Making Miracles for Beginners

I WAS IN A TIKTOK-INDUCED STUPOR WHEN SUDDENLY BOBBI BROWN, THE MAKEUP MOGUL, WAS PEDDLING HER JONES ROAD MIRACLE BALM — APPARENTLY, THIS IS THE COSMETIC I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW I NEEDED. During the pandemic, my beauty routine pathetically dwindled down to showering. Yes, that counts. And if I am being completely transparent, there were days when even bathing was beyond my abilities.

But eventually, I grew tired of looking like a haggard llama and ventured forth in search of new cosmetics. Enter the Miracle Balm — my new go-to beauty product.

I was immediately captivated by the word miracle. Goodness knows I could use several. But it was Bobbi Brown’s pitch that Miracle Balm is makeup for people who don’t wear makeup that really intrigued me.

And while I do love the stuff, I really love the story behind the stuff.

When Bobbi Brown, the woman behind Jones Road, sold her eponymous makeup brand to Estee Lauder, she signed a 25-year noncompete agreement. Then after 25 years and one day, she launched Jones Road, her new beauty brand.

It would not be beyond reason to assume Bobbi Brown was set for life after selling to Estee Lauder. And yet she was still motivated to launch an entirely new label. She is either exceptionally driven, really into makeup or both.

A1A Hotel, Garage and Supermarket <<< an update on the status of

the project to the East CRA Advisory Committee in February.

E2L’s conceptual design of the project shows an 8-story tiered hotel built on top of the western portion of the parking garage. The pool and club deck would be built on top of the eastern portion of the garage. The grocery store would be in a groundfloor retail shell of the parking garage, fronting A1A. Hefferin said he has “talked to all of the local small grocers already,” such as Joseph’s Classic Market, Living Green and Doris Italian Market & Bakery.

“We’re not rushing that,” said Hefferin, “because that’s going to probably be the last component we put in.”

Hefferin said the hotel is currently projected to have about 200 rooms, although the property’s zoning allows up to 300 rooms.

State-of-the-art technology will be used to manage and control the efficiency of the parking garage, said Hefferin. Tag readers will help keep cars flowing by eliminating the need for cars to stop and wait when entering and exiting the garage.

The City would be responsible for financing the costs associated with constructing the garage and brick driveway; the developer would be responsible for the cost of constructing the hotel, deck and grocery store. E2L’s team of experts – which includes an architect, engineer and a general contractor – would be responsible for constructing both the public sector and private sector components of the project.

“We think that this project is going to introduce some new and exciting amenities for the residents,” said Sibble, notably the small grocery store

and the event space.

The event space will include two levels above the hotel featuring 360-degree views of the surrounding Intracoastal Waterway and Atlantic Ocean. The event space is currently planned as 20,000 square feet indoors, and 10,000 square feet outdoors.

The space will be designed to accommodate various types of events, including weddings, nonprofit fundraisers and corporate functions.

Hefferin said most events will occur between 6pm and 10pm, with 80% of the attendees arriving between 6pm and 7pm. Those driving vehicles are estimated to be 50% of the attendees; others will

Sibble said the City’s objective is to finance the public sector components with a combination of parking fees from the Oceanside parking garage that will be constructed; tax increment revenues generated from the private sector components; and developer lease payments for being able to construct on City-owned land.

The final budget and financing plan are still being worked out, but Sibble estimates the City’s portion of the project will be in the “mid-$30 million” range, including about $26 million for the parking garage itself.

The developer estimates the Oceanside mixed-use project will create approximately 400 jobs. Sibble

Hefferin said he and his team have been meeting with the operators of the Hilton hotel in the Pompano Beach Fishing Village “trying to coordinate how we could be good stewards of each other’s efforts here.”

Hefferin anticipates that expansion of the Pompano Circuit micro-transit system will reduce vehicular traffic in the area.

the Pompano Beach Fishing Village, from 2015 to 2021, there was a $134 million (38%) increase in the East CRA district’s valuation and an additional $1.7 million in the district’s tax increment funds.

In June 2020, the City Commission gave its approval to negotiate a development agreement with E2L Real Estate Solutions. E2L, based in Winter Park, was one of three firms short-listed in the first phase of the search for a qualified master developer, which was initiated in early 2019.

According to a tentative project timeline, the development agreement is expected to go to the City Commission for a second reading and approval in May 2022.

In November 2022, the remaining design process and final pricing is expected to be completed. A contract with a guaranteed maximum price for the City’s components of the project (the garage and driveway) would go to the City Commission for approval in December 2022. All components of the financing would be closed by February 2023. Permitting would run simultaneously from November 2022 to May 2023.

If the City Commission approves the guaranteed maximum price contract, the developer would receive a notice to proceed in June 2023. Construction of the parking garage and driveway would be completed by October 2024. Hefferin said the garage should take nine months to one year to build, with the possibility of opening it ahead of the rest of the construction being finished.

The hotel, event space/conference center and club deck would open in December 2025. Construction of the small grocery store along A1A would be completed in September 2026. Y

Isle Casino Redevelopment: Plans for a Topgolf Facility are Under Review A Topgolf facility is being proposed as part of the redevelopment of the Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park into Live! Resorts Pompano — an entertainment, hotel, dining, retail, residential and office hub. Plans for the Topgolf sports entertainment venue have been submitted to the City and are currently under review.

The proposed Topgolf facility would occupy an approximately 11-acre vacant parcel on the southeast corner of SW Third Street (Racetrack Road) and SW 23rd Ave (Lucky Lane), north of the existing Isle Casino building.

The entire Isle Casino property, located on the southeast corner of Powerline Road and Racetrack Road, is being redeveloped by The Cordish Companies, which has already constructed 12 Live! facilities in cities throughout the United States, including Atlanta, Baltimore, St. Louis and Philadelphia.

The Topgolf facility is being developed by ARCO/Murray, a national design-build contractor with an office in Fort Lauderdale.

The Topgolf venue would feature a state-of-the-art three-level building that includes 102 climate-controlled hitting bays for year-round play, a full-service restaurant and bar,

Mayla Pompano 355-Unit Multifamily Development Breaks Ground A 355-unit development planned for the parking lots behind the former Bank of America and Chase Bank buildings on East Atlantic Boulevard broke ground last month. The two parking lots sit on opposite sides of NE 24th Avenue, just west of Publix.

The project, formerly called Pompano Station, is now named Mayla Pompano.

An 8-story building with 208 residential units will be built on the 1.6-acre lot behind the former Bank of America building, located at 2335 E. Atlantic Blvd., on the west side of NE 24th Avenue.

An 8-story building with 147 residential units will be built on the 1.2-acre lot behind the former Chase Bank building, located at 2401 E. Atlantic Blvd., on the east side of NE 24th Avenue.

Although Bank of America and Chase Bank no longer occupy the buildings at 2335 and 2401 E. Atlantic Blvd., and their names have been removed from the façades, the two properties remain active office buildings.

The developer behind the Mayla Pompano project is Grover Corlew, the Boca Raton-based real estate investment management group that owns the two office buildings and the associated parking lots. Grover Corlew recently launched a new portfolio of multifamily residences under the brand name of Mayla Residences. The first property to be constructed under the Mayla Residences umbrella will be Mayla Pompano.

The residential units in Mayla Pompano will be market rate rental units, with 53 units of affordable workforce housing. Mayla Pompano will be the first new development in

the East Transit Oriented Corridor (ETOC) to meet the requirement of providing a minimum of 15% of the housing units as affordable, rather than opt out by paying a fee per unit.

The two Mayla Pompano residential buildings feature one-, two- and three-bedroom units, as well as studios. Floorplans range in size from 548 square feet to 1,383 square feet.

The residential buildings are courtyard-style and each has its own interior multi-level parking garage, with a combined 634 parking spaces. The parking structures will also serve the adjacent existing commercial buildings fronting Atlantic Boulevard.

Mayla Pompano amenities include a two-story clubroom, a 24/7state-of-the-art fitness center and yoga-aerobics room, co-working space, a TV lounge, two resortstyle pools with cabanas, outdoor kitchens with seating at both buildings, storage cages and a dog spa. Plans include 60,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.

tax increment financing from the Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) in order to get the project off the ground. The taxes generated by the project will be used to help finance the project, which lies within the East CRA district.

Grover Corlew also recently secured $78.2 million in financing from PNC Bank, NA for the construction of the project.

In addition to the residential buildings, the developer will build a 6,932-square-foot public pedestrian plaza on the east side of the former Bank of America building in an area that is currently used for parking.

The developer will also carry out improvements to the façade of the building, which was built in the early 1960s. In addition, the ground floor will become either restaurant or retail space, and glazing will be added to open it up and encourage more pedestrian activity. The enhancements to the building are a condition of the CRA financing.

Mayla Pompano 355-Unit Multifamily Development Breaks Ground CONTINUED

The Mayla Pompano project includes a covered pedestrian bridge over NE 24th Avenue that will connect the two residential buildings at the third floor. It will be the first pedestrian bridge over a city street in Pompano Beach,

according to city officials.

In 2019, the developer of Harborside at Hidden Harbour, a 285-unit mixed-use project planned for the corner of North Federal Highway and NE 16th Street, requested approval of a pedestrian bridge over NE 23rd Avenue to connect two residential buildings, but the City Commission denied the request because it would have included putting dwelling units above the road right-of-way.

The Mayla Pompano pedestrian bridge extends into the City’s rightof-way, but does not include any residential units. In January, the

City Commission approved a license agreement with the developer to allow the pedestrian bridge.

Prior to it being considered by the City Commission, details of the pedestrian bridge were reviewed by the city engineer and other applicable City departments.

The pedestrian bridge is required to have a minimum clearance of 16 feet above the right-of-way. Per the license agreement, the developer will pay the City $1,000 per month for the use of the license area.

The Mayla Pompano project is currently expected to be completed

by July 2023. Y

City to Reimburse County $2.25 Million or Its Share of Shore Protection Project Costs Starting in November 2022, the City will begin repaying $2.25 million for its share of costs related to the County’s Segment II shore protection project that was completed in 2016. Per an agreement with the County recently approved by the City Commission, the City will make a payment of $750,000 to the County each November for three consecutive years.

The project consisted of the nourishment of approximately 4.94 miles of critically eroding shoreline within Segment II (Hillsboro Inlet to Port Everglades). About 693,200 cubic yards of compatible sand were placed on the subject beaches, including 146,900 cubic yards placed in Pompano Beach with a design taper extending down into

Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. Broward County has been responsible for the bill up until now, but with the sand placement completed, the state funds have been received and the percentages between the cities have been worked out.

The project cost is $51.4 million; however, it is not complete because there is an additional cost of $20 million to create a mitigation reef, which Broward County will be responsible for. The purpose of the reef is to offset unavoidable impacts to the nearshore hardbottom area as a result of the 2016 Segment II beach nourishment project. The reef, consisting of 4,114 individual concrete and limestone rock units, is being constructed off the coast of

Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, and once complete, will be 6.8 acres in size.

Public Works Director Robert McCaughan told the Commission there is an expectation that federal funds will be received for reimbursement of $39 million, but based on the history of previous projects, this could take up to 10 years. Once the funds are received, they will be shared among the cities and the County will reduce the total payment of the City from $2.25 million to $850,000. These funds are not yet appropriated by Congress and must be done each budget year, which is the reason for the long wait.

McCaughan noted that this project is separate from the beach nourishment project that began last year and is still underway. Y

City Encourages Development of Accessory Dwelling Units as Affordable Housing Source The City Commission, at its Jan. 25 meeting, adopted a zoning code change to help increase the availability of affordable rental housing in Pompano Beach. The new ordinance encourages the development of accessory dwelling units in single-family zoning districts for the purpose of renting them to extremely-low-income, very-low-income, low-income, or moderate-income individuals or families.

The city’s zoning code allows single-family properties to have a maximum of one accessory dwelling unit either within the same structure or on the same lot as the primary residence. For purposes of determining a property’s maximum density (dwelling units per acre), an accessory dwelling unit is considered a half dwelling unit.

However, under the revised zoning code, as an incentive, accessory dwelling units that will be used for affordable housing are allowed to be built without the need to calculate density. If an accessory dwelling unit were included in the density calculation, it might push the parcel over its density limits and disallow an otherwise lawful accessory dwelling unit from being built.

An affidavit from the property owner that attests the accessory dwelling unit will be rented at an affordable rate to extremelylow-income, very-low-income, low-income, or moderate-income individuals or families must be submitted as part of the building permit requirements if the unit is to be approved without a density calculation. The accessory dwelling unit can be up to 1,000 square feet, but cannot exceed the floor area of

the principal residence, and cannot encroach on any required setback for the principal structure.

Accessory dwelling units are commonly referred to as “motherin-law suites” or “granny flats.” Jean Dolan of the city’s Development Services Department said that if a mother-in-law meets the low- to moderate-income standards, she could live in the unit.

If the property owner doesn’t want to commit to the affordable housing requirement, an accessory dwelling unit can still be built, but the lot must be large enough to result in a total density of 1.5 dwelling units per acre.

According to the City’s code, an accessory dwelling unit may contain a separate kitchen, bathroom and sleeping area. An accessory

In 2011, the state of Florida enacted legislation that created the opportunity for accessory dwelling units without calculating density, in exchange for the commitment to provide affordable housing.

Broward County adopted this policy in the Broward County Land Use Plan in 2017, and the City of Pompano Beach adopted the same policy in 2020 as part of its updated Comprehensive Plan.

Dolan told the Commission that amending the zoning code was the final step necessary for the City to fully implement the opportunity for affordable accessory dwelling units to be approved without a density calculation. Y

It Dawned on Me

For the Ides of March, an Ode* to Rocky

BY DAWNE RICHARDS ACCORDING TO OXFORD LANGUAGES, AN “ODE” IS EITHER: “A LYRIC POEM IN THE FORM OF AN ADDRESS TO A PARTICULAR SUBJECT OFTEN ELEVATED IN STYLE OR MANNER AND written in varied or irregular meter, ” or “a poem meant to be sung.” What follows isn’t an ode; I took poetic license — see what I did there?

Shockingly, I digress.

Anyway, befitting his larger-than-life personality, my father, Rocky Harris, was born on New Year’s Day and died on Mar. 15, also known as the Ides of March. (Look it up! Do I have to do everything for you? Sheesh.)

His given name was Hercules Papaharris. Living in Hell’s Kitchen in New York City, he knew this was a “please stuff me in a locker” name. His buddies knew him as “Rocky Harris.” This worked great until the U.S. entered World War II when he and his buddies joined the service. The Lieutenant (or some scary Army person in charge) repeatedly called out “Hercules Papaharris,” getting madder and madder when no one answered. Finally, one of my dad’s friends leaned over and whispered to him, “Hey Rocky!

What kind of jerk would have a name like that?”

That settled it for my father. The day he got out of the service, he legally changed his name to “Rocky Harris.”

To say that my father had a unique view on life is a vast understatement. He doled out lots of advice, some of it great and some… not so much. In honor of the anniversary of his passing, I thought I’d share some of my favorites.

Rocky’s Good Advice • If you ever wake up and don’t want to go to work, you need to quit your job. You spend way too much time at work to be unhappy there.

• Don’t ever say, “I should’ve.” It’s much more likely that you’ll regret what you didn’t do. Note: This does not apply to boys or men (sorry, guys) who say, “Hey, watch this!”

• Always have a sense of humor. Note: He didn’t say this, but his sense of humor was legendary.

Rocky’s Other Advice • Don’t get life insurance. They’re betting you’re going to live long enough to pay all your premiums, and you’re betting you’ll die before that. Note: This is a terrible idea. I can’t stress this enough. A couple of years before he passed, my mother finally convinced him to take out a small policy, so I suppose he “won” the bet.

• It’s good to get really drunk on occasion… so drunk that you have a little trouble getting your key in the lock. Then when you hurl, it cleans out your system.

Me: “How often is “once in awhile?”

Rocky: “Maybe…once a…month.”

OMG. Another terrible idea. My father gave me this sage advice when I was about 19; when my mom and I returned from a trip, he took me aside and said, “I did something I haven’t done in years. I got drunk!”

Anyway, here’s to Rocky, the best dad ever. I’ll raise (just one martini) to you on Mar. 15. Y

Two Important Skills You Must Know

WE ARE APPROACHING OUR 19TH YEAR IN BUSINESS AS ELITE FORCE MARTIAL ARTS. WE OPENED ON JUN. 1, 2003. BACK THEN, I WAS AN EAGER 26-YEAR-OLD KID WHO HAD A dream of being successful. Fortunately, my mentor gave me some excellent advice. He encouraged me to commit to personal development. He influenced me to read for 30-minutes per day when I wake up in the morning and to listen to inspiring/ instructional audio programs every chance I got.

This advice changed my life! In 2005, I came across the bestselling author, Robert Kyosaki, talking about the two most essential skills you must have. They were much different than I expected. I was all ears! What is the first one?

The first one is having the ability to sell. The reality is we are all in sales. Parents sell their kids to develop good habits, do their homework, and be kind to others.

Doctors and people in the fitness industry sell you on taking care of your health and exercise regularly. Your Pastor, Priest, or Rabbi sell you on the idea of living a spiritual life.

I have a mentor who is a 15-time best-selling author. In fact, he wrote the best-selling book on sales of all time, called “The Little Red Book of Selling.” He says that to sell effectively, you must help the person you are working with.

Selling is nothing more than influence. You are influencing another person to take action, or in some cases, not to take a

specific action. In the dojo, we influence kids to be respectful, disciplined and focused. We sell people on the idea of eating the right foods, training regularly, and giving their best effort. Think of some of the most successful people and companies. Maybe it is Apple, Starbucks or Google. You to use their products because they add value to your life.

The reality is that everyone is in sales, and if you are adding value to people’s lives, then you should get out there and influence people into action.

What is the second most important skill? Managing money!

Many schools do not teach this financial skills such as how to balance a checkbook, pay themselves first, or make emergency plans if they deal with a financial crisis.

Every year, people spend massive amounts of money on holiday gifts. In many cases, exceed their budgets, leaving them with credit card debt. Instead of entering the new year with a renewed excitement, they start the year higher levels of stress, worry, and anxiety because they have too much month at the end of their money.

How much more enjoyable would the holidays be if everyone put a small amount of money aside from each paycheck to pay for holiday gifts?

What would happen if everyone adopted the idea of “pay yourself first” and had money set aside for unexpected bills, emergencies, and savings for retirement? I’ll bet their stress levels would drop drastically!

Suzie Orman is a best-selling author on money management, and she says that everyone should have an emergency fund set aside of 8 months of expenses in case of an emergency, such as job loss, injury, etc.

Money is certainly not the most crucial thing in the world, but it is right up there with air. You need it to survive. Why not learn how to manage it to make your life easier and better.

WHAT’S IN A NAME

Many of us run around town without taking the time to learn about the namesakes of our public spaces. I can’t tell you how many times, while stopped at a red light on Federal Highway, I’ve wondered, “Who was Dennis Myers, and why does he have a street named after him?” A few good people have been honored with parks, streets, and even a pier.

KESTER COTTAGES

The Kester Cottages at Founder’s Park is the home of the Pompano Beach Historical Society and a museum dedicated to preserving the history of our region. They were built by brothers William and Stuart Kester after moving here in the 1920s. The brothers went on a spree of home-building, creating a recognizable local style of home that came with then-modern amenities like plumbing and running water. They became so successful that they eventually donated land back to the city, which would become Pioneer park. Only a handful of the cottages remain today.

THE FISHER FAMIILY PIER

Officially named after former Pompano Mayor Lamar Fisher, his family’s civic involvement in the community has spanned more than a century and, as such, bears the family name. The newly-constructed pier is almost a kilometer in length; almost as long as the Fisher family has been active in the community. The family’s involvement began at the very beginning, Clinton Lyons, Lamar’s great-grandfather, signed the articles of incorporation for Pompano Beach in 1908. His grandfather, Louis Fisher, served as mayor as well.

FRANK MCDONOUGH PARK

Like many readers of this publication, I have spent quite a hefty chunk of my days on this Earth at Frank McDonough Park. It’s where countless first goals, touchdowns, and other priceless memories have been made, several of which belong to me. It was named after the late former Mayor Frank McDonough, who served our community for over two decades and was instrumental in our little town’s founding. He moved to what was going to become Lighthouse Point in 1954 with his family and was an avid tennis player.

DEGROFF PARK

This beautiful little sliver of land on the intercoastal waterway was originally just a spoil zone for dredged up waste. The 3-acre plot was named after Peggy DeGroff, who founded the Lighthouse Point Garden Club. Much of the park’s beauty today stems from the work and time of Roy Rogers, who has spent decades caring for the park across the street from his home. In 2019, Roy and his family donated $20,000 dollars to the park for improvements in the memory of his late wife, Susan Mandy Rogers. Butterfly World has also donated plants and wildlife to the serene little park.

SULLIVAN PARK

Just northwest of the Hillsboro Boulevard Bridge, the 3-acre parcel of land has largely gone unnoticed for much of existence, however, the park went under a nearly $4 million dollar renovation in 2017 and has since become a community hub. The park boasts watercraft rentals, a floating dock, a splash pad, and other play and hangout areas. The park was named after Robert Sullivan, who gifted the land to the city of Deerfield Beach in 1963. He was a prominent real estate developer responsible for several of the developments locals are familiar with like The Cove, Venetian Isles, and Crystal Lake, to name a few.

This is our first entry on our list that’s not a park, but is by no means less important. After leaving his Director of Engineering position at The Coca-Cola Company, Schorr served as Lighthouse Point’s mayor for more than a decade, securing himself a sterling reputation as someone who gets things done in a considered and respectful way. In addition to his reputation for cordiality and efficiency, he was everpresent at city events, often being the only city official to be at every event of the year. He was often described by his city colleagues as the best boss they’ve ever had.

DAN WITT PARK

As is the case with Frank’s park, I think we’ve all spent another rather large portion of our days at Dan Witt. Not to brag, but I did win the Halloween costume contest one year for my age.

Anyway, Witt was a Lighthouse point city commissioner and a collegiate athlete who started Lighthouse Point’s recreation program in 1958. He was actually one of the people to clear the field that became Frank McDonough Park.

DENNIS MYERS STREET

Dennis Myers called the Cresthaven neighborhood his home and spent a large portion of his life successfully trying to make it a better place. He was instrumental in Pompano Beach annexing the Cresthaven neighborhood, in fact. He was also president of the Cresthaven Neighborhood Watch and the homeowners association, along with being a lector at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. After his death, a friend Carol Waldrop successfully campaigned to name a street after Myers; a street he once successfully campaigned to have sidewalks installed on.

anatees have been in the news lately, so we decided to visit Crystal River, home to one of the few year-round populations of manatees that you can swim with in the wild.

Many springs hold schools of manatee during the winter months when the creatures congregate in the warmer water from the aquifer-fed springs — but to swim with them is a chilling experience for most people.

During the warmer months, most manatees forage in larger bodies of water and are more dispersed, making them harder to find in the wild with open space.

Crystal River is a top choice if swimming with a manatee is on your bucket list. Group tour boats, private guides, observation platforms are all available in Crystal River.

SWIM WITH THE MANATEES

There are many business offering opportunities to swim with the manatees. Most (if not all) will provide all needed gear.

Here are a few options.

Plantation at Crystal River On the other hand — world-class dining and impressive resort hotels? Crystal River is not the place. We suggest a vacation rental house. The hotel offerings are limited and disappointed us quite a bit. There is a Hampton Inn on the highway, just minutes from all the action, but a rental house with a river view is the way to go.

The Homosassa Springs and Crystal River area is also home to some near-shore fishing that will not excite avid anglers from South Florida, but could be fun and comfortable for less-experienced anglers. During July through early September, you can charter boats to dive for scallops, which seems popular.

We went to Crystal River with an open mind.

The area boasts natural beauty, but the attraction is limited to standard watersports and fishing recreation — and it is an excellent place to see manatees in the wild, which is a big thing.

I always clearly remember when I encounter animals in the wild. Recently, hundreds of manatees on the east coast of Florida have died of starvation due to reduced food supply from the effects of pollution. Problems of this kind have not been reported on the west coast. Long live the manatee! Y

WHILE YOU’RE THERE The Yulee Sugar Mill Ruins Historic State Park is not worthy of a dedicated expedition, but the ruins provide a half-hour of peering back in time if you are in the area. The days of slavery, sugar cane fields, and this steam-driven mill offer a picture of a time in Florida when men such as David Levy Yulee enslaved over 1,000 people at this farm to grow and process cash crops like sugarcane into syrup, molasses and rum.

This mill operated from 1851 to 1964, with a large amount of the product sold to the Confederate Army.

For a traditional German meal, try the wiener schnitzel — it’s divine — a lightly breaded veal cutlet sautéed in lemon butter and topped with homemade brown gravy. The spaetzle (German noodles) are a real homemade treat and not to be missed — throw a little of that brown gravy on them and they could be a meal unto themselves. The red cabbage is both classically sweet and sour and there are other side options too including potato dumplings, potato salad and even hot potato salad. As you look around, you can’t help but get the feeling that most of the patrons are returning customers. And the next time we get a hankering for some schnitzel, we know where to go.
