Special Regulations applying to the Cattle Section 1. ENTRIES - Exhibitors may make up to two entries per class. 2. STALLS - Exhibitors may book a maximum of ten stalls in any one breed and should note that separate stalls must be reserved for calves at foot, if required. Double stalls will be allocated to bulls of two years old or over. Each stall is 4ft wide. Exhibitors who inform the Show office by 1st June of stalls not required will receive a 50% refund on the stall booking fee. The DCAA reserves the right to reduce the number of stalls allocated to each exhibitor should circumstances require. Exhibitors are required to book stalls sufficient to accommodate all animals they intend to have forward at the Show. 3. STALL FEES - All fees include VAT @ 20%. In classes for pairs or groups the fee payable is per pair or group and not per animal. There is no entry fee for pair or group special classes or awards. 5. INTER BREED AWARDS - Where an animal qualifies for an Inter Breed Award it must be brought forward for the judging. Any animal not brought forward will forfeit any prize money it is eligible for. 6. HERD BOOK - All exhibits must either be entered or eligible for entry in the Herd Book or grading up register of their respective breeds. 7. CATTLE MOVEMENTS - Movements to and from the showground must be registered with BCMS. 8. PASSPORTS - Exhibitors must present the passports for all cattle attending the Show on arrival at the showground. No animal will be permitted on to the showground without a valid passport. 9. TB PRE MOVEMENT TESTING - All cattle coming to the Show, must have had a pre movement test with a negative result within 60 days of the commencement of the Show. If, after making entries, the herd loses its Brucellosis Accredited or TB status, entry fees will be refunded on application to the Devon County Show Manager. Applications must be received in writing no later than fourteen days after the first day of the Show and must be accompanied by a veterinary certificate or ministry order. 10. INFECTIOUS BOVINE RHINOTRACHEITIS (IBR/BHV 1) - Exhibitors must state on the entry form if their animals are of IBR status. These animals will be housed within the Cattle lines with the necessary stipulated distances from other cattle being respected.
11. QUALIFICATIONS - Where prizes are offered subject to qualifying yields of lactation or similar conditions a Certificate of Yield from the National Milk Records for the lactations concerned should be sent with the entry forms. Cows and heifers which have not calved before the Show, whether entered in milk or in calf, shall be judged along with the animals in calf, and cows and heifers which have calved before the Show - in whichever of the classes entered - shall be judged along with the animals in milk. 12. IN-CALF ANIMALS - A veterinary certificate of confirmed pregnancy by ultrasound or manual palpation (not milk progesterone) for animals entered in the Dry Cow classes must be available for inspection by the Chief Steward at the Show. 13. MILKING AT THE SHOW a. All milk yielded at the Show will be purchased by the DCAA at a rate per cow per day and payment will be made on the last day of the Show. No milk may be sold to any person other than the Association's appointed officer. b. All milking cows exhibited are to be milked in the dairy situated near the cattle lines, except at the discretion of the dairy stewards. Facilities will be available for machine milking. c. Machine milkers will not be required to provide their own equipment, if so doing, the units must be left in the dairy where they can be washed and sterilised. d. Facilities will be provided for rejection of foremilk, hand washing, udder washing and dipping clusters between milking each cow. All the milking machine units will be washed and sterilised by the dairy stewards. e. Milkers should wear some form of washable milking-coat. f. The times of milking will be 6.00am and 4.00pm unless otherwise arranged with the dairy stewards. g. The dairy stewards will arrange for the milk to be cooled in the milk reception room. h. Milk will be excluded from any cow which has been treated with antibiotics or other inhibitory substances (including orbeseal), is in poor health or has calved within four clear
days. i. Exhibitors must inform Dairy staff of any cow under treatment on arrival to the show and or during the show so that the milk can be discarded and full records kept. 14. WASHING OF COWS - Exhibitors are prohibited from washing dairy cows with shampoos that contain phenols. 15. BULLS AND OTHER UNRULY ANIMALS - No bull exceeding ten months will be admitted to the showground unless it has a clamp or ring in its nose and, if necessary, shall be led by a leading stick. Handlers of beef heifers should have with them bulldogs. Exhibitors must be satisfied in all cases, and at all times, that the correct and appropriate restraining method and equipment is provided for use by animal handlers and where appropriate heifers should be trained to accept "bulldogs" as a restraint. All cattle must be secured to the satisfaction of the stewards, who shall have the power to exclude from the showground any vicious or unruly animal. Bulls must be double tied in the lines and have two handlers when moving around the showground. All animals must be properly halter trained before they come to the Show. Stock attendants are responsible for their own cattle at all times.
