GOOD NEWS
Thanks for the Giving
F
or the past 21 years, The Three Mile Café and Store in Bonners Ferry has been serving hot turkey meals to anyone and everyone that stops by on Thanksgiving. Its an annual Thanksgiving tradition that the owner Chuck Quillin started when he saw that there was a need for it. “I had contemplated this for 3 years and finally one day decided that I would do it and let God take care of the details.” Quillin went on to say that “it’s a need and it’s something I can do to make a difference.” When asked how many turkey dinners they serve on any given Thanksgiving Quillin responded with “over four hundred”. With the ability to handle up to six hundred, there’s room for everyone who’s in need. “It’s free and open to everyone who stops in. Turkey, mashed potatoes and all the trimmings. It’s our way of saying thank you to those who have blessed us.” Chuck and his crew start serving meals at 10:30am until 1pm on Thanksgiving. The Three Mile Cafe and Store is located at 2113 Highway 95. To find out more, call 208.267.3513 or visit them at www.ThreeMileCorner.com.

Basket of Thankful Leaves! A great conversational center piece for the table and it’s easy! Just cut leaf shapes out of colorful paper or paper bags, write what you are thankful for on the leaves, put them in a basket or pretty bowl (you may want to give them a light fold in the middle so they fluff up a bit in the basket) and now they are ready for the table!! It’s great to hear some of the things the kids can come up with on their own! Photo and Craf

ACTIVITIES AND FUN Great Jokes! Hammer During a home renovation, my grandfather was watching me drive in nails. “You hammer like lightning,” he said. “Really?” I replied, flattered. “You never strike the same place twice.” Interstate Inspiration Four guys are driving across country together: one from Idaho, one from Nebraska, one from Florida and one from New York. A short way down the road, the man from Idaho starts to pull potatoes from his bag and throws them out the window. The man from Iowa turns to him and asks, “What the heck are you doing?” The man from Idaho says, “We have so many of these things in Idaho they’re lying around on the ground. I’m sick of looking at them!” A few miles down the road, the man from Nebraska begins pulling ears of corn from his bag and throwing them out the window. The man from Florida asks, “What are you doing that for?” The Nebraskan replies, “We have so many of these things in Nebraska, I’m sick of looking at them!” Inspired by the others, the man from Florida opens the car door and pushes the New Yorker out.
Highest Number Recently while we were eating lunch after church one Sunday, my youngest son asked me what the highest number I had ever counted up to was.
Salvation Army Don’t spend $2 to dry-clean a shirt. Donate it to the Salvation Army instead. They’ll clean it and put it on a hanger. Next morning buy it back for 75 cents.
I said I didn’t know. Then I asked him how high he has counted.
Fish What did the fish say when he hit the wall? DAM!!
“5,372,” came the prompt reply. “Oh,” I said. “Why did you stop there?” “The sermon was over.” Engineer Husband A wife says to her engineer husband, “Could you please go to the store for me and buy a carton of milk. And if they have eggs, get six.” A short time later the husband comes back with six cartons of milk. The wife asks, “Why the heck did you buy six cartons of milk?” “They had eggs.” Shrinking Patient A man rushed into the doctor’s office and shouted, “Doctor! I think I’m shrinking!”
Eskimos Why do Eskimos wash their clothes in Tide? Because it’s too cold “out tide!” Boom-A-Rang What do you call a boom-a-rang that doesn’t come back? A stick! Pizza Delivery I deliver pizza to help cover my college tuition. Once I called on customers who sent their seven-year-old son to pay me. As he approached the screen door, I noticed he was carrying a check in one hand and two dollars in the other, which I assumed was my tip.
The doctor calmly responded, “Now, settle down. You’ll just have to be a little patient.”
To my dismay, he pocketed the bills before handing me the check, which was for the exact cost of the pizza.
Married People Know why a room full of married people looks so empty?
“Could that have been a tip?” I asked, trying not to sound accusatory.
There’s not a single person in it.
“Yep,” he replied proudly. “Not bad for just a walk from the living room and back!”
