or 15 years, Lincoln Center shoppers have depended on Aaron Brothers to turn memorabilia and more into framed masterpieces. Now, that process is even easier. The artwork is photographed and the image downloaded into a store computer. The customer then can view the art on-screen with all the mat and frame options. This process takes the guesswork out of framing; customers know exactly what the finished product will look like. “We can even put their paint color in the background,” said Jill Jackson, the store’s general manager. Together, Aaron Brothers’ eight design-certified framers have more than five decades’ experience and have framed objects as diverse as a fulllength kimono and Oakland Athletics pitcher Dallas Braden’s no-hitter scorecard. Roff Graves, owner of now-closed Graves Country Gallery in Lodi, selected Aaron Brothers to frame a number of well-known artists’ works, since sold at auction. “They do such a professional job,” Graves said. “It is a customer-oriented store.” Whatever the project, Aaron Brothers offers budget friendly framing options that include package deals on four custom framing collections. One collection is always marked down 50 percent to 60 percent, and sometimes even an additional percentage is taken off the total.
By Michelle Machado
“They can also buy ready-made components – frames, mats, glass – and get a custom look in a package deal at a discounted price,” said Jackson, who explained that all Aaron Brothers’ framing materials are preservation quality. When requested, framers assemble ready-made components same-day. Custom framed art can be ready to hang in as little as three days, using priority shipping for materials.

n December 23, 2011, Dominic Deiro was tragically killed from injuries suffered as a passenger in a solo-vehicle drunk driving accident. In order to prevent other families from undergoing a similar tragedy, Dominic’s mother, Carrie Del Cima, father, Mark Deiro, and sister, Mia Deiro-Douglass, have created Dominic’s Designated Driver (DDD). This non-profit 501(c)(3) organization is committed to raising awareness about the consequences of drinking and driving by seeking to reward individuals who make the choice in becoming a designated driver. Through the program, the designated driver of a group wears an orange and black wristband with the words “I Am A Dominic Designated Driver” imprinted on it, indicating that they are the sober driver that night. Approximately 40 bars, clubs, and restaurants throughout Stockton, Modesto, Lodi, Monterey, and even Scottsdale, Arizona have enlisted in this program to honor these participants with certain perks such as free cover/admission, free non-alcoholic beverages, and/or free food. Since its establishment, Dominic’s Designated Driver has received support and recognition from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the Stockton Police Department, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department, AAA, and former Stockton Mayor Ann Johnston. The Second Annual DDD Golf Tournament, held on February 23, 2013 at Swenson Golf Course, drew approximately 250 individuals and generated $13,000. These contributions helped to fund various scholarships for local grade school, high school, and college students, in addition to providing the community with DDD wristbands, stickers, and educational material. Most recently, on April 30, 2013, the organization held an event at San Joaquin Delta College entitled “The Dominic Deiro Story” to inform college youth about drinking and driving, personal responsibility, and accountability. With DDD’s mission to save lives, the program’s main goal is to keep drunk drivers off the road through educating and inspiring all age groups to utilize a designated driver. To find a participating establishment, to learn more about the program, or to donate, please visit the DDD website, www.dominicdesignateddriver.com, or go to the Facebook page, “Keeping Dominic Deiro’s Memory Alive.” n

t’s an exciting and challenging time for all of us at Best Wishes... exciting because, along with you, we are looking forward to big changes at Lincoln Center. We know whatever changes lie ahead will be worth the wait. In the meantime, we need you now more than ever to remember how important you are to our local merchants.
Julie Van Noate of Best Wishes
We thank each and every one of you that recognizes the importance of shopping at your “Brick and Mortar” locally owned businesses. We have the pleasure of calling so many of you friends... we have watched kids in strollers in years past now push their own children through our store. Birth Announcements are now Wedding Invitations... we rejoice in new babies and cry at funerals. We wouldn’t have known many of you if it weren’t for you choosing to come to our little store. It’s you who helps us support our family and the families of the six people we employ. Your decision to shop locally puts food on our tables, puts our kids through college, and enables a little girl to take ballet. In turn, each of those families has the ability to then support other local stores and the local causes they believe in. All of which create tax dollars so desperately needed in our community. The Internet makes it easy to push a button while lounging in our PJs, but it doesn’t help the local economy. We must support each other more than ever right now. Little businesses are closing all too quickly because I think sometimes we forget the big picture. Your loyal support also enables us to contribute to the many worthy causes we are asked to help on a daily basis. We could not donate to the many charities that so many of you are dedicated to. YOU make that possible by choosing to shop with us, and other local merchants.
Due to customer requests, this article was adapted from the November 2012 Chronicle and reprinted.

ith summer in full swing, we decided to chat with Dr. Clinton Prescott of Central Valley Dermatology (CVD) about how the sun affects our skin and overall health. At CVD, Dr. Prescott’s goal is to help patients realize the importance of early detection of potential skin problems. Early diagnosis means a better prognosis and Dr. Prescott believes there’s truth in the common phrase, ‘an ounce of prevention equals a pound of cure.’ Read on to learn the importance in shielding your skin from too much sunshine this summer.
Q: How can we best protect our skin from the sun?
Q: We all love to soak up those rays of sun in the summer. What about the sun is so bad for our skin?
A: Sun avoidance in the form of protective clothing, head gear, and sunscreen SPF30 or higher.
A: UVA and UVB rays are carcinogenic. This nation is facing an epidemic of skin cancer. Basal cell cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S. It is estimated it may be more common than all other forms of cancer combined.
Q: What exactly is SPF?
Q: We’ve heard the sun is a great source of Vitamin D, so it can’t be all bad! What benefits does the sun offer and what should we limit sun exposure to? A: The issue of vitamin D deficiency is a bogus issue in terms of needing sunlight to achieve adequate levels. Diet and dietary supplements are all that is necessary and can be found in your local grocery store in vitamin D fortified milk and orange juice, as well as other items. Malignant melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. It is the leading cause of cancer deaths in women aged 20-30. It is the fifth most common cause of cancer deaths in men, and the
seventh leading cause of cancer deaths in women. People who insist on getting a suntan risk all forms of skin cancer, and may actually lower their immune response to other diseases. Individuals with lupus erythematosus, porphyria, and a host of sun-sensitive disorders need to avoid sunlight. Vitiligo, a depigmenting disease, may in some cases be triggered by overexposure to sunlight.
A: SPF is the abbreviation for sun protection factor. The higher the rating, the more ultraviolet B is blocked. SPF is specific for UVB. A good sunscreen would block UVA as well, and this is often expressed as a percentage such as 85% UVA blockage. A good sunscreen should mention both SPF and the percentage of UVA blocked. Q: What is the best way to treat sun damage (spots, wrinkling, etc.)? A: Avoid ultraviolet light, period! Some bleaching agents, lasers, and chemicals peels can benefit these concerns. n

If an item does not meet your expectations, simply return it.” In fact, they guarantee your money back for a full year. After one year, they will provide an exchange, repair, or store credit to ensure the customer has the product that meets their needs. The Low Price Promise is part of their goal to provide the best value every day. If you find a lower advertised price, Performance will match it at the time of your purchase, or refund you the difference for up to 90 days. For retail purchases, they’ll

match to any retailer located within 25 miles. For online purchases, they match to any authorized domestic online or catalog retailer. Just show them the advertisement or provide the web address and they’ll gladly refund you the difference. Lastly, their Free Lifetime Adjustments are available for all bikes purchased at Performance Bicycle. For as long as you own your bike, they will adjust brake and gear settings, true the wheels, tighten loose bolts and provide complete safety inspections. “Another neat thing about Performance is that while we have stores all across the U.S., each one has the ability to get involved in their own community,” says Jamie. Most recently, the Stockton store supported the Delta Century. Later this month they will offer free safety checks and flat tire repair at the LIVE! At Lincoln Center Family Bike Night. They’ve also partnered with Lincoln Center to give away three bicycles that night! For updates on events and sales, sign up for their emails at Performancebike.com. n
