In-Home Care Agencies: Choosing the Right One
panies can also be found by searching online. Putting in “Home Care” in the search field (along with North Idaho) will bring up virtually all of the agencies listed in the area and these can be checked against the list provided by AAA .
By: Bruce Weaver, MPA, PA-C President & CEO AAging Better In-Home Care
As people become frail with age or face debilitating diseases, it’s common for them to need some help around the home so that they can continue to get by living on their own. In the past, the only option many seniors or disabled individuals had was moving to a nursing home, something that can be extremely traumatic (and expensive) for people who have to uproot their entire lives. That’s why in-home care has become so popular today. It’s convenient, safe and typically far less expensive than a full-time nursing facility. And virtually everyone wants the comfort of staying in their own home as they age. Because it’s becoming such a popular option today, it’s important to determine which agency may be best for you or your loved one. Begin the search by talking with the local Area Agency on Aging (AAA). AAA has offices in Coeur d’Alene and another in Sandpoint. Both can be reached at 1-800786-5536 and will provide you with a listing of the agencies serving North Idaho. Com-

August 6 - Chris Isaak with Lucas Nelson The Festival presents “Super Saturday” starring sensational vocalist and guitarist CHRIS ISAAK. Throughout his impressive recording career – from his stunning 1985 debut Silvertone to his latest stellar effort Mr. Lucky – Chris Isaak has tunefully and artfully explored the good, the bad and the ugly of love, as well as other matters of profound human interest.

generation, RICKIE LEE JONES, known by her fans as “Duchess of Coolsville.”
In-home care often involves services such as house cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, assistance with medications, assistance with bathing and getting dressed. Or in some cases, a disabled individual may need skilled nursing care provided by RNs or LPNs. It’s important to know the difference in what agencies are capable of because there’s no sense in paying for expensive nursing care if all you need is simple help with keeping the house clean or doing the laundry. Not all agencies have nurses on staff.

August 11 - Josh Ritter with Darren Smith The second week starts off with the Idaho native who is known for his distinctive Americana style and narrative lyrics. In 2006, Ritter was named as one of the “100 Greatest Living Son writers” by Paste Magazine and has become of the biggest word-of-mouth stars in Ireland. August 12 - Michael Franti & Spearhead August 12th marks the second “encore concert” of The Festival season as MICHAEL FRANTI & SPEARHEAD return to Sandpoint after their 2010 sold out performance! Michael Franti is a big man who has always dared to say big things through his joyous and passionate music during an impressive 20 year career. August 13 - Rodney Crowell with David Nail August 13 is SUPER COUNTRY SATURDAY starring one of Nashville’s most revered and prolific singer-songwriters, RODNEY CROWELL, and featuring up and coming country star DAVID NAIL. Rodney Crowell is an award winning singersongwriter with multiple hits over his more than thirty year career. August 14 - Rodney Crowell with David Nail The Festival season culminates with the GRAND FINALE CONCERT: “SPANISH SERENADE” featuring the SPOKANE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA and special guest classical guitarist MAK GRGIC.
In the end, choosing the right care for you or your loved ones is all about finding a responsive agency with a skilled office management team, one with the correct mix of services and the right caregivers for you or your loved ones’ particular needs. With the right match, you or your loved ones can experience the benefits of cost, comfort and safety that make in-home care such a valuable and important option today.

Sandpoint Junior Tackle Football Board
With 15 players, no equipment and no funding, Jack Knaggs and Mike Givens set out to start a junior tackle football league in Sandpoint that would serve as a fundamental feeder program for the High School. Entering its 5th season, the league is now flourishing and approaching 130 plus football participants. To date the football program has not turned away one player due to lack of funds for registration. There are fundraising efforts year round and soon local car washes that will help the leagues scholarship fund. All interested players are encouraged to register and or contact the league for assistance. Registration Deadline: July 31, 2011
