In this issue, find out how you can reboot and recharge while connecting to the earth, riding horses, and awakening your senses with a variety of adventures at Ranchlands Stays. So much change can happen in a year, so as we plan our future and commit to resolutions, we also leave some room to change our minds—to grow and be human. After all, part of the thrill is enjoying where the journey takes us. Here at Highlands Ranch/Lone Tree Lifestyle, we are so proud of the growth in our community through the last year and cannot wait to see what is coming for 2020.

BETWEEN BEING A BUSY MOM, WIFE, BUSINESS OWNER AND VOLUNTEER, SOMETIMES I’M INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL I DESIGNED MY BATHROOM AS A ‘SERENE MINI GETAWAY-SCAPE’. Here are some tips to create your place of solace and self-care. IT’S YOUR CANVAS Instead of worrying what will be ‘in’ or ‘out’ in the next few years, design it your way. It’s your space. You will spend countless hours there and you will write the check for it too. Some designers will want to lay down ‘rules’ but the truth is you live with it, so if you like a few different textures, colors or materials that may not be ‘standard’ or ‘match’- hey do it ! If you feel serene in your space that is what matters most! 14

Partnering together to keep you healthy. ESTABLISH THE LOOK Consider the flooring, walls, counters, bathtub and shower as your main building blocks. Do you want the vibe of earth tones like a mountain retreat? A traditional Victorian tub and a brick flashback in time? Or are you looking for a clean, bright, modern ‘spa’ hue? DELINEATE THE SPACE If you have a large space, create different areas for yourself. Delineate one area as the sitting/sipping coffee as the sun rises near the window. Make the cozy fireplace area for wine and winding down after a long day with a good book. You can define your space with different patterns in how your tile is laid or a transition in flooring type. Maybe you keep waterproof tiles near the wet areas, but opt for hardwood in the sitting areas. If you have a small space, do your material selections make the area look larger and less cramped? Longer horizontal tiles can make a smaller room look wider by drawing the eye left or right in long waves. Too many small mosaic or subway tiles can make it feel cluttered and full. THE CHERRIES ON TOP You’ve set the backdrop, now it’s time to move in. Here are some relaxing extras: + Bathrobe and slippers.
Not only are we close to home, we offer primary care to keep you healthier for a lifetime. From women’s services and regular physicals to screenings of all kinds and more, you can count on us for wellness, no matter what part of life’s journey you’re on.

F loat i n g i n to the New Year WENDY SKAALERUD IS THE OWNER OF INNGI FLOAT SPA IN HIGHLANDS RANCH, ALONG WITH HER HUSBAND, ERIK. They also own Capital Lending Solutions. Wendy and Erik were co-owners and operating mangers of seven Orangetheory Fitness studios in the Colorado region. She participates in multiple philanthropic ventures including her own Give Well Foundation. WHAT IS YOUR OWN HEALTH AND WELLNESS JOURNEY THAT BROUGHT YOU TO OPENING INNGI FLOAT SPA? I have always been an entrepreneur. When I was in my 20’s, I opened multiple restaurants. While I learned a great deal, including getting a PhD in Customer Service, I never felt a connection to living a healthy lifestyle. I personally did not take the time to eat, sleep, work out or meditate in a way that supported a strong and sustainable body and mind. At a particularly low point, I realized if I did not make my physical and mental health a priority, I would never thrive. Once married, my husband and I decided to be intentional about the businesses we created, how they impacted our health and more importantly how they supported the health of our community. We opened a small business lending company, Capital Lending Solutions. We were driven to help other entrepreneurs realize their dreams while creating thousands of job opportunities as a by-product. Through CLS we were exposed to an unknown concept called Orangetheory Fitness. We were blown away at the concept. The idea of bringing a workout that provided results to the masses was beyond our dreams. We opened the third studio in the country and developed a region of 30 studios in Colorado before selling in August of 2018. Post-sale, we found ourselves searching for other concepts that would provide wellness to our community. And we came upon Inngi. WHAT ARE SOME TIPS FOR HEALTH + WELLNESS GEARED TOWARD CREATING NEW DAILY PRACTICES IN THE NEW YEAR? As a society, we have become completely overstimulated. This creates a sense of disconnect with other humans, a sense of anxiety, a desensitization to the value of human interaction, a feeling of isolation and loneliness, and a physical and mental overload that does not support our growth, connection and overall happiness. A couple of suggestions:

Ranchlands Stays is the hospitality program that includes special weeklong workshops and clinics at both properties. You’ll find painting workshops with acclaimed artist Jill Soukup, and horsemanship clinics from famed cowboy Cam Schryver. There’s photography, hiking, birding and leather making. And if you want your family to get their hands dirty on an old-school cowboy adventure, there’s a stay for that as well. “A stay on either ranch is an incredible insight into these big landscapes. You get to feel, ride, hike, smell, touch, experience these very, very special places,” Kate says. “I think that’s the thing people walk away with is the privilege of being able to have done that.” Most stays include tent camps complete with hot showers, beds, a cook and chef-prepared meals. At the Zapata, where you can book a customized stay to include horseback rides in the Great Sand Dunes or among the huge wild bison herd, you’ll find the dark night skies that have been designated as an International Dark Sky Park, and catch a glimpse of the abundant wildlife including elk, coyotes, birds of prey, porcupines and antelope. “There’s also a really amazing ranch-to-table food program,” Kate says. The Chico Basin Ranch offers a more rustic experience, where you’ll find yourself part of the work crew rounding up horses and working cattle, making your own breakfasts and sack lunches to eat on the trail, and joining the crew in their homes for dinner. “It’s the more working ranch experience,” Kate says. A stay at one of the Ranchlands properties is an educational outdoor experience unlike any other.

“It really ticks all the boxes,” Kate says. “It’s about trying new things with your friends or family, and all of you learning at the same time. It’s an incredible bonding experience.” Kate says one of the first things most guests notice is the quiet and dark, a reward for the hyper-connected modern American. Zapata and Chico offer great American landscapes — from the highest mountain peaks to the wide-open prairie plains — that are constantly evolving. “It’s a living, breathing, moving, changing place of incredible beauty.” MORE ABOUT RANCHLANDS Ranchlands is a conservation-focused ranch management company that runs fullscale cattle operations on five ranches in three states. Ranchlands offers guest stays and special week-long workshops at the Zapata Ranch, a 103,000-acre ranch owned by The Nature Conservancy in the San Luis Valley; as well as the Chico Basin Ranch, an 87,000-acre ranch southeast of Colorado Springs owned by the Colorado State Land Board. Ranchlands also hosts thousands of school children each year on field trips; the Ranchlands Annual Art Show at The Nature Conservancy in Denver; and a concert each summer on the Chico that draws about 450 people.
