E D I TO R I A L

EDITORIAL It has been a couple of years since we issued the last English version of our company magazine LIKO-Stories. Our Czech version, “LIKO-Sáček” has been printed and sent to thousands of our customers, partners, and employees every month for the past 25 years. Still, we haven‘t found the time (or, should I say, the self-discipline) to do the same for our foreign supporters. We are determined to get better and change this. So, from now on, we plan to issue a quarterly edition of LIKO-Stories, featuring interesting projects and news from the lives of our people. Therefore, if you don’t receive another issue within the next three months, please hold us accountable and let us know! Nevertheless, a lot has happened in the last couple of years, and we can‘t wait to share it with you. Our team has been diligently working to fulfil the vision we set out some time ago. Just like with LIKO-Stories, sometimes it is tough to break free from the daily routine of dealing with urgent tasks and focus on what’s essential in the long term. These strategic goals are usually not as pressing as everything else, and nothing pushes us to work on them until it is too late. It is, hence, up to us to push ourselves and create our own sense of urgency. To some extent, we have been successful in doing this. Our international subsidiaries have been steadily growing; besides the oldest ones in Slovakia and Hungary, our Indian business has been expanding, and this year, we are celebrating five years of LIKO-S partitions and acoustic solutions that are “designed in Europe, made in India.” We have also founded a new subsidiary in neighbouring Austria for which we have big plans. I am extremely proud of our colleagues from our international branches as they always have it more challenging to grow the business than those of us working in the headquarters. Especially over the last few years, they have had to work very independently because of the pandemic. I trust that in the coming period, we will be able to give them more robust support so they can flourish even more.

4

Our R&D has also been striving to fulfil our mission to become innovative leaders in our industry. We believe that small everyday innovations, even though not as visible, are the most important for our company and customers. However, it is rewarding to be able to introduce a bright new pioneering product such as our smart modular meeting room Oasis®. It is truly the pinnacle of what LIKO-S systems combined can create, when working seamlessly together with sophisticated software. It was also the first time we developed a product with external architects and a design-first approach. Our efforts were consequently rewarded by the international expert jury of the Red Dot Design Award, and we are now more confident in developing even more products with this approach. As we aim to “create better buildings for people and nature,” the Living Buildings program has become an integral part of our long-term strategy. We are inventing a new market, and it takes a lot of perseverance to educate the public about the necessity of these green solutions. However, over the last few years, the construction industry has begun to change, and green solutions are not only part of architects´ visualization of future buildings but also the number of realizations constantly growing. Since this business is about combining architecture with living plants, our knowledge, developed over the past decade in various seasons and climates, is irreplaceable. We look forward to utilizing our experience to benefit foreign customers and buildings very soon! Overall, I believe that the last couple of difficult years have made us stronger – both personally as well as in terms of our processes. We now have a solid foundation upon which we can further expand. However, we are, of course, never perfect and crave to learn from our mistakes. Therefore, if you would have any recommendations for us, please let me know directly. My contact details are on our website, and I am always available. Thank you for supporting us on our journey!

INDIA

Soundararajan Dinesh Country Manager LIKO-S India

DESIGNED IN EUROPE, MADE IN INDIA. As we celebrate the fifth anniversary of LIKO-S‘s Indian branch, we‘re thrilled that you‘ve been a part of this journey right from the beginning. Can you share your reflections on the past five years? It‘s been the fastest five years of my life. Reaching the five-year mark in an organization doesn‘t necessarily change anything, but it‘s a significant milestone to be proud of. Starting from scratch and accumulating years of experience is something that even most bachelor‘s degrees can‘t replace. LIKO-S, a.s. has continually set high standards for its employees, which never ceases to amaze. Working with an organization like LIKO-S, where most of your colleagues have over 15 years of experience in the same company, is akin to having access to a vast library of knowledge all at once. We have many successes behind us and a lot of work ahead of us. Five years is just the beginning. Can you highlight any of the recent realized projects to demonstrate this development? 8

We supplied our interior partitions to a large co-working center in Chennai, for example. The project was unique in that the profiles featured rose gold anodizing, adding a touch of luxury to the entire interior. This is evidence that clients don‘t need to be afraid of colors; after all, here at Liko-s, we now offer special scratch-proof anodizing finishes with unique colors. The Indian market is vast and highly competitive. How does LIKO-S distinguish itself from others? We can offer European quality with local production in India. Unlike our competitors, we provide some of the shortest delivery times in the market. Currently, we can manufacture and install partitions within 3-4 weeks, which is often half the delivery time of our competitors. It‘s important to mention that at LIKO-S, we prefabricate door frames and doors, ensuring a swift and high-quality on-site assembly. This sets us apart from the competition. In addition to speed, quality and readiness are paramount to us, always taking precedence.

We succeed in being faster than our competitors...

We are consistent in mantaining our market position...

HUNGARY

Veréb Mária Executive Director LIKO-S Hungary

OUR PROJECTS ARE INVOLVED WITH GLOBAL BRANDS. How do you see LIKO-S‘s current position in the Hungarian market? Over 23 years of operating in the Hungarian market, we have established ourselves among the absolute top players and consistently maintained this position. This is one of the reasons why we are constantly involved in interior projects for prestigious global brands. For example, we recently supplied interior systems for BMW‘s manufacturing facilities and the Headquarters of LIDL. What enables you to maintain a competitive advantage? We are one of the few companies in Hungary within our sector that can handle production and installation seamlessly. Our innovations follow architecture trends such as integrated Smart office solutions. We know that not only the quality of production is the key. Each project has our focus, and we support all project

stages – from design to implementation. When communicating with designers and investors, we always strive to propose the best possible solutions for all parties involved. Instead of pushing for the highest price, we focus on suggesting financially advantageous alternatives. You‘ve been a part of LIKO-S‘s Hungarian branch from its opening in 2001, and you‘ve completed hundreds of successful projects. How have customer requirements for interior systems changed over time? In the past, we mainly provided the classic frame based partition Omega. Currently, customers are focused on having clean designs, going for bigger sizes, and using neutral colours. Most of our projects nowadays go with the frameless solutions Micra I and Micra II. Can you highlight any recent project which you are proud of? Most architects prefer to use black or dark grey profiles everywhere, which, in my view, is unfortunate. Therefore, I love to mention the National Stadium in Budapest, where we successfully used brighter colours, such as blue and yellow doors, making the space more lively. I love using colours in interiors, as they can make the space more appealing and create a positive atmosphere, which is important in a workplace. 11

AUSTRIA

Martina Konecká Country Manager LIKO-S Austria

AUSTRIAN ATTITUDE TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY. The LIKO-S branch in Austria has only been operating since 2022. What is your current goal? Yes, the Austrian branch is still relatively new. Our short-term goal is to find a suitable place to showcase our products and set up administrative facilities. Next year, we plan to hire more employees, including a project manager and a technical specialist. In the long-term, we aim to establish a strong position as specialists in flexible interior solutions, similar to LIKO-S in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Is the Austrian market different compared to the markets where LIKO-S has been successfully operating for a longer time? Austria is interesting because of its strategic location between Western and Eastern Europe. This appeals to foreign investors, and Austria has a very positive attitude towards green technologies, sustainability, and active environmental protection. It‘s one of the first EU 12

countries to have standards for indoor green walls and building greening. They add at least 40,000 square meters of green facades each year. So, in this regard, Austria is ahead of the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Besides green systems, what other products are in the highest demand in Austria? Our expansion into the Austrian market is based on supplying glass, mobile, and multimedia partitions for offices, including acoustic solutions. A key premium product for Austria is our modular meeting room, LIKO-S OASIS®. Clients are often also interested in digital blinds. This is also my favourite technology, which, in my opinion, deserves much more attention. Anyone who sees with their own eyes that glass can be easily dimmed with a single click is thrilled. It‘s a very effective feature.

SLOVAKIA

Renata Regecová Executive Director LIKO-S Slovakia

WHAT LIES BEHIND LONG-TERM SUCCESS IN SLOVAKIA? The Slovak LIKO-S branch will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year. Can you evaluate business in the last period? The Slovak LIKO-S branch currently has eight internal employees and three full-time installation teams. Over the last five years, we have made significant progress in our internal processes and operations. Thanks to this, we have increased our turnover and are doing better each year. In Slovakia, we are seen as market leaders in interior systems. Despite our long history, we are still actively working to strengthen our position, for instance, by reaching out to new generations of architects and designers and informing the public.

revitalizing Slovenská spořitelna branches, and our interior partitions adorn the offices of world-famous brands. We define our market position as the ability to supply and install interior systems for the most significant and innovative projects. Is Slovakia unique compared to the Czech Republic, Austria, or Hungary? The local economy here is heavily industrial, with many manufacturing companies to whom we supply our InLIKO® in-hall unit systems for their facilities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we experienced a temporary decrease in demand as companies hesitated to invest due to the uncertain environment. The economy is recovering, and manufacturing companies are showing renewed interest in improving their working environments. Slovakia continues to lead in terms of the demand for our in-hall unit systems, even more so than in the Czech Republic.

Market leader: what does it mean for LIKO-S?

In your opinion, what is one of the most remarkable projects we have completed recently?

Being a market leader opens doors for us to significant projects and important partnerships, not only in Bratislava, which has seen substantial growth in new construction projects in recent years. We are regularly approached for prestigious projects, recently for notable high-rise buildings like Panorama City and Eurovea. We are also actively involved in

One of the most significant recent projects would be our collaboration on the Bory Hospital, where we supplied interior partitions, doors, and other products. It was a rather specific project requiring compliance with various hygiene regulations. It was a challenge for us, but at the same time, a great honour to work on one of the most modern hospitals in Slovakia. 15

Jakub Heidler Architect Reaktor Studio

How did the entire collaboration between you and LIKO-S start? What was your brief for creating OASIS®, and what was your inspiration? We have been collaborating with LIKO-S on office projects for several years, regularly approaching them with architectural challenges to create perfect details, bold dimensions, and unexplored paths in glass partition design. However, at one point, the tables turned, and LIKO-S approached our studio to collaborate on designing a new innovative and unique meeting „pod.“ The brief was, in short: Let‘s create a modern glass „cube“ filled with technology. Our inspiration was the idea of a magical bubble, a transparent aura that enhances your presentation, negotiation, and concentration abilities. Studio Reaktor approaches its projects in a very unique way. Paraphrases, synergies, emotions, technologies... What was your initial thought about how OASIS® would look?

18

In the early stages, our sketches led us to nonrectangular shapes; we wanted to break away from orthogonality and come up with something „out of the box.“ We aimed to simulate the design of futuristic phones, cars, or spacecraft. The original names revolved around phrases like Magic box, Pandora‘s bubble, or Technology bulb. How much did the final OASIS® differ from this initial idea? In the end, OASIS® didn‘t differ much from the initial sketches; everything was accepted on the first try. We focused mainly on details and sought ways to achieve perfect purity in all connections and spatial perceptions. The biggest question was whether to present the exhibit in mysterious deep fortuneteller black or gently misted visionary white. How challenging was it to align your design vision with the technical requirements and possibilities? Thinking through the ceiling structure, which had to meet the demands of acoustic attenuation, lighting, ventilation, cooling, weight, self-supporting capabilities, aesthetics, and architectural subtlety, was quite a puzzle. However, thanks to the architectural and manufacturing synergy between the two entities, everything went smoothly. What feeling or experience should OASIS® evoke in its users? What is the ideal scenario? Ideally, we would like people to eventually stop noticing OASIS®, to accept it as a standard, a common part of their working environment. It should be like a technological bubble blending with the surroundings, a virtual colleague you don‘t see but has answers to all your questions, and intuitively understands your thoughts.

We believe that OASIS® can help you in being more efficient... 19

Can you describe the emotional significance of winning the Red Dot Award for this product? Winning such a prestigious award is a tremendous source of validation and recognition for one‘s work. It also opens doors to new opportunities for our company, such as partnerships or participation in prestigious projects. It is a strong differentiating factor that sets winners apart and attracts further opportunities for growth and success. However, it‘s important to realize that while winning this award can be a great experience, the drive for enthusiasm and creativity is not solely fueled by external validation. Internal motivation, personal growth, and the impact of one‘s own work remain the most significant aspects of the creative process.

Orraine Williams Head of Export & R&D LIKO-S

HOW DID IT ALL BEGIN?

What emotions do you hope this product evokes in its users?

How did you feel when you first saw the finished product, knowing that it was a result of such hard work and dedication? Can you share that moment with us? The focus was so intense that there was no time to look at the product any other way than analytically. It was only after some time had passed that I could truly appreciate it. But when we completed the construction for the world premiere at the ORGATEC trade fair in Germany, and the „stage“ was set, I vividly remember feeling a sense of pride. That moment was the culmination of long days and nights filled with obstacles and challenges, right up until a few hours before the official unveiling. At that moment, there was no turning back, but I knew we had created something unique. What was the biggest challenge encountered during development?

you

I remember the moment when we decided to use smart glass doors for OASIS®. It was a product that had seen only a few unsuccessful attempts at creation before. It was a radical decision, but we went for it. Two days before shipping to Germany, a serious electronics malfunction occurred. In such a situation, one might expect despair, but the team didn‘t see it as a defeat. Instead, there was an aggressive „turnaround“ and a rapid change of pace and plans. Thanks to the determination and dedication of everyone on the team, an alternative solution was secured the following day.

20

Our goal was to create a space full of practical utility that simplifies and enhances the experience of organizing or participating in a meeting. To engage participants from the moment the room is reserved until the end of the meeting. Users should feel comfortable in a spacious, well-ventilated environment with high acoustic insulation. Thanks to integrated technologies, users have the opportunity to fully control and utilize all functions.

Our focus on detail is more than just a philosophy catchphrase. Let us introduce some of these specific details...

26

Perforated metal cladding The glass partitions stand out in their design thanks to the use of perforated cladding. We needed a special way to attach it to prevent any bumps and ensure all the connections were perfect. Curved glass partitions are now standard for us,but incorporating them with the inset sheets presented a real challenge, which we successfully managed.

27

No limits The structural solution for the office glass partitions represents an efficient and aesthetically pleasing approach. Room dividers remain unbroken, creating an elegant appearance from the side.

28

Build-in profiles To ensure everything stays glass-edged, we seamlessly recessed the frameless MICRA II partition profiles into the wall and floor. Notice the detail in which we adapted the internal profile of the partition to match the wall covering. The floor profile is also recessed to the floor finishing.

29

Because god is in the details...

30

Impeccable finishing concealed structural elements, and material uniformity render this office interior a glimpse into the future. This solution ensures excellent sound insulation and a maximum sense of tranquillity in individual spaces.

Antonín Řičánek Project Manager LIKO-S Czech Republic

34

Antonin, do you remember your initial reaction when you first saw the Organica project? Of course, I was thrilled (laughter). In the beginning, I thought we could never put this together. Organica was a huge challenge, but in the end, we managed to handle something like this easily, and my initial concerns were unnecessary. I also perceived the significance of the entire construction. Organica (Czech Republic) sets a new standard for administrative buildings, and there‘s nothing like it. Can you describe what you, as a project manager, are responsible for on this project? I have overall responsibility for project management. My task is to ensure the smooth progress of the project from start to finish, in other words, to transform the project from paper into reality. One crucial part of my work is, for instance, creating a schedule and subsequently monitoring its adherence. I coordinate material deliveries and construction work to ensure everything goes according to plan.

Project Organica sets a new standard of commercial buildings...

Apart from the project‘s size, were there any specific challenges in implementing partitions in the Organica building for LIKO-S? Indeed, the quantity of curved partitions is very demanding to install. Even measuring such partitions is not straightforward, and we need a surveyor‘s services. The measurement results are often complex to check, so I must rely on them 100% and hope the ordered glass will fit perfectly. Additionally, if a wall combines segmental and curved partitions, it is assembled in several phases. We measure the set segments and curves, and then we have to measure the dividing piece perfectly and order it again. Did you encounter any problems that caught you off guard and complicated the work? No significant problems arose, but that doesn‘t mean everything went without complications. It‘s a classic construction project, and some minor or major issues always challenge us, and we have to solve them. I‘m used to it now, so nothing surprises me anymore. Nonetheless, Organica has imparted valuable lessons, benefiting not only me but also our assemblers. As previously discussed, handling curved and segmental partitions demands heightened attention to detail, precise measurements, and cutting accuracy. When you perform these tasks repeatedly, they evolve into a routine, leading to a smoother workflow.

35

Challenges and complications are inevitable; our mission is to solve them. Jaroslav, what was your role in the project of partition installation in the Organica building? Iorganizetheworkofinstallersandexternalconstruction companies that help us with the completion of the entire project or contribute to the construction in some way. One thing must follow another and complement each other. It doesn‘t work like this: we arrive, install the partitions, and hand them over. We need to coordinate with other trades. For example, electricians come before us, but often, the cables aren‘t finally connected, so they come after us. Similarly, after some professions, we return and „fix things,“ meaning we need to finish, adjust, etc. I ensure that everything goes smoothly, and if a problem arises, it‘s my job to solve it. What does a typical day on the construction site look like for you? We start with a coordination meeting attended by other trade leaders every morning. Each of us 36

discusses what will be done that day and what is needed to coordinate with each other. We agree with the assemblers on what they will work on that day. Everyone must have a precisely defined task. It may seem minor, but many people must realize that smooth progress is not a given, and we must constantly adapt to the situation. What was the most significant challenge you encountered on the Ostrava construction site? The most serious problem came right at the beginning when we started working on the project. The guys were already excited to start the assembly. During one of the glass deliveries, we discovered that the supplier had produced them in the wrong size. Some panels were 7 mm shorter. It may seem like a negligible mistake, but everything must fit perfectly with curved partitions, or we can‘t put it together. Fortunately, we partially resolved it by rearranging segments, allowing us to use a few pieces.

Today, customers prefer businesses with modern and attractive surroundings. Ver tical gardens have a unique appeal that make people want to return to your place.

When customers choose where to shop or spend their free time, it‘s about more than just what‘s for sale. It‘s about the overall experience they get. The atmosphere and the environment a business offers are essential to customers. Unsurprisingly, brands expressing their values and caring about the environment build strong connections with customers. The best way to show thesevaluesistobringnatureindoorswithlivingwalls. These walls show that a brand cares about people and nature. Vertical gardens do more than enhance aesthetics; they also bridge indoor spaces with nature. They diminish noise, creating a tranquil and comfortable environment while eliminating unpleasant odours. Additionally, they contribute to cleaner air by filtering out harmful particles. Living walls like PlantBox® create a cosy atmosphere, making the place more comfortable and improving the quality of the experience. Green walls are a versatile addition to any business. They effectively conceal unattractive areas of a place or separate different areas. A living wall makes your brand more recognizable and improves the overall atmosphere. The presence of plants leads customers to perceive your products as high-quality, fresh, and vibrant. Moreover, the living wall becomes a soughtafter photo spot, drawing in more customers to your establishment.

The Czech Best Managed Companies award ceremony was the culmination of the Family Business Week Summit on Friday, where representatives of LIKO-S management accepted the award. „We have won the Best Managed Company award twice before. Last year we decided not to apply because we were going through a challenging period of restructuring. The fact that we have this year won the award for the third is a great success, which we appreciate very much. It is a great satisfaction for us after everything we have achieved in the last year. We have completed a holding structure that will help ensure the resilience of the company and its handover to the next generation. We have built a strong management team and fundamentally upgraded our internal processes and systems so that we are now among the world leaders in the way we manage contracts and the business. We see these steps as an important foundation for our further international development,“ our CEO Jan Musil said about the award.

The global Best Managed Companies program was launched in the Czech Republic a few years ago and since its inception, our company has been a regular winner. „Companies that successfully pass the Czech Best Managed Companies program demonstrate the quality of management at the level of the best. Long-term goals, market position, a well thoughtout product strategy, an adaptive corporate culture, openness to innovation and change in general, attracting and nurturing talent...“, described the focus of the program‘s leader Miroslav Svoboda. Again this year, the winners were selected by an independent expert jury based on the evaluation of 4 key pillars (see below).
