LINCOLN CENTER CHRONICLE 374 Lincoln Center Stockton, CA 95207

t’s been such a FUN summer around here at Lincoln Center.

The sidewalks are bustling with activity. Outdoor patios at our restaurants are being enjoyed day and night. The shop owners are busy swapping out summer merchandise for new fall product. Customers are excitedly checking out the many new businesses that have recently opened.

Going into this summer with the county’s road widening project on Benjamin Holt, we weren’t quite sure what to expect. Actually, we were pretty nervous. Looming questions such as: Will people still come to the Center? Will our customers brave the traffic?

We’ve been pleasantly surprised that activity at Lincoln Center hasn’t skipped a beat. And that’s all thanks to you and your support of our 90 plus businesses. With more than 80% of Lincoln Center businesses being locally owned and operated “mom and pop shops”, the community’s support has been amazing. YOUR support has made a big difference, and our merchants are so appreciative. We’re happy to announce the county’s roadwork is almost complete. Hopefully just a couple more weeks and we’ll all be cruising down a new and improved Benjamin Holt Drive! In fact, why don’t you come check it out at our August Lincoln Center LIVE!, which, by the way, will be your last opportunity to attend a LIVE! event this summer. It’s the oh-so-popular Classic Car Show, featuring more than 200 classic cars, four different live music groups, food, shopping and lots of fun! The KitchenSide Back to School Julie Van Noate of Best Wishes

W

hen Janelle reminded me that it was time to write my KitchenSide article for the Back to School issue I thought, “Wow! September already?” Nope, August! Even though my kids went back to school in August I still have vivid memories of them actually starting school in the “fall” after Labor Day. Soup in a thermos for lunch came a lot sooner for me than it ever did for my kids! My kids’ lunches were pretty simple but they always knew I would carry on the tradition my mother-in-law started. If there was a sandwich involved, there would be a bite gone. Just a small nibble off the corner to remind them of who made that sandwich and that I was thinking of them. My husband hated it; my kids expected it!

Facebook Contest: Post your back to school lunch ideas on the Best Wishes Facebook Page for a chance to win a KitchenSide gift card!

Coming up with something of interest other than a sandwich was always fun! My daughter Holland was a picky eater and I was constantly looking for something different. String cheese and turkey roll-ups, sliced apples tossed in lemon with peanut butter, sliced ham spread with cream cheese wrapped around a dill pickle, deviled eggs, PB&J cut into shapes, peanut butter between two saltine crackers. Any other lunch ideas? Let’s pass them on! Post them to the Best Wishes Facebook page and I’ll share them! When you post your back to school lunch ideas, you’ll be entered to win a Best Wishes KitchenSide gift card! And while you’re there, be sure to “LIKE” our page! n

uch loved entrepreneur and fashionista Erica West, owner of Theadora, is retiring from the boutique business. After owning and operating the clothing boutique for four years, Erica is ready to spend more time with her son Brady. Theadora actually originated as a lingerie store in a space just a fraction of its current size, and Erica expanded the business three years ago. With a love for fashion and keen eye for trends, Erica describes selling the shop as quite bittersweet. Erica is happy Theadora will now be in the hands of Stockton resident Jackie Kromm. An experienced retailer, Jackie and her family moved to Stockton a year ago when her husband Rich took the position as GM of hockey operations and coach of the Stockton Thunder. Rich and Jackie were thrilled at the opportunity to move to San Joaquin County and Jackie excitedly went in search of her own way to be part of our wonderful community. Owning Theadora is a great fit, as Jackie previously owned a boutique carrying lingerie and bras, specializing in expert bra fittings. The business will serve as a unique way for Jackie to immerse herself in the community and connect with new neighbors and friends.

Stop into Theadora to meet Jackie and receive special “Theadora Thursday” discounts! Jackie Kromm and Erica West

Jackie will officially take over the store on August 4, bringing great energy and excitement to the shop. She will keep many of the current clothing lines and expand its lingerie and bra offerings. “I’m just excited to get in the store and help people find exactly what they need. I’m looking forward to meeting existing customers and those new to Theadora. I love getting to know people and want to help make my customers’ shopping experience a truly great one,” says Jackie. Carrying on with the store’s existing Theadora Thursday promotions, you can stop in on Thursday, August 14 to meet Jackie and take advantage of special offers and discounts! n

Healthy Living with Dignity Health Tell Foot Pain to Take a Hike Matthew J. Takeuchi, Doctor of Podiatric Medicine Ever wondered about that large bump on the side of your big toe? It’s probably a bunion! Many people suffer from the pain of this common foot deformity for years before seeking treatment. The visible bump of a bunion reflects changes in the bony alignment of your foot. Bunions are a progressive disorder, meaning that the characteristic bump generally becomes increasingly more prominent and painful over time. Symptoms that occur at the site of the bunion may include pain, soreness, inflammation, redness, burning sensation, numbness and/or trouble fitting shoes. A foot and ankle specialist can easily diagnose a bunion by performing a physical examination and by obtaining an x-ray of the foot to determine the degree of the deformity. Treatment ranges from simply changing footwear to modifying activities, anti-inflammatory medication, injections, padding, and foot orthotics (arch supports). If these treatments fail to relieve bunion pain adequately, then bunion-correcting surgery (“bunionectomy”) may be required to correct the deformity and provide pain relief. Outpatient bunion surgery offers high patient satisfaction and low risk of complications, with most bunion operations allowing you to walk right away. So, if you are one of the many people living with bunions, don’t live with unnecessary pain. Tell your foot pain to take a hike and see a foot and ankle specialist.
