LINCOLN CENTER CHRONICLE

his summer come out to shop, and meet the new era of business owners in Lincoln Center – the new risk takers and young entrepreneurs who believe in our community. Over the years Lincoln Center has been a hot-spot for establishing long-term dreams of young people seeking fresh opportunities. I’m not sure if Mr. Grupe and Mr. Sims, when they sought to develop Lincoln Village, ever realized the impact this shopping center “way out north” would have on the youth of our community. Over 65 years ago they built and developed Lincoln Village – a little mecca now in the heart of Stockton and the start for many seeking to realize their own American Dream of becoming a business owner.

We all know trends and habits change when running a shopping center, yet it’s the people behind each counter – in each store – that are the lifeblood of our community. That does not change, only time does. Meet many of the young business owners at Lincoln Center: The Pijl sisters, Brady Davis, Michael Midgley, Nick DiArenzo, Wes Williams, Blair Unterseher, Adam Pijl, Ben Mackie, Angela Karp, Matta Nguyen and more! Who will be the next 40+ year business in Lincoln Center to join Flair Boutique, Cavagnaro’s Shoe Repair, Podesto’s Market, Dennis Shea Shoes, Anna’s Alterations and Village Barber, to name a few. Who will be the next Mariani sisters success story? In their early twenties, Lisa and Deanne took a chance to open up Fina in the 1980’s and to this day continue to provide high fashion to their clientele. There’s a good chance we will see more hard working merchants starting up their dream and becoming another staple in our Lincoln Center family. The next time you stroll the covered walkways of Lincoln Center and shop our businesses, know you are supporting the dreams of our communities youth. The dreams that our forefathers planned for in 1776 and that have made our country great. The dreams of independence and not relying on anyone to provide for their future. God Bless our great country and you on this Fourth of July season of celebration! Phil Johnson, President

ummer is in full swing, and for many people it’s time to haul out the sports gear for those long vacation days. If you’re in need of some more equipment, or you’re looking to sell or trade in what you already have, then Play It Again Sports is just the shop for you. Opened in 1999, Play It Again Sports has been a Stockton favorite for all athletically inclined folks. Those who are looking to try their hand at a new sport should know that this is the best place to learn about what they’ll need. “We’re very knowledgeable about what we sell,” promises Blair Unterseher, who took over the store in July of 2014 with his parents, Gary and Brenda. “Our team is very hands-on with all the products we sell,” he added, ensuring that employees will be better prepared to answer questions that customers may have.

New and gently used gear for any sport that is offered at Stockton’s high schools can be found in this shop as well. If you’re looking for home exercise equipment, you can find treadmills here too! And because they really do want to make this a one stop shop, they are now even offering custom uniform and apparel services. But, one of the services that people love most is being able to sell and trade in quality used equipment. Some of the most in-demand things that people are buying and selling are weights and other fitness equipment, including golf gear. Equipment for water and snow sports is also very popular, given Stockton’s access to the Delta, the

Protect Your Skin: Summer Sun Safety Tips

ting Star ! Now

by Charlene Smith, RRT While you’re out enjoying some fun in the sun this summer, be sure to protect your skin. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the US, with most skin cancers resulting from too much exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Use these simple steps to help keep your skin safe this summer: Stay in the shade between 10 a.m. & 4 p.m. • The sun’s rays are the strongest from midmorning to late afternoon. Try to stay out of the sun during these hours. Use sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher. • Put sunscreen on 30 minutes before you go outside and be sure to use enough. • Don’t forget to apply it to your lips, ears, hands, feet, and the back of your neck. • Put on more sunscreen every 2 hours and after you swim or sweat.

Charlene Smith is the Director of St. Joseph’s Cancer Institute. St. Joseph’s Cancer Institute provides a full range of cancer treatment and support services. To learn more, please visit StJosephsCares.org/ Cancer or call 209.939.4526.

Cover up and wear sunglasses. • Wear a long-sleeved shirt, pants, and a hat with a wide brim for added sun protection. If you have a suspicious mole or spot on your skin, be sure to see your doctor and have it checked out.

FALL 2016 • NEW LARGER LOCATION 304 Lincoln Center – Former Bliss Bridal location Once again, Code 3 Wear has outgrown its current space in Lincoln Center North and will be moving to a larger location in the Atrium next to The B Hive Hair Salon. The new location will give Code 3 Wear about 2,800 square feet of much needed space.

Oh, It’s Summer Time. Little League Games, backyard BBQ’s and picnics in the park! Wonderful gatherings, coupled with lots of yummy food, means soda cans and water bottles going into the trash. Keep a trash bag handy so all of those recyclable materials can be gathered. And at the end of the day, drop them off at the recycling center, add to your curbside recycling, or better yet, give to the neighborhood little league team to cash in for their “Championship Game” party! It’s easy. Recycle.

TIME AND ATTENTION. How long does it take to sweep someone off their feet? That time may vary, but we take 80 hours to create the breathtaking brilliance of one of our rings. Here every diamond is calibrated to 1/100th of a millimeter to ensure a setting’s precision. Every master jeweler has over 10 years of experience, with knowledge that gets handed down from generation to generation. The result is an object of rare beauty and craftsmanship with the power to wow. And to woo.
