Our Caring, Patient-Centered Practice
My practice combines world-class orthopaedic care in a warm and welcoming environment where every patient is treated with respect, the way I would want my family to be cared for.
From the rst phone call, you will nd my team 100 percent engaged in addressing your needs.
I care for people in their 80s and 90s who refuse to relinquish their independence and opt for surgery to regain an active lifestyle. I also treat patients in their 20s and 30s who desire an improved quality of life and want to feel “normal” again.
Safely Going Home the Day of Surgery
My emphasis on preempting and preventing pain after surgery has been a game changer. Patients walk the day of surgery and the vast majority of my patients go straight home the afternoon of their hip or knee replacement surgery. This requires coordinated pre-operative planning and detailed communication between my staff and the patient.

Rationalization Nation
BY SUSAN ROSSER
Iwas working on this column, and it wasn’t going well.
In frustration, I turned to my sister and moaned, “I guess it doesn’t have to be Pulitzer Prize-worthy.”
Now, how’s that for a rationalization?
As we head into a new year, creating a vision for the future is essential.
Clear goals help keep us on track. But life hardly ever goes as planned. And even the loftiest goals, coupled with discipline and determination, may not be enough. There are times when we are all bound to fail.
Life can be tricky, which is why we all need the ability to rationalize. And while some may see rationalizations as a weakness, I see this invaluable skill as a form of self-forgiveness.
And quite frankly, the world is full of rationalizations that we don’t even realize are rationalizations. So if you think you never rationalize anything or that you can’t — think again. You’re probably rationalizing something every single day.
For instance, maybe right now, as you read this column, you should be catching up on some work. Instead, you’re reading this column, telling yourself it’s OK because reading is a virtuous endeavor — it keeps your mind sharp.
Here are some classic rationalizations that perhaps haven’t been labeled as such.
Back in the thick of the pandemic days, I rarely wore anything besides leggings, sweatpants, tee-shirts and cut-offs. Now that I am back in the mainstream, I find donning real clothes to be burdensome, not to mention constricting.
Lucky for me, sweatpants are now called joggers.
Yes, those pants we slipped into as we stumbled to class during our college years. Yes, those pants one wears when zippers, belt loops and buttons are beyond one’s capabilities. And yes, the pants we often feel a twinge of guilt for wearing out in public — yup, now they’re called joggers.
The name suggests these are pants one wears while jogging — no need to feel guilty about that elastic waistband or stretchy material. You don’t look lazy and sloppy in joggers. You look smart, comfortable and, quite possibly, athletic.
Slide into your favorite pair and feel good about yourself.
I don’t know who was the first to re-brand sweatpants as joggers — but a Nobel prize for rationalization seems in order.
More good news — if you grill a large thick juicy New York strip steak and serve it on a bed of lettuce with an assortment of raw vegetables — now it’s a salad. Really, you can imbibe 16 ounces of juicy ribeye, but as long as it is served over leafy greens, you can declare you had a salad for lunch. Brilliant!
Perhaps the most common form of rationalization concerns unnecessary expenditures. If I had a nickel for every time I rationalized a visit to the Starbucks drivethru, I would be retired, living in the South of France with my own private barista. I never seem to have time to brew coffee, but I always manage to find time to pick up a cappuccino.
Perhaps my most frequently used rationalization these days is that I don’t have time to go to the grocery store. Of course, I always find plenty of time to shop online. The truth is I don’t want to change out of my sweatpants. Did I say sweatpants? I meant joggers. Y

Live Presents: Ann Landers: The Lady with All The Answers
WHERE: Pompano Beach Cultural Center, 50 W. Atlantic Blvd., Pompano Beach
WHEN: Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28 COST: $35
WHAT: With wit, charm, and chutzpah, Ann Landers provided millions of Americans with their daily dose of advice, etiquette, and encouragement. And for nearly half a century, Eppie Lederer was Ann Landers. In this warm and funny one-woman play, drawn from her life and letters, Eppie comes to life as she writes perhaps her most challenging—and personal—column. Esther Pauline “Eppie” Lederer, better known as Ann Landers, took over the Chicago SunTimes’s ‘Ask Ann Landers’ column in 1955 after the death of its creator, Ruth Crowley. During the next 47 years, readers across the country wrote to Ann with questions about everything from sex and marriage, to how to properly hang toilet paper. Questions you may not feel comfortable discussing with your priest, friends, or even your spouse could be shared with Ann Landers. Lederer also weighed in on complex issues, including politics, abortion and homosexuality. She became a media celebrity yet still answered every letter herself, as long as it had a return address. This 2006 one-woman show, written by David Rambo is set in 1975 and is based on Lederer’s letters and life stories.
What are the Benefits of Dental Implants?
Your teeth were designed to last a lifetime, but sometimes they don’t! Replacing missing teeth is important to your general health and to the health of your other teeth. Not only do you lose chewing ability when a tooth is lost, but unreplaced teeth can cause other teeth to be lost, tipped or crowded and create subsequent problems. Also, there are obvious problems of poor appearance and loss of self-esteem caused by one or more missing teeth. Dental implants should always be considered as an option to replace a failing or missing tooth. Replacement of lost teeth with dental implants has been used for treating missing teeth for more than 50 years and is recognized as an effective treatment choice. Treatment is considered more predictable than bridgework, resinbonded bridges and endodontic treatment. As a patient, you face a difficult decision to undergo surgery to insert dental implants to replace one or more missing teeth.
Periodontists are specialists that are well qualified to perform implants based on their extensive experience and in-depth training.
WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS?
Dental implants are substitutes for the roots of missing teeth. They act as an anchor for a replacement tooth or crown or a set of replacement teeth.
AM I A CANDIDATE FOR IMPLANTS?
Implant patients are of all ages and implants may be the right choice for anyone missing one or more teeth due to injury, disease or decay. They are convenient for patients who can no longer wear removable dentures. Your dentist can determine if you are a candidate for dental implants after carefully evaluating your dental and medical history.
DO I HAVE ENOUGH BONE? A patient needs to have enough bone to support the implant. If you do not have enough bone, there are many safe and effective ways to correct bone deficiency. Your periodontist will assess this and advise you if additional bone material is needed.
WILL THIS TAKE A LONG TIME?
Treatment time can vary greatly depending on your needs. Each situation needs a separate evaluation; in some cases, the teeth can be placed on the same day, and in other cases, you may have to wait for two to three months for your new teeth. Temporary teeth are always placed. You will never go with missing spaces.
WHOM SHOULD I CONSULT FOR MY IMPLANT TREATMENT? Your periodontist is your first resource for this service. The key is the implant dentist’s training, experience and credentials.

Former Old Town Laundromat to Become Steak and Seafood Restaurant
The Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) has plans to transform a former laundromat in Old Town into a steak and seafood restaurant with rooftop seating and an indoor/ outdoor bar.
The CRA recently accepted a proposal from Palm 78 LLC to design, fund, maintain and operate the restaurant on a site located at 11 NE First Street (the corner of North Flagler Avenue and NE First Street). The site, owned by the CRA, is currently occupied by a 6,000-square-foot vacant building dubbed the “Wash House.”
Negotiations between the CRA and Palm 78 restaurant group are underway, with the objective of turning the site into an anchor for the Old Town Arts and Entertainment District.
“The team from Palm 78 has crafted an exciting proposal for the space, one that will support our goal of creating a thriving dining destination,” said CRA Director Nguyen Tran.
Palm 78 is headed by Lino Joseph, who is the concept creator and owner of five restaurants in the Atlanta metropolitan area – four upscale Caribbean restaurants, named Spice House, and Palm 78, Joseph’s newest restaurant, which opened in July 2022. The Palm 78 concept – a steak and seafood
restaurant featuring tropical-infused cuisine and craft cocktails – is the same concept Joseph is proposing for Pompano Beach. The name “Palm 78” refers to the palm trees of Florida and the year in which Joseph was born.
The plans for the Pompano location include demolishing the existing structure and constructing a new building similar in size, according to the proposal submit-
ted by Palm 78. The new building would be set back a little further from the street than the existing structure to provide more outdoor seating.
Joseph currently estimates the buildout of the restaurant would take 270 days after the issuance of permits. The estimated cost of construction and equipment is $5.1 million.

to bring a great product to Pompano Beach,” said Joseph.
The proposed hours of operation for the restaurant would be seven days a week, starting at 11am. The restaurant would have 54 fulltime employees.
Joseph, who lives in Atlanta, said he chose Pompano as the location for his next restaurant because he’s originally from Miami and plans to return to South Florida in the next few years.
Joseph’s close friend, Henri Crockett, also played a role in his choice of the restaurant’s location. Crockett – who grew up in Pompano and went on to play football with the Florida State University Seminoles, the Atlanta Falcons and the Minnesota Vikings
educational programs, including in Pompano.
Joseph said Palm 78 will be invested in the community and will partner with culinary schools and workforce development programs to hire and train people who want careers in the restaurant industry
The former laundromat building has stood vacant for roughly eight years. The CRA purchased the structure in 2019 for $1.2 million, after leasing it for five years. The CRA gutted the interior space down to dirt floors in an effort to make it easier to install new utilities and attract a restaurant use.
After showing the property to potential tenants and getting their feedback about the space, CRA staff realized some improvements
– thought the location in Old Town would be a good opportunity to bring something positive to the community.

needed to be made to the property in order to draw a successful operator to the location.
In June 2021, the CRA Board allocated funding for improvements to the building. The proposed improvements included opening the west and south sides of the building; installing new windows and door entrances; adding pilings for an elevator and infrastructure

for stairwells; and making the roof structurally sound to allow for rooftop usage.
However, during the due diligence phase, the building was inspected by a structural engineer and two contractors. According to CRA Redevelopment Project Manager Kimberly Vazquez, all drew the same conclusion – it would be more cost effective to demolish the current structure and do ground-up construction of a new shell for restaurant use. The estimated cost to build just a shell was over $1 million.
As a result, CRA staff decided it would be better to find a developer/restaurant operator who could partner with the CRA on the construction of the site. In May 2022, the CRA issued a solicitation for proposals. When the solicitation period closed in September 2022, one proposal was received from Palm 78.
A development agreement is being negotiated with Palm 78. Once it is finalized, it will be brought to the CRA Board for approval.
The Palm 78 team has proposed a long-term ground lease with rent ($83,000) starting in the third year, and an option to purchase within five years after the restaurant’s opening.
The CRA’s redevelopment of the Old Town area as an arts and entertainment district has attracted other restaurants, including South PMP Bar & Kitchen, which is about to open, and soon-to-be-constructed Papamigos.
“It’s an exciting time,” said Joseph. “We’re excited about coming to this area and making an impact.”Y

New Hilton Hotel Planned in Pompano Beach
A 9-story hotel – Homewood Suites by Hilton – is planned for the southwest corner of North Federal Highway and NE Sixth Street in Pompano Beach.
The approximately 1-acre project site lies just east of the U.S. Post Office at 1950 NE Sixth Street, and south of the recently constructed Morea Apartments. The site is currently occupied by a Citgo gas station and a vacant single-tenant professional building that for many years was a Quest Diagnostics medical lab. The two existing structures would be demolished.
A site plan application for the proposed 163-room hotel is currently going through the City’s review process.
The project is being developed by MHG Hotels, headquartered in Indianapolis. MHG Hotels, helmed by its founder Sanjay Patel, is one of the country’s largest privately-owned property development and hospitality companies. Its franchise affiliations include Marriott International, Hilton Worldwide and Choice Hotels International.
Homewood Suites by Hilton, managed by Hilton Worldwide, is a chain consisting of more than 500 all-suite residential-style hotels.
The proposed Homewood Suites by Hilton in Pompano Beach was designed by Fort Lauderdalebased Adache Group Architects.
According to the site plan, the ground-floor main lobby would be located on the east side of the hotel, fronting Federal Highway, and would include breakfast and coffee areas. The ground floor would also include a patio lounge, accessible from the main lobby
and surrounded by new landscaping along Federal Highway. Several meeting rooms and hotel offices with floor-to-ceiling glazing would front NE Sixth Street.
The developer is seeking approval from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to remove three existing driveways on the west side of Federal Highway along the frontage of the site, and to add a right-in only driveway on the west side of Federal Highway approximately 30 feet north of the south property line.
The vehicular entry from Federal Highway would provide an interior drop-off to the main lobby, as well as access to a three-level parking garage above the ground floor. The three parking levels would each contain 11 “liner” hotel rooms on the Federal Highway side. An additional five floors with 130 hotel
rooms would sit above the parking garage.
The southwest portion of the hotel’s fifth level would have an open-air amenity deck with no floors above it. The 11,000-squarefoot deck would include a swimming pool, lounge seating, an outdoor kitchen with a trellis, an activity lawn and a fire feature with seating. A fitness center would be adjacent to the amenity deck.
The hotel rooms would be a mix of 68 efficiency suites (379 to 629 square feet), 69 double queen studios (570 to 607 square feet), 18 king studios (454 to 596 square feet) and eight king one-bedroom units (687 square feet).
The hotel would have a total of 185 parking spaces. A decorative perforated metal screen with horizontal LED lighting strips would camouflage the parking garage’s north façade (visible from NE Sixth Street) and south façade (visible from Federal Highway).
A drive aisle would be provided along the west side of the hotel building to allow vehicles to enter and exit the site from NE Sixth Street.
A double sidewalk with a landscaped five-foot-wide median would run along the front of the hotel, adjacent to Federal Highway. The sidewalk includes a pedestrian entrance into the hotel’s main lobby.
The project site consists of property located at 505 N. Federal Highway and 599 N. Federal Highway. MHG Hotels purchased the property from MacMillan Real Estate LLC, based in Doral, in November 2022. Y

Oh Look! It’s Another New Year!
BY DAWNE RICHARDS
Would you like to know the worst mistake I’ve ever made in my entire life? [I’ve probably mentioned this before, but whatever…].
OK: As 2019 ended, I made a 2020 New Year’s resolution. Why was this so terrible, you ask? It’s because it was my first-ever New Year’s resolution and — even better — do you know what it was?
(I know; you’re all on the edges of your seats. I’m getting there. Really.)
I declared that 2020 would be my personal — and the world’s — return to normalcy.
So yes, yes I did. In the words of the late, great comedian Alan King, I “ruined it for everybody.”
What can I say? That was when I realized that I genuinely do have world-changing
According to the New York Post, it takes the average American roughly one month to abandon their New Year’s resolution(s). Close to three-quarters of those surveyed gave them up even before that. And — this is the best thing ever — about 14% of folks don’t even believe their own resolutions when they make . How’s that for hope over experience?
Just imagine the conversation in the 14 percenters’ heads: [Self]: “Next year, I’m going
[Reality Check Self]: “Hahaha! No you’re not!” [Self]: “I am TOO.”
[Reality Check Self]: “Hold my beer.” Anyway. Clearly, I’ve learned my lesson. So this year, my New Year’s resolution is: Nope! Not doing it. I see what you did there, brain. You tried to trick me. “But it’s…it’s…2023! It’s waaaay past the last time you did this. Go ahead, make one. It’ll be fine.”
Ha! Fool me once; shame on you. Fool me twice — I think there’s something that comes after this, but that danged memory fails me again.
No. Instead of making another New Year’s resolution, I’m going to double down on gardening. Because, as every South Floridian knows, that’s totally not a triumph of hope over experience.
Speaking of which, as I write this in the sweltering, absurd, should-be-illegal heat of late November, I’m about to grab my gardening shears to battle the plants. You know the ones — the ones we plant when they’re adorable little things, which then turn into the Giant Plants That Ate Manhattan overnight.
Wondering what this has to do with New Year’s resolutions? Tsk, tsk… you weren’t paying attention, and I kind of don’t blame you. Here’s a reminder:
Digression (I’m a gold medalist in the Digression Olympics)
Hope over experience.
This time, I promise to do more research before getting any new plants. I’ll find out which are slow growers (you know, the ones that take six months to reach six feet instead of reaching their full height in 24 hours). I’m going to read the tags that tell me their maximum height, and then I’m going to…
Does all that sound, well, resolution-y? Oh boy, here we go again.
Anyway! Here’s hoping everyone has a beautiful New…. nope, not going to say it, just in case. You’re welcome. Y

Be Courageous!
History has taught us that successful people have had to act courageously at times. Sometimes that means taking risks to start or turn around a business, seek a new job, or attempt a career in show business.
Dealing with the unknown is scary. We all want to be in control and predetermine outcomes. Unfortunately, life does not always allow us to do that.
One of my best friends, Bill Storm, was working for a company with a boss that was arrogant, rude, and had unrealistic expectations. After a disagreement, Bill quit his job only to find out his wife was pregnant with their first child.
BY CRAIG HALEY
He came from a rough Brooklyn neighborhood and dreamed of making it big as a rapper.
Unfortunately, the rest of the world didn’t agree with him. Not one record label would sign him. That didn’t stop him from creating his own music label, which would eventually turn into the lucrative Roc-A-Fella Records.
Strategy #2: Share Your Truth and Ambitions
High performers know that the main motivation of humankind is to be free, to express our true selves and pursue our dreams without restriction – to experience personal freedom.
Follow this impulse by consistently sharing your thoughts, feelings, needs, and dreams with others.
McDonald’s founder, Ray Kroc, used this strategy after meeting the McDonald brothers in California. He had a grandiose vision of what the business could become – a worldwide powerhouse that would serve millions daily and make everyone hundreds of millions of dollars.
Strategy #3: Find Someone to Fight For
We all need a noble cause. High performers tend to make that cause just one person. They want to fight for that person so that they can be safe, improve, and live a better quality of life.
In doing something for others, you will find your reason for acting courageously and your cause for focus and excellence.
Legendary actor and comedian Jim Carrey dropped out of high school to work and support his family. He also continued working on his dream of becoming a highly-paid comedian and actor. In fact, Jim wrote a check to himself for $10 million, and in the memo section, he wrote “for acting services rendered.”
Now more than 20 years later, Bill is a successful entrepreneur. He did it because he had to. He had a baby on the way, and he had to make things happen.
How do the most successful people in the world act courageously when the fear of failure and defeat is very realistic?
Strategy #1: Honor the Struggle
Don’t complain about the effort involved when you can learn and serve. High performers view struggle as necessary, meaningful, and a positive part of their journey
. They never bemoan the inevitable hardships of self-improvement. They have reverence for the challenge!
Jay-Z knows first-hand the mindset of honoring the struggle.
He overcame rejection, including being booed off stage during his first stand-up performance. He wanted to give his family a better life, and more than seven years later, he was offered the starring role in “Dumb & Dumber.”
What was he paid for that role? $10 million!
Life can be challenging, and there will be times when we need to step up and act boldly. Top performers step up and act confidently in the face of adversity. They are not afraid to fail because they know failure is an event and will not define them.
Take that step and be courageous! You can do it! Y

Scarborough Fair Pork Tenderloin
That classic combination of parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme mixed with a little Dijon mustard and garlic takes this pork tenderloin to the next level. This is an uncomplicated recipe that could easily be a weeknight family meal or the centerpiece of a fabulous dinner party. And while the Port wine reduction isn’t essential (and perhaps a little fussy for a weeknight), it does elevate the dish to dinner party status.
BY MRS. KOSSENFLOFFER
CREATIVELY COOKING
SCARBOROUGH FAIR PORK TENDERLOIN
Ingredients
1 1/2 teaspoons fresh sage, chopped
2 teaspoons fresh rosemary, chopped
1 tablespoon fresh thyme chopped
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
2-3 garlic cloves, grated Salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup Dijon mustard
8 tablespoons olive oil, divided
2 1-pound pork tenderloins
6 shallots, peeled and halved through root
1/2 pound red seedless grapes cut into small bundles
1 1/3 pounds fingerling potatoes, halved lengthwise
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
For the Port wine reduction (optional)
1/2 cup Port wine
1/2 cup chicken stock
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
Preparation
In a small bowl, combine the sage, rosemary, thyme, garlic, mustard salt, pepper and 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
Place the tenderloins in a shallow bowl large enough to hold them, and rub the mustard mixture all over the pork. Or you can place the pork and marinade in a resealable plastic bag. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
Preheat the oven to 425.
Combine the potatoes and shallots with 4 tablespoons of olive oil, and add salt and pepper to taste. Place the potatoes and shallots cut side down in a single layer on a rimmed sheet-pan. Roast for 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, heat a large saute pan over medium-high heat. Add about 2 tablespoons of olive oil and sear the tenderloins in the pan until they are brown on all sides. Remove from the pan.
After 30 minutes, reduce the oven to 325.
Remove the sheet-pan from the oven and scoot the po tatoes and shallots to make room for the pork. Place the seared tenderloins on the rimmed sheet pan and arrange the grapes on top of the potatoes and shallots.
Place dabs of butter on top of the pork tenderloins. Return to the oven and roast until the pork has reached an internal temperature of 145, about 20-30 minutes.
While the pork is roasting, make the Port reduction. In the same pan you used to sear the pork, wipe any excess oil out of the pan. Add the Port to the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes until it is reduced by half. Add the stock and again reduce it by half. Whisk in the butter, 1 tablespoon at a time. Taste and add salt and pepper if needed.
Allow the pork to rest on a cutting board for 5-10 min utes. Slice the meat and arrange it on a platter with the potatoes, shallots and grapes. Drizzle the Port reduction over the pork or serve on the side. Y

An Interview with David Sanborn
BY RICHARD ROSSER
Iwanted to interview David Sanborn after reading his Wikipedia page. His discography starts with a list of his 22 albums — certainly prolific but not newsworthy.
Then begins his resume of work as “sideman,” a new term for me that refers to someone who works with another musician or group but not as a regular member. Sanborn has worked with some of the most celebrated musicians, including David Bowie, The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, James Taylor, Sting, Carly Simon, Eric Clapton, and the list goes on.
Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run” — that thunderous sax on that iconic rock song — oh yeah, that was David Sanborn.
Six Grammy Awards, eight gold and one platinum albums, and he’s recorded many television show theme songs, most notably the one for “L. A. Law.”
You can tell I was impressed at this point. Then the movie soundtracks like the “Lethal Weapon” films and television performances like “Saturday Night Live” as a regular band member and many years as a regular guest member of Paul Shafer’s band on “The
“Can you speak with David Sanborn . . . preferably within the next half hour.”
I said yes and set up my laptop and recorder in my car, and he called several minutes later and greeted me with his soft, low-toned voice.
First, he did not display one ounce of attitude or ego. For all his fame, experience and success, he was a genuinely lovely person to get to know.
I started with the fundamental question of how he became so successful with so many collaborations withso many legendary musicians. “I make a point of picking great musicians that are at the top of their game,” was his simple answer.
“After I did that a few times, I kept getting calls for more work, and that has been my career for a long time, I guess.”
“They heard something in my playing that they thought would work well with what they were doing at the time,” summarized Sanborn about many of the small and big-name acts he played with over five decades.
I think he was being very modest with that answer. When great musicians feel the need for a saxophone in their music, they can call a lot of talented players. Sanborn is at the top of a short list of the best sax players ever.
In 1972, The Rolling Stones asked me to tour with them. That was a huge tour with an insane number of fans at every tour venue. Because of the crowds, all of us went from our guarded floor of the hotel to the limos or buses, then to the stadium, the back on the bus, then to the airport — day after day, week after week.— David Sanborn
David Letterman Show” in the 90s.
This guy sounded like someone worth speaking with. So I accepted the offer from the publicist to chat on the phone.
Several days later, I received a text message
Born in Tampa, he was raised in St. Louis, where he suffered from polio for eight years. His doctor recommended the saxophone because it would exercise his lungs. We didn’t discuss much about his personal life, but he spent a lot of time living in New York City, where he still has an apartment, but his wife and two chihuahuas live in the countryside more these days.
We discussed his upcoming show in Pompano Beach. “I try to pick music to play that is appropriate for the audience and

SIX-TIME GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING JAZZ SAXOPHONIST David Sanborn
8 – 9:30pm
Universally known as one of the most iconic saxophonists of the current age, David Sanborn is a jazz musician at heart but has transcended genres and musical boundaries throughout his entire career. Sanborn has released 24 albums, won six Grammy Awards, and has had eight gold albums and one platinum. He continues to be one of the most active musicians of his genre and an inspiration to countless other musicians.
Rolling Stone has stated, “Among the great saxophonists of the past four decades, David Sanborn has earned an identity all his own. He’s jazz, he’s funk, he’s soul, he’s pop, he’s blues, he’s rock. Most remarkably, he excels in each genre with a voice that is forceful and tender, sensuous and subtle.”
venue . I try to find music that would fit. I do not spend a lot of time analyzing why people come to see me play, but I’m grateful they do.”
I pushed a little for him to explain why my readers who are unfamiliar with him, should consider attending his show on the beach in January.
“My wish is that they would be pleasantly surprised. When I see a performance, I want to be surprised. I like to hear something new or in a new way. I would hope they will hear the passion in how I and the band I’ve assembled play for audiences.”
I had time for one last question, so I went for the “Surely you must have a good story to share after so many years performing with literally some of the biggest names in music, television and movies.
He did not disappoint me with his answer,
but I can only share a quick overview.
“In 1972, The Rolling Stones asked me to tour with them. That was a huge tour with an insane number of fans at every tour venue. Because of the crowds, all of us went from our guarded floor of the hotel to the limos or buses, then to the stadium, the back on the bus, then to the airport — day after day, week after week.”
He described the wild, intense and surreal world of life on the road with one of the biggest bands ever at the height of their popularity. I promised I would not repeat several of the things he told me.
I do not think his performance in Pompano Beach in January will be quite the same as a Stones concert. Still, I think I will appreciate listening to and watching his performance, knowing that I am watching one of our country’s finest artists of his kind. Y

MEET THE Corinthians
BY SUSAN ROSSER
There’s a chance you’ve heard of the Corinthians but weren’t quite sure who they were. Is it a club? Are they associated with the Lighthouse Point Yacht Club? Were they featured in the movie “Caddy Shack?” Are sailor outfits involved?
I spoke with Leslie Baron, who recently completed her term as the club’s commodore. She enlightened me on all things Corinthian.
55 years ago, the club did indeed germinate as a social offshoot of the Lighthouse Point Yacht Club. A small group of Yacht Club members recognized the need for a stronger sense of community and camaraderie. They envisioned group travel and smaller, more intimate get-togethers than club-wide events. Hence, the Corinthians were born.

Scenes from the Corinthians Installation dinner at Mangiano’s in Boca Raton
Eventually, the Corinthians split off from the Yacht Club. In fact, many current members don’t even own a boat. However, Leslie added that when the club gets together for a day on the water, the boat owners invite the non-boaters along.
Nowadays, according to Leslie, most Corinthians are newly retired business owners and professionals looking for a way to meet new people and have some fun in the process. The commodore plans an annual trip, and they’ve often taken cruises. Last year, due to Covid concerns about cruise ships, about twenty members traveled together to Memphis. They also host many dinners and happy hours at local restaurants from Pompano to Boca Raton. Additionally, the group also gets together at members’ homes. Last year, they celebrated Valentine’s Day, St. Patricks Day and Cinco De Mayo in members’ homes.
The club currently boasts 55 members, and Baron is quick to add that the membership is skewing a bit younger these days.
If you are interested in becoming a Corinthian, the annual membership dues are $150 for an individual and $250 per couple. There is an application and screening process. For more information, contact Leslie Baron at lbaron120@aol.com.

Old Montreal Hotel Nelligan
Winter is gorgeous in South Florida. Summer — not so much. Now is the time to plan your escape from the heat. Why not travel north and over the border to Montreal, Canada and stay at the Hotel Nelligan? The property is in a historic building with plenty of old-world charm coupled with luxurious decor.
While the building may be reminiscent of the old world, the rooms and suites are furnished with a modern flare in juxtaposition to the centuries-old brickwork and historic architecture.
The hotel’s main restaurant, Merchant Boeuf Bar-Brasserie is known for its excellent aged beef and is also a fantastic happy hour spot. The Terrasse Nelligan is perfect to enjoy lunch, dinner or cocktails in the summer. For a more casual option, the Nellie Cafe is open all day for a coffee, a glass of wine or a quick bite.
The Hotel Nelligan is located in Old Montreal, the city’s oldest district. There are plenty of sites to explore, including the Notre Dame Basilica, Place Jaques-Cartier, and the Clock Tower, among many more sites and attractions. Or take a stroll around the neighborhood for a bit of retail therapy. Maison Pepin, a popular store selling everything from fashion to homegoods, is nearby. Y
