EDITORIALS Born from the dynamics of Lille 2004 European Capital of Culture, the association lille3000 has been committed, since its creation more than 10 years ago, to implement an ambitious, demanding and internationally renowned artistic and cultural project, while taking care to involve all the cultural and associative actors of the European Metropolitan Area of Lille and the Hauts-de-France Region, the inhabitants, in its many events, associations, etc. A program accessible to the greatest number of people, especially the youngest. As AndrĂŠ Malraux said: "Children are the key to the treasure". When a child discovers the works of a contemporary art exhibition with his class and convinces his family to rediscover them with him on weekends, the bet is won, the "Come back with your parents" operation is successful. A great step towards learning art has been taken, a desire to know has been born. Artistic proposals must thus be able to address more broadly the populations that can stay away from the usual places of culture. This constant concern for lille3000 has developed both in a work aimed at setting up tools and protocols capable of reaching all audiences (awarenessraising and outreach work with schools, associations, businesses, social centres, neighbourhood town halls, integration centres, etc.), but also with the opening of new cultural places to live, welcoming, easy to access, multifunctional and likely to counter social intimidation, still too often felt by a part of the population in cultural places. The challenge of culture for all is the challenge of democracy. And it is also a continuous journey. Through the various thematic editions presented since 2006, lille3000 offers the public the opportunity to discover other horizons: India, Europe XXL, cities in full renaissance such as Rio, Phnom Penh, Detroit, Eindhoven and Seoul, or the young creation of Singapore. So many gateways to the future and to a better world - like an Eldorado -, like multiple hubs on a treasure map: urban metamorphoses, exhibitions, live shows, art of living.... Since Lille, European Capital of Culture, in 2004, the major editions of lille3000 are still events of exceptional artistic and cultural intensity, which are transforming our city in a lasting way. Events that also give us the opportunity to question our common future. We need to dream. And, more importantly, we need to dream together. The theme of this 2019 edition invites us to do so: Eldorado - this fabulous country, full of gold, that the Spanish Conquistadors dreamed of. In a world that is in doubt, Eldorado invites us to look to the future: What are our contemporary "Eldorado"? Which of them are virtuous? To which world do we want to go? Art, because it makes us look at the world differently, can provide answers to these questions. The programme of this edition, in the first place of which the major exhibitions of contemporary art will thus address some of the decisive issues of our time: climate change, which invites us to rethink our lifestyles and operations, both collective and individual, to really engage in the ecological transition; the limits of our model of development, increasingly violent, where everyone competes with their neighbour, who suggest inventing new ways of living together, further promoting individual and collective well-being; the ever-increasing number of migrations, which raise the question of the inequalities of our world and, of course, of the reception of refugees in the short term. We have chosen to focus on Mexico, which is experiencing all these issues, and whose immense cultural richness and artistic vitality we will discover through numerous proposals. This is a great opportunity to strengthen friendship between our two nations at a time when relations between the United States and South American countries are weakening, and when they are looking to Europe. You can also discover, throughout the city, the many metamorphoses and take part in the many events organized in the neighbourhoods. Resolutely multidisciplinary, exploring all artistic forms, from the visual arts to the performing arts, literature and gastronomy, the programme also promises many discoveries. More than ever, culture is at the heart of our project. And I am delighted by the enthusiasm generated by this new edition of lille3000 among the many actors in Lille, its metropolitan area and its region who are taking part. It is a magni that collective energy of which we have the secret, which gives these events the momentum that makes them so successful. And I see here one of the most beautiful Eldorados we have ever achieved. Eldorado will also be a great celebration as we like them, which will take place throughout the territory, from the opening parade on April 27 in Lille, until the end of the year. A year that promises to be very colourful. Martine Aubry, Mayor of Lille

INTRODUCTION ELDORADO

ELDORADO 5ÈME ÉDITION THÉMATIQUE DE lille3000 EXPOSITIONS, MÉTAMORPHOSES, FÊTES, ÉVÉNEMENTS... 27 AVRIL > 01 DÉCEMBRE 2019 LILLE, MÉTROPOLE EUROPÉENNE DE LILLE & RÉGION HAUTS-DE-FRANCE Featuring an opening parade, urban metamorphoses, major exhibitions at the Tripostal, the Gare Saint Sauveur and many partner cultural venues throughout Lille Eurodistrict and the Hauts-De-France region, shows, gardens, design, debates and new events. For this edition, lille3000 has opted for a Spring/Summer programme making use of outdoor spaces and giving visitors the opportunity to explore the region during the sunny season. In addition to exhibitions and shows, Eldorado, will continue to explore new worlds and will extend significantly throughout all of metropolitan Lille and into the Region. Eldorado seeks to be a movement that highlights the qualities upon which the wealth of our region is built: its inhabitants and their ability to invent new models for living together better, its companies, who are innovating to create a new economy, and the close network of ties between artists, researchers and citizens. Eldorado acts an ongoing project to encourage individual and collective initiatives and share them, a place to experiment with living spaces and human contact. Eldorado, a quest for an ideal within everyone’s reach.

In the Lille Eurodistrict The municipalities of the Lille Eurodistrict are opening up to Eldorado, a collective project like a treasure map that invites residents and visitors to discover the wealth of their region. As in previous editions, lille3000 associates municipalities, local associations, schools, inhabitants, cultural venues and libraries with the project. Eldorado will offer a programme of festive, friendly, participatory events for a broad public: celebrations, carnivals, balls, dances, shows, exhibitions, design, cinema, literature, debates, Mexican parades, and unique garden events. To date, 88 municipalities (out of 90) are participating in Eldorado. In the Hauts-de-France Region For Eldorado, lille3000 is broadening its field of vision to the Hauts-de-France region by inviting remarkable initiatives such as the Art and Gardens festival to Lille and its metropolitan area. Eldorado is also associating major museums and contemporary art Centres such as Louvre-Lens, the Frac Grand Large and its Gigantisme festival. After its tour in the metropolitan area, Mumo Eldorado, whose programme has been designed in partnership with the Frac Hauts-de-France (Grand Large and Picardy sites), will be making stops throughout the region. Finally, the wonderful movement initiated around the Eldorado scores (composed by three artists from the Hauts-de-France) with the Conservatories, Music Schools, concert bands and brass bands (70 to date) will give rise to many Eldorado and Mexican concerts all through the period.

THE MYTH OF ELDORADO History abounds in examples of peoples pinning their dreams to places beyond the horizon. However, none of these places has ever had the expressive strength of Eldorado. This Spanish name stirs up images of the European “Age of Discovery”, the glory of a nascent sixteenth century that saw Hernán Cortés and Francisco Pizarro succeed Christopher Columbus, and quest turn into conquest. It was a time when people believed in cities of gold, which two centuries earlier Marco Polo had situated in China. The Conquistadors sought these cities in Colombia, Peru, Mexico or the basin of the immense Amazon River. They found enough gold in Peru to fuel world trade for several decades. But they didn’t find Eldorado. Myths vanish as soon as you touch them, only to be reborn a little further away, at the fringes of the imagination. Eldorado is made of such myth. Its name may be Spanish and its location South American, but it has come to mean something other than this historical contingency: a vague and yet intense aspiration, where the desire for selffulfilment combines with greed, where curiosity for other civilisations can go hand in hand with their programmed destruction. Eldorado is such an attractive elsewhere that those who seek it are willing to risk other people’s lives as much as their own in order to reach it. In other words, there is a touch of treasure island about Eldorado, which we imagine as a place where heroic achievement must triumph over obstacles – our own passions first and foremost. Stevenson understood this perfectly: young Jim Hawkins’ ardent quest wouldn’t make sense if not for his encounter with the ambiguous Long John Silver, a murderer with one eye on his own

redemption. The maps that materialise all these things – the desire for cities paved with gold, mysterious lands, buried treasures – function as the expression of these existential choices. They may act as the pretext for a game, but it is a game in which our lives are at stake and Fortune, in the old sense of the word, holds these lives in the palm of her hand. Behind Eldorado, there is that same lightness contained in every game, but also all the intensity of our desires So let us follow the dotted lines on the maps and decipher the rules of this game in which we are all players. Eldorado may have been born in the sixteenth-century Spanish imagination, but from Jason’s quest to find the Golden Fleece to the dreams of our time, it reflects many desires, taking on varied and splendid forms in History. ELDORADO OR THE MEXICAN IMAGINATION IN LILLE IN 2019 From 27 April to 01 December 2019, the theme of Eldorado will be honoured, with Mexico as the main protagonist. From 27 April, visitors are invited to discover the power of the Mexican imagination and the influence it has always exerted, not only on local society, but also on all the artists, writers and researchers who chose to settle for various lengths of time in a country whose history has largely shaped the Mexican dream as described by the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature JMG Le ClÊzio. Eldorado aims to highlight the wealth of Mexico’s territories and cultures: throughout this thematic season dedicated to this country, in a programme combing heritage elements, popular art and contemporary art, a number of events will illustrate the vitality of Mexican culture and the utopian quest that it continues to embody. Thanks to a happy coincidence in the calendar, Mexico City and Lille have also been designated as World Capitals of Design, respectively in 2018 for the former and in 2020 for the latter, an opportunity for each city to demonstrate its talent in a discipline that in its way conceptualises and gives form to ideal shapes. Finally, in addition to the events to be held in Lille and its region, Eldorado will encourage partnerships with Mexico and raise awareness among companies, universities and art centres in northern France concerning the wide range of opportunities for investment or cooperation this country represents. OPENING PARADE

SATURDAY 27 APRIL 2019 LILLE

As for each of its editions, lille3000 is launching the Eldorado festivities with an opening parade. On 27 April 2019, the programme will feature: a Mexican voyage in dance and music, with floats and costumes, taking us through Mexico City, Oaxaca and Puebla, cities that symbolise this multifaceted country, where the fusion between ancestral and post-colonial indigenous cultures is omnipresent. A parade inspired by the country’s great festivals, processions and customs (“El Dia de los muertos” or the Puebla parade – its artists and icons – Frida Kahlo or Diego Rivera, La Catrina or the Alebrijes – or its popular traditions – mariachis, bandas, masks and carnival costumes!). Art Point M is orchestrating this eclectic and exceptional celebration, alongside Sylvain Groud, artistic director of the Ballet du Nord – CCN Roubaix, Hervé Brisse, music coordinator, Arnaud Van Lancker and the cie of the Tire-Laine and with the participation of Romain Greco from Mexico City. It will bring together the music schools, concert bands and conservatories of Lille, Lille Métropole and the Hauts-de-France Region as well as the participants of several major casting calls organised from November 2018.

A CELEBRATION IN 3 STEPS 3PM > 6PM : THE PARTY BEGINS !

Come and prepare for the parade with make-up workshops, costumes, masks, flower wreaths, all in music with harmonies, Mariachis, a flashmob Eldorado or the Tale Machu Picchu...

7.30PM : BEGINNING OF THE PARADE

With its 800 meters long, the Eldorado parade, whose aesthetics has been entrusted to Art Point M, is composed of 5 tanks (Dia de los Muertos, Frida Khalo, Alebrijes, Lucha Libre and Dansez !) Coming directly from Mexico City, many elements of the 2018 Feast of the Dead will also march alongside the harmonies, the Banda de Oaxaca, amateur participants and dancers and professional companies.

10PM> 01AM : THE EVENING GOES ON...

After the parade, the fireworks display orchestrated by Group F is fired and opens the rest of the festivities with multiple concerts, balls and DJ sets all over the city: with Kumbia Boruka, Ukuleleboys, Ceslo Pina, Tire Laine, DJ Buddha, DJ El Frances, DJ Originale Batichica...

ELDORAMA

27 APRIL > 01 SEPTEMBRE 2019 TRIPOSTAL, LILLE The flagship of lille3000, Admiral, the Tripostal unfolds the great story of Eldorado through a myriad of contemporary works of art borrowed from all over the world. In three chapters, corresponding to the three floors of the building: 1. Dream Worlds, 2. The Rush, 3. New Eldorados, the exhibition presents the universal adventure of all the Eldorados who move and move individuals and peoples. Punctuated by works that launch the movement, while others offer themselves as ideal stations before moving on to other horizons, the journey unfolds a dynamic epic story, but also wild and violent, animated by the artists’ fascinated or critical look at the new eldorados that our contemporary world promises us. Hope for a better life, desire for richness and fullness: Eldorado is an active reverie, which makes entire peoples migrate and move as isolated individuals. First, in antiquity, there were the ancient myths of the lost cities, the Atlantians swallowed up with all their riches. Then, in the 16th century, it was the conquest of the Eldorados of Mexico and Peru, the wild plundering of Aztec or Incan treasures. Then Eldorado is a constantly renewed myth, which takes us to the countries of yellow gold, but also black gold (oil), green gold (ecology), and even artificial or tax havens. Eldorado begins there: with the attraction of dreamed, invented worlds, of blessed utopias built by desire.

Then comes the time to leave. Exile, exodus, rush. Entire populations are setting out in search of a fantasized Eldorado. All vehicles are good. We go by sea, by road and today by air and into space, this Eldorado of the future. There were gold rushes in the 19th century to the American West, but also in Australia, South Africa around Johannesburg, or in the far north of Alaska. It is a violent, brutal story, made up of conquests, massacres and disappointments. Many will go and search the belly of the Earth. But not everyone will find the treasure they have been hoping for and will come back haggard and emptyhanded. To better go back to new Eldorados. The Eldorado is always somewhere else. And in fact his great story also goes through the test of disillusionment: by passing from a dream country to real lands, the adventurer settles into a new life made of habits, routine, and soon boredom. He begins to dream, once again, of another Eldorado. Our contemporary world is full of it, and constantly stirs up before our eyes the mirages of new paradises, often contradictory: distant islands or inner Zen, fiscal exile or ecological decline... In this last chapter, we will thus move between works that are sometimes critical, sometimes dreamy, between disappointment and new hope. Curators: Jérôme Sans, Jean-Max Colard With Isabelle Bernini With the support of the Caisse d’Epargne Hauts-de-France and Euralille.

INTENSO/MEXICANO

27 APRIL > 30 AUUST 2019 MUSÉE DE L’HOSPICE COMTESSE, LILLE Intenso/Mexicano brings together 48 paintings, engravings and photographs from the permanent collection of the Museo de Arte Moderno de Mexico, in order to evoke certain recurring cultural traits in the production of Mexican (or foreign) artists who lived in Mexico, in the aftermath of the 1910 Revolution and until the turn of the 20th century: from Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco and Francisco Toledo, to Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Graciela Iturbide, Germán Venegas and Daniel Lezama. This phenomenon, both nostalgic and jubilant, is manifested in an imaginary repertoire shaped by the recovery of preHispanic myths and colonial crossbreeding; the parody of national emblems; the quest for a paradise lost in tropical nature; ambiguity (especially sexual) as an identity hypothesis; some popular cults related to Catholic liturgy and urban rituals; the tremendous libertarian momentum of the EZLN in Chiapas (Ejército Zapatista de Liberación

Nacional); and the ruins of neoliberalism embodied by the victims of poverty and migrants who cross the continent from south to north. The interplay of mirrors between the works conveys a sense of excess and irrationality in everyday life, through eclectic iconography and plastic forms that appeal as much to symbolism as to caricature and primitivism. They also reveal the exacerbated vitality of a culture in perpetual crisis, confronted with social inequalities and violence, but which attaches itself to ancestral traditions and ethnic diversity in order to recharge its batteries with contemporary sensitivity. TLACOLULOKOS - OAXACA À LOS ANGELES 27 APRIL > 30 AUGUST 2019 MUSÉE DE L’HOSPICE COMTESSE, LILLE

Descendants of the Zapotheques Indians, Dario Canul and Cosijosea Cernas, founders of the Tlacolulokos collective, offer an immersion in the street culture very present in Oaxaca. This Mexican city-state, the scene of a major popular uprising in 2006, bears the scars of this revolution, from which more than 300 social assemblies, urban and rural, were born in favour of indigenous organizations. The riots are now forgotten but the walls of Oaxaca still speak. Graffiti, stencils and frescoes are still very present and young artists' collectives are more active than ever. Their work deals with the expectations of the young artistic generation who have seen in the counter-cultural and anarchist movements an escape from the colonial and authoritarian structures of the political regime.

TLACOLULOKOS, VISUALIZING LANGUAGE: OAXACA IN LA

In this sense, the Tlacolulokos operate a constant selfcriticism of indigenous identity and tradition through street art actions, revealing a complex social fabric affected by drug trafficking, gangs, crime, migration and discrimination. The collective thus positions itself as a bastion of production and education defending, through their paintings, an innovative vision of the art of fresco and a revaluation of the indigenous culture that is too often forgotten.

GOLDEN ROOM

27 APRIL > 02 SEPTEMBRE 2019 PALAIS DES BEAUX-ARTS, LILLE Golden Room, Ali Baba's treasure room or cave: it is the mythical place of all gold seekers, of all Eldorados. A wonderful space, a treasure in which one finds oneself immersed, a sparkling heap, an anachronistic mixture of all eras, all civilizations, up to the most contemporary. On the occasion of the new cultural season of Lille3000 entitled Eldorado, the guest curators, Jean-Max Colard and Jérôme Sans, proposed to several artists to invest the "underground" galleries of the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille where the permanent collections of the museum, the Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance are housed and displayed. Like a treasure hunt without rules and order, the artists develop the possible chapters of a history as universal as it is tumultuous, in which their work echoes the works of the collections set with gold. A metaphor for a desire for power, the quest for the treasure here takes the form of a rite of passage, but also of a reversal of values. Gold, the ultimate representation of wealth and success, is a coveted and criticized material. Its glorious, sacred material is also the symbol of luxury, as the only absolute and stable value. Thus, ironically, Thomas Lélu's work proclaims In Gold we trust ("We believe in gold"), diverting into a capitalist slogan the national motto of the United States (In God we trust, "We believe in God") that appears on all American notes and coins. If Olga de Amaral's textile works diffuse the vibration of gold in space, sparkling under the light, they evoke preColumbian gold artifacts and the historical fantasy of Eldorado. While the works of: mentalKLINIK play precisely on our unanimous attraction for sparkling and seductive objects, in a work of encryption between the true and the false, the fake and the superficial, as if everything were a matter of falsification. Gold is definitely the privileged material of this long history of false pretenses. It is revisited by Laurent Grasso who, like an image historian, creates in his paintings a "false historical memory", juxtaposing pictorial references borrowed from various periods with climatic phenomena that border on fiction, even paranormal. Also disturbing our perception, the golden backgrounds of the religious icons in the collections give way to the golden colour of the survival blankets that cover the walls in Mircea Cantor's installation Heaven and Hell simutaneously.

Usually dressing the extreme poverty of a veil paradoxical by its color, this material suddenly brings back to the injustice of the reality of the contemporary world. Like a double agent, the golden color transforms hell into a dream and vice versa. Thus, if this gallery of wonders is played with a thousand golden reflections, it is also tinged with darkness. It is true that the conquest of the Eldorados is carried out through violence and the plundering of peoples and cultures, where the thirst for wealth also brings its share of the collapse of beliefs and ideologies, as addressed in Kendell Geers' abrasive works. What if this Golden Room is never more than a cave for thieves and looters? Under the gold leaves, this series of objects where real gold mixes with toc could well appear to us as an economic and cultural mirage, the space of illusion or vanity. Or as the already ruined remnant of many civilizations that have been lost in the quest for prosperity. Curators : Jean-Max Colard, Jérôme Sans Avec Isabelle Bernini

MATHIAS KISS : BESOIN D'AIR ?

27 APRIL 2019 > 06 JANUARY 2020 - PALAIS DES BEAUX-ARTS, LILLE At the crossroads of painting, sculpture and architecture, Mathias Kiss leads a reflection on the deconstruction of the classical heritage. His work has led to the erasure of barriers between art and crafts, in line with trends such as the Arts & Crafts movement or the Bauhaus school. The artist proposes an installation for the Palais des Beaux-Arts that evokes the sky and space. It opens the place to the outside and the light, thus calling for the dream of all possible. Rarely visible, these illuminated masterpieces show the importance of gold in their decoration and binding. The precious magni metal and the "stories" and their decoration. Gold enhances the miniatures, letters and borders of medieval manuscripts, especially those intended for liturgy and private devotion (books of hours, prayer books, psalters and breviaries). A selection of bindings from the Bibliothèque municipale de Lille is also presented at the Jean Lévy media library on the same dates. LE RÊVE D'ÊTRE ARTISTE

20 SEPTEMBER 2019 > 06 JANUARY 2020 - PALAIS DES BEAUX-ARTS, LILLE After the exhibition Joie de Vivre and the large retrospective Jean-François Millet, the Palais des Beaux-Arts presents Il était une fois l'artiste. For an artist, the Eldorado is about making a name for himself, living off his art, being recognized by his peers, being a reference... Since the Middle Ages, when the painter and sculptor were still only craftsmen, until today, the artist dreams of making his place in the sun. To achieve this, he built over the centuries an incredible strategy of social elevation, which allowed him to tear himself away from his condition, to create freely while living alongside the powerful, princes and kings. Artists are gradually establishing themselves as singular beings, out

of the ordinary, evoking respect and admiration, as well as controversies, censorship and persecution. From Albrecht Dürer to Wim Delvoye, Jacques-Louis David, Edouard Manet, Jeff Koons and Marina Abramovic, and through recurring themes such as signature, self-representation, genius and corporatism, the exhibition tells the story of the construction of a myth, that of the artisan who wanted to be immortal. THE GREEN GODDESS 27 APRIL > 03 NOVEMBER 2019 GARE SAINT SAUVEUR, LILLE

The infinite lush landscapes and ecosystems of our planet have always fascinated its inhabitants. The object of an endless war both against its destructive powers and for the control of its fertility and resources, Nature is an Eldorado that humans very early considered as a protean divinity, symbolized in world mythologies by animals, young women and other entities often anthropomorphic. If Man has always empirically understood the fragile side of nature - hence its embodiment by the graceful forms of nymphs and other woodland characters - its possible finiteness, even extinction, has only recently been scientifically accepted. Awareness of climate change is recent and not yet unanimous, when it is not simply opposed by an end to not receiving, the fatalistic argument that "it is already too late". Yet, as all scientists agree, Nature will survive our human extinction. Like a cyborg, every leaf, every plant, every organism has the constant ability to mutate, reset or modify its circuits to adapt to new circumstances. The notion of "nature" exists only in dynamic relation to that of "culture" as a definition of human presence on earth, as well as the way in which its global lifestyles, driven by colonization and late capitalism, influence the environment and vice versa.

The Green Goddess of the title is then thought of both as a character, a "generic" incarnation of the idea of nature, but also as a synesthetic landscape composed by the works in the exhibition. The latter illustrate with striking accuracy the drastic alterations undergone by human, plant and animal kingdoms since the last century, and refer both to the contemporary technological relationship we maintain with our environment and to other systems of understanding of it, particularly those of the peoples of the Americas. Drawing a parallel between the forms of art and the forms of nature, the exhibition takes the playful form of a vast dystopic greenhouse recreated in the Gare Saint Sauveur. In an incessant dialogue with the notion, which is also crucial, of a world built through the figure of ruin, whether urban or from vanished civilizations, but also from the modernist architectural ideal, the exhibition refers to many landscapes, gardens, mythical, imaginary and/or historical representations of nature, in connection with art, indigenous cosmogonies, technology or science fiction. The works, plant elements of a virgin forest, architectural modules or inhabitants/protagonists, blend into an exotic, spectacular and purposefully apocalyptic scenography, highlighting the ambiguities of the notions of naturalness, authenticity and exploitation. BIKINI WAX EPS

27 APRIL > 09 JUNE 2019 GARE SAINT SAUVEUR, LILLE For Eldorado, on the esplanade side, the old walled house of the Gare Saint Sauveur reopens its doors to the public... and to artists! The keys were entrusted to the Mexican collective BIQUINI WAX EPS, in collaboration with La Malterie. In a conceptual and performative movement, artists make no distinction between a place to live and a place to exhibit, like the house they occupy in Mexico City, a real centre for artistic and intellectual experimentation. Divided into two groups, the''Dorilocos'' and''Los Piedrosos'', eight members of the collective take turns to propose to the public the appropriation of this new space until then unexploited.

Under the mysterious title of their project The Midas taco touch and the Philosopher's stone, the Biquini Wax want to see the El Dorado as an act and not a place. Referring to the myths of King Midas, who transforms everything he touches into gold, and to the myth of the philosopher's stone, a substance capable of changing lead into a precious metal, they question the very definition of the word''gild'' and the essence of''El Dorado''. Taco stand, drawing machine, gilding factory, painting workshops, customization, games... the Biquini Wax come to turn the house upside down!

HOTEL EUROPA : HOTEL BARRAGAN 27 APRIL > 03 NOVEMBER 2019 GARE SAINT SAUVEUR, LILLE

For this edition, Hotel Europa is inspired by Luis Barrágan, the famous Mexican architect of the last century, and more particularly by the Casa Luis Barrágan built in Mexico City in 1948 and inhabited by its author until 1988. Inventor of the theory of so-called emotional architecture, Barrágan's austere but colourful style is a fusion, often associated with Western projections of modern Mexican movements described as exotic because they are more sensual and closer to nature

than European trends. Considered a masterpiece of contemporary architecture, it combines traditional and vernacular elements with past and present philosophical and artistic trends in a new synthesis. Find the rooms of this hotel hidden in the heart of the jungle represented by The Green Goddess, designed by Dorothée Dupuis, Engel Leonardo, Lucile Littot, Fabiola Torrez Alzaga and the lille3000 teams.

URBAN FARM

27 APRIL > 03 NOVEMBER 2019 GARE SAINT SAUVEUR, LILLE Since 2015, lille3000 has been developing a Urban Farm project and offers the public a large above-ground vegetable garden in the heart of the city. This shared garden is at the heart of a collaborative project involving the City of Lille, the Maison Régionale de l'Environnement et des Solidarités, nature associations, volunteer gardeners and local residents. With more than 300 smartpots, the Ferme urbaine de la Gare Saint Sauveur invites the inhabitants of Lille to come and grow vegetables, made from non-hybrid seeds and sometimes little known species. A collective of gardeners

maintains part of these pots. Everyone can participate in the planting, experiments, activities and harvests of this large collective vegetable garden. From March 30, also find the seed counter which, for Eldorado, is in the colours of Mexico (corn, tomatoes, squash, beans...). In partnership with MRES and ENSAPL. The Urban Farm was designed as part of Renaissance and was sponsored by Caisse des Dépôts.

There are also many examples of positive relationships between living beings: solidarity, mutual aid, sharing, altruism... These natural behaviours remind us of the benefits of "living together". The exhibition questions the importance of these collaborations for survival: how does partnering improve access to food, protect against predators, find a partner, raise young people, and even have fun?

CASA LOCA

27 APRIL > 28 JULY 2019 MAISON FOLIE MOULINS / FLOW, LILLE The Folie Moulins house and the FLOW have been transformed into a real Casa Loca. In these places where people meet and exchanges, it is the indigenous culture that is honoured. From the city of Oaxaca in Mexico to the con ns ns of the Amazonian forest, passing through the mountains of the Sierra Madre, three collectives take, one after the other, possession of the spaces. The public can then discover the rich heritage of these guests through numerous graphic creations, songs and stories, crafts or even gastronomy. While questioning identity issues, the Tlacolulokos, artisans of the Wixarika (Huichol) people and members of the Huni Kuin tribe accompanied by Naziha Mestaoui tell and share their universe. Although very different in their practices and aesthetics, they share a common message: the promotion of the richness of Aboriginal cultures.

Through rituals, workshops for young and old, participatory works and sales of objects, Casa Loca becomes a home where the shamanic dimension of their arts is awakened. During the residencies, an evolving "exhibition-workshop", born from the imprint of the passage of three visions of the world, immerses the visitor in a dreamed or even fantasized reality. A call to travel both physically and introspectively. You can also meet the Tlacolulokos at the Hospice Comtesse Museum with the exhibition "Oaxaca in Los Angeles" and during BIAM#4 then in collaboration with the Renart Collective, and Mónica Iturribarría at the Manufacture de Roubaix with the exhibition "Mexican Contemporary Textil Art".

LES ENFANTS DU PARADIS 24 APRIL > 26 AUGUST 2019 MUba EUGÈNE LEROY, TOURCOING

Painting has long been fascinated by the search for Elsewhere. The painters of the 18th and 19th centuries even nourished the collective imagination and supported the colonial adventure with exotic or oriental visions that were widely dreamed of, and above all very stereotypical. Impossible to return to it: in the 20th century, painting developed its critical consciousness, moved away from these misleading exoticisms and massively accompanied the most emancipatory political struggles. The quest for other horizons is undoubtedly to be sought on the side of abstraction, which opens new areas for painting and its viewers, made of reflection and spirituality, bathed in the materiality of colours but clearly detached from the real contingencies of the world. Is there still a place for painting today? What can painters still offer in a globalized world, mapped to the extreme and especially saturated with images? When visions of exoticism are mainly the result of a tourist industry that promotes and overshoots highly formatted "dream destinations"? It is this very current situation of painting that the exhibition Les Enfants du paradis intends to address, with a title borrowed for its poetry from Marcel Carné's famous film where the characters are as extravagant as they are melancholic.

contemporary world that is once again turning towards nature, unlike a romantic imagination. It is a nature as a territory of a new confrontation of man facing a tenfold need to leave the framework. Their pictorial reveries affirm painting as a place of intense and colorful enjoyment: art as Eldorado. A sign of a true richness and renewal of contemporary painting, the exhibition invites visitors to embark on a journey of unprecedented pictorial explorations, between enchantments and disenchantments, between lost illusions and new ecstasies. Curator : Jérôme Sans, Jean-Max Colard, With Isabelle Bernini

In pursuit of Eldorado, and in search of another place that is neither the ancient exoticism of the colonial world, nor the formatted visions of world tourism, nor the ultra-capitalist dream of tax havens, the exhibition Les Enfants du paradis reflects a new generation of French and foreign painters who, for several years, have been populating the web space with enigmatic scenes, undefined landscapes, faded paradises, improbable communities. Whether inspired by folk rites or revisiting the utopian ideologies of recent decades, these artists navigate freely between figuration and abstraction and reaffirm the strength of the painted image within a

and experiment with them: envelopes, postcards, bricks, ceramics, sheet metal, tablecloths, cut or torn paper, magazines. The exhibition is a comparison of all his teeming explorations with the artist's major works, in painting, sculpture or ceramics.

ALBERTO GIACOMETTI A MODERN ADVENTURE 13 MARCH > 11 JUNE 2019 LaM, VILLENEUVE D’ASCQ

After the success of the Amedeo Modigliani exhibition. With an inner eye in 2016, LaM invites you in spring 2019 to take a new look at one of the greatest artists of the 20th century: Alberto Giacometti, hitherto little shown in museums in Northern Europe. Nearly 150 works are brought together through an unpublished visit to the founding myths of the history of modern art. Alberto Giacometti's slender and fragile sculptures, inscribed in our imagination, form silhouettes of men and women who are immobile or caught up in a movement of walking or falling. The presentation of these masterpieces is enriched by exceptional loans that will reveal Giacometti's unique artistic journey: his first works influenced by the Cubist movement, his passion for Egyptian antiquity - a source of inspiration and renewal throughout his life - his encounter with the Surrealists, not to mention his later pictorial works. Offering a renewed perspective on the work of the artist whose career spans nearly half a century, the visit continues in the museum's rooms where some counterpoints will be proposed, notably around photographs of the artist in his studio. Exhibition-event presented in collaboration with the Giacometti Foundation, Paris. Commissariat : Catherine Grenier, Sébastien Delot - Commissariat associé : Christian Alandete, Jeanne-Bathilde Lacourt.

JULIEN SALAUD, JUNGLE & SENTIMENTS 27 APRIL > 18 AUGUST 2019 MAISON FOLIE LE COLYSÉE, LAMBERSART Julien Salaud is an artist whose practice is constantly reinventing itself and whose numerous inspirations draw in particular from ethnological and ecological considerations, which link Man and Nature. For Eldorado, he transformed the Colosseum into a neoAztec temple, in which monumental works rise. These aesthetic actions are the translation of a new artistic manifesto. This temple is dedicated to a particular form of human ecology based on feelings and imagination. Nourished by his many travels, particularly in French Guiana and recently in Mexico, he was able to learn the weight of feelings, the power of legends and the power of the imagination. For several years now, the artist has been working with materials and techniques well known to Amerindian

peoples: pearls, feathers, furs, arrow knots, weaving... He has recently turned to the work of wax, metal (lead and tin), wood, straw, plaster and ceramics. The Jungle and Feelings exhibition is the result of artistic and/or craft collaborations using natural materials and techniques that minimize negative impacts on the environment. A true poetic presentation, Jungle and Feelings is also a community project based on exchange of knowledge and craft practices drawing on the artist's imagination and his vision of Eldorado. JULES ADLER, PAINTING DURING THE THIRD REPUBLIC

La Piscine joins forces with the museums of La Rochelle and Limoges to pay tribute to Gustave Guillaumet (18401887), an essential figure in 19th century Orientalist painting. Between fascination and lucidity, it evokes, in the historical context of colonization, the attraction of the abyssal desert and the scrupulous observation of daily life. Gustave Guillaumet discovered Algeria by chance when he was due to embark for Italy. Fascinated by the country he travels passionately, he devotes his short life to it, going so far as to live there as well as with Algerians. A dazzled observer of the desert, he gives an almost mystical vision of it, of a surprising strength and an unequalled presence. Curator: Marie Gautheron, art historian

HOMER

27 MARCH > 22 JULY 2019 MUSÉE DU LOUVRE-LENS

The Louvre-Lens Museum presents the largest exhibition in France ever dedicated to Homer, the author of The Iliad and The Odyssey, the two famous epics upon which of all Western culture is founded. It offers a unique immersion into the richness of the Homeric world, both beautiful and mysterious. After a prelude dedicated to the gods of Olympus and the Muse invoked by Homer, the exhibition sets out to discover the “prince of poets”, whose very existence is a matter of debate. It also explores the phenomena of “homeromania”, which marked archaeological research and inspired works or behaviours, cultivating a rich trend of Homeric imitation, even in everyday life. The exhibition then brings the main heroes and stories of The Iliad and The Odyssey back to life for visitors. Archaelogical objects and modern works thus evoke the way in which these epics have been represented in images, with a rare constancy but with variations according to the periods, in keeping with evolving tastes. The visit also returns to the most famous scenes of the Trojan War, also described by other poems read in antiquity that are now lost, highlighting the profusion of epic narratives in the ancient world and reminding us how miraculous it is that Homer’s works were preserved. 25 SEPTEMBER 2019 > 20 JANUARY 2020 MUSÉE DU LOUVRE-LENS The year 2019 marks the centenary of the signing, on 03 September 1919, of the agreement between France and Poland "on emigration and immigration", which led to the massive arrival of Polish workers in France and more particularly in the mining basin in the north of the country. To commemorate this important event for the identity of the territory, the Louvre-Lens Museum is offering a major retrospective on 19th century Polish painting, in association with the National Museum of Warsaw.

Benoît Paillé, a Quebec artist, presents, in the Surreal Mexico series, a timeless Mexico. Despite appearances, few retouching is done on each photograph. The photographer's device lies in his coloured lamps, self-sufficient lamps that are always ready to use in his truck. "Not all the photos I take are staged, they are spontaneous using the real flash effect and the people on the spot. Individuals are integrated into a panomora with a powerful immersive aesthetic to question the relationship between Man and his environment. DULCE PINZÓN, THE TRUE STORY OF SUPER HEROES

03 SEPTEMBER > 02 NOVEMBER 2019 LA CORDERIE, MARCQ-EN-BARŒUL

Dulce Pinzón, of Mexican origin, has established himself on the photography scene in recent years, particularly with his series The real story of Superheroes. This photographic series highlights the abandonment of these men and women disguised as superheroes in their workplaces, to allow their loved ones to survive. The artist thus takes a critical look at the new Eldorados that the contemporary world promises us and seeks to highlight the daily reality of these individuals.

DULCE PINZÓN, SPIDERMAN, DE LA SÉRIE “ THE REAL STORY OF SUPERHEROES ”, 2010

THE WINDOWS THAT SPEAK ELDORADO 04 > 26 MAY 2019 LILLE & EUROPEAN METROPOLIS OF LILLE Since 1999, Réso Asso Métro has been a collective of associations of residents of the Lille metropolis that share and cultivate very simply some values: cultural openness, conviviality and participation in local life. The "Windows Talking" action, carried out collectively since 2002, is an emblematic moment that is highly representative of the network's philosophy. With the complicity of the inhabitants, the artists play the game of comparing their works with the view of passers-by. They are disrupting daily life. Every weekend, associations, artists and residents invite you to share unusual moments on the occasion of many events. Eldorado Windows are scattered throughout the participating neighbourhoods and cities. Their discovery is a real treasure hunt as they set out to discover a promising stranger.

The Bureau d'Art et de Recherche and Spark offer a selection of contemporary works at the Q.S.P. Galerie as well as a program of Mexican videos outside the walls on the Roubaix territory. To answer a subject associated with conquests, migrations, and myths, the Bureau d'Art et de Recherche invites Commissioner Marianne Feder, who proposes Chimères de l'Ailleurs. This exhibition brings together Marie Aerts, Vir Andres Hera, Bertrand Dezoteux, Romuald DumasJandolo, Augustin Lesage, Rémi Tamburini and explores the definition of El Dorado "country, place, place, place, imaginary or real, where nothing is missing, both wealth and pleasure". To exhilarating expeditions and exoticism, the six artists from diverse backgrounds choose utopias - desires and illusions - that justify a departure into the unknown.

CARLOS AMORALES, PROTESTA FANTASMA 27 APRIL > 14 JULY 2019 ESPACE LE CARRÉ, LILLE

The Mexican artist proposes an in situ installation composed of silhouettes in search of identity and landmarks; each of them questions the individual's place in the world, his fears, questions and aspirations. He thus creates a unique, lively and particularly realistic work that instantly captures visitors.

MARÍA ISABEL RUEDA, PARADIS PERDU 25 APRIL > 24 MAY 2019 ESPACE EDOUARD PIGNON, LILLE

The idea of paradise has always been interpreted in visual culture as a space where what would not otherwise be possible can take place, a space where the logic of our existence can possibly be reversed in our favour. A kind of utopia, paradise is here an idyllic universe where we deposit desires, sometimes even perversion, capable of redefining our daily relationship. María Isabel Rueda explores this

desire to imagine other places, where nature and the female body interact in a homogeneous way and unfold in the field of drawing until they overflow. These images are the result of notes written by the artist during his travels as pieces of daily life.

As part of "ELDORADO", the Centre d'Art Sacré de Lille, in partnership with LILLE 3000, has decided once again this summer to honour artists from the southern hemisphere. The works on display from the DELAINE Collection and the collection of the Centre d'Art Sacré always speak to us of this suffering Humanity which, in a surge of hope, feels called to overcome suffering and build a better world. All this is told to us by artists, most of whom are atheists or agnostics, based on the figure of Christ in a profusion of shimmering colours, materials and movements. These artists from Latin America, the Iberian Peninsula and Italy were influenced by primitive and Hispanic art.

09 MAY > 26 OCTOBER 2019 ON TOUR LILLE AND IN THE EUROPEAN METROPOLIS OF LILLE

Man has always dreamed of leaving Earth and exploring the Universe. Long before the first manned space flights, novels of anticipation, science fiction, led us to believe that the Earth is only the cradle of Humanity and that its destiny is to conquer this Eldorado that is space. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the first step of Man on the Moon, the Departmental Science Forum of Villeneuve d'Ascq invites you to live or relive this historic moment. For six months, a travelling planetarium will travel through the city's territory to plunge or plunge its inhabitants into the world of space conquest. A discovery of the starry sky, a privileged moment under the stars that will be an opportunity to get to know a little better the immensity of the Universe. Proposed by the Departmental Science Forum in Villeneuve d'Ascq.

The Alebrijes were born from the spirit of Pedro Linares López in 1936. Legend has it that the latter, on the verge of death, dreamed of a wood populated by those creatures who accompanied him in his return to consciousness. Some of these monsters were shouting "Alebrijes, Alebrijes, Alebrijes". That's how he decided to name his creations.

Mexico City (Artsumex), the El Volador workshops in Mexico City and lille3000. A monumental Alebrije is also on display in Roubaix. These Alebrijes were made in the artisans' workshops in Mexico City and with the support of the Oaxaca region, which houses the workshops of the greatest craftsmen, specialized in the design of these imaginary animals.

Alebrijes are traditionally statues made of copal wood or papier-mâché representing wild and domestic animals, fantastic creatures, usually made of hybrid elements. Like other expressions of Mexican craftsmanship, they reflect the creativity, fantasy and technical skill of Mexican artists.

Construction under the supervision of the teams of lille3000 and Romain Greco.

Over 250 metres, Rue Faidherbe houses ten monumental sculptures from Alebrijes created in partnership with the artisans of the Museum of Popular Art in Mexico City,

BETSABEÉ ROMERO, SOLES DE ORO 27 APRIL > 01 DECEMBER 2019 VIEILLE BOURSE, LILLE

The installation Soles de Oro invests the Old Stock Exchange of Lille as part of ELDORADO, and carries a multitude of meanings and cultural references. An object particularly studied during the Renaissance in the discovery of other perspectives, the mirror refers here to solar iconography. Its form and power to produce rays, reflections of light and fire refer to rituals and ceremonies in pre-Hispanic myths and civilizations. Its convex shape also makes it possible to go beyond the simple reflection of reality and to borrow from mystical and mythological language. Magic objects, offerings or rituals of communication with ancestors in Amerindian cults, the mirror opens the doors of another time, another space. In an era where the individual does not stop confronting his own image through the almost universal use of the selfie, the mirror is used systematically, as a means of surveillance, of himself or of the other. Uncompromising and ambiguous, it makes it possible to see, discover, but also to monitor and be seen. Find Betsabeé Romero's works in the hospice of Havré, in Tourcoing through the exhibition "La route des plumes d'or", in the public spaces in Lille during the parade and in the courtyard of the Hospice Comtesse museum in Lille. You can also find Betsabeé Romero's works at the Folie Hospice d'Havré house in Tourcoing and in the courtyard of the Musée de l'Hospice Comtesse in Lille. With the support of EDF and Méert.

For several years, Betsabeé Romero has been working in the various fields of creation, around works with strong iconographic power and guardians of memory. Through a very varied pastic language, the works combine vernacular practices and contemporary concerns, creating constant and often powerful dialogues. Betsabeé Romero focuses her work on transformed objects and accessories, reflecting both the quest for cultural identity and the societal changes brought about by globalization. Installed in 2017 in Mexico City for the DÍa de los Muertos, the facility features trajineras, flatbottomed boats sailing in the canals of Tenochtitlán, the former capital of the Aztec empire.

LUKE JERRAM MUSEUM OF THE MOON

WEEK-END MOON 19 > 21 JUL

27 APRIL > 01 DECEMBER 2019 GARE LILLE FLANDRES

From Georges Méliès’ journey to the moon, to Charles Baudelaire’s sad moon, to Moon River sung by Frank Sinatra, the moon has inspired artists, poets, writers and musicians from all over the world. Different cultures around the world have their own historical, cultural and religious relationships with the Moon. Border between sun and darkness, in Aztec culture, it refers both to carnal love and allows the dying to confess their faults. Museum of the Moon allows us to observe and contemplate cultural similarities and differences around the world and to consider the latest lunar scientific advances. Depending on where the work is presented, its meaning and interpretation change. Measuring ten metres in diameter, Museum of the Moon presents detailed images of NASA’s lunar surface. On an approximate scale of 1: 350,000, each centimetre of the internally illuminated spherical sculpture represents 3.5 km from the Earth’s satellite. The work has been presented in different ways, both inside and outside. From one place to another it raises new questions but always impresses, also placing us in the immensity of space and thus sending us back to the infinitely small. History, mythology, cosmology blend

together to offer visitors the impression of a journey that is both inaccessible and real. The soundtrack is created by Dan Jones, a BAFTA awardwinning composer and Ivor Novello. Find this installation on the occasion of the Moon weekend celebrating the 50th anniversary of Man’s first step on the Moon on July 21, 1969 With the support of the SNCF Museum of the Moon has been co-commissioned by a number of creative organisations brought together by Luke Jerram and Norfolk & Norwich Festival. These include: At-Bristol, Kimmel Center, Lakes Alive, Provincial Domain Dommelhof, Brighton Festival, Greenwich+Docklands International Festival, Without Walls, Cork Midsummer Festival and Les Tombées de la Nuit, Rennes. Detonador is a multidisciplinary Peruvian collective that creates monumental sculptures but also floats for street performances, scenographies and special effects for theatre and cinema. Invited to Eldorado, he highlights the need to preserve the Amazonian Jungle, once perceived as an inexhaustible Eldorado, which is now at risk and its resources are running out. Four monumental works are presented at the Maison folie le Fort de Mons, in Mons-en-Baroeul and in Jean Baptiste Lebas Park. The project is called Païtiti, a magical name forgotten among the myths and legends of treasure seekers, Incas and conquerors. Le Païtititi is located in the heart of the Amazon, home to the spirits of the jungle. The planet's resources are now being attacked by man blinded by

the ambition of gold. They contaminate and destroy the forest, a refuge for threatened fauna and flora. Faced with this situation, fallen trees turn into large animals, such as Pirarucu (river giants), Amaru (corsican snakes), or Otorongo (jungle guardians). Forest spirits are present in the Mons-en- Baroeul district to alert us to the danger threatening the planet and thus show new generations that the richness of the Amazon lies in its diversity. The true treasure of the future will not be golden, it will be green. AMARU - Cosmic Serpent PIRARUCU - River Giant OTORONGO - Jungle Guardian TRITETE - Animalman

Angry God takes the form of a bewitching sound dive into the heart of the Amazonian forest, a once immaculate nature where communities and elements evolved in perfect osmosis, thanks to a symphony of the wild and powerfully inspiring. By imposing his own reality on the world, man kills every day a little bit the nature which, in an impossible balance, tends to disappear, to disappear, to become only the echo of a world in negative. For Angry God, Soundwalk Collective embarked on the curves of the Amazon, going back in time and in time to question the relationship of man to nature, of man to his nature, and the fundamental notion of the sacred. Angry God's film was shot in the middle of the Amazonian night in negative and to raise awareness of climate change and the impacts of human activity, Angry God invites the viewer to use his phone to restore nature to its positive state. In parallel between 2015 and 2018, Soundwalk Collective

made a series of night sound recordings in collaboration with Francisco López in the most remote parts of the Amazon, in Peru on the Brazilian border. Arranged for an immersive sound installation thanks to a 14-channel diffusion device, Angry God also evokes the invisible, indivisible, sacred source of energy that exists between animals, air and trees. At the mercy of a slow dissolution, the melodies remarkably integrate the dense sound tapestry of nature from which spirits of the forest and sacred songs of the Shipibo shamans emerge, leaving behind them an evanescent fog that perhaps reflects man's failure and error in trying to control nature. Divine in its permanence and own harmony, nature always takes back its rights.

Mexicraneos, a funeral home company in Mexico City, offers these giant skulls, presented at the last Feast of the Dead dice in November 2018. Emblematic of Mexican culture, they are customised and coloured by many artists for the famous "DÍa del Los Muertos". Celebrated every November 2nd, this very colourful festival mixes Aztec and Christian traditions of the Spanish conquistadors, symbolized by these Calaveras. In 2003, UNESCO classified the indigenous festivals dedicated to the dead as "intangible cultural heritage of humanity".

SECRET GARDENS OF ELDORADO

27 APRIL > 31 OCTOBER 2019 LILLE, EUROPEAN METROPOLIS OF LILLE & REGION HAUTS-DE-FRANCE The history of the gardens is a thousand years old. Originating in Mesopotamia, it finds its echo in ancient America. From the terraced culture of the Andes to the Chinampas of Mexico, still called floating gardens, ancient Amerindian civilizations have created innovative gardens. Today, and universally, the garden symbolizes the relationship between Man and Nature, it questions lifestyles, and reminds us of our primary needs through its multicultural character, and its aesthetics. In their race to Eldorado, the conquistadors encountered a breathtaking nature rich in diversity. Several botanical expeditions brought back some fragments of it to Europe. Can green gold, a reflection of the lush Amazonian forests, be found in the gardens of our latitudes?

which the visitor is led to travel from garden to garden to rediscover the green heritage of the Lille metropolis. It is also an opportunity to highlight the 15 Jardins de la Paix, inaugurated in November 2018 and the 3 Jardins de la Vallée de la Somme, all managed and developed by the art & gardens creation label, in the Hauts-de-France Region. With the support of Caisse des Dépôts and Duval.

Faced with the problems of climate change and crisis, the simultaneous need to escape and return to one's roots, dreaming and dreaming, can the garden be considered as the path towards a personal, participatory and collective Eldorado? It is in this perspective developing the imagination that lille3000, in collaboration with the art & gardens team Hauts-de-France, bearers of the "Jardins de la paix" and the "Festival International de jardins - Hortillonnages Amiens" festival, offers a new look at metropolitan nature spaces that are already known or, on the contrary, unknown or secret. In the form of a treasure hunt, the Secret Gardens in Eldorado project is an invitation to a journey of rediscovery of Lille and metropolitan nature spaces. The project consists of the installation of artistic or landscape creations created in situ or not, within the gardens. It highlights the green gold that is our natural spaces, parks, and gardens, metropolitan and regional. It is thus some Lille and metropolitan gardens, from public gardens to natural metropolitan areas, that are transformed within the framework of Eldorado. These gardens become stages of cycling or walking routes in

ART & GARDENS "Landscape art and artwork, which are resolutely contemporary, enter the public space through gardens, through the city, at the heart of the built and natural heritage. It is about sustainable development, social integration and basic resources, water, agriculture and food." Gilbert Fillinger. In 2010, at the initiative of its director Gilbert Fillinger, the Maison de la Culture d'Amiens created the Festival International de jardins Hortillonnages Amiens, a festival of landscape creations and installations of works of art in the islets of the Hortillonnages in Amiens and along the Somme. In 2018, this international garden festival continues, supported by the art & garden creation label, directed by Gilbert Fillinger.

As a producer of contemporary and landscape works in public spaces, the association, led by Gilbert Fillinger, reveals and questions the region's heritage sites. It is also developing other sustainable regional projects in the Hauts-de-France, such as the Jardins de la Paix. Regional sites for the Peace Gardens and Gardens of the Somme Valley with Art & Gardens: Abbeville, Amiens (International Garden Festival - Hortillonnages Amiens), Arras, Craonne, Compiègne, Fromelles, Le Quesnoy, Long, Neuville-Saint-Vaast, Notre-Dame-de-Lorette, Péronne, Saint-Quentin, Thiepval, Vimy.

PARC BLEU

It was born from the desire to carry out a project that would allow the French, Flemish and Walloon inhabitants to get to know their neighbours better, providing a starting point for genuine cross-border cooperation.

FROM THE 27 AVRIL EUROMETROPOLIS LILLE-KORTRIJK-TOURNAI The "Blue Park" of the Eurometropolis Lille-Kortrijk-Tournai is a blue and green space for relaxation or rest, celebration and culture, criss-crossed with hiking trails, cycle paths and ecological corridors where you can easily enjoy the water, boat and fishing.

For Eldorado, "Le Carré Bleu", a gentle 90km circuit along the waterfront between the Lys, the Bossuit (Kortrijk), Scheldt, Espierres, Roubaix and Deûle canals, will support works and plastic and landscape installations.

27 APRIL > 01 DECEMBER 2019 IN THE LILLE DISTRICTS & THE EUROPEAN METROPOLIS OF LILLE AND IN BELGIUM

Mexico is one of the paradises of mural painting, graf ti and fresco. Heirs of the tradition of great muralist painters such as Diego Riviera and José Gonzales Camarena, they produce monumental works that reflect pre-Hispanic codes, often mixed with more contemporary concerns. On the occasion of Eldorado, lille3000 collaborates with the Collectif Renart, and gives it carte blanche to involve Mexican artists Duek, Lelo, José, Spaïk, Cix, Alegria Del Prado, the Tlacolulokos collective, Colombian artist MarÍa Isabel Rueda and Peruvian artist Jade Riviera in the creation of monumental frescos. These international artists complement the rich program of the BIAM#4 International Biennale of Mural Art. Artists and collectives from Lille and the metropolitan area (Jef Aérosol, Obisk, Philippe Hollevout, Frelon, Collectif Epsilone, Abazedatome, Dr Colors...) also offer original frescoes to complete this rich program. Street art routes to discover and follow throughout the edition! With the support of Bouygues Bâtiment Nord-Est.

lille3000 ELDORADO

In partnership with the cultural structures, collectives, associations and municipalities of the Metropolis, Eldorado offers a varied programme, inviting everyone to travel and arousing curiosity and the desire to dream of the evocation of a known, unknown or imaginary country. In music, theatre or dance, the festival welcomes productions by artists, companies or groups from Mexico and South America, or from here, where many links are forged between popular and contemporary culture. The quest for the ideal is also at the heart of the program. A personal ideal where each individual can find the strength to change his destiny, and his sometimes inevitable corollary that is the loss of illusion. Or collective ideal, through the utopias that cross the ages and sometimes turn into major changes or revolutions. In the rooms, on stage, in the public space or in the gardens, the Eldorado is here on a playful journey, in pursuit of the objectives to be achieved and around the challenges of our time.

ELDORADO MUSICS 26 APRIL > 15 DECEMBER 2019

Under the artistic coordination of Hervé Brisse (Solo Tuba of the Orchestre National de Lille and Artistic Director of the Orchestre d'Harmonie de Lille-Fives), lille3000 invites musicians from Lille, the European Metropolitan Area of Lille and the Hauts-de-France Region to participate in Eldorado around several Mexican and South American inspired works, designed in several levels of difficulty and gracefully made available to all musical ensembles that wish to play them. The musical tale MACHU PICCHU was commissioned from two Picardy authors, Eric Bourdet for the music and Sébastien Gaudefroy for the texts. This unifying and educational project is designed to be developed by orchestras (adults, juniors), music schools, conservatories, choirs... in partnership with the National Education's primary and secondary schools. ELDORADO and MEXICANA, orchestral concert and parade works were created by the composer Thierry Deleruyelle (Arras), they include a concert part and a wandering part, in the spirit of Mexican popular festivals.

Mexican scores complete this repertoire. They come mainly from the city and the Region of Oaxaca, which has a strong tradition in the manufacture of musical instruments inherited from the arrival of the Spanish in the 16th century, and concentrates a large number of bandas, which by their repertoire and customs, are similar to the harmonies of northern France. In addition to the opening parade on 27 April 2019, the entire programme will be the subject of concerts and festive and thematic events during 2019 in the municipalities of Lille, the Metropolitan Area and the Hauts-de-France Region. COORDINATION: HERVÉ BRISSE, IN COLLABORATION WITH CMF HAUTS-DE-FRANCE.

SPECTACLES & FESTIVALS ORCHESTRE NATIONAL DE LILLE CYCLE MAHLER - L’INTÉGRALE DES SYMPHONIES DE MAHLER DANS LEUR ORDRE CHRONOLOGIQUE

FROM THE 01 FEBRUARY 2019 LE NOUVEAU SIÈCLE, LILLE

For Eldorado, lille3000 and the Orchestra are partnering around the Mahler cycle, the two projects meet around an essential theme: the exploration of new worlds. ONL Music Director Alexandre Bloch has an exciting project in mind: to offer the complete Mahler symphonies in chronological order. An opportunity to follow the creative journey of a unique musical genius, who revolutionized symphonic writing with his visionary excess. Each symphony builds a universe in its own right. And with its colourful textures, Mahler is already a complete part of Symphony No. 1, "Titan". In the first part, the great British horn player Alec Frank-Gemmill performs Mozart's horn works, wonders of refinement and instrumental virtuosity.

Maxime Dessein, flutist, musical speaker in Roubaix. Nine municipalities are partners through their social centres: Armentières, Faches-Thumesnil, Hem, Lille Sud, Marcq-en-Barœul, Mons-en-Baroeul, Roubaix, Villneuve d'Ascq, Wattrelos.

LE THÉÂTRE DU NORD LILLE

DÉPART VOLONTAIRE OF REMI DE VOS & CHRISTOPHE RAUCK

14 > 26 MAY 2019

Xavier Garnier has been working as a back office technician in a bank for seven years when a voluntary redundancy plan was announced. He is a candidate and already dreams of a new life and setting up his company with his benefits. Until the day he learns that - despite his validation - his application is definitively blocked. Xavier decides to attack the bank in court. "This is the 5th commission I have placed with Rémi De Vos and I suggested that he work between story and fiction. In this court where the trial will take place, we will also see the story of this man put into abyss" explains Christophe Rauck. The Director of the Theatre of the

Nord will lead five actors, four of whom will play several roles, a multiplicity of acting written in this caustic text by Rémi De Vos that takes the spectator into a wild delirium where lies are fed on both sides....

B. TRAVEN OF FRÉDÉRIC SONNTAG 04 > 06 JUNE 2019

American journalist with an adventurous soul, a Parisian squatter who dreams of Chiapas, a persecuted scriptwriter, a poet boxer... These characters of the 20th century converge towards a country, the new Eldorado Mexico, and towards a single story: that of the adventurer novelist B. Traven (1882-1969). The author of the famous Treasure of the Sierra Madre, which inspired the filmmaker John Huston, has constantly multiplied the false leads on his existence and covered with many identities. "Fleeing media coverage to escape any identification, any belonging, any recovery," sums up Frédéric Sonntag, who after Georges Kaplan (2013) and Benjamin Walter (2015) stages a labyrinthine, funny and captivating investigation into this extraordinary ghost character. Eight actors and two musicians cross the ages at a frenzied pace to draw in the hollow the face of the one who refused to have a single identity. Welcomed for the first time at the Théâtre du Nord, Frédéric Sonntag completes his "Phantom Trilogy" with B. Traven. A cycle that, through three ghostly characters (George Kaplan, Benjamin Walter and B. Traven), investigates the concept of identity and the function of stories in the 20th and 21st centuries.

LE GRAND BLEU LILLE

FESTIVAL YOUTH IS GREAT For four years now, Le Grand Bleu has been offering a festival designed for and with teenagers. Youth is Great "La jeunesse est formidable" is a highlight with an emancipating multidisciplinary program. It is also a space of freedom for the new generations. A space to hear, see and experience what today's youth is like through shows, participative creations, encounters and experiences to be lived. Youth is Great offers you the opportunity to live in the colours of Eldorado. So that the youth around us can reflect, rethink the world differently and "knit new utopias", with a set of artistic proposals that are as many doors open to the world but also support points to learn to exchange, share and live together.

CLOSE TO ME 19 APRIL & 05 MAY 2019 How, in our contemporary societies, do we live with each other? Guy Alloucherie and the artists of the HVDZ company approach the subject through the prism of youth. Fifty young people from the Hauts-de-France take control of the show and make their voices heard by using the tools of art, juggling different media and artistic disciplines. Young people from three different territories (Oise, Bassin Minier and Métropole lilloise), with different histories and backgrounds.

LE PRATO ASTRID HADAD : TIERRA MISTERIOSA 06 > 08 JUNE 2019 8PM LE PRATO, LILLE

Astrid Hadad is a cultural reference in Mexico. A singer and actress, she changed her costume 13 times during her show and was called "musée ambulant des cultures populaires". These costumes illustrate or deconstruct the themes she addresses in song or through her iconoclastic commentaries. She is unclassifiable and she says, mocking herself, that she has passed in 30 years of career, from underground to alternative culture... It combines traditional song, ranchera, rumba, bolero, rock, jazz and even Gregorian chant. She is unclassifiable although she claims her references to the German political cabaret, but who would have gone through the tropics.... Ironically she called her style "Heavy Nopal", a fusion between Heavy Metal and Mexicanity (the nopal is the cactus that appears

on the national flag). Astrid Hadad has performed all over the world, from universities to major festivals, from museums to theatres, from folk festivals to cabarets. The theme of Eldorado was very inspiring for her. Gold was considered a sacred metal by pre-Hispanic societies. It served as a vector between men and gods and was never associated with a market value. It is this value that motivated the conquistadors in their search for Eldorado. Then Latin America offered them gold and silver, the object of their greed. Today, for migrant populations, Eldorado is this promised land, this "first world", the hope for a better life. The show will be articulated around these three axes: rituals, greed... illusion... with humour and glitter!

LES TOILES DANS LA VILLE #5 - “L’AILE DU RADEAU...” 20 & 23 JUNE / SEPT / DEC 2019 EUROPEAN METROPOLIS OF LILLE

Here the Canvases overflow the Cities. It's the planet city. The canvas: the weft. The canvas overflows the Net and erupts into reality. The canvas painted and repainted tirelessly. OF SERGE AIMÉ COULIBALY 05 > 07 JUNE 2019

CIE TEATRO LINEA DE SOMBRA 11 & 12 OCT 2019

Burkinabe choreographer Serge Aimé Coulibaly, after giving the explosive Kalakuta Republik last season, returns with Kirina. He evokes a world in full transformation, a world in which people go where they believe there is a future full of hope for them. And dance becomes this march. Kirina is the name of a town in Guinea where the battle that founded the Mandingo empire, a kind of Waterloo for West Africa, took place. There too, Men walked between doubt, fear, confrontation and sharing. Built in the form of a tragedy, the show is based on the libretto of the writer Felwine Sarr. A singer talks to the dancers and the lyricist, Ali Ouédraogo. The live music written by Rokia Traoré rhythms the choreography based on urgency. An intense contemporary African contemporary dance work that reminds us of the migratory movements of our world.

It is through the history of Mexico, torn apart by the violence of drug trafficking, that Baños Roma portrays a neglected, aging boxing champion and his surroundings.

ELDORADO(S)

OF PHILIPPE MÉNARD

UNE CERTAINE DOSE DE TENDRESSE 14 JUNE 2019 22 MAY 2019

A tale of historical "facts" that traces the long and tragic history of the conquest of the Americas. Four actors play twenty characters in turn and tell the story of how indigenous communities were dispossessed of their lands.

LA CONDITION PUBLIQUE ROUBAIX

The myth of Eldorado, which appeared in Colombia in the 16th century, is the waking dream of a country where gold would be abundant and every inhabitant would be extremely wealthy. A powerful image, which has fuelled the fantasies of European conquistadors. Today the term still bears the trace of these bloodthirsty conquests, but also the hope of a better life, a powerful lever of imagination. It is this dreamlike force, like a rampart to the gloom of the world, that choreographer Philippe Ménard wanted to summon as a priority. This participatory project invites spectators to explore new sensitive territories. A walking and immersive show is proposed, following the workshops, to relearn how to make room, together, for a little desire in our lives. Choreographer: Philippe Menard

Mexico is responsible for many foods such as corn, cocoa, beans, pineapple, avocado, squash, vanilla, tomato and turkey. It should be noted that Mexican cuisine has been on UNESCO's World Heritage List since 2010.
