The Men Have It Going On!
This month we celebrate men. There is nothing better than a good looking, good smelling, talented man with a great personality and a handsome smile!
We love all our men, but in this issue, we introduce you to men who really get our attention. We are thrilled for you to meet the talented Grammy Award-winning Anthony Hamilton, who is featured on the Cover and in an article inside. He is a native Charlottean and could be your neighbor, residing in Waxhaw. His life is as much about his love for family, his food business and his hats as it is about music. His sounds are unique and forever memorable.
A man needs to know where to go for a good drink! All men who appreciate the art of mixing drinks should get to know Dean White, master mixologist at Fiore Restaurant and Lounge. We tell his story and entice you with his beautiful drinks.
Two more of our favorite men are Richard Cranmer, chef and owner of Zinicola Italian restaurant in Ballantyne, and Orthodontist, Dr. Colin Webb who has five offices in the Charlotte area. They are both dynamic men! They both love their families and serve the community well in their respective businesses.
We also offer ideas for gentlemen on grooming, fitness and wellness. In addition, we suggest helpful tips on how to share Father's Day with your favorite guys.
We Love All the Men in South Charlotte and beyond!

ARTICLE BY MELINDA BURRIS, DR. COLIN WEBB AND ANN BREWER PHOTOGRAPHY BY RICHARD CRANMER AND DR. COLIN WEBBCHEF/OWNER, RICHARD CRANMER
Chef Richard Cranmer opened Zinicola restaurant in 2017. Located in Ballantyne Village, Zinicola has firmly established a reputation as an authentic Italian eatery with a welcoming atmosphere for inviting your family and friends to join the Zinicola family for great food, beverages, cocktails and conversation over the dinner table.
Richard was born in Brielle, New Jersey, and grew up in Spring Lake, New Jersey. He studied the culinary arts at Johnson and Wales University in Charlotte, left for a while and returned to stay in 2015. He met his wife, Najiya, who is a Charlotte native after moving to the Queen City.
Richard is the father of two sons, an eightyear-old and a three-month-old. Richard shares that his oldest child loves playing sports—football, baseball and practicing Taekwondo. Like most kids his age, he enjoys playing video games with his many cousins. Not surprisingly, his son’s favorite foods are pizza and pasta. He loves his dad’s food and Richard loves serving it to him too. Richard notes his son especially loves it when his dad cooks steak for the family on Sundays.
THE JOY OF FATHERHOOD
When asked what it was like becoming a father, Richard states, “Becoming a father has been the most rewarding, amazing thing in my life. Having a wonderful wife and mother to share this experience with has been such a blessing. It makes me feel like the luckiest
man in the world.” While owning and running his own restaurant has been a “lifelong passion” for Richard, he is quick to point out that he would not have been able to realize his dream if it weren’t for the love and support of his wife and kids.
Still, like most professionals, Richard agrees that maintaining the right work/life balance presents challenges. Richard admits, “I had to sacrifice a lot in the early days of the business, but now I have a really good team that allows me to spend more time at home. We also close the restaurant on Sundays, which is a good thing for me and the whole team and their families.” This is particularly important to Richard as he recalls, “When I was growing up, my dad worked a lot, but the times we spent on the weekends are some of my best childhood memories.”
Richard also notes that trips his family took to Italy to visit his grandparents and cousins were “amazing.” He has often credited the influence of his Italian mother and grandmother “Nona” as inspirations for his love of cooking, making pasta from scratch and preparing fresh Italian dishes with quality ingredients, care and respect.
Richard is a great example of the success stories coming from Johnson and Wales and we're happy he chose to stay here.

ORTHODONTIST, DR. COLIN WEBB
Dr. Colin Webb leads a team of some of the most accomplished orthodontists in the nation with expert knowledge and experience in using the Invisalign and LightForce braces systems. Webb’s orthodontic practice is one of the best in the Charlotte Metro area, with locations in SouthPark, Arboretum, Blakeney/Ballantyne, South End, and Huntersville. His practice was just voted the Best Orthodontist in our magazine’s Readers’ Choice Awards competition by our readers, viewers and social media followers for the 6th year in a row!
Colin is a bit of a rarity, a Charlotte native who returned to the Queen City after completing his education, even moving his young family into the SouthPark neighborhood of Foxcroft where he lived on Silver Bell Drive as a kid! After graduating from Providence Day High School, he earned his undergraduate degree at the University of North CarolinaChapel Hill before completing his formal education at the University of Maryland Dental School. There, he met his wife, Kelly, a Pennsylvania native and dentist who now enjoys calling North Carolina home.
A STRONG COMMITMENT TO FAMILY
Webb Orthodontics is a second-generation, family-owned business. Colin explains, “My dad was an orthodontist and I joined him in 2013, 10 years ago; we were able to practice together for six years, which was really special.” Colin’s father retired in 2019 and since
that time, Colin has worked to expand the practice to give more patients access to the highest level of orthodontic treatment.
Colin loves being a dad to his three children, his daughter, five-year-old Bennett, son James who is three years old and his youngest child, Thomas, who is one and a half. Colin shares, “One of the things I enjoy most about being a dad is being with my children when they experience things for the first time. It's so real and there is an aspect of nostalgia that comes with it. For example, we're currently teaching Bennett how to ride a bike without training wheels, and I have memories of doing this with my dad just one street over from where I'm doing it with my daughter today. That’s pretty special.”
It's clear Colin is devoted to his children. He describes Bennett as being their “very artistic and a smart left-handed little firecracker.” As for his sons, Colin describes James as “a sweet boy who loves airplanes and dinosaurs” and explains that his youngest, Thomas, “is just starting to come into his little personality” but claims it looks as if he is “trending toward developing into another firecracker, just like his big sister!” With a good-natured laugh, Colin notes, “Of course, like any self-respecting father, I've raised them to love their Tar Heels and Panthers!”

Gentlemen’s Grooming, Fitness and Wellness
In recent years, men have taken an increasing interest in grooming, fitness and wellness routines and articles about these topics have become hot topics in the world of health and lifestyle. Paying attention to these three key elements of mindfulness and self-care are important aspects of a man's life that can greatly impact their physical and mental health. Taking care of oneself can also boost self-confidence and overall well-being.
GROOMING TRENDS
1. Skin Care
As part of this trend, men's skincare has exploded in popularity, with many men adopting a daily skincare routine to improve the appearance and health of their skin. Brands are now focused on marketing directly to men with skincare lines made with their specific needs in mind with a range of products including cleansers, moisturizers and serums that address issues such as acne, moisturizing and aging.
2. Facial Hair
Beards have resurged as a popular trend for several years now, and there is no indication they
will be going out of fashion anytime soon. In 2023, we can expect to see more men sportiwng wellgroomed beards of differing lengths and styles, including shorter and more groomed beards that are easier to maintain.
3. Natural Grooming
There is a growing trend toward consumers demanding natural grooming products, with men becoming more conscientious about the quality of ingredients when determining which items they choose to use. In response, brands are now creating grooming products that are free from harsh chemicals and artificial fragrances, making them safer for the skin and environment.
4. Manicures and Pedicures
These aren’t just for women! Men can benefit from these grooming services, which include trimming, filing and buffing the nails, as well as exfoliating and moisturizing the hands and feet. Regular manicures and pedicures can improve the appearance and health of the nails and skin and provide a relaxing, enjoyable self-care practice for men.
FITNESS TRENDS
1. High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)
HIIT workouts involve short bursts of high-intensity exercise followed by periods of rest. These workouts have gained a popular following among health enthusiasts due to their efficiency in burning calories and improving cardiovascular fitness. Many gyms and fitness studios now offer HIIT classes, making them more accessible to men of all fitness levels.
2. Wearable Technology
Wearable technology, such as fitness trackers and smartwatches, has become an essential tool for men looking to track their fitness progress. These devices can track everything from steps taken to heart rate to calories burned, making it easier for men to monitor their fitness goals. 3. Group Fitness Classes Group fitness classes, such as spin classes and boot camps, have become increasingly popular among men who enjoy working out in a social setting. These classes are not only a great way to stay motivated but also provide a sense of community and support.
WELLNESS TRENDS
1. Mental Health Awareness
In recent years, there has been a growing awareness of the importance of maintaining proper mental health, with many men placing a higher priority on
their mental well-being. Men are now more open to seeking therapy and counseling to address issues such as stress, anxiety and depression.
2. Self-Care
Self-care has become an essential part of wellness, with men incorporating mindfulness by engaging in practices such as meditation, yoga, and massage as part of their daily routines. Men are also becoming more aware of the importance of getting enough sleep and taking breaks from technology to allow the mind and body to recharge.
3. Diet
Plant-based diets have become increasingly popular among men looking to improve their health and reduce their environmental footprint. Many men are now adopting vegetarian or vegan diets, or simply reducing their meat intake, in favor of a more plantbased diet that is rich in whole foods.
CONCLUSION
As we move forward in 2023, men's grooming, fitness and wellness continue to evolve and adapt to new trends and ideas. Whether it's adopting a daily skincare routine, trying out a new fitness class or prioritizing physical and mental well-being, there are many ways men can improve their overall health. By staying informed and open to new ideas and trends, men can stay ahead of the curve and maintain a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle.
Dean White: A Mixologist You Need to Know
ARTICLE BY MELINDA BURRIS AND DEAN WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY BY PAUL WILLIAMS, IIIWhen Dean White and Sharon Conklin knew they wanted to bring something to Charlotte that was different, they sourced and restored an antique back bar from a Chicago bar that had been working for over a century, inspiring them to create the spirit of Fiore. Pulling from that wonderful art deco design, Dean and Sharon crafted the 1920s style restaurant that focuses on quality cocktails, curated wine and expertly sourced and crafted food. They skillfully brought in decor from all of the country to make Fiore a unique establishment.
Since its launch in August 2022, Fiore has become a neighborhood gem. The restaurant offers patrons a sophisticated and warm atmosphere that instantly makes them feel welcome, relaxed and ready to enjoy a night of dining with drinks.
Dean is a primary driving force behind Fiore’s vision and success. Although his professional background includes a long career working in corporate America, at Fiore, Dean is getting back to his culinary roots. Originally a chef, Dean now uses his expertise to source the finest ingredients to highlight and bring out the most unusual and flavorful dining combinations.
Dean brings creativity behind the bar with only the best in-house spirits and of the finest quality, nothing but the best will do! He works closely with his highly trained bar staff to create unique in-house flavors that can only be found at Fiore. Using house-made syrups, tonics and internationally inspired ingredients, all beverages are artfully crafted resulting in special offerings that are unique and flavorful.
Once they were set, they began exploring unique drinks that they wanted to share with their patrons. Dean has mastered drinks to not only taste good but will keep you fascinated with how they are made, as they come to life. He offers the traditional bourbons and his favorite is an Old Fashioned made from the finest whiskies. It's extraordinarily entertaining to watch him make a Smoking Old Fashioned! Another popular drink that customers love is his Hibiscus Margarita with a salted rim.
Dean is constantly on the move, traveling between Florida, Charlotte and their other restaurant concepts in Greenville, SC. They will be expanding to Louisville, KY later this year.
From Fiore Lounge’s unique cocktails to their forever-changing list of local spirits, they have everything you need to have a great night out.
Their professional crew behind the bar has carefully curated a list of world-renowned drinks that leave your mouth buzzing with layers of flavor.

who is unapologetically himself in everything he does. His signature hat collection is expansive, and each hat expresses his unique style every time he’s seen.
ANTHONY'S
MUSICAL CAREER
Born in Charlotte in 1971, Anthony grew up listening to a diverse range of music, from gospel to soul to country. He began singing in church as a child, and by the time he was in his early twenties, he was performing in nightclubs and other venues in the Charlotte area. Anthony soon moved to New York to follow his dream of making it big in the music industry. In 1993, he signed his first record deal with Uptown Records. A versatile artist, Anthony would soon establish himself as an accomplished singer, songwriter and record producer. His talents as a songwriter earned recognition in 1999 when “U Know What’s Up,” a song Anthony co-wrote, became a hit for singer Donell Jones. Just three years later, Anthony received his first Grammy nomination for Nappy Roots’ 2002 single, “Po Folks .”
ARTICLE BY MELISSA LATIN AND ANN BREWER PHOTOGRAPHY BY ANTWON MAXWELL PHOTOGRAPHYA year later, Anthony released his second studio album Comin’ from Where I’m From . The album, which went Platinum, showcases Anthony’s unique blend of soul, R&B and gospel and was a critical and commercial success thanks in part to its title track and the hit single “Charlene.” In 2008, Anthony won the Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance for his duet with legendary Soul singer Al Green on the single, "You've Got the Love I Need ."
Anthony has released several more albums, including Ain’t Nobody Worryin’ (2005), The Point of It All (2008), Back to Love (2011) and What I'm Feelin’ (2016). In 2022, Anthony was awarded the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Male Artist for his stellar performance on his most current album, Love is the New Black (2021). But beyond his success, it’s Anthony's authenticity and honesty that has endeared him to fans around the world. He writes and sings about the struggles and joys of everyday life, from love and heartbreak to family and spirituality. His music is deeply personal and relatable, and his live performances are known for their soulful energy and raw emotion.
ANTHONY'S FAMILY
Despite his numerous career successes, Anthony finds his ultimate joy and fulfillment in his role as father to his six sons Anthony Jr., Romeiro, Tristen, Nolan, Aaron and Princeton. Though he has been open about the challenges of balancing career and family life, he has always made it clear that his family comes first. Anthony's family is an integral part of his music career. His children have appeared in several of his music videos, and his son, Romeiro, is also a talented musician who has performed with his father on stage. Anthony often shares photos and videos of his family on social media, and he has said that they are his biggest inspiration and motivation.
HIS LOVE FOR FOOD
It was only natural that Anthony would venture into the world of food. Reverence for lovingly preparing Lowcountry foods is a tradition that was handed down to him by the women and men in his family. In recent years, he has turned this passion into a business. Anthony launched his own line of signature hot sauces, called Hamilton's Hot Sauce, in 2016. The line includes four different flavors, each named after one of Anthony's hit songs: Cornbread, Mac & Cheese, Southern Charm , and Ain't No Shame. Hamilton’s hot sauces have been well-received by fans and food critics alike, winning awards at hot sauce festivals around the country.
In 2019, Anthony released a cookbook, “Cornbread Fish’n Collard Greens ” featuring his personal favorite southern dishes. Anthony has also opened Hamilton Cornerstore where along with kindred spirit Chef April Robinson, Anthony offers southern staples made with the finest ingredients and cookware needed to create sumptuous down-home meals at home. He prides himself on his grits, cornbread, cake mixes, sauces and seasonings.
You can purchase these items at The Butchers Market, 8410 Rea Rd., Suite 110, Charlotte, NC 28277 or visit HamiltonCornerstore.com .
