For the past 13 years, owner and board licensed optician, Lynda Winter, has provided Lincoln Center with her unique style - in the design of her store, eyewear display, window layout, and of course, her extensive inventory. This lifelong affair with eyewear started at 18 years of age, when Lynda was placed at an optical job by an employment agency. Working for three different optometrists nurtured Lynda’s passion and helped hone her skill in the field. In 1990, Lynda leveraged her experience and opened her own business, Great Spectacles. From the moment the doors opened, Great Spectacles thrived, and continues to enjoy numerous referrals from happy customers all over northern California. The perfect complement to the fabulous eyewear is Lynda and her phenomenal staff. Always helpful and well-trained, the staff is an invaluable asset when it comes to selecting the perfect eyewear for your prescription, face shape, and personal style. Not surprising, staff

o you know any successful fashion magazine publishers, or fashion stylists or fashion designers in New York or Milan? You just might, if they went through Delta College’s Fashion Program. The Program boasts some impressive successes: Riley John-Donnell was the publisher and co-owner of Surface Magazine and is now with N.I.C.E. Collective (a successful men’s wear brand based in San Francisco). Billy Hutchinson is a manager at Gump’s (a retailer of fine luxury) and has his own line of stationary and porcelain tabletop. Ceazar Cabreros and Mark Eric Rodriguez are both successful designers in New York. Ceazar is designing for Bibhu Mohapatra and his dress for the recent NY Fashion Week was listed as one of the prettiest dresses on the runway, and Mark designs for Monique Lhuillie, specializing in eveningwear. Natalie Minori Sconce is now teaching a Collection Design class at Delta, after finishing their program and showing collections at San Francisco Fashion Week and Sacramento Fashion Week. These are just a few of the many successes from Delta’s impressive Fashion Program. At the helm of the program for the last twenty years is Leslie Asfour (former Lincoln Center boutique owner), who launched it from a small program with only a few classes, to one that garners respect in the national fashion industry. Asfour has developed the program into a true success story. Her entrepreneurial approach and ability to immerse her students in the industry, as well as the credibility of her experience and teaching from those experiences, most certainly are the keys.

Each year, her industry friends (fashion professionals, who are intricately connected to the who’s who in the business) come to Stockton from New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco to share their insights and advice. She takes students to industry centers like New York, Paris and London to take them behind-the-scenes to meet the movers and shakers and see the industry beyond the classroom. To afford these tours, the students produce several events and fundraisers, including the very popular Nearly New Sales and Art and Gift Fairs, which happen twice yearly. At the end of each year, the Collection Design and Event Production classes design and produce a fashion show that has become an event to attend in Stockton! Each year the show moves, creating a new and unique experience. It’s been held in Lincoln Center, the Haggin Museum, the college’s center courtyard, and now, this year, will be in Atherton Auditorium on the Delta campus on Friday, May 10th at 8:00 pm. The show features 11 designers and over 90 models. They expect over 1,000 guests! For those interested, tickets are available through the Delta College box office. n

pring is here, which means we’re all ready to refresh our personal wardrobes! Spring calls for brighter colors, and a great way to add some color and change up an old outfit is by opting for fun accessories. Here are some must-haves for spring that won’t break the bank. n

Spring Style

on a Budget By Melissa Flores of Remedy

Accessories:

A statement necklace is such an inexpensive way to add some interest to a dress or even paired with a t-shirt and shorts. You can transform the whole look of your outfit with some reasonably priced costume jewelry. A new handbag or cute sandals in a pop color is also a great way to add some fun to your outfit.

Crochet or Lace: Pretty crochet and modern lace is one of this spring’s biggest trends. Both are classic patterns that look great on women of any age. Whether it is a trim detail, a top, dress or even shorts, it is a must-have this season. Lace is being shown in a variety of colors, from white to black and every color in between. This trend has many options from daytime casual to dressy evenings.

StyleWATC H Denim top/vest: Pair with your favorite pair of skinnies, shorts, skirt or even layer over a fun spring dress. You can wear open as a jacket or button and tie in a knot at the bottom for a fun look.

Scarves: A spring scarf is such an easy and affordable way to change the look of an outfit. Try a fun colorful print like feathers, flowers, animal print, crosses, or my personal favorite chevron stripe print.

White bottoms: Straight, skinny, boot-cut, short, or capri, a nice clean pair of white bottoms is worth your investment. They are a nice clean slate to pair with existing pieces in your current wardrobe. You can dress them up or down and they can be paired with any color or patterned top you have in your closet.

2011 Bordeaux Futures As you read this your local Stockton wine merchants (George and Gail) have just returned from the 2012 barrel tastings in Bordeaux.

When we first tasted 2011 Bordeaux vintage in 2012 it was a challenge to find good wines at the proper price. You will note that prices on several wines are down! Another observation is that there are more wines than usual from the “right bank” (i.e., where Merlot is a significant part of the blend). Our most expensive wine is Chateau Pontet Canet at $100.25/bottle. It was by far the best wine I tasted and I tasted over 300 wines. As a bonus the vineyard is totally bio-dynamic to the point of using five horses rather than tractors for all chores requiring propulsion! Quantities are limited so it’s first come first served. This offer ends June 15 or when we run out.
