Happy new year, friends! I hope you all had a magical holiday season, basking in the love of family and friends, and making lots of lasting memories.
After all that merriment, January seems so dull in comparison, right? The dreary, cold weather, no time off from school or work, no parties, no nothing. But our January wellness issue is a shining light in all of that dullness! For starters, the legendary Brooke Shields graces our cover. She'll be keynote speaker at the Nashville Antiques & Garden Show later this month and will be talking all about her passion for home renovation and design.
This issue is dedicated to wellness - from tranquil escapes to picks for self-help books, we cover some of the good health category. And that should help shine-up January's dullness!
May you enjoy a beautiful and prosperous 2025. Yours in wellness,

A LOOK INTO THE 2025 ANTIQUES AND GARDEN SHOW OF NASHVILLE
ARTICLE BY COLEEN JANEWAY
| PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
Planting the seed for future inspiration is the 2025 Antiques & Garden Show in Nashville. An annual benefit for Cheekwood Estate & Gardens and Economic Club of Nashville (ECON) Charities, the show, now in its 35th year, features a delightful lineup of lectures and exhibits including some of the industry's best and brightest in horticultural design, interiors, antiques, and landscaped gardens from across the country. Founded in 1990 as a way to give back to the Nashville community, the Antiques & Garden show remains committed to supporting the local community, and in the last 34 years has given $11 million back to these incredible organizations.
A highlight of the weekend is the lecture series keynote, "Cultivating the Character of Home," moderated by India Hicks with Brooke Shields and her longtime collaborator and friend, British designer David Flint Wood. Shields recently unveiled her latest entrepreneurial project, Commence, a digital platform that inspires women over 40 to live their best lives. Shields' next book, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old will be released later this month.
Nashville’s own Sheryl Crow and Lauren Akins host "Designing Music City, Cultivating the Way We Live: Designing A Home with Heart." Crow and Akins, alongside their friend and designer April Tomlin of April Tomlin Interiors, a Nashville staple, invite attendees to take a peek inside their beautiful and livable homes. Crow is a nine-time Grammy award winner/singer-songwriter, mother and activist. Akins is a mother, author, philanthropist and wife of country music superstar Thomas Rhett.
Show general co-chairs, Paige Hill and Dawn Looney, consider the annual show to be the gold standard of all things home and garden and an enchanting antidote to the winter blues. Hill and Looney agreed from the very start on what they wanted the look and feel of the show to be, and they say how fun it’s been to watch the brilliantly talented creative teams who surround them bring this vision to life. From the unique antiques and beauty and creativity of the gardens, to the inspiring and educational lectures and the relationships they are building along the way, Hill and Looney agree the Antique & Garden Show truly delights and fills their souls in a way few things can.
Many factors go into making such an expansive show come together and this year's honorary co-chairs, Bunny Williams and Elizabeth Lawrence are pleased to share some of the behind-the-scenes magic. Considered one of the most talented names in design, Williams is an accomplished businesswoman and philanthropist known for balancing refined beauty, welcoming livable appeal and attention to detail. One of Architectural Diges t’s AD100 Hall of Fame members, Williams lands routinely on various best-of lists, including ELLE DECOR ’s A-List and Luxe’s Gold List, and has won numerous awards including the New York School of Interior Design’s Albert Hadley Lifetime Achievement Award, the Living Landmarks Award from the New York Landmarks Conservancy, a Kips Bay’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art’s Arthur Ross Award.
Honorary co-chair Lawrence has spent her career working alongside Williams, designing projects across the country, from Manhattan to Palm Beach to Los Angeles. Since being named Williams' only partner in 2017, their firm, Williams Lawrence, has built a legacy of superior design. Recently, City Lifestyle was invited to chat with Lawrence about plans for the show.
AS THIS PRESTIGIOUS EVENT APPROACHES WHAT HAS YOU THE MOST EXCITED?
I always look forward to opening night. It’s just amazing to see everyone and explore the dealers’ offerings. It is a festive occasion, and you get to see how the committee has raised the bar yet again on the décor and the event.
CAN YOU SHARE WHAT INSPIRES YOU AS CO-CHAIR? IS THERE ONE LECTURE OR EVENT YOU FEEL IS A MUST SEE IF YOU ARE AN UP-AND-COMING DESIGNER, LANDSCAPER OR ARCHITECT?
The event is so beautifully planned each year and it is inspiring to see everyone come together to raise money for the community. There are so many amazing lectures and events. I’ve always been a fan of the work of designers Veere Grenney and Rita
Konig, so I’m really looking forward to their conversation with Dara Caponigro, from Schumacher & Co. For anyone who is a fan of interior design, that’s a must-not-miss.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE GARDEN STYLE AND WHY DO YOU LEAN TOWARDS THIS CHOICE? OF COURSE, PERSONAL STYLE DOES NOT MATCH WITH A CLIENT'S NEEDS. HOW DOES YOUR FIRM APPROACH NEW CLIENT PROJECTS AS CREATIVELY AS POSSIBLE?
I love English gardens for their combination of formality and comfort and the unrestricted feeling you have strolling through them. When it comes to projects, listen first. Always start by listening to what your clients want, then you can guide them with your expertise and knowledge.

1106 South Garden Street, Columbia GhostlightBooks.org @ghostlightbks
This time of year, the cold winter air and its natural stillness beckon us to curl up beneath a warm blanket and read a good book. A short drive to Columbia will take you to Ghostlight Books, the perfect place to choose your next read. A non-profit bookstore run entirely by volunteers, Ghostlight Books recently relocated from Spring Hill to Columbia’s Art District.
Ghostlight may at first seem like a peculiar name for a bookstore. The term refers to a single lamp left on in the theater between productions or when it is closed. In a practical sense, it helps keep stagehands and actors from falling or having a misstep into a trap door, the orchestra pit, or stumbling over part of the set. Historically, however, a ghostlight is said to provide light for any spirits residing in the theater. While that may sound silly, some see this tradition as a nod to the past, honoring those who have performed before them. In any case, the name aptly fits this unique non-profit bookstore with a mission to increase access to arts education and promote literacy.
Ghostlight Books first came into existence in 2017 when Midsouth Youth Theatre & Arts volunteers gathered books to sell as a fundraiser. The goal was to raise money to help fund tuition-free productions and arts education opportunities for students in the Spring Hill community and surrounding areas. As interest grew, their once small fundraiser turned into opening a bookstore in November 2020, continuing to benefit programs centered around arts access and education.
Stepping into the bookstore, you will find a variety of new and used books, toys, games, and gifts. Ghostlight houses over forty local vendors, including jewelry, prints, and crocheted items. As you peruse the shelves, you will also likely meet the director’s cats, Neil Gaimeown and Terry Scratchett, whose names are a nod to the co-authors of Good Omens.
The Director of Ghostlight Books, Sarah Kennedy, first developed a love of the arts while in college. When asked about her passion for arts education, she reflected on the saying, “Be what. you needed as a kid.” Pouring her heart, soul, and energy into the arts, Kennedy has worked in theater for the better part of the past twenty-five years. She helped found Midsouth Youth Theatre & Arts, but with the onset of the pandemic, opportunities and spaces for performing dwindled, leading Kennedy to establish The Ghostlight Foundation as a non-profit specific to the bookstore. Her desire has been to offer tuition-free arts education for children through the non-profit, covering the cost of hiring teachers
and providing supplies. Kennedy currently works for Watershed Public Theater, focusing her efforts on education and outreach.
Kennedy’s commitment to the community doesn’t end there. Seeing a need for children to have access to tutoring and assistance with homework, Ghostlight has expanded its mission to include future opportunities for tutoring, developing a reading buddies program, and offering space for children to work on homework or projects with assistance. The desire is to make Ghostlight Books, “less of a store and more of a gathering place for the community.” The hope is it will be a place where people can find connection with resources and each other. Stating that they will always be a bookstore, Kennedy shared her desire to focus on, “identifying what the community needs and ways [the foundation] can help.”
As Ghostlight turns the page to this new chapter in Columbia and all of us turn the calendar year from one to the next, it is a natural time for reflection, goal-setting, and focus on overall well-being. As such, we have curated a list of books for readers to enjoy in the year ahead.

“They were super nauseous and couldn’t get ahead of the nausea enough to stay hydrated.”
For many expectant mothers, pregnancy is a time of both excitement and physical challenges (the thrill of a first ultrasound wears off when morning sickness arrives). When Jennifer Evans' own daughters were pregnant, she realized the vicious cycle that often comes along with first-trimester woes: nausea leads to dehydration, and dehydration leads to nausea.
“It all really became something I was passionate about when both of my girls were pregnant,” Evans shares. “They were super nauseous and couldn’t get ahead of the nausea enough to stay hydrated.”
Her daughter’s midwife encouraged exploring vitamin infusions and IV therapy as a way to break the cycle, and at the time, Evans was completing clinicals at Mulberry Clinic which had a vitamin infusions branch onsite. She knew IV therapy was a way to get ahead of these symptoms and, ultimately, break the cycle.
A Meyers cocktail is the only recommended infusion during pregnancy. It offers hydration on a cellular level through a mixture of B and C vitamins, magnesium, and calcium. It also boosts immunity, stabilizes mood, improves energy levels, strengthens focus and mental clarity, and more. For Evans' daughter, this worked like a charm.
“We joke that my first grandbaby is twenty-five percent goldfish and twenty-five percent Meyers cocktail,” she laughs. Evans is now the clinical manager at Mulberry Vitamin Infusions, supporting pregnant women and the Spring Hill community at large with custom infusions.
Most pregnant women find vitamin infusions primarily beneficial in the first trimester when nausea is at its peak. But many continue into the second trimester or even postpartum to aid hydration and improve milk supply issues.
While anyone is welcome to make an appointment, Mulberry Vitamin Infusions collaborates closely with midwives, recognizing that many in the area choose nontraditional prenatal care.
“If you’re feeling nauseous, we recommend speaking with your midwife sooner rather than later,” Evans says. “Often, they will recommend you come see us even if it’s before their first appointment.”
The frequency of infusions varies depending on the individual – some are recommended to receive infusions weekly, others can go longer. The Mulberry Vitamin Infusions team works closely with each individual, and physicians when needed, to create a custom approach and individualized care.
Appointments are usually available within 24 hours, and the infusion process itself is efficient. “It takes anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes and there’s no downtime at all,” Evans says.
While there are ample benefits of vitamin infusions during pregnancy, anyone can reap the benefits of IV therapy. Especially as we enter the gloomy season, it’s natural to feel more run down, tired, and foggy thanks to chillier temperatures, shorter days, and increased sniffles. Vitamin infusions can help boost immunity and keep essential nutrients at the appropriate level to help anyone thrive during the winter.
“B vitamins are critical for everyone,” she adds. “Many don’t know that up to sixty percent of the population has the MTHFR gene mutation, which means they don’t methylate vitamins appropriately. At Mulberry Vitamin Infusions, we only use methylated B vitamins.
We completely skip the gut and go directly into the bloodstream.”
An interesting fact about vitamins used in IV hydration: they are water-soluble, so the body only takes what it needs and discards the rest. So while the team at Mulberry Vitamin Infusions will gladly work in conjunction with physicians, prescriptions and referrals are not required because your body can do the work itself.
The Mulberry Clinic is often associated with membership-based care, but the vitamin infusion center is available to the public. Both memberships and one-off appointments are available.
