Nicole Stacey returns for her fifth season as the head coach of the Lincoln softball team in 2014. Last season, she became the third head coach in program history to guide the Blue Tigers to double digit victories in three consecutive seasons. In 2012, Stacey led the Blue Tigers to their first playoff berth since 2008 last season, leading Lincoln to 15 wins and the No. 8 seed in the MIAA Softball Championship tournament. The Blue Tigers got hot at the end of the 2012 campaign, winning three of their final four contests, including outscoring Southwest Baptist, 12-1, to secure the postseason berth. Under Stacey's leadership, the Blue Tigers have steadily improved from season to season. In her second season, she led Lincoln to a 16-win campaign, following a nine-victory season in 2010.

One of Lincoln's best pitchers over the past three years, Clair Lorenz begins her first season on the Blue Tiger coaching staff as an assistant for 2014. An All-MIAA honorable mention in 2011, Lorenz played for Lincoln for two years, totaling 281 strikeouts in 356.1 innings of work. In 2011, Lorenz led the Blue Tigers in nearly every pitching category, including ERA (3.15), wins (10), starts (23), appearances (33) and innings pitched (173.1). Lorenz threw four shutouts that season and ended her year with 125 strikeouts. As a junior in 2011, Lorenz also helped the Blue Tigers at the plate, hitting .244 with two doubles, a triple and a homerun. Lorenz had 22 hits that year and scored 11 runs with eight RBI.
Clair Lorenz Assistant Coach
After appearing in just six contests in 2012 due to injury, going 2-4 in the circle with 19 strikeouts, Lorenz was granted a medical redshirt by the NCAA, allowing her to come back in 2013 for a full senior season. Lorenz made the most of that opportunity, winning nine games in the circle while striking out 137 opposing batters. Lorenz pitched 14 complete games with two shutouts and gave up just 79 earned runs in 151.1 innings of work. Lorenz also gave the Blue Tigers a boost offensively, batting .242 with 24 hits. Lorenz tied for second on the team with 15 homeruns and ended her year with 15 RBI and 14 runs scored. Thanks in part to both her pitching and hitting skill, Lorenz was named to the AllSoutheastern Regional Invitational Tournament team at the start of the 2013 season. In some ways, this will be Lorenz' second stint on the LU coaching staff. During her medical redshirt season in 2012, Lorenz served as a player coach, traveling to most of Lincoln's away games and helping the Blue Tigers' pitching staff.

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY 2014 SOFTBALL MEDIA GUIDE
About the MIAA The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, a 14-member conference of NCAA Division II institutions in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska, was first organized in 1912 as the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Over the past 100 years, the MIAA has gained the reputation of being one of the top NCAA Division II conferences in the nation. MIAA student-athletes have won 15 NCAA team championships and, since 1964, more than 160 individual national titles. The MIAA currently conducts championships in 10 sports for men and nine for women. For the men, champions are crowned in football, soccer, cross country, basketball, wrestling, indoor and outdoor track & field, baseball, tennis and golf. The women compete for titles in volleyball, cross country, soccer, basketball, indoor and outdoor track & field, softball, golf and tennis.
Dr. Bob Boerigter Commissioner
The MIAA turned a new page on July 1, 1992, when the NCAA Division II conference changed its name from the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The decision to make the change originated in 1989, when Pittsburg State University and Washburn University became the first schools outside the state of Missouri to gain membership in the MIAA. The conference was first organized in 1912 with 14 member institutions. Of those original members, the University of Central Missouri, Truman State University, and Northwest Missouri State University still remain a part of the MIAA. The first change in membership came in 1924, when the MIAA reorganized to include only the five regional Missouri state colleges: Central, Truman (at the time known as Northeast Missouri State), Northwest, Southeast Missouri State University and Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State). Over the next 56 years, three schools joined the membership: the Missouri School of Mines (later the University of Missouri-Rolla) in 1935, Lincoln University in 1970, and the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1980.
Larry House Assistant Commissioner
The 1980s brought the biggest changes in the conference. In 1981, Southwest Missouri State University opted to move to NCAA Division I and the MIAA appointed its first full-time commissioner, Ken Jones, in July. He would be in the position for 16 years, retiring in 1997. Former Gulf South and Metro commissioner Ralph McFillen succeeded Jones, serving 10 years before his retirement in 2007. Jim Johnson succeeded McFillen in July of that year and served as commissioner until September of 2010. Dr. Bob Boerigter succeeded Johnson in September 2010. Southwest Baptist University brought membership back to eight schools in 1986, before the major expansion of the conference in 1989. Pittsburg State, Washburn, Missouri Southern State College (now University) and Missouri Western State College (now University), formerly members of the Central States Intercollegiate Conference, began competition in the 1989-90 season. Southeast Missouri State left the MIAA following the 1990-91 season to move on to NCAA Division I, and was replaced by Emporia State University in the 1991-92 season. On July 29, 2010, the MIAA CEO Council voted to extend invitations to the University of Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State University to become members of the league, and on September 24, 2010, it voted to extend invitations to the University of Nebraska-Kearney and Lindenwood University to become conference institutions, beginning in 2012-13. Truman State left the MIAA following that season, bringing the number of league institutions down to 14.

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY 2014 SOFTBALL MEDIA GUIDE
Lincoln University History of Lincoln University At the close of the Civil War, soldiers and officers of the 62nd United States Colored Infantry, stationed at Fort McIntosh, Texas, but composed primarily of Missourians, took steps to establish an educational institution in Jefferson City, Missouri, which they named Lincoln Institute. The following stipulations were set for the school: 1. The institution shall be designed for the special benefit of the freed African-Americans; 2. It shall be located in the state of Missouri; 3. Its fundamental idea shall be to combine study and labor. Members of the 62nd Colored Infantry contributed $5,000; this was supplemented by approximately $1,400, given by the 65th Colored Infantry. On January 14, 1866, Lincoln Institute was formally established under an organization committee. By June of the same year, it incorporated and the committee became a Board of Trustees. Richard Baxter Foster, a former first lieutenant in the 62nd Infantry, was named first principal of Lincoln Institute. On September 17, 1866, the school opened its doors to the first class in an old frame building in Jefferson City. In 1869, Lincoln Institute moved to the present campus, and in 1870 it began to receive aid from the state of Missouri for teacher training. College-level work was added to the curriculum in 1877, and passage of the Normal School Law permitted Lincoln graduates to teach for life in Missouri without further examination. Lincoln Institute formally became a state institution in 1879 with the deeding of the property to the state. Under the second Morrill Act of 1890, Lincoln became a land grant institution, and the following year industrial and agricultural courses were added to the curriculum. In 1921, the Missouri Legislature passed a bill introduced by Walthall M. Moore, the first black American to serve in that body, which changed the name from Lincoln Institute to Lincoln University and created a Board of Curators to govern the University. The North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools accredited the high school division in 1925, the teacher-training program in 1926, and the four-year college of arts and sciences in 1934. Graduate instruction was begun in the summer session of 1940, with majors in education and history and minors in English, history, and sociology. A School of Journalism was established in February 1942. In 1954, the United States Supreme Court handed down its ruling in Brown v. Board of Education, and Lincoln University responded by opening its doors to all applicably meeting its entrance criteria. Today, Lincoln University serves a diverse clientele, both residential and non-residential, engages in a variety of research projects, and offers numerous public service programs in addition to providing an array of academic programs.
