, she believes health and wellness are true keys to success – as well as spending time with family, friends and clients who “fill her with joy.” “One of the highlights of my career was being the recipient of the Harry Norman Realtors President’s Award, for the associate who has distinguished themselves in the community and industry,” she says. “In addition, serving on the Atlanta Woman’s Club Board of Trustees — one of Atlanta’s oldest nonprofit women’s organizations in Atlanta — has been a truly rewarding life experience.”

Lisa Thompson, a lifelong resident of Georgia and graduate of the University of Georgia, is vice president of HNTB Corporation, where she has successfully grown the firm by more than $250 million. Describing herself as a “glass half-full” kind of thinker, Lisa fosters the belief that she can achieve goals and meet any sort of challenge with the proper focus, drive and determination – and she gets this belief honestly from the key people of her life who inspired her: her mother, Marie Roberts; her grandmother, Hallie Locke; and two career mentors, Freddi Hagin and Mary Jane O’Meara.
“I believe in treating my clients and colleagues as extended family,” she says. “With this attitude, you pour your heart into making sure their needs are met, and, most of the time, you find that behavior to be reciprocated.”
Lisa gives back to the community in myriad ways. She has served on the boards of Women in Transportation International and the International Bridge, Tunnel & Turnpike Association Foundation, and she currently serves on the American Public Transit Foundation’s board of directors. In 2022, Thompson was honored with the Living in Legacy Award by Atlanta’s WTS chapter and was a 2023 Dress for Success Atlanta honoree.
“It’s important to get involved in third-party organizations to expand your knowledge and network,” she says. “I firmly believe that to whom much is given, much is expected. That’s why I volunteer, mentor younger colleagues and donate both time and money to nonprofits and foundations that I believe are truly making a daily difference. I invest in the fortune of others, especially women and children.”

Victoria Dune-Chari works diligently to ensure the systems of Wellstar are efficient and provide high-quality care for each patient. She has led two hospitals to achieve the Governor’s Sterling Award and the Georgia Oglethorpe Award, and her scope of experience includes Ancillary & Support Services; Site Lean Transformational Excellence; Logistics and Patient Planning; Service Excellence and Emergency Management; and acting as Wellstar’s System Clinical Operations Liaison.
“I have helped health care teams improve performance to achieve top decile patient experience and top decile team member engagement, and I’ve led multiple high-dollar capital projects that improved access for those we serve,” she says.
Victoria owes much of her success to her mother, Yedzai Ruwadzano Dune, whose story continues to inspire her. When Yedzai passed away at 57 years of age after a six-year battle with end stage renal disease, Victoria was humbled by meeting the many people her mother had touched. “She believed in helping people help themselves. She was an educator, starting her career as an elementary school teacher and ending as the principal at a school for children with disabilities,” Victoria says. “My mother made sure my sisters and I understood that a woman must be able to stand on her own two feet — and she emphasized the importance of a good education.”
A woman of strong Christian faith, Victoria believes she is in the right role – taking care of others is the brand promise of Wellstar, and she feels passionately about their mission. “We believe in personalized care that values every person as an individual,” she notes. “I have two sons, and their preferences when they see the doctor are different — what is most important is that they receive care tailored to their needs at Wellstar.”
Those inspired by Victoria are in luck; she loves to encourage those interested in a career in health care. “I love that my career connects me to a clear purpose,” she remarks. “I’m always excited about the opportunity to talk to an early careerist because of the many different career trajectories available. I began as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, working with radio-pharmaceuticals, and now I work with all Wellstar facilities on Quality, Safety and Operational Excellence initiatives.”

Savoring Flavors of Spring
GEORGIA FOOD + WINE FESTIVAL WAS A GREAT TIME FOR ALL
ARTICLE BY DENISE K. JAMES
It was a sunny Saturday in early spring, and I was thrilled to be attending the Georgia Food + Wine Festival’s “Savor” event at Jim R. Miller Park, one of the many events of the action-packed weekend and presented by Georgia Grown. The sky was a bright blue as I stepped up to the tent to claim my 10 culinary tokens and a commemorative wine glass etched with the words “Georgia Food + Wine Festival” in a flourish. The park was a sea of colorful tents and people dressed in their seasonal best, all looking forward to the food, cocktails, wines and wares.
It’s hard to select the standouts from the day. I sampled a lot of delicious food and probably even more beverages. However, my friend Lea and I found ourselves repeatedly coming back to the St. Royale Vodka tent, requesting their refreshing cocktails and, believe it or not, sipping their oh-so-smooth spirits neat! Try the green tea variety; it’s perfect for sipping in the summer, and you won’t need a mixer. I also loved the gin from Silent Pool Distillery — and their tasty concoction, "The Chelsea Flower."
Choosing what to nosh on was difficult — but we managed. Rodney Scott’s Atlanta location was definitely a pull – and since I’m from South Carolina, we had a spirited discussion about the original version in Hemingway. Then, we LOVED the mac ‘n’ cheese from Forks and Flavors, baked on top and just gooey enough. Finally, I scored a slice of pound cake from Hardy Bakery & Catering. I was full at the time, but it was delicious with the next morning’s coffee, still fluffy and moist, plus not too sweet.
As for the wares that day, well, I couldn’t help myself and bought a sparkly bauble from Fabulina Designs. Between the wine glass and my snazzy quartz ring, I was looking at my hand for the rest of the afternoon — while counting down the months until the next Georgia Food + Wine Festival, of course.

friendliness, the hometown feel and the Southern values of faith, family and football (well maybe not football) has always appealed to me. One of the proudest moments of my life was when I was crowned Miss Georgia and went on to represent my state in the Miss America pageant. I was excited to share my love for George in front of a national audience. It’s been a true honor to use my platform to elevate the great state of Georgia.
YOU’VE SAID YOUR CALLING IN LIFE IS TO BUILD UP WOMEN. WE LOVE THAT!
KG: Yes, that’s how I’ve always seen Belle Beauty: as a way to help build up women by helping them feel beautiful. Because every woman IS beautiful, even if they don’t always feel it. That’s why it’s so important to have the right clothes and makeup that support you and your specific, unique style. Those are the things that can make all the difference in the world. In addition, one of my great passions in life has been the beauty industry. From competing in beauty pageants to hosting a Lifetime reality TV show helping girls compete in pageants to working in some of the top-name beauty brands, beauty has been a constant in my life.
