ail art has taken a turn for the glam over the past five years. And we’re not talking about the little flowers with a rhinestone in the middle you used to get on your big toes when your mom took you to get a pedicure in middle school, or the already designed press-on nail polish. We’re talking pure glitz that turns your fingertips into fine art. And the best part? You can find this big trend right here in Lincoln Center. Meet embellished gem nails, also referred to as Swarovski Crystal nails. Over the past three years this new trend has completely changed the nail industry. Matta Nguyen, owner of Lacquer, located in the atrium at Lincoln Center, says this trend began in Los Angeles, and as most things in a big city, caught on quickly. Matta gives Swarovski Crystals all the credit for being behind the boom of the trend, gaining more and more popularity year over year. Celebrities like Beyoncé and Madonna can be seen on the Red Carpet wearing these glamorous nail looks. This year, Matta says “the bigger, the better!” The crystals range in price depending on the size of the crystals and how many fingers you choose to have them applied to. They can last up to 4 weeks with proper care. Matta does a great job of showcasing the nails that go in and out of her salon via Instagram. She’s constantly showing off her work, allowing for any curious customer (possibly like yourself) to see what Lacquer has to offer. Since this is the bridal issue, we couldn’t help but ask what’s going to be big for brides in 2016. Matta assures that classic french will always be in style, but as expected, she’s stepping out of the box and is suggesting a new pink and white ombre nail - a simple, but subtle refresh of a traditional bridal nail. However, she does note that she doesn’t like to go too far out of the norm for a bride, because who wants to distract from that ring?

Another trend that’s going to be big in 2016, according to Matta; matte nails. But, her favorite overall? The embellished gem nails. After all, diamonds of any size, shape or form, are a girl’s best friend. Follow Lacquer on Instagram at @lacquer209.

The Best is C

ongratulations to Debbie Morris, longtime Lincoln Center event coordinator and face of the marketing office, on her retirement. Lincoln Center has been an influential part of Debbie’s entire life! Growing up, her father owned Lincoln Sporting Goods here in the Center where she and her two older brothers would daily join their parent’s at the store. In high school, she worked in the Center at both Girl Talk and Clothes-N-Stuff. She realized early on that she wanted to own her own dress shop prompting her to open Six Boutique at the Stockton Hilton in 1979. In 1986 she moved the store into Lincoln Center. When Debbie had the opportunity to work with the Lincoln Center Marketing Team in 2003, it was an easy decision. Debbie was the coordinator behind every Lincoln Center event. She made sure each and every one went off without a hitch. The Center was decorated beautifully every year at the holidays with the help of Debbie’s decorative eye. Every Lincoln Center gift card that left the Marketing Office was adorned with one of her gorgeous bows that no one could seem to replicate. We wish her all the best in her retirement. She will truly be missed. Debbie Morris

In her retirement Debbie looks forward to spending time with her husband, Tom, and two children, n Andrea and Mike.

Katie & Tito Bertilacchi by: Caitlin Hamer

N

ewlyweds Katie and Tito Bertilacchi, pictured on the cover of this issue, didn’t have to look far for quality businesses when they began planning their wedding. “Having grown up in Stockton, Lincoln Center has always been a big part of life here,” said Katie, which is why she and Tito chose to use several of Lincoln Center’s merchants in planning their big day. Having known each other since their days at St. Mary’s High School, Katie and Tito kept in touch through their group of mutual friends, but it wasn’t until 2013 that they finally began dating. In March of 2015, on a vacation to Mexico with Katie’s family for her 30th birthday, Tito popped the question on a beach in Cabo. While Katie said, “We were happy to support local businesses,” she also emphasized how much more of a personalized experience she had shopping at Lincoln Center: “You can’t get that kind of service at a bigger department store.” When you’re in the middle of putting together such a big event, working with local, friendly businesses run by people who are willing to dedicate their time can really lighten the load. Katie purchased Tito’s ring at DeVon’s Jewelers, and it was at Bliss Bridal Salon that Katie found the dress of her dreams — as well as a dress for her mother, her flower girl, and her bridesmaids. For gifts, the couple registered at both Lino Bella and Best Wishes. They were also able to order their shower and wedding invitations at Best Wishes, as well as their wedding place cards. All of the flowers for their wedding were purchased from Silveria’s Flowers and Gifts.

On November 28, 2015 Katie and Tito were married at the River Mill. The couple is residing in Stockton with Tito’s 7 year old daughter, along with a horse and two goats. They plan to return to Cabo n for their honeymoon.

MerchantNEWS Forty years ago Cynthia Coppetti and her mother June opened Coppetti’s Boutique in Lincoln Center. An artist and creative designer of fashion, interiors and boutique items Cindi was sought out by those seeking unique, stylish, and custom designs. Her creativity and passion for high-end fashion was satisfied through trips to market in Los Angeles, New York and Las Vegas, with Paris being her most anticipated buying trip. A world traveler, she searched for haute couture items for the boutique in every country she visited. She received great joy shopping specifically for her customers. Her handmade, custom artisan crafts were favorite gift items, and the boutique continues to display her unique, and oftentimes, eclectic handiwork.

Cynthia J. Coppetti

Cindi was also a passionate animal lover. Animals were always welcome at Cindi’s home where she cared for birds, cats and dogs. Cynthia J. Coppetti, after a brief illness, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015. Cynthia was born in Oakdale and attended Modesto schools. She is survived by her mother L. June Coppetti; brothers Tim Coppetti and Ron Coppetti. She is preceded in death by her father James J. Coppetti. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in Cynthia’s name to Pets & Pals, 12488 Harlan Road, Lathrop, CA 95330.

Time for a Diet Makeover Nutrition is the Key to a Healthy Life

If you’re like most people, losing weight and improving your health are near the top of your list of resolutions for 2016. If you’ve already fallen off the wagon on your healthy living resolutions, perhaps it’s time for a diet makeover. Your diet plays a huge role in the prevention and treatment of many diseases, so it’s important to eat right. The key to proper nutrition is to eat the diet that’s right for you and to adopt healthy habits that you can sustain. A dietitian, or a nutrition counselor, can help you translate the science of nutrition into practical solutions that fit into your lifestyle. If it’s time to give your diet a makeover, a dietitian can help you develop a meal plan and guidelines for eating out, all tailored to help meet your health needs, including managing your weight, blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol. If your doctor has told you that you need to change your diet, ask for a referral to meet with a dietitian, as many insurance plans will cover this cost. You can also call St. Joseph’s Nutrition Counseling Services directly at 209.461.5268 to learn more about incorporating healthy eating into your lifestyle, once and for all.
