FROM THE DIRECTOR’S DESK Dear Residents of the West Chicago Park District, It is very typical for Parks and Recreation agencies to design, promote, and organize the activities and the benefits of recreation through programs, special events and parks usage. However, it becomes the choice and responsibility of the individual to select and participate in areas of interest. At the end of the day, each person must determine their own commitment and level of involvement for improving their own health and physical well-being. So, the underlying point is this---obesity is the #1 basic health problem of most Americans, and most critical is the growth of childhood obesity. West Chicago has the highest rate of childhood obesity in DuPage County. This is not just a statement, it is serious reality. Healthy West Chicago has been established to help address the nutritional and physical needs of our residents through education and activity, and the West Chicago Park District is committed to partnering in this effort. Please take the time to find out what you can do to improve the quality of your life. Make the healthy choice the right choice! Proud Partner
Thank you for your continued support.

PRESCHOOL Keppler Academy preschool 2015-2016
OP E N H OU S E
Introduction & Philosophy The West Chicago Park District’s Keppler Academy Preschool focuses on the developmental needs of children from three to five years old. Keppler Academy is designed to give children the tools and experiences necessary to assure a positive transition to kindergarten. Our program offers a warm, nurturing, and friendly environment where children can explore, create, and flourish. Socialization skills and independence are developed through a variety of daily skills and exercises.
Come join us to ask questions, meet our teachers and see our classroom! Thursday, March 10 from 6:00-8:00pm
Our philospophy is that all children learn through hands-on experiences, exploration, and positive interactions with others. Every child is unique and will develop at their own pace. We foster an environment that will help all children succeed emotionally, physically, and socially. Every child has their own learning style and we give many options to explore and build on those abilities.

The lower net and wiffle ball allow the game to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities, while still allowing more competitive players to test their mettle. It was created with one thing in mind: FUN! It is easy to learn and play so, grab a few friends and head to the ARC Center and give Pickleball a try! (ML)

FITNESS Yin Yoga Enjoy the healing benefits of Yin Yoga for both the mind and the body. This style of yoga is a more meditative approach with a physical focus that goes much deeper to access the deep connective tissues within the body that encompass a joint, such as the hips, pelvis, and lower spine. Yin Yoga postures are done mainly on the floor, and are unique in that you are asked to relax in the posture, soften the muscles and focus on the breath as you hold each posture for several minutes. As one ages, flexibility in the joints decreases, and Yin Yoga is a wonderful way to maintain that flexibility and live a healthy way of life. (BK) 16+ yrs Th 1/7-2/25 Th 3/3-4/28

Ice skating on a frozen pond might seem to be a way to enjoy cold weather, but the only safe place to ice skate is on a skating rink. For your safety, the West Chicago Park District does not allow ice skating or ice fishing on any Park District pond as skating on ponds can be hazardous. Remember, thin ice is never safe.

West Chicago Park District and the ADA The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) took effect in January 1990 and the West Chicago Park District complies with the legislation’s purpose which prohibits discrimination on the basis of a disability. The West Chicago Park District will make reasonable accommodations in recreation programs to enable participation by an individual with a disability that meets essential eligibility requirements for that leisure program and facilities. The ADA requires that recreation programs offered by the Park District be available in the most integrated setting appropriate for each individual. Persons with disabilities are encouraged to contact the park district at 630.231.9474 about special accommodations needed for the enjoyment of park district programs. Those who use the Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD) may reach the park district by calling 800.735.2962 If you have questions about west Chicago Park District’s commitment regarding the ADA policy or you believe you have been unfairly discriminated against by the Park District, please call us at 630.231.9474.
Warning of Risk Recreational activities are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental, and emotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning, and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity. Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. Depending on the activity, certain risks, dangers, and injuries can occur due to inclement weather, slips and falls, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsporstmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities. The West Chicago Park District is committed to conducting all recreation programs and activities in a safe manner. We continually strive to reduce such risks and insist that all participants follow safety rules and instructions. However, it is impossible for the West Chicago Park District to guarantee absolute safety.
Program Waiver and Requirements For insurance purposes, participation in West Chicago Park District programs requires a signed waiver. The waiver and Release form must be signed by the participant if 18 years of age or older; or by a parent/guardian if under the age of 18.
