# A PUBLIC NHS – WE WILL: 3 Fight for a publicly funded NHS free at the point of use and end the creeping privatisation of its services.
MIRANDA says ... I live in Oldham where I work with deaf and hearing impaired children. I have 30 years experience working in Community Development, including working with people with dementia, asylum seekers, and with housing co-operatives. I have a specific interest in cooperative working, having worked with tenant controlled housing cooperatives, worker owned businesses, and financial co operatives, including Oldham Credit Union. I am passionate about meaningful consultation and am regularly disappointed in what we are offered in Oldham in that regard.
3 Make mental health a much higher priority with resources to match this status.
# A FAIR ECONOMY – WE WILL: 3 End austerity and restore the public sector to create over one million good jobs. This will be paid for with a wealth tax on the top 1%, a Robin Hood tax on the banks and the closure of tax loopholes. 3 A minimum wage of £10 an hour by 2020.
# DECENT HOMES – WE WILL: 3 Abolish the unfair Bedroom Tax.
As the cuts to public services take their toll, more and more people in Oldham understand that they are unfair. More and more people are being unjustly sanctioned and are having to rely on food banks. More and more people are having to choose between eating and heating whilst energy companies’ profits soar.
3 Build 500,000 new social rented homes and bring empty homes back into use.
We in the Green Party believe that austerity is causing real suffering, and is not the cure to our broken economy.
3 Invest in renewable energy, with projects like Saddleworth Hydro.
On 7 May, you can vote against austerity, against injustice, and for a decent future for Oldham East and Saddleworth.
