Jason Gym, Home of the Blue Tigers Jason Hall was originally built in 1958. Over the years, an addition was made to the front of the building, along with several other minor renovations. The first phase of the Jason Hall renovation took place with an installation of a new HVAC system, a new basketball court and bleacher system. In 2008, the second phase addressed safety issues within the building, such as updating the sprinkler system. The Physical Education department received a new office complex, complete with private offices and a conference room. New audio/visual equipment was also installed in the PE classrooms. The coaches' offices were also renovated to allow for more privacy. The locker rooms were completely redone and a new weight room with state-of-the-art equipment was constructed. The restrooms, ticket booth and concessions area were also remodeled. Finally, a new Daktronics scoreboard was installed in the gym to allow fans the chance to see up to the second player points and other stats.

Ayana McWilliams was named on May 2, 2016 as the next head women’s basketball coach at Lincoln University. “We were looking for an individual that could recruit a mixture of talent; would have a terrific work ethic, discipline and high character; as well as display passion for the opportunity to build a successful program here at Lincoln University,” said John Moseley, Lincoln University Director of Athletics. “We found all of that, and more, in Ayana McWilliams. After speaking with coaches that she had worked with in the past, it was clear that her experiences in Division I and Division II had prepared her to become a head coach. Her recruiting resume is impressive at both the D1 and D2 levels, and the success of the teams that she worked with has been tremendous.”

This past season, McWilliams helped lead the Spartans to a program-record 22 victories as well as a berth in the Women’s Basketball Invitational tournament, USC Upstate’s second postseason trip in the past three years. The Spartans won their first postseason game as a Division I team this spring and advanced all the way to the WBI semifinals. As a member of USC Upstate’s coaching staff, McWilliams helped the Spartans lead the Atlantic Sun Conference in eight statistics, including scoring, rebounding and field goals made. USC Upstate also finished second in the league in steals and third in both blocks and assists.

“I appreciate all the support that I’ve had to get to this point,” McWilliams said. “I’d like to thank (Lincoln University president) Dr. Rome for this opportunity, and for trusting me to help carry on the vision of this college. I’m extremely excited about being a part of the Lincoln University family and even more excited about its future.” Before joining the Spartans, McWilliams spent two years as an assistant coach at Elizabeth City, where she helped turn a team picked last in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s preseason poll finish second and advance to the semifinals of the conference tournament. McWilliams helped the Vikings win the CIAA Northern Division title in 2010-11. McWilliams, who has also coached at Livingstone and Winston-Salem State, has developed 10 players into all-conference honorees. That includes Tee’Ara Copney, USC Upstate’s all-time leading scorer (1,635 points), and Brittany Starling, the first player in USC Upstate history to record 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. McWilliams played two seasons at East Carolina before transferring to Brevard College, where she is the program’s all-time leader in assists (296) and steals (288). McWilliams averaged 16.5 points, the second-most in school history, and was a two-time all-league honoree. McWilliams graduated from Brevard in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and received a master’s degree in sports management and sports coaching from the United States Sports Academy in 2011.

Kiki Glass has joined the Lincoln women’s basketball team as an assistant coach. Glass spent five seasons as an assistant coach at USC Upstate, helping to recruit nine players for the Spartans’ first season at the NCAA Division I level in 2007-08. Glass worked primarily with the guards and developed several players who helped quickly turn USC Upstate into a winning program, including Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year Tee’Ara Copney and Atlantic Sun scoring champion Courtney Hawkins. Her work as both a coach and a recruiter helped the Spartans increase their win total each season, from five wins in its first year as a DI program to 20 in 2009-10. Following the 2009-10 season, Glass left USC Upstate to coach with her mentor, Kathy Washington, at basketball programs at Therrell High and Grady High in Atlanta, Ga. Glass helped manage all aspects of both programs until Washington retired earlier this spring.

John Moseley was elevated to the position of Director of Athletics in April of 2016. Moseley had previously spent the 2015-16 season as Lincoln’s Interim Director of Athletics. During that time, Moseley helped lead the Blue Tigers by strengthening partnerships in the Jefferson City community and assisting in the creation of the Blue Tiger Athletics Club, the main fundraising arm of Lincoln athletics. In the fall of 2015, 127 LU student-athletes were named to the Dean’s List, with 19 earning perfect 4.0 grade point averages. Moseley brings 10 years of NCAA Division I experience with him to Lincoln. A 1998 graduate of East Carolina University, Moseley returned to his alma mater in 2008 to serve as the program’s Director of Basketball Operations. In 2009, Moseley was promoted to assistant basketball coach, serving as the recruiting organizers. In both of his years with the Pirates, ECU posted double digit wins.

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY 2016-17 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL MEDIA GUIDE

Since 2003, few teams in any sport have achieved the level of success enjoyed by the Lincoln women’s track & field team. The Blue Tigers continued the dynasty in March of 2016, when Lincoln won the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field national title. Winners of 12 total national championships over the past 13 years, including five-straight NCAA Division II outdoor titles from 2003-2007, the Blue Tiger track & field program was honored in 2013 by being inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. Lincoln has established itself as one of the top track & field programs in all of NCAA Division II, with the men's team also taking third at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships. Both the LU men and women won MIAA championships in indoor track & Field in 2016, and the Blue Tigers have combined to turn in over 700 DII All-American performances since head coach Victor Thomas took over in 2002-03. The Lincoln men's golf team has also experienced the feeling of winning a championship recently, as the Blue Tigers have won seven PGA Minority Collegiate National Championship Division II tournaments. An annual golf tournament sponsored by the PGA and open to all HBCU men's golf programs, Lincoln posted wire-to-wire victories at the championship in 2013 and 2014. In 2015, Blake Lammers continued the tradition by becoming the individual champion at the PGA Minority Collegiate Championship. Last year, Lammers also was the individual titleist at the MIAA Championships and became the first Blue Tiger to qualify for the NCAA region since current coach Aaron Murphy accomplished the feat in 2009. Over the past five years, 10 of Lincoln's 12 athletic programs have qualified for some form of postseason competition. In 2011-12, the LU women's basketball team came within eight points of playing in the MIAA tournament championship game. In 2013, Twishana Williams became the only female runner in the MIAA to earn All-American honors. Last season, the LU men's basketball team enjoyed a 12-2 record at home en route to a berth in the MIAA quarterfinals while Sedeekie Edie broke the NCAA Division II championship record in the indoor long jump to claim the national title.

The women's track & field team won its 12th national championship in 2016.

Blake Lammers won the PGA Minority Collegiate Championship in 2015 and the MIAA title in 2016.

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY 2016-17 WOMEN'S BAKSETBALL MEDIA GUIDE

History of Lincoln University At the close of the Civil War, soldiers and officers of the 62nd United States Colored Infantry, stationed at Fort McIntosh, Texas, but composed primarily of Missourians, took steps to establish an educational institution in Jefferson City, Missouri, which they named Lincoln Institute. The following stipulations were set for the school: 1. The institution shall be designed for the special benefit of the freed African-Americans; 2. It shall be located in the state of Missouri; 3. Its fundamental idea shall be to combine study and labor. Members of the 62nd Colored Infantry contributed $5,000; this was supplemented by approximately $1,400, given by the 65th Colored Infantry. On January 14, 1866, Lincoln Institute was formally established under an organization committee. By June of the same year, it incorporated and the committee became a Board of Trustees. Richard Baxter Foster, a former first lieutenant in the 62nd Infantry, was named first principal of Lincoln Institute. On September 17, 1866, the school opened its doors to the first class in an old frame building in Jefferson City. In 1869, Lincoln Institute moved to the present campus, and in 1870 it began to receive aid from the state of Missouri for teacher training. College-level work was added to the curriculum in 1877, and passage of the Normal School Law permitted Lincoln graduates to teach for life in Missouri without further examination. Lincoln Institute formally became a state institution in 1879 with the deeding of the property to the state. Under the second Morrill Act of 1890, Lincoln became a land grant institution, and the following year industrial and agricultural courses were added to the curriculum. In 1921, the Missouri Legislature passed a bill introduced by Walthall M. Moore, the first black American to serve in that body, which changed the name from Lincoln Institute to Lincoln University and created a Board of Curators to govern the University. The North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools accredited the high school division in 1925, the teacher-training program in 1926, and the four-year college of arts and sciences in 1934. Graduate instruction was begun in the summer session of 1940, with majors in education and history and minors in English, history, and sociology. A School of Journalism was established in February 1942. In 1954, the United States Supreme Court handed down its ruling in Brown v. Board of Education, and Lincoln University responded by opening its doors to all applicably meeting its entrance criteria. Today, Lincoln University serves a diverse clientele, both residential and non-residential, engages in a variety of research projects, and offers numerous public service programs in addition to providing an array of academic programs.
