The Jessica Walsh Long sleeve In this design I took inspiration from famous graphic designer Jessica Walsh. In this design I used this quote from Jessica to inspire myself while creating this piece, “Pay attention to what you’re passionate about when no one is paying you”. This quote really set the tone for the whole collection, but in particular this piece. While creating this piece I thought about what I am passionate about in design? What tools do I love to use? With this contemplation I realized I love editing photos in interesting ways, and creating interesting effects with typography. Because of this I incorporated both of these design elements into this long sleeve shirt.

The Hila Klein T-Shirt In this design I took inspiration from Hila Klein, an artist and the CEO of the street wear brand Teddy Fresh. I read an interview with Hila Klein where she discussed her inspiration for creating her brand, she wanted clothes with more “naivety” for adults. This quote inspired me to try and have fun and do something naive with my design. It also inspired me to try and break rules that are generally followed in adult clothing. I broke general spacing on the shirt by having the mushrooms grow out of the bottom, and then having the large vertical distorted typography from the top of the shirt all the way to the bottom. The color of the mushrooms and the eyes on them also felt very fun and naive to me.

The Paula Scher Crewneck For this design I took inspiration from the first woman partner at Pentagram, Paula Scher. I took inspiration from advice Paula Scher gives designers, ““Find out what the next thing is that you can push, that you can invent, that you can be ignorant about, that you can be arrogant about, that you can fail with, and that you can be a fool with. Because in the end, that’s how you grow.” In this design I wrapped text around the front side into the back side of the crew neck, I had never seen this done before. I really liked how this looked and it felt original, but I decided to push it even more. To push this design further I overlayed texture, and an image of eyes onto this text, I felt like it gave this wrap around text an even more intriguing look.

The Irma Boom Sweatshirt With this design I took inspiration from book designer, Irma Boom. “You don’t start out a project to create a failure or success, I think it is very good to be unafraid to create something new or different”. While designing this sweatshirt I kept this quote in mind, how can I create something new or something different? I kept trying to push this while designing this piece and eventually I came up with the butterflies flying across the back, but I needed to push this more. To make this design new and feel different I gave the butterfly’s eyes on the wings. This direction really excited me! I loved the way the eyes made this piece feel. I liked this so much I decided to use it as a design element to build upon for the rest of the project.
