ARE YOU HUNGRY, CROSS TIMBERS LIFESTYLE READERS? We’re sure you will be when you read—or should we say devour—this issue, the most drool-worthy one of the year: the Foodie issue! While we don’t like to play favorites, the Foodie issue is near and dear to our hearts. After all, food is not only nourishing (and delicious) but it also brings people together—whether it’s a special anniversary dinner, a casual weeknight meal with family or a festive outing with friends or coworkers. We had great fun highlighting Flower Mound resident Kalee Wulfer’s Grapevine Food Tour, where the food was amazing, the tour operator was interesting and informative and the pace was perfect. All in all, a most delightful and unique way to spend an afternoon with friends or coworkers if you have a hip boss. We are already planning our next tour! In Open House, we look inside local interior designer Kristy Mastrandonas’ own kitchen redesign. Color us impressed with her tips to create an efficient and timeless kitchen that serves as the perfect backdrop to every season and occasion.

veined Vermont Danby White Mountain honed marble countertops and a polished Carrera marble backsplash in a mix of white, gray and beige. Kristy chose antique brass for all of the hardware. The faucet, pot filler, pulls and knobs all incorporate the classic finish. And, after a bit of elbow grease, the lanterns do, as well. “The lanterns above the island were originally a bright metallic gold finish,” Kristy says. “I wanted them to be more subdued so they’d coordinate better with the other antique brass finishes in here, so I took my handy dandy paintbrush and some craft paint and changed the finish,” she says. “It was so easy to do!” In addition to changing the style of the kitchen, Kristy increased its functionality, most notably by changing the location of the pantry and replacing the existing two islands with one large island. She says her new kitchen is exactly what she had dreamed of for the past 12 years. “The layout is so much more functional for the way we live, and it makes the kitchen feel larger. We are so pleased with the outcome.”

GRAPEVINE FOOD TOUR OFFERS UNIQUE CULINARY EXPERIENCES IN HISTORIC DOWNTOWN GRAPEVINE

Looking for the perfect place
TO ESCAPE TO THIS WEEKEND TO SAMPLE DELICIOUS FOOD AND FINE WINE IN THE COMPANY OF GREAT FRIENDS? The answer is closer than you think. Join the Grapevine Food Tour for a unique culinary experience—and learn a few things about the historic town, as well. Grapevine Food Tour offers three types of tours: the Original Food, Wine & History Tour; the Wine & Chocolate Happy Hour Tour; and the newly launched Beer, Bites & History Tour. All are walking tours along historic Main Street in Grapevine. “Each tour visits several locally owned restaurants, winery tasting rooms and specialty shops, and on our Original Food, Wine & History Tour, we talk about Grapevine’s rich history, culture and architecture between tastings,” says Kalee Wulfers, owner and lead guide of the Grapevine Food Tour. Two to 10 people ages 21 and older may participate in the tours. “It is important for me to keep it as a small group tour because my goal with Grapevine Food Tour is not just to take people around to taste food and wine, but to create an intimate experience where our guests can connect with one another and enjoy great conversations along the way.” Kalee created Grapevine Food Tour after being a food guide in Sonoma, California, when she and her husband lived there in 2018. “When we moved back to Texas, I knew it was exactly what Grapevine was missing. We have so much deep history in Grapevine and fantastic restaurants and specialty shops, that I knew Grapevine would be a perfect spot to bring all of that together and share with not only tourists who visit Grapevine, but for locals, as well.” Kalee says the tours are ideal for couples, groups of friends or even those wishing to venture out on their own and make new friends. “We also encourage small businesses to use

our tours as team building for their staff,” she says. “Our tours are a way for friends and family and strangers on tour, who quickly become friends, to create fun memories together. Food and drink bring people together naturally, but with the small group intimacy that our tour provides, it makes the experience extra special.” The restaurants on the tour allow Grapevine Food Tour to bring in as many as 10 guests on each tour. “They have the tables pre-set and offer five-star service,” Kalee says. “My guests often say they feel like a VIP on tour because the experience is so seamless. I very much appreciate each and every one of our tour partners. We could not have a successful tour without these wonderful restaurants, winery tasting rooms and specialty shops, and so we are extremely thankful for them.”
