A Theatre major develops performance, production and devising skills, including acting, directing, design and creating original works. Students receive a well-rounded working knowledge of the History of Theatre, Contemporary drama and new creation methods. Students marry classroom exercises with experiential learning by working on productions in a variety of areas, including acting, ensemble performance, stage management, stage, lighting and prop design and directing. Students work collaboratively and have significant responsibility in constructing each production, ranging from classical to contemporary to experimental productions.

Through performing and collaborating with peers in a university setting, you’ll become part of a close-knit community of people who are passionate about the performing arts. Acknowledging that there is intense competition, given the number of talented people vying for each job, graduates will learn to regularly assess personal opportunities and challenges, to develop a singular and unique artistic voice and learn strategies to build relationships and create networks that will carry them into the field.

In 2021, Limestone entered an agreement that will enable the Gaffney Little Theatre to utilize our theatre facility, produce its own shows and also collaborate with students and faculty who are a part of the University’s theatre program. “Limestone and the Gaffney Little Theatre have shared stages, productions, and tremendous contributions to the community over the last two decades. This venture will help both organizations to capitalize on resources and provide an even richer theatre arts presence for the Upstate of South Carolina.” Dr. Gena Poovey Department Chair of Visual & Performing Arts
