ABOUT ME
Hello, my name is Lila Nguyen and I am a Master of Architecture student at Laurentian University. My passion for architecture started at a young age, as my family lived in various neighbourhoods in the Greater Toronto Area. Through this, I was able to experience many housing typologies. I have four years worth of professional experience working in an architectural setting. My goal is to use my education, professional and personal experience to obtaining an internship in the field of architecture. I am a hardworking and detail-oriented individual. I have an interest in residential design and urban planning.

VERT-UP
Mass-Timber Student Housing Sudbury, Ontario
Vert-Up focused on reclaiming land in an urban environment, where nature is a vertically built destination. Transformed an empty parking lot into a student/ entrepreneur housing and merged the public spaces vertically throughout the building. The urban spaces continued from the ground up which helped with the lack of green spaces downtown Sudbury. As the added greenery vertically to connect the master greening plan together.

ART GALLERY OF SUDBURY Art Gallery Design Concept Sudbury, Ontario
Designed an art gallery to allow a visual connection towards the park and took advantage of natural lighting throughout the building by its form. Reclaimed an empty parking lot into the new art gallery of Sudbury which included permanent, temporary and experimental art collection. Some of the rooms included an art studio, art library and a ground floor cafe. The form of the building takes into account Sudbury’s new master re-greening plan.

LIVING PIERS Timber in the City
New York, New York
Our proposal introduced innovative timber building to the Queens waterfront whilst honouring its post-industrial past. Historically wooden piers were the integral structures that connected these industrial lands with the East River, and thus the world. The eight stories of residential units are composed of a modular, prefabricated CLT system which aligns the super-column system below. Each unit is angled towards the river and features a large, covered balcony as well as a semi-private porch along the interior hallway. These spaces foster social interaction while introducing biophilic elements into the design. These rectangular forms are clad in terra cotta, and thus are reminiscent of the bricks which were once shipped from this very site.

M.A.D
Parking Day Installation Sudbury, Ontario
The built identity of Sudbury has slowly been lost over the last century through the destruction of historic buildings in favour of additional parking and commercial venues. With the present discussion of demolishing the super stack, an icon to the city of Sudbury, this installation, Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) emphasized this change in Sudbury’s urban and natural identity. Through rotatable wood blocks, we have depicted before and after comparison pictures around Sudbury, along with a negative of our beloved stack. We have also posed questions to the audience like “What now?”, “What about the stack?”, and “What is Sudbury?” to get people thinking about the current state of Sudbury and its future.
