Creatively, the moments that inspire me most originate from authentic experiences like meaningful relationships, being outside in nature, and working with others who share a passion for design. Born and raised in Hawai’i, the dramatic and ever changing natural elements I was exposed to have informed my design language, with an appreciation for natural materials and spaces that foster a relationship with the surrounding environment. Thinking about one of my favorite quotes, “how we spend our days is how we spend our lives” reminds me of my professional goal to be part of an empathetic team to design beautiful spaces that make people feel comfortable and connected to their communities and the surrounding environment.

ABOUT“ ME

PROJECT SCOPE

Food is a powerful element of our lives that reminds us of our relationship to our land, culture, and community. Inspired by the poetic connections between human existence and the natural environment that can be found in Japanese design, Onaga ( a small eternity) , a high-end Japanese restaurant located in the West End neighborhood of Washington, DC, creates an environment where a meal can transport guests through time and space, reminding us that true meaning lies in connection to others and the natural world.

ONAGA HOSPITALITY

CONCEPT MOOD BOARD

Japanese design philosophies of simplicity and ambiguity inform the organization of space and treatment of materials. Onaga establishes an immersive experience that suspends guests in time and place, shifting focus to the beauty of the present moment. Dining enclaves carved out of heavy, natural stone create an experience that insulates guests from the outside world and interior circulation. Materiality conveys the passage of time, with raw stone communicating “historic and geological memory” juxtaposed with aged wood, a reminder of impermanence.

MICRO-UNIT

A dining table and benches are in use for working and dining throughout the day, while the bed is converted into a sofa for lounging.

In densely populated cities, residents seek living spaces that are efficient and affordable. This project makes the most of a footprint of 270 square feet by preserving privacy while maximizing storage and flexibility.

RESIDENTIAL

PROJECT SCOPE + DRAWINGS

In the evenings, the TV is moved in front of the folded out bed, while the dining table and benches are put away.

A Murphy bed integrated into a storage wall creates space for working and entertaining while concealing personal items. A flex wall that runs the length of the unit features tracks where foldable furniture, a TV, and additional shelving can be configured to best serve the needs of the resident at any given time throughout the day. By day, the unit offers space to work, dine, and host while utilizing storage spaces to preserve privacy. By night, flexibility allows furniture to be folded and shifted aside to create space for sleeping, watching TV, and relaxing. [plans not to scale]

PROJECT SCOPE

Completed as an entry to the Steelcase NEXT Student Design Comptition, two floors of an office in Manhattan were designed to meet the goals of the client, NEXT Cosmetics, a fictional beauty company. The completed design reflects the company’s brand identity and values of diversity and wellness, along with their love of New York City all while meeting programming and company culture goals. selected as a studio finalist based on juror feedback]

NEXT COSMETICS WORKPLACE11

In Manhattan, diverse neighborhoods and walkable streets create a lack of barriers, which promotes freedom and connection between residents. In the Next Cosmetics office, flowing circulation and a lack of barriers encourage staff to move freely throughout the office, promoting collaboration, reducing the negative effects of hierarchy, and giving staff the autonomy to prioritize individual wellness.

The research-based design principle of Third Place Theory guided the design of spaces that accommodate varying work styles and staff needs while contributing to the client’s goals of a collaborative work environment that promotes wellness.

The axonometric drawing expresses the organization of space in which the heierarchy of a traditional office is dismantled. Private offices are moved from corner suites to the central space, providing sunlight and views to the open office while encouraging interaction, collaboration, and community building among all levels of staff.

SUPERGOOP RETAIL

Completed as an exploration of materiality, methods of model making, and construction of volumes, this project explored the connections between industrial design and interior architecture. Beginning by researching the work of designers Marc Newson and Lindsey Adelman, their forms and design elements were transformed into a series of abstract study models. To connect these forms to physical space and the realm of interior architecture, the models were translated into retail display elements for a Supergoop, a family oriented sun screen and skincare company with playful branding.

[project sponsored by Deltec, manufacturer of prefab round hurricane shelter homes, completed as a group project]

PROJECT SCOPE

User + Site Analysis N

On the remote southern coastline of Nantucket island sits a sanctuary for a family of four who reside in Providence, RI during the academic year. Directly facing the open Atlantic Ocean, the structure finds a balance between providing a summer getaway for long beach days while sheltering the family in a hurricane-resistant structure during the summer storms and potential hurricanes known to batter the eastern coastline.

DRAWINGS + CONCEPT

Spatial organization is influenced by the focus of the home as a secluded retreat from daily life, allowing the family to develop a relationship with both each other and the surrounding enviornment.

Communal spaces such as the living room and reading nook transition into a central kitchen that features an eatin dining booth and access to outdoor space. Hugging the interior of the home are two curved decks, creating a flow that reflects the interior curve, forming a gentle intersection within the kitchen.

As a physical embodiment of the love that a family shares, communal spaces balanced by semi-private nooks and flowing decks create a haven where the family feels both protected and accepted.

IL TRAGITTO HOSPITALITY

Inspired by the journey of the Three Wise Men across the desert following the Christmas Star, the hotel is organized around a linear path highlighting the double height corridor Influenced the by the Florentine culture of a daily routine, blurring the line between lobby, bar, and cafe allows guests to maintain a sense of independence while on traveling, while the sight lines between levels of the hotel maintain a sense of community for guests.

il tragitto hospitality 18
