T

radition is a big part of our culture in our Sims-Grupe Management office that carries on to our wonderful 90 plus tenants that have been with us for anywhere from one to 68 years. After recently spending two days at the happiest place on earth with my 16-month-old grandson Brayden, I couldn’t help but notice how the Disney company, after 90 years in business this year, has so much tradition as well. Such as walking down Main Street or visiting some of the main attractions we all know and love. The experience never disappoints to bring you back to your own first childhood visit — making memories that truly last a lifetime.   However, if you are going to be around as long as Disney or Lincoln Center—change is inevitable and is mandatory to stay relevant. The decisions to progress forward are not always easy, it is easy to keep with what works, but this will not always take you where your customers and future tenants want to be. Continuing the tradition but evolving with what Phil Johnson your clients are currently looking for was and is the magical touch of Walt Disney. I never thought to compare our Center with Disneyland, but we do have many similarities, such as clean sidewalks, traditional storefronts, friendly staff and security, fresh flowers and planting’s and lastly wonderful tenants offering exceptional service. We strive to continue along the same path of reinventing ourselves to give the San Joaquin County residents and visitors a little magic you can’t find anywhere else.    In this month’s edition we are proud to announce the coming this summer of four new tenants to Lincoln Center; Orangetheory Fitness, Shine Yoga + Barre + Spin, POMP Suites, and Sandos Sandwiches. Also, look for the expansion of Kym with a Y and her new studio being renamed to Elevate Spa. Kym Thompson will open in late April next door to C.R. Porter Home Collections and offer massage, facials, micro blading, and a new large selection of facial and beauty products. Kym has been in business with us for 13 years, please stop in and see her new store.    Look for some exciting new features in the center. We are updating our children’s play area and making the experience more interactive for your little ones. We are also adding two new sun shades in our Atrium and Professional building keeping with the sun shades in our Brickwalk area. Just east of our Starbucks you will soon have more options for seating as we add a bar height sitting area with power outlets for our fluid home office workers to connect to our free wi-fi. Also, stop and stroll through the expanded Silveria’s Floral & Gifts shop’s new outdoor patio area for your spring and summer planting’s.    This month’s cover and featured story brings a little more tradition back to our community. Do you remember reading in your local newspaper the latest couples’ engagements in the area? We are featuring six couples who were recently engaged and tell you a little about all of them. On the cover this month are three of the engaged ladies dressed in the hottest spring fashions offered by a few of our retailers.    The warm weather is also upon us, launching our event line up for the season. The first Sidewalk Sale on May 4 will bring great fashion finds, home decor and plenty more for you and the entire family. Next up is the Wine Stroll on June 21, along with new dueling pianos on July 19. August 16 we will be hosting the Take 2 cover band and other musical entertainment, in addition to the fun slide and Midgley’s Public Truck — more details to come! As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and we will be saying goodbye to the Car Show this year. We want to thank all of our past car show participants and volunteers for many years of this wonderful event. Thank you again to our customers who support our Lincoln Center community, and without you, like Disney, there would be no tradition. Sincerely,

Times and conditions change so rapidly that we must keep our aim constantly focused on the future. –Walt Disney

eddings are such a beautiful time. For most newly engaged, it can be extremely overwhelming. There are so many decisions to make, and depending on when and where you’re getting married, you don’t have time to hesitate. In the midst of making those decisions — que the questions from family, coworkers and friends: Have you set a date? Where are you getting married? Do you have a dress yet? Who’s your caterer? Phew! Some are lucky enough to have Mothers and Tami Matthews, Fathers who support them emotionally, physically and maybe even financially. And some even have dressed in Flair Mothers or Mother-in-laws that are available for planning help. There’s nothing like an extra set of Boutique with hands and eyes on the details of putting together your most dreamed perfect day! daughter Alex on    For Mothers—of the bride or groom—this can also be an overwhelming time. Your family, coworkers her wedding day and friends are asking the same questions your daughter or future daughters-in-law are getting — last October we’re sure. You may not be able to control those questions, or your future daughter-in-law, but the one thing you can control is what you’re going to wear!    Starr Donati, of Flair Boutique, has dressed multiple mothers of the bride and groom throughout the years. A tailored process, which starts with your idea of what you want to wear to your son or daughter’s big day. Starr helps you narrow down colors, textures, length — from head to toe. Do you want to wear a head piece? What shoes will you pair with it? Is your event black tie? Starr says her favorite part of helping these mother’s is “seeing them feel so good, is so gratifying.” She has even accomplished ordering, purchasing and shipping a dress in under a week — shipping across the country for that matter, with her client’s dress waiting in her Virginia hotel room. The customer service at Flair Boutique is always above and beyond.    Tami Matthews, pictured here, has been a Flair Boutique shopper for many years. She boasted of Starr and Flair Boutique that when she went into the store, she had no clue what she wanted to wear to her daughters October 2018 wedding. Starr helped her pull together a vision of how she wanted to look that night and executed flawlessly. Tami felt beyond O R G A N I C S PA & WA X I N G S T U D I O comfortable at Flair Boutique, which even provided in-house alterations on her dress, as well as working with the vendor on getting a smaller size sent back to the store! Starr picked out her jewelry and made the entire process stress-free. Tami said she of course had a million other things to think about during that time, and Starr made getting the perfect dress “smooth, non-forceful, and always with a smile. She just cared about me and wanted me to look my best.”    So, whether you need a dress for your own child’s wedding this year, or you’re on the guest list — be sure to stop into Flair Boutique to let them work their magic!

The 2019 Family Day is moving to a new location - Weber Point Event Center - Saturday, September 21. Another event that is large in scope is the Ironstone Concours d’Elegance benefiting 4H and FFA. Led by John, Gail and Stephen Kautz, it is held on the beautiful grounds of Ironstone Vineyards in Murphy’s. This year we anticipate more than 400 vehicles and 5,000 people. Join us Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28. It’s worth the drive up the hill!

Your Friends of the Library BY ARIEL ARMANINO

Melchor Sahagun III, Shannon Spohn, and Jeff Manta

B

oth a literature lover’s dream and incredible non-profit organization, Friends of the Stockton Public Library is a local gem that is chalked full of great reads and loads of heart. The used bookstore is nestled in the heart of North Stockton at Parkwoods Shopping Center and was initially created to help raise funds for the building of the Caesar Chavez Library. It has since, however, turned into a freestanding, non-profit entity that gives back to the community in more ways than one.   All proceeds from the bookstore go toward funding the many community programs that the Stockton library provides at what will soon be 15 different locations. These programs include

everything from after school events, to lectures, classes, and a multitude of other extra-curricular activities. According to manager Shannon Spohn, the store also does what it can to help other community partners, such as donating books to St. Mary’s Dining Hall and other organizations that may be in need. But the contributions of Friends of the Stockton Public Library span far beyond donations. “The store itself is such an asset to the community because it’s very affordable books, well organized, and has a knowledgeable staff,” said volunteer Sara Russell.    Alongside the bookstore’s three-person staff, a slew of over 50 community members volunteer each week to keep the store running. Additionally, it is community donations that make up the majority of the store’s inventory.   “We rely entirely on donations,” said Shannon. “Ninety percent of our books I’d say are from donations from the Stockton community, and many people that come in and buy books bring them back in for donation. It’s very sustainable.”   With a steady stream of generous

donations coming in, Friends of the Stockton Public Library is the largest and most diverse used bookstore in the area. They also have unbeatable prices.    “We have extremely low prices and we do that to make it more inclusive,” said Shannon. “We want it to be a good community reference, a resource for people to be able to come and buy books on a fixed budget, or for their classroom, their children. We want to include everyone.”   Truly the perfect stop for students, parents, teachers, and bookworms on a budget, the aptly named bookstore is not only a friend to the local libraries, but the Stockton community as a whole.
