WHETHER YOU ARE TAKING A DAY TRIP TO A VIRGINIA WINERY, TOURING PARIS, OR ARE A KEYNOTE SPEAKER FOR A CONVENTION IN CLEVELAND, WE’VE GOT YOU COVERED. Partnering with local boutique Ibhana Creations, we created three looks to inspire your style for the next time you travel. Meena Tharmaratnam started Ibhana when, after a divorce, she needed to rejoin the workforce, calling it “a kick in the pants that started a fire.” While she didn’t have a background in business or fashion, she loved art and had developed a great eye. Meena began by importing and selling Indian shawls from her home in 2002, graduating to fashion and trunk shows for the next 10 years. After advice and mentoring found at the Rockville Women’s Business Center, she launched her first location with a pop-up shop in Cleveland Park in 2012. When she opened her shop in Potomac, Meena quickly learned to tailor her inventory to the needs of women in the area. “She travels a lot,” Meena says of the usual customer. “We focus on travel-friendly, wrinkle-free clothing that is easy to care for.”
A fitted denim jacket over a light camisole paired with a bold necklace creates a casual look with polish.
The shop features Canadian and American lines offered by designers such as Joseph Ribkoff, IC, Samuel Dong, Tianello and Papillon Blanc in sizes 2 through 20.

LIVE YOUR STYLE, CREATE YOUR BEAUTIFUL AT OXYGEN SALON & DAY SPA ARTICLE DANIELLE S. TEPPER

WHEN YOU WALK THROUGH THE DOOR AT OXYGEN SALON & DAY SPA ON ROCKVILLE PIKE, YOU REALIZE WHY THE PLACE IS APTLY NAMED—IT’S LIKE A BREATH OF FRESH AIR. Between the hustle and bustle of snipping scissors and spinning chairs and the din of chatter over the drone of blow dryers, it becomes evident while observing the dynamic between the person sitting in the chair and the person standing behind it that the hairdressers are striving to be more than simple stylists. They’re artists. This is exactly the vision salon director Harrod Harnarine says they set out to achieve when owners Sagi and Nazreen opened Oxygen in 2012. “Our mission has always been to facilitate a niche in our industry where we offer an experience to a client that’s custom to who they are,” he says. “It’s not just a cut and color; it’s really crafting a look.” The dream team trio all come from backgrounds that are deeply rooted in fashion. Sagi came to the States in 1992 and continued his education at Goldwell KMS Academy. CONTINUED >

“It took us a few months to figure it out, but we realized that the strength of our business is our staff,” he says. “That’s what sets us apart—we’re elevating people by sharing our knowledge and expertise and giving a helping hand. That’s what makes you feel like you’re working as a team.” Owner Sagi
Nazreen did most of her training in Italy. She hones her craft year-round by attending hair shows around the country. “I treat my clients like friends; I listen to them,” she says. “The beauty of our business is in making people happy.” “She’s like the matriarch of the group," Harrod says of Nazreen. "She makes you feel comfortable right away, and her work is untouchable. She has superior vision and foresight.” Harrod is a Maryland native and former model with advertising and marketing experience, making him an invaluable addition. “The collaboration between us was ideal; I have a background in the business on a larger scale, and they have the technical skills and artistry,” he says. Oxygen stays one step ahead of the competition by researching ever-changing trends while remembering
Owner Nazreen
that some things never change. Taking their clients’ ideas and giving them an end result that helps them realize their own beauty is the goal with every single client. “When someone’s able to truly see their own beauty, that’s something that society doesn’t give to you; it can’t be taken away. It’s yours, it’s individual. As beauty professionals, those are the magic moments—when you know they’re looking in the mirror and loving themselves and trying to remain calm, but they’re going to get to their car and take a million selfies. That’s why we do what we do.”
“WHEN SOMEONE’S ABLE TO TRULY SEE THEIR OWN BEAUTY, THAT’S SOMETHING THAT SOCIETY DOESN’T GIVE TO YOU; IT CAN’T BE TAKEN AWAY. IT’S YOURS, IT’S INDIVIDUAL. 1677

FARE WITH Flair
LOCAL’S CHOICE
LAHINCH TAVERN AND GRILL
ARTICLE DANIELLE S. TEPPER

AT LAHINCH TAVERN AND GRILL, EXECUTIVE CHEF TED HUGHES IS BRINGING A UNIQUE TWIST OF CULINARY EXCELLENCE TO THE POTOMAC AREA BY OFFERING MUCH MORE THAN JUST RUN-OF-THE-MILL IRISH FARE. Chef Hughes’ passion for quality, farm-fresh ingredients began early in his life as he grew up living on a small farm in upstate New York. After landing a job in a French restaurant in college, Ted switched his major from chemistry to food and hotel management. While in Paris, he worked and educated himself in classical French Cuisine. From there, he traveled to many places, including Napa Valley, California; Amman, Jordan; and Puerto Rico, finally settling in northern Virginia. His experiences working under many world-class chefs gave him a well-rounded education in the amazing diversity and history of what is now considered to be modern cuisine. “I love being able to provide a comfortable, cozy environment where people can have a home away from home and enjoy a variety of foods, whether it be a simple pub-style dish or something a bit more elegant,” Ted says. “I go to the market twice a week and hand-select produce so that we are able to serve our guests some of the region’s freshest products available.” Potomac residents can now enjoy a great fusion of Irish and American dishes. Lahinch prides itself on delicious, upscale-casual cuisine by serving dishes like the Mediterranean Platter with hummus, Greek yogurt with roasted peppers, olive oil-cured feta with Sicilian olives and pepperoncini, Parmesan flatbread, eggplant fritters with tomato jam, pickled vegetables and pita bread.
