APRIL 2016

We have a busy month, and know you do, too.

The warmer weather means we will be cycling, running, paddling, skating, hiking and walking more outdoors along our favorite rivers and routes. Need inspiration? Hit up one of the gyms Alexa Lampasona reviewed. She tells us about cool programs and classes that will provide plenty of variety. No excuses now. Feel fit from head to toe and dip into a nearby spa for a facial...or more! Valerie Shepherd's story on being smart about facials and facelifts will give you confidence as you book a treatment. Then, when you are looking and feeling your best, grab a plus-one and a fancy hat, gown or tux and support one of our favorite charities.

Lifestyle Publications is proud to be sponsoring two very important events this month. The 51st running of the Atlanta Steeplechase will benefit Bert's Big Adventure and tickets are still available for the April 23 party. Bert's Big Adventure is a nonprofit that provides a magical, all-expenses-paid, five-day journey to Walt Disney World® for children between the ages of 5 and 12 with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families. Talk about magic! We hope to see you there and will be strolling through the party tent and around the steeplechase course looking for our favorite hat. Wear yours and we'll snap your photo for our Good Times pages! Then, on April 30, we'll gather at the Delta Flight Museum to celebrate survivors, fighters and their families at the American Cancer Society Hope Ball, honoring our friend Jeff Wigbels, who battled and beat stage four non-smokers lung cancer. You can win tickets to join us at the sponsors table by going to our Web site and entering, then follow the link to donate what you can to support research, education and support for people fighting cancer right here in your Atlanta community. Read about Jeff's persistence and targeted cancer treatment on page 18.

Tenacity and Resourcefulness Make Hope Award Winner ARTICLE SUE G. COLLINS | PHOTOGRAPHY CHRISTY LEE

J

eff Wigbels is a long time surfer, triathlete, marathon runner, golfer and skier. He never played football. Yet when he refers to one of the most important persons in his life, he calls Dr. Roy S. Herbst, his “quarterback.” It was this energetic quarterback who led the powerful offense on Jeff’s battle against stage four non-smoker lung cancer, making accurate and aggressive calls and staying mobile with his thinking to meet the fierce cancer’s every malignant maneuver. Nine years ago, while he and his wife Tiffany welcomed their second child, another doctor told Jeff he had a lung tumor the size of a baseball. He had never smoked. He faced death twice, but never lost sight of the goal, charging toward good health with intense optimism, vehement strength and ardent support from friends, colleagues and family. Dr. Herbst and the team called in pharmaceutical powerhouse players and thanks to the success of a trial drug (now FDA approved), and targeted therapies, Jeff has been cancer free since. He and Tiffany and their kids, Jack and Ava, live in Buckhead and he is senior vice president at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management and the recipient of the American Cancer Society’s 2016 Hope Award at the annual Hope Ball later this month. “When thinking of who our honoree would be for the 2016 Hope Ball, we wanted to connect the mission of the American Cancer Society, the passion found within those that want to make a difference in the fight, and a story that inspires and brings hope to the future. Let's just say we hit the lottery when we asked Jeff and his family if they would allow us to honor him with this award.” says Shari Henning, executive vice president and south Atlantic division operating officer for the ACS. His story is miraculous, but the wonder and work continue. 18

PerimeterNorthLifestyle.com | April 2016

The power of Jeff’s determination and close network of influential doctors and important researchers he met during his treatment and recovery has empowered him to help hundreds of other cancer patients - friends, friends of friends, colleagues, cousins of colleagues and more. “I can talk to them about the process, about going to places like Yale, Mass General, MD Anderson and others, what questions to ask to find out exactly what sort of cancer they have and how to attack it,” says Jeff. Together with the world’s top lung cancer researchers, hospitals, clinics and physicians, as a patient advocate Jeff is pushing trials and education for targeted therapy as an option to standard care. This is individualized and aggressive care to fight cancer. “We’re one of more than a dozen Dream Teams launched by Stand Up 2 Cancer and The American Cancer Society and funded by individuals or collaboration, innovation, acceleration, targeted therapy, and translational research,” explains Jeff. He’s passionate about this. And, about everything in his life. Always has been. He’s served on numerous boards (locally for the High Museum and Atlanta Ballet); lectured at his alma mater, Penn State University Graduate School of Business (he’s a member of the Wharton Alumni Club here); and launched foundations for veterans, athletes and lung cancer research all while managing a very successful career in Wealth Asset Management with Morgan Stanley where he’s been for 33 years. It’s for this tenacity and dedication to lung cancer research that Jeff Wigbels is being honored by the American Cancer Society. “Jeff’s dedication to both fundraising to find a cure as well as his compassion to help others who have heard those same words — ‘You have cancer’ — fit all too perfectly into the night we have planned to celebrate and honor him, Tiffany, Ava and Jack,” says Henning.

Everything You Wanted to Know About Facelifts, But Were Afraid to Ask ARTICLE VALERIE SHEPHERD | PHOTOGAPHY PROVIDED

P

roudly, like most women in their prime {notice I didn’t list my age but it rhymes with mourtythree}, I am no longer afraid to ask for needs or wants - from directions to an extra slice of cake. However, when it comes to skin care, I find myself burying my head in the sand. I’m intimidated by what is available as well as the cost and the ever-changing technology and science behind the subject. I decided to face reality and ask some pointed questions. Aesthetic & Plastic Center of Atlanta, London Med Spa, Atlanta Face and Body Center, Lux Med Spa and Oculus Cosmetic have come to the rescue. (You’re welcome!)

DAILY CREAMS AND SCRUBS

A daily face care regime should include gentle cleansing, toning, moisturizing both morning and night, and SPF. Dr. Larsen at Lux Med Spa highly suggests medical grade skin products to get quality results because they can penetrate into deeper layers of skin where collagen is, and where skin problems start. London Med Spa advises us to stay away from products with large amount of filler, petroleum, waxes, and even heavy scents claiming quality ingredients are key to seeing desired results. Stacie Clark at Oculus revealed that the left side of our faces are under attack more, since we spend so much time in the car. Beware and be ready with Reision Skincare Intellishade Original SPF 45 sunscreen, a tinted moisturizer with anti-aging properties. Dr. Walker and Dr. O’Neil at Aesthetic & Plastic Surgery wisely reveal, “For both day and evening (skin care), think hydration, because the skin depends on water to be present for healing and balance.” Look for humectants, “A magic bullet for the skin’s ultimate health.” Humectant acts as a skin barrier to help dry skin, acts as an exfoliant, and helps acne prone skin by fixing a broken moisturizing barrier. Dr. Whitaker at Atlanta Face & Body reminds us, “As your body chemistry changes, so do your skin care needs. What your regime was two years ago might not be what your regime should be today.” FACIALS, PEELS AND TREATMENTS

When you want to glow, talk to your aesthetician. Be specific about your goal. Is your goal to refine your appearance or skin correction? London Med Spa reminds us as the seasons change, so do our skincare needs. Microdermabrasion and more aggressive peels should only be done as needed, and not during peak sun months. Luckily for me, Lux Med Spa suggested I try one of their MicroPeels. My aesthetician Denise analyzed my skin and customized the treatment. My skin is still glowing many days after. Next time I will try the impressive Infini by Lutronic® facial rejuvenation treatment. I’ve heard it has amazing results! Budget: $90 - $225 six to 12 times a year (series or packages offer discounts) 20

There is a palate of fillers working miracles like: Botox, Juvaderm, Voluma, Restylane and Sculptra. Facial anatomy and aging are better understood than ever before at Aesthetic & Plastic Center. Back in the day the emphasis was on pulling and tightening, whereas today the focus is on augmentation and volumizing. These products, according to Dr. Larsen at Lux are so popular because they offer instant results. The docs at London Med Spa add, “Over the past few years, we’ve been able to do with fillers what was once only possible with aggressive procedures.” Dr. Chip Cole at Oculus is the author of "Face Changes" where 12 non-surgical and 12 surgical solutions are immediately listed. He also offers tips for guys and shares nutrition guidance before you bring out the big guns. Check out Kybella, (injections for contouring the unwanted double chin), Ultherapy (non-surgical skin tightening and lifting), and CoolSculpting (sculpting and contouring). Sign me up for all three!! Dr. Whitaker at Atlanta Face & Body also sings praises for Radiofrequency Skin Tightening, “Protégé and Exilis provide safe and effective facial contouring and skin tightening with no downtime” as well as Pelleve – which she referrs to as the “Cinderella” treatment for a big night out. The staff at Aesthetic & Plastic Center is especially excited about the results they seen in Micro Needling (skin needling), which is a minimally invasive treatment to promote skin renewal by the body forming new tissue and releasing growth factors that promote healing and scar repair. Budget: Fillers $500 - $1,000 per syringe, Non-Surgical $1,000 - $3,500 a treatment 411 ON SURGICAL OPTIONS

Surgical options seem vast and range from: lipo-suction, fat transfers, eyelid surgery, neck lift, brow lift, midface lift, to face lift. The biggest benefit of a surgical option put plainly is longevity. Where as non-surgical procedures only last 3 months to a couple of years, surgical options generally last for 10 – 15 years before needing an update. Most recovery time is somewhere between 2-3 weeks to get back to life as you know it and about 4-12 weeks to see your full results in all their glory. All suggest

WHAT’S

SUP

WITH

HEATHER

FROGGE

ARTICLE SUE G. COLLINS | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

W

hen I did one of my first standup paddle board races two years ago, The Toona Challenge, I remember watching an adorable and athletic Heather Frogge paddle past me (quickly), smiling all the way to her first place finish. She loves this relatively new sport, and it shows with every stroke on her SUP. Heather works in Sandy Springs and paddles regularly, hitting the racing circuit and encouraging newcomers to try the sport. I caught up with Heather and drilled her about why spending time on her SUP makes her so happy. SGC: WHEN DID YOU DISCOVER YOUR LOVE OF THE SUP?

HF: I tried a board the first time on vacation in 2010, then my dad called to say COSTCO was selling paddleboards. Yes, my first board was a cheap inflatable from Costco in April 2011. Inflatables have come a long way since then! The first time I ever paddled with anyone, I discovered my paddle was backwards. Next I ordered my Surftech Generator 11’6 surf style board and my world changed! I’m pretty vain about my boards now (right down to matching outfits to boards). SGC: WHEN DID THE RACE BUG BITE?

HF: I did my first race on Cinco de Mayo in 2012. I didn’t know anyone, I didn’t know how to steer, and I didn’t know about the different classes. I passed out after the race. Then, I started paddling almost every day at Lake Tobosofkee in Macon until I moved to Atlanta. I chose to live close to the Chattahoochee River and within a decent drive to Lake Lanier. I started to get in shape and get pretty good throughout 2013. I upgraded to my Candice Appleby Surftech BARK 12’6 race board in May 2013 and went from back of the pack to close to winning races! I did Chattajack in 2013 - 31+ miles through the Tennessee River Gorge. I’ve done Chattajack three times now, each year with a different board and a different goal. I upgraded to a custom race board in 2014 and I dropped 31 minutes. I have learned something at every race I’ve been to. I’ve done the Standup for the Hooch race by High Country Outfitters each year since I moved to Atlanta. I came in behind Kim Hillhouse for second place in 2014. I raced

22

PerimeterNorthLifestyle.com | April 2016

the Toona Challenge on Lake Allatoona in 2013 and 2014. Last year I started my switch from SUP to Prone; this doesn’t really give me much local competition because most people don’t even know what Prone is – I just want people to see it! SGC: CAN YOU SUGGEST A GOOD BOARD FOR A BEGINNER?

HF: If you want to just paddle around and enjoy the water with kids, you should go surf style. If you want to shoot for distance or ease paddling in rougher waters, go with a race or touring board. Demo, Demo, Demo! YOLO and BOTE makes some really pretty surf style boards. Naish makes some super fun and maneuverable Surf Style Boards. Surftech is a great company that has been around forever; for the recreational paddler, you can get a Bamboo Board but you won’t get decorative sea turtles or camo on their boards. SUP has really gotten popular in the past three years; go to your local sporting goods stores and ask someone. Also, Distressed Mullet is good website to check out. SGC: WHERE DO YOU TAKE YOUR BOARD FOR A QUICK PADDLE IF YOU ONLY HAVE A FEW HOURS?

I will typically launch from Azalea Park and either paddle upstream to 400 or downstream to Morgan Falls. I like to paddle out from Mary Alice Park at Lake Lanier and depending on weather, if it’s getting dark or boat traffic, head out towards the Dam. SGC: WHAT KIND OF CONDITIONING HELPS WITH YOUR PADDLING?

I try to toss in hiking, indoor rock climbing, ice skating, swimming, and weights when I can’t paddle. Swimming is one of the best all-around workouts and the movements are similar to my Prone paddling. For Distance racing, I really need to build up strength so gym workouts are a must. Check out this site for all things SUP in our region, SouthernStokeRace.com.

FROM CYCLE BAR TO BARBELLS 3 Gyms to Try This Spring ARTICLE ALEXA LAMPASONA | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

Y

ou know that feeling after a good workout, where you feel invincible and don’t even care how much you sweat? These gyms give you those feel-good endorphins, along with top-notch classes that kick your butt, and perks like themed classes, free snacks and more. Here’s the scoop on three of OTP’s top gyms. CONCOURSE ATHLETIC CLUB

Concourse Athletic Club is just as much gym as it is a lifestyle club. At more than 85,000 square feet, it is one of the largest athletic clubs “OTP” and includes a pool and tennis courts. Perks: Sports or Recovery Massages are great for after a hard workout. The athletic club has its own “Courtside Restaurant & Cafe” that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a menu ranging from post-workout smoothies to dinnertime burgers and lemon pepper wings. Programs: There is a program for everyone at Concourse, where more than 80 instructors and 20 personal trainers specialize in anything ranging from Insanity bootcamp to spin to yoga. Take advantage of the pool at Master’s Swim, which features drills, clinics, and triathlon training, great for former swimmers or those looking to amp up their triathlon swimming. The Kettleworx kettlebell class works the entire Concourse

body and mixes in interval and cardio training. The Lateral Elliptical. Most elliptical machines move in a forward motion, but this stationary machine is lateral, promoting the use of hip abductor and adductor muscles-similar to ice skating or skiing but without falling. Pops: Concourse Athletic Club’s social element is unlike many standard gyms. Members have formed “clubs within the club.” Each department of the athletic club has themes most nights of the week, like for instance, on Wednesdays after your workout gather for appetizer specials and half-off drinks. Particulars: 8 Concourse Parkway, Wellbridge.com/concourse-athletic-club/sandy-springs 770.698.2000 CYCLEBAR

CycleBar Dunwoody opens in May, and offers a high energy workout in a concert-like atmosphere. The 50-minute high energy classes are dynamic and take place in the CycleTheatre, which offers stadium-style tiers for 50 bikes plus LED lighting, wide-screen graphics and stateof-the-art audio with a DJ booth. Perks: Concierge service and luxury amenities include free towels, filtered water stations, showers, secure lockers with USB charging ports, and shoes. After class, the gym offers fruit and flavored water along with aromatherapy to encourage relaxation. Programs: There are four types of CycleBar classes: Classic, Performance, Connect and Theme. Classic is the most popular and offers a perfectly choreographed mix of upper body work, hills and drills—and an intoxicating fusion of mind, body and music. Theme classes offer fun twists on music during rides, like DJ Rides, Mashup Monday, Throwback Thursday, Happy Hour, Brunch, and Concert-style.

Pops: The Connect class combines the rigor of indoor cycling with the discipline of yoga. Enhanced lighting and soulful CycleBeats transform the CycleTheatre into the perfect place to revive and restore. An added benefit, all CycleBar riders also have access to class music for their own use. Particulars: 4794 Ashford Dunwoody Road Dunwoody.Cyclebar.com 770.580.4989 KNUCKLEUP FITNESS

Since 1999, KnuckleUp has expanded to four locations, with its newest opening a 13,000-square-foot facility in Sandy Springs. The alternative fitness gym is centered around combat training: kickboxing, mixed martial arts, Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. Perks: Consider this your fight club with a regulation-sized boxing ring, more than 1,000 square feet of grappling mat, weighted boxing bags, speed bags, double-end bags and uppercut bags. Traditional gym equipment is also available including cardio and weight machines and free weights. The gym sells martial arts training equipment, exercise drinks such as protein and recovery drinks and KnuckleUp branded apparel Programs: Start out with a fitness kickboxing class, where you’ll build cardiovascular and resistance training by practicing combinations on a 200-pound bag. As you become comfortable, try out some of the other martial arts classes like Muay Thai, a combat workout that focuses on striking with fists, elbows, knees and feet; or Jiu Jitsu, a form of ground fighting and grappling. Pops:KnuckleUp’s 40-plus trainers are accomplished in martial arts and hold fitness certifications. Many have been in the ring, and are accomplished, award-winning fighters, such as the lead Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor and eight degree black belt Master Ricardo Murgel and Moe Travis, a 5 time World Champion Muay Thai competitor. Teaching All Ages to Be

Responsible Guardians ARTICLE DOUG KUNIANSKY

A

of The Earth

s we celebrate Earth Day, our thoughts naturally turn to the environment and what we can do to protect and preserve it. At the MJCCA, we live the Jewish value of ‘Shomrei Adamah,’ to be Guardians of the Earth, and we are always looking for opportunities to inspire, teach, and encourage participants of all ages to be responsible stewards of the environment. We have joined forces with Trees Atlanta on several ongoing initiatives, marking the first time Trees Atlanta has worked with an organization outside Atlanta’s perimeter. In February, Trees Atlanta held a Family Tree Planting Day for students in our after-school program, Club J, and as a community service project for teens. Together we planted 21 trees of various varieties on our Zaban Park Campus. Trees Atlanta is also conducting educational programs at the MJCCA to teach children and teens about the various tree species on our campus and how to care for them. In addition, as a part of J-Serve, the International Day of Jewish Youth Service in March, our Teen Department helped Trees Atlanta with landscaping projects along the Atlanta BeltLine. We are also teaching the youngest members of our community to have an early respect for the earth. Students at The Sunshine School, the MJCCA’s preschool in East Cobb, are enjoying the fruits and the veggies of their labor through an edible organic gardening program where they help plant, water, and harvest what is grown. Classroom 26

PerimeterNorthLifestyle.com | April 2016

lessons correspond with what the children are doing in the garden, so they can learn things in a real, hand’s on way. The preschoolers not only get the chance to learn about and grow vegetables, herbs, flowers, and fruit, they get to taste the fruits of their labor and many are learning an early appreciation for healthy foods. And, as guardians of the earth, they are learning how compost is used to enrich the soil by putting food scraps and yard waste into compost bins. The gardens get a green thumbs up from parents, who are thrilled with the enthusiasm many of the preschoolers are bringing home for healthy foods. One parent even brags that after trying okra from the school's vegetable garden, her son apparently now asks for okra as a snack. If we can teach children to appreciate the earth and ask for okra as a snack, there’s no limit to the good we can do! Our responsibility to the environment extends across the agency. A matching grant from The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta’s Grants to Green initiative, which we received last May, is helping to support the MJCCA’s sustainability efforts. These funds are enabling us to improve our overall environmental impact, increase operational cost efficiencies, and provide a healthy environment for employees, members, and guests. Doug is the chairman of the Board of Directors at the MJCCA. AtlantaJCC.org

The Land Rover LR4 HSE LUX luxuriously rugged ARTICLE DENNIS MALCOLM BYRON PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

T

he Land Rover brand has consistently been applauded for their meticulous attention to detail, practicality, and most importantly pampering their motorists regardless of the road—and off-road—conditions. The 2016 LR4 HSE LUX effortlessly maintains the company’s stellar reputation. Initially, the standard amenities of the LR4 are generous including the 3.0 liter, 340-horsepower, supercharged V6 heart;

Intelligent Stop/Start; rear view camera; front and rear parking aids; dual-zone climate control; theater-esque 825-watt Meridian audio system; stargazing-friendly extended alpine roof; and cozy Windsor leather interior comfortably seating up to seven passengers to name a few. And the true advantage of the LR4 is its ability to take on the most unfavorable driving conditions thanks to driving enhancements including independent front and rear air suspension, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Hill Descent Control, and the Terrain Response System. However, the LUX, Heavy Duty and Tow packages will further enthrall the driving experience and extend its driving capabilities. And to complement the LR4’s sexy exterior, our review model boasted the Black Design Package dressed in black 20-inch alloy wheels, a tastefully intimidating grille, side vents, mirror caps, Land Rover’s signature hood lettering, and extended roof rails which collectively made the Fuji White exterior brilliantly pop.

The standout detraction is the fuel economy, which is a combined 16 miles per gallon (15 city and 19 highway) primarily due to its weighty embellishments, but this tends to not scare away the adventurous who desire extravagance, safety, and the confidence to take on virtually any physical challenge Mother Nature presents. All in all, the prospective buyer has the convenience to customize the vehicle of their choice by selecting from the numerous packages available with a base price starting at $50,400. Regardless of the combination, the driver will be equipped to not live a little, but live a lot. BASE PRICE: $50,400 Review model with all options and fees including HSE Lux Package, the Heavy Duty Package, Sirius Radio, InControl Apps, Tow Package, and Black Design Package: $67,275 plus destination and delivery ($995w), totaling $68,270. ith an hour to go before my first class at The Swag’s cooking school, I grabbed one of the chilled water bottles thoughtfully set out for resort guests and walked 10 feet through an opening in the split rail fence to a Great Smoky Mountain National Park trail. Jake Osburn, the chipper sous chef serving the hearty and healthy breakfast that morning, suggested I head to Hemphill Bald, climbing up a few hundred feet over a mile or so. The well-marked trail was quiet and I pressed ahead hoping to catch a glimpse of the Cataloochee Valley below. I arrived the night before in the dark and that morning when I walked from my private

cabin to the lodge (elev. 5,000 ft.), the valley below was lined with a carpet of puffy white clouds. So, as I set off on my hike, I really had no idea where I was. To be clear, I did know I had arrived at The Swag resort after a quick, three-hour drive from Atlanta and that the luxurious country inn was set on 250 acres in near, Waynesville, NC. What I didn’t realize, until I reached the Bald, was that I was at the top of the world. The view at the top took away what little breath I had left. The morning clouds had lifted and the valley spread out below, thin threads of country roads and trails and the Caldwell Ford creek winding through the green hills dotted with plumes of smoke from cabins far below. I startled a rafter of wild turkeys (with two weeks until Thanksgiving, they were plump but fast) and they took flight into the valley. With only 15 minutes to get back to The Swag, I jogged down the winding trail

After the entertaining morning cooking class, I grabbed my back pack and followed the week’s event leader Kathy Peters along a more challenging trail leading to a quiet waterfall past the pond and badminton court. We enjoyed a memorable meal somewhere along the way, then learned to sear duck breasts to perfection in the afternoon cooking class, leaving me time for a soak in the outdoor hot tub and a nap before a lovely dinner. Local's Choice LIFESTYLE PUBLICATIONS’ STAFF’S

FITNESS FAVORITES What makes your workout easier and your day dreamier? Here are a few of our favorite picks to make the workout smoother and the day more fun. COMPILED BY SUE G. COLLINS

1 2 3

6 // REEBOK CROSSFIT NANO 5.0 These are my go-to shoes for all workouts, unless it’s strictly running (yuck). The entire midsole shape in the 5.0 has been re-engineered to fit more precisely and support your foot better during heavy lifts. They are super light and durable. Stable and fine for sprints. $109. --Sue Collins

4 1 // SUGAR FIG

7 // NUTRI NINJA PRO

Sugar Fig Tinted Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 moisturizes, protects and smoothes the lips while leaving a pearlescent wine tint, offering sheer coverage or buildable color. --Karyn Slovin

It’s 900 watts of pure smoothie power. This thing purees frozen fruit in a jiffy, is easy to clean, doesn’t take up a ton of space on the counter and comes with two sizes of blending cups that have travel lids. Boom! I use a cup of frozen mixed berries, a half cup of almond milk, a half cup of kefir and maybe a fresh banana. $99 or so. --Sue Collins

2 // GATORADE SQUEEZE BOTTLE These water bottles are airtight and don’t leak. I use these at hot yoga class and at the gym. Plus, they are 3 for $9.99 at Costco. --Jim Newman 3 // FOAM ROLLERS I love these and use them religiously. Roll your quads, your back or shoulders. I use it to crack my back and roll out kinks and tight spots. Keep one in your living room (roll it out during the morning news) and one in your bedroom (after a hot bath). The unique pattern on these allow the tissue to relax as you roll and promotes the flow of blood and oxygen responsible for carrying nutrients needed to repair muscle. From $39. --Sue Collins 4 // SOL DRY YOGA MAT BY GAIAM Best Mat Ever! I go to hot yoga 5x a week and I never need a towel even in my sweatiest session, and it stays as grippy as when it’s dry! Through some miraculous technology this thing never gets smelly, and with 5mm of cushioning, it’s also soft on your joints. --Darce Richardson 5 // SWANSON GREEN VIBRANT Green Vibrance nutritional shake (powder), gluten free formula with 77 certified organic and concentrated foods and extracts, soy free. I want to make sure I get all my daily nutrients and this powder mixed with a pure fruit juice and crushed ice is my joint! I use a shaker and make a virgin cocktail with it. --Dennis Malcolm Byron

8 // 10’ PHONE CHARGER CABLE 6

Go ahead, you know you need one. In the car, you can pass it to the DJ in the back seat. At home, you can actually leave the phone charging, plugged into the wall socket, while you’re “reading” in bed or working at your desk. $5, cool colors, online or at an office supply. --Valerie Shepherd

9 // JBL REFLECT MINI BT EARBUDS Music motivates me when I run but I got tired of fighting with the earbud chord and finally invested in my in my jogging joy and got this pair of bluetooth buds. It’s made getting going and staying going a lot more simple and fun. Their wireless, lightweight design is not bothersome at all, and the sound quality is decent. $99. --Kendra Mathewson

10 // MATEA FLAT FROM OKA-B SHOES The shoes contain up to 25% recycled material and are waterproof, washable, recyclable, and made in Georgia! The therapeutic principles of reflexology guide the footbed design of the ergonomic footbed. The enhanced massage beads, arch support and sculpted heel cup will pamper your every step. --Sue Collins 11 // LOTUS PANTS BY LUCY These are my go-to pants with a stove pipe leg and modern fit. Moisture wicking and compressive four way stretch fabric make this style irresistible. -- Karyn Slovin
