DESIGN MANUAL LILLY-ROSE WILSHIRE
1501579 DESIGN ENTERPRISE & INNOVATION
After visiting the Coast Oxford Street Store London, I have become more aware of the way in which outfits are visualised within the shop floor. Accessories placed next to dresses and trousers next to jackets help visualise how an outfit can be put together buy the consumer. I found it useful that the relaxed day and night wear where placed on the shop floor as you walk in and at the lower level it had a more luxurous feel with the formal day and event items placed accordingly to events. Visuals of models in garments helps create an image for customers on how they can style a garment and what it would look like for them - this helps create an overall image for consumers. Once I had visited the flagship store I decided that I would visit my local coast store in Bristol. Although significantly smaller than the flagship I found that there were similarities between visual marketing of items e.g. the same swingtags with models & quotes on, poster girls in the window. I also noticed that the window displays on both the flagship and Bristol store had the same teal hues in the garments however were not the same items in the display.
The concept throughout this project has taken direct reference of Wassily Kandinsky - Russian artist known for his distinctively abstract way of working. With his use of lines to work alongside geometric shapes paired with dynamic colour pallets that explore the whole spectrum of colour. Has there are multiple styles within the movement of Kandinsky’s work I wanted to focus on the imagery that plays on the use of shapes and bold lines, as I felt there were more relationships between other developing concepts such as architecture. The pairing of Kandinsky and Architecture, explore Brutalist Architecture - a period of architecture during the 70s that took inspiration from modernist architecture, with its bold statement structures with curves, circles and line work. I also found that the Bauhaus movement had a close link to Kandinsky has his way of working was a key feature in the development of the movement, with the unusual shapes and colours being reworked into varying other art styles, furniture, print and architecture.
