McCarty’s Sacro-Ease A CURE FOR A BAD BACK Do you have a tired back? Do you have a bad back or do you just drive/sit for many hours a day. We have the cure – it is an insert into a car seat or office chair. Take it with you anywhere – use it anywhere. The Sacro Ease will fix your broken down car seat, it will enable you to sit comfortably at church, athletic events, restaurants~ virtually anywhere you sit we have a seat that can be bent for your back. Driving and sitting is one of the worst things we can do to our body. When we are not properly supported the back naturally goes into a “c” curve – the proper curve is an “s” Curve. When properly supported your hips/tailbone are positioned so that your lumbar area curves in toward your stomach and the Sacro Ease will fill in the void in the curve in your spine. You do not have to think about how you sit – just lean back and enjoy the ride! The rubber supports on the inside of the fabric are wrapped around a steel frame that is bent for your back. When you are driving on our awful roads the road vibration actually compresses your vertebrae and smashes your discs. When this happens a message is sent to your brain that you are in pain and this causes fatigue.

If you do not have a bad back, if you have a new car – our product is still effective. I can prevent your back pain. If your new car’s seats are not comfortable the Sacro Ease can fix the issue and stop you from losing money by getting rid of your new ride. Are you seeing a physical therapist, chiropractor or massage therapist – the Sacro Ease will help maintain what they are accomplishing! So by having a Sacro Ease you are supported, have less fatigue and will help your back stay healthy! We have models for virtually any vehicle or piece of machinery. If we do not have one in stock we can make one specifically for you as they are all made right in Kootenai County. For 72 years we have been making posture correction products for the entire world. Made of durable automotive grade fabric – we warranty our products for 5 years – no proration – the entire 5 years are covered. Simply bring to the factory and we will repair or replace your unit! The product is very affordable – ranging from $100 to 350 we DO have one that will fit your needs!

The SACRO-EASE Posture Seat insert is recommended by medical professionals nationwide and was designed by our company's founder who once suffered severe low back pain while driving and a team of top orthopedic surgeons.

“Wow. Now I am like my patients, don’t want to give it up. Your seats have been a life or back saver for my patients. I just bought a new car and there is now way I could sit in the seat without the Sacro Ease!” - John H. D.O

“We have had a Sacro Ease now for about 15 years and can’t imagine life without one. Our first one was used and lasted a full 15 years. We are now purchasing a new one!” - Judy B.

Tis the Season for Repetitive Motion Injuries BROUGHT TO YOU BY COEUR D’ALENE HAND THERAPY & HEALING CENTER

N

o, it is not winter any more. It is the season when the sun shines more, the snow is gone, the work in the garden beckons, outdoor sports and activities intensify. Even if you have been working out at the gym all winter, repetitive motion injuries can limit your activities and enjoyment. Often old injuries or ones sustained in the winter, such as a fall, may flare up if they were untreated even if they seemed to have gone away. The increased activity and positions of stress, such as leaning far over in the garden, twisting and pulling can cause repetitive motion injuries. These are also caused by repeated movements, postures held for long periods of time and awkward positions. Repetitive motions can cause microscopic tears in the tissue with pain, swelling, stiffness and sometimes tingling or numbness if pressure is put on sensitive nerves. Tendonitis of wrist, elbow, shoulder are common, but repetitive stress is also felt in the hands, back, neck and legs. The “itis” refers to inflammation. Standard treatment is rest, ice and anti-inflammatory medication. Also the microscopic tears may heal, but become tight due to scarring. Re-injury occurs if the cause is not addressed. Often the symptoms will return and in the worst case situation become chronic - some requiring surgery.

Because these are soft tissue injuries and cause myofascial (connective tissue) restriction, they often do not show up on testing. Also if left untreated, other parts of the body compensate and become overworked, which sets them up for injury as well. The most important thing is to pay attention to your body. Warm up before activities and take breaks at least every half hour. Use the proper tools for the job. Change positions and change tasks if you can, to use different muscles. Drink water to keep hydrated. If you have pain during an activity - stop. Assess it and do not force through pain. You may need to rest the injured area, use ice or a topical preparation or take an anti inflammatory. However, if the symptoms persist or seem severe be sure to follow up. From a therapy point of view, the approach would be to assess the tissue tightness, posture, pain, movement, swelling, any tingling or numbness and look at your activities. Treatment is focused to first release what is tight and get you out of pain. Myofascial release is especially effective for these types of injuries. Re-education regarding your activity, including tools and movement patterns, can determine changes to make that reduce the risk of injury. A home program of stretches, strengthening and self treatment techniques round out the program to help you meet your goals of having an active and pain free summer!

Local Co-Op Advertising A WIN/WIN PROPOSITION

A

n easy way for a small business to expand its marketing budget is through cooperative advertising. Cooperative advertising, or as sometimes abbreviated “Co-op”, is when a producer of goods, for use by service providers or for resale, reimburses the advertising business in part or in full for advertising expenditures that involves its products. These programs are widely available because quite simply they save the producers of goods money. Bottom line is that local advertising rates available to the advertising business are at least 20% lower than national advertising rates. Therefore, the benefit for the producers of goods is increased brand recognition within that market at the lower local advertising rates, enhanced reseller relations and much more. However, cooperative advertising programs are an integral part of the producers own strategic marketing plan and for this reason they may not only vary from producer to producer but from product to product. Also, because these programs are an integral part of the producers strategic marketing plan, stringent rules and regulations are often placed on cooperative advertising dollars. These rules and regulations may cover media channels chosen, product placement, ad positioning and size and much more. Cooperative advertising is a win/win proposition for the producer and advertising business. These programs allow producers to increase brand recognition in the market at the much lower local advertising rates and allow the advertising business to increase its marketing budget at no additional cost to the business. All small businesses should actively pursue these valuable cooperative advertising opportunities. Make Beer, Make Wine

HEALTHY LIVING

You Are Already a Perfect You

My Sweet Tooth (ADAPTED FROM THE ORIGINAL) Let me tell you about how sugar got me It got me good and I hope it’ll be-Inspiration for you, perhaps a diversion To help you make choices for healthy conversion. I grew up loving sugar in all its form Like candy, cereal, and food that’s “norm.” I had a sweet tooth, oh my! Did I! And cavities to boot, but I didn’t cry. One year I sure learned my lesson well And if I could help you, please let me tell-What you put in your body today really does matter Because later it might cause your body to shatter. I was living in the countryside of France Where yummy food put me in a trance… Like baguettes and cheese and chocolate pleasures And so much more—yummy, yummy treasures! From morning to night I would delight In such rich and sugary foods I realized much later how my moods Were wrought inside by the sugar fight. I moved there in June and then by October I was weekly to see “Monsieur Docteur”. One time I had cramps so severe in my belly I couldn’t stand up! I was flat like jelly! That was the prelude to a bladder infection Try peeing when it burns to high heaven! Then appeared a yeast infection I had to fight... I itched in my privates for a fortnight! Bronchitis, coughing and sneezing were standard I had snot and mucous that dripped and meandered! I gained twenty pounds, which for some might not matter But for me, a slight lady, it certainly didn’t flatter! The worst thing of all—and the blessing as well-Was fatigue as debilitating as a broken bell. My body took over and told me “Go home!” I was so angry, and twisted and drone. What went wrong? Why was I so sick? Why was my body playing this trick? Back in the States my sister took one look And handed me my first life-saving book. It told me about sugar’s major downside... How it leaves the body sick and vulnerable on the inside And feeds the ruthless bacteria “candida” which can hide As the root cause of many diseases body-wide. I didn’t know it then but I sure know it now That everything we eat affects us somehow Sugar and such kills the sweetness inside And leaves you wondering if there’s a bright side. My whole life has changed through that little un-ease I hope to help others before theirs is dis-ease Food creates health but you have to CHOOSE it And let go of foods that makes you LOSE it I hope my story has given you pleasure Perhaps motivation to take some measure Of feeding the sweetness inside of you Not with sugar and sweeteners and refined goo But with the real foods that truly do. SMART MONEY

BY DAVE SCHMITZ-BINNALL

T

here is really only one goal in life, that is, to be you and to be you as well as you possibly can. Over the twenty odd years that I’ve been working with people on how to improve their lives I still find it exciting to see the way in which everything seems to start falling into place for them, once they find their true self and begin living out of that. The problem is, most of us spend our lives trying to be something other than our true selves. We try to live up to what we think is expected of us – or – what we believe a person like us ought to be. This expectation comes from all around us society, parents, teachers, ministers, the media etc. We are surrounded by continual, relentless and staggering pressure to “be a particular way”, to “look a particular way” to have “particular dreams goals and ambitions” to hold “particular beliefs and values” to have a “particular type of job or profession” or a “particular level of education” and so on. To make matters worse – by the time we are in our twenties, most of these expectations are so deeply embedded within our mind that we believe that they are our own ideas! Most of us end up mistakenly believing that our true self is somehow inadequate, faulty, useless or just plain bad. Instead, we create, in our minds, an image of an ‘ideal self’ which exemplifies everything that we think we ought to be. Now we dedicate the rest of lives to the pursuit of this ideal. Sadly, most of us are doomed to either fail in this pursuit, get stuck somewhere along the way or sabotage ourselves. In some cases, we achieve the goals of the ideal self but still find our lives unsatisfying and unfulfilling. The solution is to make what I call the return journey to our true self. Everyone can do this, with some help and guidance. Unfortunately, many people are scared to make this journey because they have come to believe (mistakenly) that there is something wrong with whom they really are and that they will not like their true self. My response to people who are afraid of rediscovering their true selves is to point out that God doesn’t create rubbish. We are not born into the world alienated from ourselves. We are, in fact, born into the world as a perfect us. Uniquely talented and gifted - endowed with everything we need for a successful, happy fulfilled life. Thankfully, even though this person gets buried or suppressed, he/she is still there, it is not possible to destroy it. Next month I will talk about ways to begin this journey and how you can change the way you look at life so that you can increase your self-belief, self respect, self-confidence and decrease your stress and anxiety.

Indoor Air Quality - There is Something in the Air FIVE WAYS TO BREATHE EASY THIS SPRING

N

ow that the last few weeks of winter are finally winding down, it’s time to think about warmer weather, opening the windows, and of course doing some spring cleaning. Speaking of cleaning, have you stopped to consider how clean the air is within your home? You might be surprised to learn that the air you and your family breathe each day may contain pollutants such as: • Pollen • Mold • Volatile Organic Compounds • Dust Mites • Pet Dander • Smoke & Dust Over time this can negatively affect your health in a number of ways, including aggravated allergies, increased chance for asthma attacks via airborne triggers, and illness caused by reactions to poisonous toxins and bacteria in the air. Here are 5 ways you can stay healthy by maintaining high indoor air quality in your home: 1. Cleaning Your Air Conditioner – One of the best things you can do is to clean your air conditioner inside and out on a regular basis. A properly maintained AC will not only help keep your air clean (and you healthy), but the system will also function more efficiently and last longer, thus saving you money. 2. Replace Your Air Filters – Changing or cleaning out your air filters regularly is one of the easiest and most important parts of air conditioner and furnace maintenance. These air filters are your number one line of defense against all manner of indoor air pollutants, but

if they become saturated, they can no longer do their job. 3. Duct Cleaning – Air ducts circulate your air throughout your home and happen to also be a very attractive place for dust, pollen, mold and other contaminants to collect. Every few years it’s important to have your ducts professionally cleaned to ensure they aren’t harboring dangerous contaminants that can spread throughout your home. How long since you’ve had your ducts cleaned? Have you ever? 4. Humidifiers – Proper humidity balance not only means improved comfort, but it also helps to minimize dust problems. Low humidity leads to more dead skin and dust in the house, while high humidity can promote the development of dust mites. 5. Electronic Air Cleaners – An electronic air cleaner can remove up to 99.98% of airborne allergens from all the air that is heated or cooled, making it 100 times more effective than a 1” filter. For more information about how you can improve the air quality in your home, call R&R Heating & Air Conditioning at 208.765.9355 or visit www.randrheating.com.

10 Reasons Seniors Hang On To Stuff BROUGHT TO YOU BY HOME INSTEAD SENIOR CARE

F

ollowing, from the Home Instead Senior Care© network and Vickie Dellaquila, certified professional organizer and author of Don’t Toss My Memories in the Trash, are 10 reasons seniors can’t or won’t give up their stuff and what to do about it. 1. The Sentimental Attachment The beloved prom dress represents the history and memories of the event; it’s not the dress itself. Save only a piece of the dress to make a quilt or display in a shadow box. Scrapbooking and converting photos to DVDs are other ways to save treasured keepsakes without all the extra mess. 2. The Sense of Loyalty Older adults who received gifts from family and friends may be reluctant to part with them. Encourage your loved one to give unused gifts back to the giver or grandchildren. 3. The Need to Conserve Seniors are the original green people. Appeal to a senior’s desire to help others. “You went through a Great Depression, now it’s time for you to let go and help someone else.” Counter a senior’s inclination to conserve by appealing to their desire to give back. 4. The Fatigue A home with a lifetime of memories can easily become too much for an older adult to handle. Help seniors manage clutter by establishing online bill paying. Also, get your senior off junk mail lists, which can put them at risk for identity theft and buy them a shredder. 5. The Change in Health Seniors who have suffered a brain trauma or stroke, who are wheelchair bound or who are experiencing dementia may no longer be able to manage household duties, which could contribute to clutter. If you see a health change, encourage your senior to visit his or her doctor and consider a professional organizer and caregiver to help your loved one. 6. The Fear Seniors often fear what will happen if they give up their stuff, like the older adult who saved three generations of bank statements. Use logic and information to help seniors understand it’s okay to let go.

10 WWW.NEWSLINESONLINE.COM

7. The Dream of the Future Those clothes in the closet don’t fit anymore, but your loved one is sure that some day she’ll lose enough weight to get into them. Ask seniors to fill a box with clothing they don’t wear much and make a list of the items in the box. Agree that if they have not gone back to the box in six months to wear the item, they will donate it to charity. 8. The Love of Shopping Today’s seniors have more money than any other previous generation of older adults and they love to shop. Clutter can become so bad that seniors can’t find things and they repurchase items they already have, contributing to the clutter cycle. Try to convince seniors to cut back and to say “no” to free stuff. 9. The History and Memories Keepsakes represent history and memories. Encourage seniors to take old photos to a family reunion and share with several generations. Let seniors know they can contribute to the history of their time and leave a lasting legacy by donating to museums and historical societies, a theater and library, or churches and synagogues. 10. The Loneliness Stuff can become a misplaced companion. Loneliness may also lead to depression, which make it difficult for seniors to get organized. Consider the services of a professional organizer and caregiver. For more information, go to the National Association of Professional Organizers at www.napo.net, or visit www.homeinstead.com. For Better, For Worse COMMUNICATING ABOUT RETIREMENT

A

recent survey suggests that many couples are not communicating clearly about retirement goals and strategies, even as they approach retirement age. The couples surveyed were at least 46 years old with a minimum annual household income of $75,000 or at least $100,000 in investable assets.

Preparing for retirement can be a major challenge. Making sure you and your other half are in agreement and working toward common goals may help you avoid wasted effort and lost opportunities. Are you ready to talk? A financial review with an independent financial advisor may help you bring clarity to this ever so daunting task. We never talk product at your no cost, no obligation financial review. We will only ask and answer questions, so that you may determine if we are the right fit for your retirement planning wants and needs.

Only 41% said they handle decisions on retirement savings and investments together, and 73% disagreed on whether they had a detailed strategy for retirement income. Many couples also disagreed on when they would retire and whether they would continue to work in retirement.

In general, wives expressed less confidence than husbands about handling retirement-related financial decisions (see chart). This trend is of special concern considering that women often have longer life expectancies than men and may eventually have to make financial decisions on their own.

Talk It Over Recognizing and working through these kinds of issues could help prevent unpleasant outcomes. Even if you and your spouse communicate well about retirement, it may be helpful to discuss these basic topics: • When each of you plans to retire. Where you would like to live. What kind of lifestyle you envision. • Whether either or both of you plan to continue with some type of work. • How much income you expect when you retire, your expected sources of income, and your confidence in the amounts they could provide. • How well you both understand your investments. Whether you both know where official documents are located and have all necessary account information.

Poker Walk sheets are available for huge cash prizes. Check out www.cdadowntown.com for more details, or call the Coeur d’Alene Downtown Association. Below Article by Janna Rankin Scharf Part of what makes Coeur d’Alene such a wonderful place to live are the many varied community events. Next month get ready to “Rev up your weekend” at Car d’Lane! I had the good fortune to grow up at 9th and Sherman, back in the day when cruising Sherman was an art form! If I wasn’t cruisin’, I was sitting on the big front porch of my turn of the century stately Victorian house with bunches of friends, waving at the cruisers who honked as they passed. The yellow car in the photo below was taken from my porch vantage point of yesteryear at last year’s Car d’Lane! Popular Car d’Lane, a two day cruise and car show, celebrates its 22nd anniversary June 15th with a Cruise on Sherman Avenue of pre-1972 cars. June 16th spend the day ‘talking cars’ with over 450 cars park right on the main streets of Coeur d’Alene from 8am-4pm. Trophies are awarded at 4pm for crowd and sponsor favorites.

Not just for car buffs, Car d’Lane, started in 1990, has turned into one of the Pacific Northwest’s premier annual car shows. It is one of the largest shows with the broadest variety of vehicles in the Pacific Northwest. A Collector Car auction is also taking place Saturday June 16th at the Coeur d’Alene Resort. Silver Auctions will be auctioning off about 80 collector cars Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. You can inspect those cars at Independence Point, adjacent to the city beach and park. The auction will take place between 12pm and 7pm. Silver Auctions ties nicely into the ambiance and pulls off a classy auction with an intimate, high customer service touch. And here’s an amazing bit of trivia, I met my husband cruising Sherman, and we just celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary! Come enjoy the shore of the Coeur d’ Alene lake with the whole family, cruise the town, play golf or tennis and then take in Coeur d’Alene’s abundant open air night life. Neurofeedback is an alternative natural therapy that is non-invasive, non-pharmaceutical, and requires almost no effort on the part of the trainee. Also known as EEG Biofeedback It can train brainwaves to develop and utilize more efficient neural pathways. In doing so the brain is taught to get “in the zone” and function at peak performance levels. Since the brain is our master regulator, quality of life may be improved in a variety of ways. Studies have shown statistically significant improvement in pain, sleep, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, flashbacks, nightmares, seizures, migraines, memory loss. Evidence also supports improvements in behaviors associated with attentiveness, impulsivity, resistance, distractibility, even IQ is often improved. UCLA studies show that, coupled with Rehab, Counseling, or a 12 step program Neurofeedback training can reduce the incidence of addiction relapse by up to 77%. Under a Doctor’s supervision some are able to reduce or eliminate the need for certain medications. Neurofeedback trains the brain to improve mental focus, peak performance, and quality of life for students, athletes, professionals, seniors, and anyone who wants to reduce their stress, think more clearly, and perform better in their daily life. Is Your Dog Ready for Summer? PREVENT YOUR DOG FROM GETTING DISEASES

S

ummer is almost here and if you haven’t already done so, you should make sure your dog is ready for another season outdoors. Most pet owners spend a good deal of time outside during the spring and summer months, taking their pets along to share in the fun, but also exposing them to fleas, ticks and other animals that can be carriers of rabies and other diseases. Every dog should be permanently protected from distemper, infectious hepatitis and leptospirosis. These vaccines are now generally combined in one single inoculation. From the age of 6 months, all dogs should also be protected from rabies. Most vaccines are effective for one year, although the latest rabies shot is good for four. They are almost 100 percent effective when administered on schedule, but worthless if exposure to risk is maintained after the protection has expired. After your initial visit, you will normally need to take your dog to the vet only once a year to keep his immunization up to date. During this annual visit, ask him to give your dog a thorough examination, including checkup of his: -teeth (removing tartar if necessary) -anal glands (emptying them if necessary) -nails (clipping them if necessary) -stool (if you think he may have worms) Females need more regular attention than males, especially if they are bred. When you wish to travel with your dog, you will be prepared for any state, federal or international requirement if you ask your vet for a certificate of good health and make sure that his vaccinations are in order before you leave. And make sure you NEVER leave your dog in a hot car for any amount of time. Many dogs die every year in hot cars. Dogs can’t cool down in hot cars, so it is best to leave a window down or provide a sun shield in addition to water. GoodDog

Duncan’s Pet Shop Duncan’s Pet Shop

In a cold Autumn morning, 29 years ago, pet lovers and their children opened the doors of the new Duncan’s Pet Shop and were greeted by the stomping hoofs of Clancy, the miniature horse. Steve and Jane Badraun, owners of Duncan’s Garden Center, saw the need for a new pet and pet supply store in a small, but growing Coeur d’Alene. Since both knew absolutely nothing about the pet business, they scoured North Idaho for talent. Cobb, a former pet shop owner, living in Moscow, Idaho was hired to supervise the building and operate the store. He moved his family to Coeur d’Alene and with Duncan’s employee, Laurie Reynolds readied for an opening in the late summer of 1983. The Badraun’s goal was to provide a small, convenient retail outlet with a knowledgeable staff to offer expert advice on pets and pet care. Under the watchful care of the 20+ year employees, Terri Kaiser, Vickie Moody and Laurie Reynolds, pet owners receive the finest service and products for their animals in a comfortable easy shopping experience. Duncan’s offers a wide range of pets and pet supplies, including reptiles, fish, birds, small furry critters, kittens and puppies. We carry premium pet foods such as Natural Balance. If you don’t find what you’re looking for we will happily order it for you. The store is open every day: Mon.–Sat., 9am-6pm & Sun. 10am-5pm. Coeur d’Alene—1302 North Government Way 208.667.0618

ear Paw Quilting & Bernina was established in 2002 after a set of coincidences united two ladies with the same interests: fabric & quilting. Kathryn Boss and Sandy Goedde met over a log cabin quilt, decided to go into business together and ten years later have one of the largest quilt shops in the Northwest. Kathryn was a long-time seamstress who fell in love with quilting after taking a class in 1990. Sandy learned to sew as a child and then majored in textiles and interior design in college. Both were from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and had mutual friends, but didn’t know one another when the local quilt shop closed. “I had looked into buying it,” Kathryn says. “But I still had two kids at home and knew it would take a lot of hours, so I was looking for a business partner.” “We had a lot in common and just hit it off.” Sandy said. Bear Paw opened in October of 2002 with 1800 square feet. Within the two years of business Bear Paw expanded twice to

Customers describe the view inside as awe-inspiring. High ceilings, good lighting and hundreds of samples accent the vast number of bolts, bundles and displays. Our goal is to present customers with a multitude of choices and then help them navigate the options. Bear Paw Quilting’s staff of 12 is knowledgeable and ready to help with each project. Two classrooms accommodate two dozen teachers in quilting and sewing classes. Bear Paw offers many technique and project based classes, open sewing sessions, clubs and block of the month classes.

Coeur d’Alene High School Highlights STUDENT RADIO BROADCASTING CHAMPION AND STUDENTS HELI-SKIING IN BRITISH COLUMBIA By Lainey Hubbs—Staff Writer

ollin Ruane (photo below), senior, for the second consecutive year, won the state championship in radio broadcasting. Mimi Price, senior, placed sixth in salesmanship, was also a finalist. The two were among the debaters who qualified for state speech April 12-13 in Rexburg.“I felt really good about how I performed at state speech,” Ruane said. “I made it to semi-finals in both of my events and I obviously won Radio after that.”Among the semifinalists were: Ruane in oratorical analysis; Jazzy Stidham, junior, in oratorical analysis; Kirk Abolafia, sophomore, in salesmanship; Kyle Jackson, junior, in extemporaneous; and Emma Rosenthal, sophomore, in expository.

hile most students flee to the tropics during spring break, two CHS students went north to find more snow. John Campbell, junior, and Kyle Nennecker, freshman (pictured below), spent a few days out of their spring break heli-skiing in British Columbia.Campbell and Nennecker went heli-skiing with the Selkirk Tangiers Heliskiing Company near Calgary in the Canadian Rockies. The skiing lasted over four hours, and they went on five runs. “There was three feet of powder, pillow lines, and cliffs,” Campbell said. The helicopter took them up to 8,600 feet above sea level. “The helicopter journey was really windy, but the pilot was experienced,” Nennecker said. “It was an entertaining and cool ride.” The area they skied has been filmed for various movies, such as “The Art of Flight”. There were three groups of eight skiing. Nennecker said it was solid, smooth, backcountry skiing with panoramic views in remote, snow-capped mountains. Both students took Go-pro cameras and filmed their escapades. The helicopter dropped them off on a tiny, barren peak, which Campbell said trumped even the best of days at local ski mountains. The skiing featured wide open, flowing bowls and navigating paths through the trees. “It was a great adventure,” Campbell said, “but it would have been better with the rest of PDS members by our side.” PDS stands for Powder Day Saints, a group of CHS skiing friends, according to Campbell. “It was simply just a lot of fun,” Campbell said. “I recommend every skier to do it in their life.”

Those who qualified for, and attended the tournament also included: Dillon Johnson, junior; Cody Heinig, freshman; Dyson Savage, sophomore; Joe Robbins, sophomore; Molly Draben, sophomore; Madison Renaldo, sophomore; Brooke Wolford, freshman; and Sierra Lile, junior. Among those who qualified for state, but did not attend were: Yvette Schoutens, sophomore; Dana Savage, senior; Will Kennedy, sophomore; Erin Fowler, freshman; and Braden Ridgewell, sophomore. Both Ruane and Price were impressed with their placement in the competition. “I think that everyone gave their 100 percent and that we all should be proud of the fact that two people did make it to finals,” Price said. “The chance to qualify for state my senior year at the last debate tournament I will ever compete in was wondrous. Our team has accomplished so much.”

ACTIVITIES AND FUN

WALK THE LINE

A cop is doing standard patrol when he notices a car swerving all over the road. He quickly turns on his siren and pulls the guy over. “Alright,” says the cop, when the man gets out of the car. “Walk in a straight line.” “I’d be happy to,” says the drunk “just stop moving the stupid line.”

The business I work for had a dinner together with all family members. Before the first speech, the emcee gave the following announcement, “We kindly ask if you can please put all cell phones and children on silenced”.

VEGETARIAN SOCIETY

NEW DRUM SET

It was Timmy’s 5th birthday and he was joyfully opening all the presents he received. He saved the biggest for last, so it took a while until he got to opening Grandma’s present. “Wow” Timmy exclaimed in delight, upon seeing the mini drum set that his Grandmother got for him. “Thanks Grandma this is just what I wanted.” It was after Timmy went to bed that Timmy’s mother approached her mother. “Ma, I’m surprised at you, don’t you remember how it used to drive you crazy when we used to play the drums in the house growing up?” Grandma smiled and then said “I remember, of course I remember.”

EYE DOCTOR

BUSINESS DINNER

I was very scared about going to the eye doctor to get a certain procedure done on my eyes. The doctor tried to put me at ease but to no avail. It was after he finished with my first eye that I nearly jumped out of the chair when he said “There there, only one eye left!”

The leader of the vegetarian society just couldn’t control himself anymore. He just needed to try some pork, just to see what it tasted like. So one summer day he told his members he was going on a vacation. He packed out of town, and headed to the nearest restaurant. After sitting down, he ordered a roasted pig, and impatiently waited for his delicacy. After just a few minutes, he heard someone call his name, and to his great surprise he saw one of his fellow members walking towards him. Just at that same moment, the waiter walked over, with a huge platter, holding a full roasted pig with an apple in it’s mouth. “Isn’t that something,” says the leader after only a moments pause, “all I do is order an apple, and look what it comes with!”
